MacBook Pro 15" LED display

Hi
I am wondering if the problem of flickering displays will ever be properly eliminated by future updates by apple.
I already returned my first LED MacBoo Pro for the yellow screen tint, and have a new one wich tends to flicker on the uper third of the display even after all the software and firmware updates.
Is this a long-term problem, or do I just hope that the right update will come soon?
Thanks
Martin

You can buy a VESA Mount Adapter Kit for 24" LED Display and then connect an Ergotron MX Desk Mount to the display so then you can have a display that is able to move freely above your desk, and essentially have your Macbook Pro beneath it. This is the set up I plan to have for my dorm desk in a few weeks.

  • Can a macbook pro 13' LED display early 2013 get screen burn

just the question above. can this happen like with the icon docs and stuff?

a non-retina macbook pro is not at fault for suffering that issue.
And that issue on the retina has been diagnosed and screens with issues are being/ have been resolved by Apple.

  • I just brought Macbook pro(without retina display) on 15 june 2013 and since then put it on 6-7 hours of charging but still my macbook pro is not 100% charged. but why? (green light is displayed on the adapter pin)

i just brought Macbook pro(without retina display) on 15 june 2013 and when i switched it on the battery was 72 % charged and now the battery is charged to 62%, i used the charger that came with it and kept it for 6-7 hours on charging but it is not charged to 100% but why? also the green light is always on when i plug the charger with my mac book pro. Please tell me the meaning of Green light on power cord lid (mac book pro not charging or charging?) and also the other light if there like amber or any other colour.

    Hello Shailendras33,
Congratulations on your new MacBook Pro!  Thank you for providing all the information about what is going on with the charging issue.
Firstly, I found some information on page 11 of the MacBook Pro User Guide about what each color of the LED means on the Power Adapter:
When you first connect your power adapter to your MacBook Pro, an indicator light on the
MagSafe connector starts to glow.  An amber light indicates the battery is charging.  A green light indicates that the battery is fully charged.
You can find the MacBook Pro User Guide here (this is not for the latest MacBook Pro, but the information about the MagSafe adapter is true for the newest model):
    MacBook Pro User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/macbook_pro_15inch_late_2011.pdf
It sounds like you are not getting the amber light indicating your computer is charging, and you are noticing that the battery level is depleting.  I recommend resetting your System Management Controller when something like this is occurring:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
You can find the full article here:

  • MacBook Pro with Retina display in game graphics and SMC

I recently bought a MacBook Pro with retina display and started playing STC2 on it. I experienced  great gameplay with maxed out graphics and 30fps, however recently the fps was down and as part of my trobleshooting I reset the SMC and that seemed to correct the issue. However the computer heats up much faster now and the fans seem to labor to keep it cool. When the fps was lower before i reset the SMC the computer did not get nearly as hot. My question is; is this the OS trying to protect the hardware from overheating or just a glitch?

Well unless you want to go through the hassle of waiting for a replacement unit you can try a few things on your own.
Make sure it is plugged in and charging (Orange LED light will indicate it is charging Green means it is fully charged)
Once it is plugged in make sure everything else is unplugged
The only thing plugged in should be the power adapter
On the left hand side of your keyboard press down and hold the Control Shift and Option Keys
While you are holding down those three keys hold down the power button as well
Hold down all 4 of these for 10 seconds
    After 10 seconds let go
    Try turning your mac on
    If this works problem fixed!
If this does not work try calling 1-800-MYAPPLE (You get 90 days of free complimentary phone support on your product)
If you purchased AppleCare you have 3 years of it and you should have this number on hand it can really help you out
I always advise friends and family to purchase applecare if they plan on having their product longer than a year
You will get 3 years of phone support as well as hardware support
That means if you have any questions or anything goes wrong just call Apple
It also means if your computer breaks it is covered! Meaning no out of pocket expenses unless it is water or accidental damage
You may really want to look into purchasing applecare

  • Macbook Pro with Retina Display to HDTV, How?

Hey , okay so i have the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display i got it not too long ago. I'm looking to hook it up to my HDTV, i have a Samsung TV not 3D and i just wanted to know what cables and such i'll need to help me display what's on my Mac to my tv. I want to be able to use Netflix, HBO GO, etc from my computer and display it over the tv. Even thou i already have it on my 360, i just want the option. Thanks anyways.

We have two Samsung tvs...one is a smart tv and the orher is not but they are both LED.  I hook up my ipad to both TV's with an hdmi cable.   Did you try all the hdmi ports available?  Also, did you change the source on your remote control to the proper input?

  • My Facetime HD Camera is not working on my MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display.

I pruchased Macbook Pro 15" Retina Display on 27 Aug, 2012. But the Facetime HD Camera is not wotking. It's black screen when turn on Webcam in Yahoo or Skype. With Facetime, the Facetime Icon just animated but also dimmed after that. For all cases, the Green Led turn on. I have reinstalled OSX Mountain Lion, Resetted SMC ... but still not working. Is there anyone has some issue ? How do I know it's Hardware Failure or just OSX bug ? Please advise? Many thanks

Try an SMC reset (instruction here). Make sure you read the instructions for the right system, I'm assuming yours would fall under "Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you should not remove on your own."
If that doesn't work, the errors you're referencing are usually hardware based. I'd try in another user to make sure it's not an application error (hesitant that this would work as you're saying that the error occurs in multiple apps), but if the SMC doesn't work, I'd recommend making an appointment to get it looked at.

