Macbook pro 2011 13 inch i5 to loug

I bought a 13 inch Macbook Pro 2011 2.4GHz i5 a few days ago and I have noticed that it is a bit loud.
I can constantly hear this air moving sound when it is on and it never seems to stop.
The fan will run at about 2000rpm when it is just sitting there doing nothing at all.
Is this normal? I took it to the apple store and the guy there told me everything was working just fine but I do not think he could hear the noise.
Can someone please tell me if this is normal.
Thanks!

I have a MacBook Pro 13.3/2.66/CTO, periodically I hear the fan going which is perfectly normal.  When I first heard it, I was a bit concerned but it goes away.
For me, I notice it when I have to many screens up, and also if I have not turned it off in several days.

    Hello jasonsucoll,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
This article is a great starting point for troubleshooting the slowness issue with your MacBook Pro.
OS X Mavericks: If your Mac runs slowly
    Ciao,
    -Jason

  • MacBook Pro (2011) 13 inch won't boot up

The computer will chime. The screen is grey with the apple logo. There is a status bar below the apple that takes about 5 minutes to get  the end. Then the computer shuts down.
I tried the shift, option, command trick...doesn't work.
    Also tried option,command, P, R. Doesn't work either.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    digidude101,
do you have the Early 2011 MacBook Pro, or the Late 2011 MacBook Pro? (If you’re not sure, what speed CPU does it have?) Which version of OS X is installed on it?

  • Macbook Pro 2011 5 Inch Display bug

This isn't so much a question as it is a comment but on the new high definition screens there is a box about 20 pixels high going all the way across the screen right under the finder bar that seems to lag behind the rest of the display. For example when moving a screen around in that box, that part lags behind a little from the rest of the smooth transition...

Have you seen this on more than one screen, or only on your own?

  • Macbook Pro 2011 running very slowly after upgrading to Mavericks

I am in deep trouble with my wife so any help would be gratefully accepted.
Shortly after Mavericks became available I upgraded my wife's Macbook Pro 2011 to use the new OS version. Ever since then, the Macbook has been running noticeably slowly. In particular, Mail is almost unusuable taking minutes to open and showing long delays while moving around messages, folders, etc. Excel and Word are also much slower, Safari is slow, in fact just about everything is grinding.
Any ideas on what can I can do to improve things and apease my unhappy wife would be much appreciated.
I have attached the Etrecheck output FYI
    Thanks
    Andrew

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List

  • Macbook pro 2011 battery question.

I got a macbook pro 2011, and I'm charging, draining and recharging the battery daily, i have the mac for almost 2 months and i have 75 cycles complete and the battery is on 92%, i want to know if I'm doing a good work charging the battery the way I'm doing it, or do i need to use another method, i work daily with this macbook pro in design, thanks in advance for the answer.

Honestly, I think you're cycling your battery a little too much. Apple recommends that you cycle your battery 2-3 times a week. So this means
    2 months = 8 weeks
    8 x 3 (cycles) = 24.
You should have roughly 24 cycles for the duration that you've had the computer, 75 is a little much for 2 months, don't you think?
I would strongly suggest cycling the battery only 2-3 times a week. Also, only do a FULL discharge every month. You should make the change NOW before you permanently damage your battery. I have the 2.3 2011 Hi res 15 inch MBP.

  • HT3924 How would this apply if you have a MacBook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012?

How could I use my iMac 27" Mid 2010 as an external monitor for my MacBook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012?
I have an HDMI to HDMI but nothing happens.

You use Target Display Mode via Thunderbolt cable.
    Target Display Mode And Thunderbolt
    Target Display Mode 2009 & 2010 iMacs
Target Display Mode 2011 & Later iMacs
iMac (Mid 2011)- Target Display Mode does not work with Mini DisplayPort cable

  • MacBook Pro 2011 and latest Kingston KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX

    Hey guys,
As the RAM is pretty expensive when bought off Apple I decided to go with 4Gb for my MacBook Pro 2011 (some days ago).
However if anyone tries to install the latest 2x4Gb Kingston modules (KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX) 1600Mhz I'd be more than happy to know if it's a success because I might need to upgrade to 8Gb in some months.
    Thanks a lot!

