MacBook Pro and my home network - FAIL

Hello...and HELP
I have a MacBook Pro whose network access has slowly deteriorated over the last few weeks so as to be completely unusable, and I'm at a loss as to the solution
I have a Netgear Router WPN824x2 and a number of Tivo's, iPhones, and windows machines successfully running off the wifi without incident. However, our MacBook Pro, which also used to automatically connect and get a relatively good signal had begun dropping connections or not connecting at all. Sometimes it wouldn't even spot the SSID for the network (or the networks of the adjoining apartments, which I used to regularly see as well). For the last couple of weeks, I have had to walk the laptop to within a couple feet of the router to get any signal at all. Again, other computers moving to the exact same spot had no issues.
For most of this time I had been running WEP security. I thought the problem may be someone poaching bandwidth or ports from my router, so I changed my security to WPA2. Again, I changed all the other devices in my house to the new password and had no problem connecting, and thought I had (briefly) solved the problem with the MacBook, too. Unfortunately that's not the case.
I'm now getting a number of problems with my connection, and have been cycling through different issues trying to troubleshoot. when I try to connect to my home network I get one of the following messages (they rotate)
1) "the network you are trying to connect to requires a WEP password" - this is inaccurate as I'm now running WPA2
2) "The network you are trying to connect to requires a WPA password" (good) but when the correct password is entered I get either "invalid password" or "network timeout"
I've deleted keychain entries, tried to connect in network diagnostics and airport utilities, and pretty much anything else I can think of, but the problems are repeating.
Can anyone help with this? Please advise!

OK, this is now REALLY ******* me off. I bought a new dual-band router in hopes that the router was the issue. For about two days I was able to log into the 5 mhz band and thought I'd gotten around the problem. Now all the old problems are back, and this time it won't even detect the 5 mhz band (conveniently renamed so I could tell it from the other band). And it's STILL asking for WEP passwords on WPA security.
Am I to assume at this point that apple airport just *****? I'm ready to give up on my Mac altogether over this...

Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.

Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste.

  • Set Macbook Pro to see home network

I have a home network that I have several laptops that are linked with my desktop. I print by net work going through this desktop. I also have access to an external harddrive that stores all photos and music.
My question is how do I set the MacBook up to see this home network so I can print through this computer and see the external hard drive.

Ok i guess I am not under standing or I am not explaining. The mac is on the WIFI "my wireless router which enables it to be on the internet.
What I am wanting to do it get into the files and share the printer which are connected to the other computer "Windows".
I have set up other "window" laptop computer to share the computer and print on the printer. I can not get the mac to see any other computers in the house that are all on the same router. One of these is also a macbook.

  • Connecting new MacBook Pro to existing home network

How do I get my other laptops(Windows), NAS, and and shared wireless printers to appear in the Shared part of Finder? And stay connected after a restart/shutdown?
I use the Finder/Go/Connect to Server command and key in server IP (smb://192.168.1.1) but doesn't connect.
I can bring up another computer using that command (smb://192.168.1.10) and the network drive (NAS) with smb://192.168.100), but not the Linksys server or the DLink wireless print server.
And after restarting or shuttingdown my MacBook, those connections are not there,
I can't find any posts or documentation to help. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
    Regards

I went into login items tab under Accounts/Systems Preferences; made those changes and the connections come up fine following each shutdown.
I've tried the HTTP instead of SMB, but...http://192.168.1.1 to get to the server to no avail...just keeps spinning and times out.
Not really necessary since I can connect directly to NAS folders and other laptop; then system preference changes brings them up each start up.
So, I'm left with the problem of my MacBook recognizing my printers attached to printer server (which in turn talks to my router).
DLink Wireless Print Server DPR-1260; http://192.168.1.10
connected to two printers with USB cables
    Brother HL-5140 & Epson RX680
When I go to "Click + to add a printer"; what should I enter under Type, Device, and URL?
    regards

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

  • I have a new Macbook pro and need to run some Windows software, it appears "Parallel" should work well from what I've have read. Will I have any issues or problems accessing and printing from various printers on my Windows 7 network within Parallel?

I have a new Macbook pro and need to run some Windows software, it appears "Parallel" should work well from what I've have read. Will I have any issues or problems accessing and printing from various printers on my Windows 7 network within Parallel? Is Parallel in fact the best way to go?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Conflict between home sharing from MacBook Pro and airplay from ipad / iPhone?

Just bought an Apple TV, and set it up yesterday. Everything works fine, with one exception. When I have iTunes open and home sharing turned on the Apple TV, when trying to mirror airplay from my ipad 4th gen or my iPhone 5s, I get nothing on the Apple TV, just black screen. It also makes the device run really sluggish.
I've definitely narrowed it down to this conflict, quitting iTunes on the MacBook Pro immediately resolves the issue. So no big deal, right? Just turn off itunes. Except the whole point of buying the Apple TV is to have a central point I can stream all my media in the house from, I'd like to have my MacBook Pro, iMac, ipad and iPhone able to take control of the Apple TV without having to run across the house to turn iTunes on or off on the computers.
This only happens when mirroring, normal airplay audio or video works just fine. MacBook Pro and Apple TV are hard wired Ethernet, ipad on wifi.
Is this a known conflict? Is there any solution?

Normally there ought to be an airplay button in the top menu bar (where also the battery, wifi, clock, etc are located). And in display settings at the bottom there ought to be a drop down menu labelled Airplay Display.
If not, it seems that your Apple TV cannot be found. Are both on the same network? Have you enabled AirPlay in the Apple TV (Settings -> AirPlay set to On)?

try disabling email scanning for incoming mail.
One of the last things that occurs is the mail server and Thunderbird sign off on "where we are up to" and Thunderbird stores this state information in the popstate.dat file in your profile (there is one in each POP mail account folder). If the anti virus, or you for that matter, end the conversation a few seconds early that hand off does not occur and the popstate is not stored.

I have just acquired an iMac desktop (about 4 years old). I want to connect to my Apple airport wireless network, but cannot remember the password. How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it. I already use a MacBook Pro and an iPad on the network and don't want to jeopardize what already works well. Read the user manual that came w/your Airport router or you can cross-post in one of the  AirPort Forums for instructions.

  • HT4557 My MacBook Pro and iPad will not pick up the Air Play or the Home sharing on my AppleTV which was working yesterday

I was previously able to use my AppleTV with airplay and iTunes home sharing to my 2 macbook pros and my iPad. However, it has suddenly stopped connecting to both airplay and home sharing, even though both are turned on and the correct itunes account has been logged into on all devices. We have reset AppleTV but that has not resolved the issue. There is no airplay icon on any of the macbooks or iPad. Has anyone else experienced this and found any solutions? Thanks.

It has always been set up as WiFi and until this weekend it worked well - now won't connect.