  • 17" MacBook Pro (late 2008) display banding in smooth gradients

While running the Screen Savers: RSS Visualizer or Spectrum, I noticed the graphics background looked different in sort of a high contrast, banded, sort of way. I compared it to the same Screen Saver on my Mac Pro w/30" Cinema Display and that looked fine and smooth, with no banding what-so-ever. Has anyone noticed a difference? Is this what I am to expect with this latest 2008 17" MacBook Pro LCD glossy display??? As a pro-photographer I find it less than perfect for editing purposes and will probably take it back, unless it is malfunctioning and it can be fixed. I've even seen 24" iMacs look practically indistinguishable to the 30" Cinema Display. Are they not able to make the 17" display as well?

I made an appointment with the Genius Bar and they ran an external FireWire Video Graphics Card Tester on the 17" MacBook Pro and found no problems with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT card itself. Although, after consulting with other repair technicians and observing the Screen Saver "RSS Visualizer" and more notably "Spectrum", the Genius's agreed that they was an obvious undesirable increase in dithering contrast compared to LCD iMacs and LCD Cinema Display panels. They concluded it may be a problem with the LED display and wrote up a ticket and took it in for a display replacement repair.
I went nearby to a Best Buy store to see if other 17" and 15"LED MacBooks exhibited the same appearance and found that they also had an undesirable increased contrast in dithering of gradient tonality compared to Apple LCDs. While I was there, I received a call from the Apple Genius requesting I pick up the MacBook Pro since he reneged on his decision to replace the display after further checking and found no evidence of a faulty display. He said "That's the way it apparently is supposed to be." So, currently, my conclusion is that the new LED displays regardless of model are inferior to an LCD in representing smooth tonal gradations.
I hope others more knowledgeable will chime in here to explain what the heck is really going on and offer their experience with these new LED displays. For me, I will continue to test this 17" MacBook Pro LED display with high res images from a Nikon D300 and PhaseOne P45+ comparing them on my MacPro Quad Xeon w/NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card and 30"LCD Cinema Display. It may be that the resolution in the Screen Saver is not up to par for these new LED displays.
    Visually Yours,

  • How do I connect an external microphone to a Macbook Pro with Retina display ?

How do I connect an external microphone to a Macbook Pro with Retina display ?
Alternatively how do I connect an audio input at a level that would normally have gone into a 'line input' socket ?

Plug it into the linein/headphone jack if there's just one.  It'll switch between the two modes automatically depending on what you plug into it.

  • HT3382 Connect from a MacBook Pro's mini display port to a Display Port monitor?

    Hello everyone,
Is it possible to connect from a MacBook Pro's mini display port to a Display Port monitor with resolutions higher than 1920 x 1200? It seems Apple does not supply a mini-DP to DP adapter.
However, just as they do not make a mini-DP to HDMI adapter, but they do recommend a Belkin product for this purpose.
Is there any reason that a mini-DP to DP adapter or cable wouldn't work and support high resolutions?
    Thanks for your feedback!

    Hey tjk,
    Thanks for the response.
Do you have any recommendations for a potential set up? The audio output and Apple DVI are on different sides of my MBP, which is alright, I guess I can get two long cables to handle each. I was hoping to just have my MBP closer to where I use it, with a cord nearby plugged in on one side to the HDTV and resting near where I keep my MBP for when I want to use the HDTV as an external monitor.
With a converter like this, you can run video out of the MBP's DVI port, and miniToslink (optical) audio out of the 3.5mm stereo mini jack to the converter, then it will combine the two and output audio and video through HDMI to the monitor.
    http://www.supermediastore.com/product/u/apogee-dvi-to-hdmi-converter-spdif-opti cal-toslink-coaxial-input-output?utm_source=cj&utm_medium=aff&utm_content=HDMI+A ccessories
Otherwise, depending on the TV's inputs, for video you could run DVI to DVI on the TV, or DVI to HDMI to the TV. For audio you could run 3.5mm stereo mini plug from the MBP to RCA adapter on the TV. Toslink/optical is also an option.

  • The quality of built-in camera on macbook pro with retina display is far worse than any other mac. Why?

I just got the new macbook pro with retina display like a week ago and I've been noticing that the quality of the built-in camera on it is so bad.
It's even worse than my 2009 iMac or my sister's 2012 13" macbook pro. I don't get why this is a facetime HD built-in camera when i can obviously see that is not even near HD. Or is it just my computer. Do i have to bring it to the apple store??

it's advertised 720p so yes it is the same as all the other MBP.  it may just be the resolution of your monitor is stretching the pixels.  Don't worry about bringing it to the apple store.

  • Is there a way to digitize audio using the headphone input on the 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with Retina display?

I'd like to digitize audio from a minidisc player into my 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with retina display, but can't see a way to change the internal mic input.  I understand that previous MacBooks allowed the headphone jack to double as a mic input, but mine doesn't seem capable of switching.  I've tried using a mini to mini cable, with no luck, and also tried using a headset splitter adapter (3.5 mm 4-pin to 2x3-pin 3.5 mm headset splitter adapter from Amazon) because I read that that would allow me to plug in headphones and input audio.  But in both cases, the only "input" available in my sound preferences is the built-in internal microphone.  Am I missing something?  Is there a way to digitize audio through the headphone jack?

Not likely. headphone jacks are usually output only devices unless specifically stated to support input, and even then, it may not be audio input that they support, but merely control input for volume and such.
You can get a USB audio input instead. i.e:

Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.
