Macbook Pro BTO Shipping

Hey folks,
My macbook pro (sadly) was stolen last week.  I needed to replace it immediately so I ordered one that day (November 30th) from apple.com.  It is a Macbook Pro 15 inch with a 128gb SSD and the high resolution monitor.  When ordering it stated 2-4 days to ship, and I chose the 2-3 day express shipping as well.  The delivery estimate was Dec 7th - 9th.
It currently states "Preparing for Shipment" on the order page.  Until today it was "Processing Order".  I am leaving for an important business trip on December 9th evening, and I need to demonstrate an iOS app on a simulator (only runs on a mac).  I need about 4-5 hours to prepare the laptop before I leave.  It would be great if it arrived on the 7th or even earlier so I have time to get used to Lion (I was on snow leopard).  I may have the possibility of borrowing a friends machine (though it would be a serious hassle).  I also have the possibility of changing my flight at a pretty steep cost.
It is now Saturday morning in China.  Does apple ship from China on weekends?  What are my chances of getting it in time?  Is there any way (calling Apple, begging etc) to further expedite the shipment?  Thanks everyone for your help!

If the delivery estimate is between Dec 7th - 9th, that is probably when you will recieve it.  I don't think Apple is going to make an exception for your situation.  I don't even know how to get a hold of their shipping department.  I'm sure that is only an internal number.

  • HT201257 Hi -- I have a late 2011 13" macbook pro that shipped with and runs Lion. Unfortunately, I do not have the install disks with me. Holding down D key does nothing. What can I do?

How can I run the hardware test on a macbook pro that SHIPPED with lion (never had an earlier OS) without access to the install disks? I am away from them and home for several months. Holding down the D key does nothing.

Press "Option" and "D" key together.
"Restart your computer, holding down the “D” key while the computer restarts. After your computer restarts, you should see the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen. If you don’t, Apple Hardware Test may not be available on your computer. You may be able to start Apple Hardware Test from the Internet. Reconnect your computer to the network, and then restart your computer while holding down both the Option and “D” keys."

  • When will new Macs (MacBook Pros) be shipped with Lion?

When will newly ordered Macs be shipped with Lion pre-installed?

If not today, within the week, I'd imagine.

  • Can you downgrade from Snow Leopard to Leopard if MacBook Pro is shipped with SNL

I have recently purchased a MBP with 10.6.8 already installed but it came with no disks and i wish to fromat to get it truley cleaned up. I have my shop bought Leopard i pruchased for my Imac and my leopard disks that came with a later MB, when i insert the leopard disk when booted it reads ok hit the install button MBP reboots but just sits with white/blue screen and nothing happens. Tried rebooting and holding C still nothing happens apart from the MBP does not boot up but hangs. Tried pressing alt at boot up and the option to choose the disk appears I select it nothing happens yet the mouse no longer moves, it just sits there. The disk is fine as i used it to reformat a friends MB 1 hour before i attempted mine.
So if the MBP came with SNL already installed can you not roll back to leopard, or is there something I'm missing.
model: 15.4 MBP 2.8ghz core duo 500hdd 4gb ram etc...

    Hi all
Ok so I went ot the local Apple shop and they have stopped stocking SNL but advised i can download Lion and install and even though it didn't format i could when installed boot to the recovery partion -utilities and erase from there and then do a full install thus allowing a full format.
So erase done click install lion and it connected to the net and then sat for some time so what i'm asking is does this now have to down load the 4gb image again. I assumed it installed from the partition but will it download and install if so this could take some time as the Lion download took approx 8 hours.
Please tell me that is not the case as that is seriously flawed and left me in a dodgy position as i have erased my hdd and will have to wait till i can get a day off to run the next install.
as a foot note i was advised to copy the image and then burn so i would have a hard copy i did this would it be quicker to do it from thi disc.
    thanks in advance

  • Snow leopard on macbook pro shipped with lion

A question from Sweden: Can you install SL 10.6 on a macbook pro that shipped with Lion?

your going to need another Mac that can boot off the disks, then T boot off the target Mac first so it's FireWire Target Disk Mode, then connect a Firewire cable then hold c boot off the 10.6 disk, erase the factory Lion machine completely and install OS X 10.6
The firmware will not you boot from earlier OS X install disks on a factory Lion box. You have to work around it to get it on the drive, but once it's there it will be fine.
I just did this, and did not have to Target boot at all. The machine booted right up off the replica 10.6.7 DVD, and was perfectly happy to install 10.6 right over 10.7 without erasing anything. No wacky side effects except a few settings had to be set again where Lion's settings were too different.
If you only have the "Full Retail" 10.6.3 disc, then you WILL have to use another older Mac as intermediary, since the 2011 MacBook Pro needs at least 10.6.6 to boot.
Mine was a refururb, and because it has originally been sold with 10.6, there WAS a 10.6 disc they could copy and send me. They muttered about "ranges of serial numbers". The "first responders" do not know these are available, so you have to be firm, but polite. The answer for your specific Mac may still be no. By year-end, the answer will always be NO.

  • How do I change the apple id on the copy of Lion that shipped with my Macbook Pro?

I've inherited a Macbook Pro that shipped with Lion installed. The app store is showing three updates for iPhoto, GarageBand, and iMovie. When I try to update them it request the password for the Apple ID for the person who set up the Macbook. These apps came with Lion which came with the Macbook. I could reload the OS but that would wipe out my configuration. How can I change the Apple ID to reflect me as the new owner so I can update the apps included with Lion? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If you know the seller, then maybe it can be done; according to the licensing agreement, if you sell/gift a Mac which came with Lion preinstalled, you are allowed to make a one time transfer of your software license. That would involve a call to Apple (I've not had to do this, but I've read that you need to call Apple and explain that you wish to transfer the Lion license from xxxxx to xxxxxx - don't know if it involves name/address or any other info). So, if your seller is willing to do this, and Apple re-registers the MBP in your name, you shouldn't have to do anything. You may want to check into this because it also may play a role when there is an OS update - not sure that you'll be able to get that with your different Apple ID.