If you´d like to update with 3rd party Kingston´s i suggest to use KTA-MB1333/4GB
If have them running since one week without any problems
The MB within the partnumber says that they´ve been tested against Mac Books.

  • MacBook Pro 2011 Repair Extension Program for Video Issues -Feedback?

Anybody have any feedback from the MacBook Pro 2011 Repair Extension Program for Video Issues?
I had my early 2011 15 inch 8,2 repaired (free) under the extension program. The machine now appears to run well - but much hotter than before. The case is significantly hotter - especially at the GPU corner and the fans are constantly on moderate to high (not full). Anybody else experiencing similar changes?

    Run an Apple Hardware Test;
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
Note an error free AHT is not definitive.
    install iStat menus:
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
Set Activity Monitor to ALL PROCESSES and set CPU to display values from high to low.
When the MBP gets hot, post images of both for inspection.
    Ciao.

  • Online video playback is severally laggy/choppy on my macbook pro 2011?

hey guys, got a bit of an issue here. I've been noticing some SEVERE lagging issues whilst viewing online (streaming) video, from various sites, including, novamov, youtube, and others. the videos rarely stop to buffer as i have a fast connection, but yet they still seem to lag wildly. what i mean by this, is the sound will continue as normal, the the picture will freeze sometimes for a good 5 seconds or so before resuming, this is happening increasingly more and more..
i am running Mac OSX Lion (latest Update) on my:
    MacBook Pro
    17-inch, Early 2011
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)
If it helps my hard drive space is:
    Macintosh HD
    Capacity: 664 GB
    Available: 179.79 GB
The browser i am using is the latest version of Safari, although i have tried firefox and chrome and i experience the same issue.
I have Sophos anti-virus installed and run regular scans on my system (all clear)
i really can't think of anything else which could be causing an issue here. I haven't installed any additional software for a while, not in the time frame since the error started to occur.
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video when my £3000+ computer handles heavy applications such as Final cut pro and Photoshop with ease...
i MUST be missing something here,
I really would appreciate any help i can get here.
thankyou very much for your time
    ben

    Hey Carolyn,
Worked a treat, de-jaggy video for first time in months!!! Only point of clarification, I manually deleted the Flash plug-in before I uninstalled Flash. Don't know if this was why it worked for me rather than others but hey ...
    Thanks again!

    Hi Ben...
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video
Try troubleshooting the Flash plugin required for most YouTube video.
Quit all open browsers. I'm using Safari as a test.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Make sure and uninstall the current plugin first.
Then launch Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 clamshell mode broken by latest software update?

After installing the latest MacBook Pro software update and EFI update through Software Update in the evening May 4, I am unable to enter clamshell mode any more. It used to work before. After waking up in the clamshell mode, the machine promptly goes back to sleep. On subsequent attempts to wake up the system, the laptop itself appears to wake up (at least the sleep light stops blinking) but the display does not even wake up. I can still work with external dsisplay with the lid open but this is highly annoying. I have reset the PRAM with no effect. The machine is a 2011 MBP, 15" inch, 2.2 GHz quad i7. Keyboard and mouse are wireless Microsoft desktop but the problem is also present with wired peripherals.
Does anyone else see this problem after installing the latest patch?

Okay, I'll add my frustration here as well.
I've had this problem too, and more noticable since the 1.4 update.
I posted a thread similar to this here.
But I'll just copy over what my main problem was...
Whenever I plug my computer into my Cinema Display (with the computer closed) it won't wake up fully. The status light will come on, any external hard drives will spin up, but the display won't turn on and the computer will go back to sleep.
I have to restart the computer manually to get it to work normally, and if I disconnect it while it's between the sleep and wake mode and try to open it, the backlight will come on but the screen will remain black, causing me to have to force restart it.
This is in addition to my first problem with the backlit keyboard not coming on automatically after sleep, which was temporarily fixed by resetting the SMC, but it goes back to the problem after a week or so.
What could be causing either of these problems? Could it have something to do with BootCamp since I have it installed, or is there a defect?
I would bring it back to Apple, but there's a small dent in the front right corner, and I'm afraid they would deny any problem I have.
I took my MacBook Pro (2011, i7 2.2, 17") into the Apple Store on Monday, and after about an hour of attempting to replicate the problem with a different monitor, there was only one time where there was any sort of problem.
The employee told me to see if there will be a fix, or otherwise they will replace the logic board for me.
One thing I'd like to add as a note...
It seems that the problem is more prominent when I have my computer with everything on it as usual. As in, before I took it to the Apple Store I performed a clean install of OS X, and that may be related to how bad the problem is, any opinions?
I had attempted at reinstalling OS X from a Time Machine Backup, but the problems continued shortly after completetion. In addition to this, I clean installed OS X, and manually reloaded my applications and media, hoping that the problem had stemmed from some kind of broken file system that could be repaired by a new install.
But no matter how I do it, the problem comes back despite the method. It is really something I want fixed, as I pretty much only use it in clamshell mode when home...

I have an early 15 inch macbook pro 2011 which has the same exact issue that the repair extension covers yet my serial number is not on the list.  Did Apple miss something?

What he is referring to, I suspect, is the same issue I encountered. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013). The Repair Extension Program page lists that model. But it goes on to say "Use the "Check your Coverage" tool on the Apple Support site to determine if your MacBook Pro model matches the list of affected products below." Doing so yields the following results for my computer:
    Valid Purchase Date
    Telephone Technical Support: Expired
    Repairs and Service Coverage: Expired
This would seem to indicate my particular machine is not eligible. But, since it has been experiencing unexplained shutdowns (requiring a restart), I feel it should be. I found this thread while looking for more information.I suspect my only recourse is to take it in to an Apple store and hope I can convince them to repair it. Do you agree?

  • In my macbook pro retina 15 inch there is installed mavericks but ı want to create recovery disk and ı need to download mavericks from App Store but it doesn't download??

Hey guys ı really need your help. I bought macbook pro retina 15 inch 2 weeks ago and it came with installed mavericks of course but ı want to create a recovery disk and to do that ı need to download mavericks installer from app store but when i click to download mavericks from appstore purchased part ı get a message says " Your purchasing process couldnt complete. OS X Mavericks cant be installed to this computer." How can ı solve this problem!??

One way around tis is to borrow a Mac that can run Mavericks and then the download will work.  You can use these instructions:

Though they are for Mt. Lion, the same steps will work.
    Ciao.

  • Can i connect my cintiq 12wx to my Macbook pro 2011 through the thunderbolt using the mini display port to vga adaptor?

I just bought my cintiq 12wx and was wonderding if i can connect it to my macbook pro 2011 through the thurderbolt using a mini displayport to vga adaptor? Please help!

Yes, it should work with a mini-displayport to VGA adapter.  Since a 12wx also can take DVI you could use a mini-displayport to DVI adapter instead.  Why go analog when you can keep it in digital!
I guess the usb is for the pen.

  • What cable do I need to buy to connect my Macbook Pro (2011) to a VGA screen? I tried the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA", but apparently it doesnt fit the 2011 Pro version...

    As the topic says,
What cable do I need to buy to connect my Macbook Pro (2011) to a VGA screen? I tried the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA", but apparently it doesnt fit the 2011 Pro version...
    Help me out please.

    Yes ... minidisplay
But what I do not like in that picture (my personal view, others may think differently), is that there is much plastic around the connectors where the cable must fit.  You may ot may not be able to get the cable to *fully seat* with the adapter.
Other adapters (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0334087, yes I know this is a DVI) hve no plastic barriers to connections.