  • New Macbook pro shipped with Lion, cannot boot from SL CD

I have a brand new Macbook pro 17" - shipped with Lion, cannot boot from snow-lopard disk - tech said I would be able to downgrade. I cant because if I try to boot from the CD it just beeps 3 times. Boots just fine from a Lion startup disk I created first. What the heck is going on here? Very upset that i cannot reach apple support in the evening any longer. If anyone can help it would be awsome. Tnx good prople.

    Hi Paul,
Just a quick question, are your Fn keys working properly and the 2 fingered scrolling?
I've done much the same with the help of 2 Apple Geniuses who found me an original 10.6.7 install disk for a my new macbook pro.
It installed OK but... Fn keys don't work apart from F3 and F12, the rest give an error sound. 2 fingered scrolling on the trackpad doesn't work either.
Mine was a custom build 15" with hi res glossy screen - I wonder if they've put in the newer wired keyboard mentioned here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4809
or, if my problem relates to being on 10.6.7...
Any info would be gratefully received.

  • Macbook Pro Decision

Having just received my refund on a 2011 15" Macbook Pro BTO and 27" Cinema Display (which were to replace my aging 2006 iMac 24" with 20" Cinema Display), I'm now back in analysis paralysis based on my experiences with said laptop.
I used the computer over four days, and determined it was not a fit for me since:
    1. The low resolution screen I opted for was too low for my liking
    2. The fans would ramp up to noticeably audible ranges during moderate tasks
    3. The portability factor just wasn't as portable as I had hoped; this thing is big
I had spent nearly $4500 on a laptop and Cinema Display and while I achieved huge performance gains and connectivity thanks to Thunderbolt, couldn't help but feel like I made the wrong move. So I packed it up, shipped it back, and am back to square one.
When at the store, I played around with the 13" Macbook Pro, and while the resolution seemed all to similar to the default resolution of my returned 15" Macbook Pro, the form factor was perfect for transportation.
So I ask the community this: Would pulling the trigger on an SSD-enabled 13" Macbook Pro keep me satisfied until the 27" iMac lineup is refreshed with Sandybridge technology?
My theory is that I get two computers for the price of one (when you include the cost of the monitor), with the heat dissipating properties of a desktop all-in-one being better than a laptop enclosure. I also solve the portability issue since the 13" is light and nimble, and gain the ability to do a dual screen multi-monitor setup c/o the iMac without needing to splurge on a Mac Pro should I feel 27" isn't enough for me.
My concerns are the lower horsepower options on the 13" and the lower screen resolution which was an issue at 15", but may be a better fit in the smaller form factor.
    Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

I've been doing a lot of photo work on my 13" and have been happy with the screen. The resolution is a little disappointing, but as you said, it's a great portable machine. If I need higher resolution, I just plug into my external monitor and work at my desk.
Noise is not an issue most of the time, but if I do heavy video rendering, the fan does ramp up and get fairly loud. It cools back down quickly.
By the way, as an experiment yesterday I ran a transcode in Handbrake while streaming an HD flash video and loading web pages. The fan ran full speed, but absolutely no lock-ups or slowdowns on any of the processes!

  • Cannot detect any drives in my macbook pro 13.

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro 13" that was built December 2009 (so mid-2009 model).
About a month ago, out of nowhere (maybe after an update), my macbook started to freeze up/beachball.
I shutdown the machine, and then it wouldn't even boot up. Just saw the spiral and apple logo go into an infinite loop.
At first I thought it was the filesystem that was corrupted, but as I analyzed the issue it seemed like the drive refused to work. So I thought to myself it's a bad drive. I tried numerous things, until I ruled it was definitely the drive.
So I ordered an Intel X25-M 160GB SSD as a replacement.
In the meantime, I had a western digital passport 500GB drive (USB). So I installed OSX on it for the time being.
The drive arrived, and I swap it out. The drive isn't detected (doesn't show up in disk utility nor system profiler.) So I swap back in the original drive, it detects the drive.
At this point, I'm frustrated. What could be the problem?
So I decided to disassemble my passport drive, which happened to be a WD Scorpio Blue SATA2 500GB drive. I put that into the macbook pro 13". It's not detected.
So now I'm thinking it's the SATA controller issue only to find out these Macbook Pros are plauged with issues. I believe my Macbook Pro was shipped with EFI 1.7. So I downgrade to 1.6. I try all 3 drives, and only the original macbook drive is detected. Except it barely functions.
Now I connect all 3 drives to my PC. To my surprise all of them work fine. Even the original macbook drive. Infact the original macbook drive seems rather fit.
So at the moment, my macbook is useless without an external USB drive to boot from.
Is anyone experiencing similar issues? Drives not being detected at all?
Any suggestions or handy hints. I've exhausted all my resources and I'm frustrated. Note: I do not have applecare and the 3 month period has expired.
    Thanks.

    Naveen, go here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
Type in your Mac's serial number (which you can get off the box or from "About this Mac" in the Apple Menu, or even in System Profiler) and it should tell you how much warranty you have left and some options for contacting Apple (take it to an Apple Store is probably the best option if you can).
    Hope this helps.

  • Macbook Pro & Sony Trinitron Monitor

I have both. Now how do I link them up?
    Kind Regards
    Dean Whiston

    More info is always helpful.
Also posting in the right area is a good idea, this is the Mac Pro area not the MacBook Pro area.
But I will assume that the Sony Trinitron is an older CRT monitor with a VGA only connection.
You will need to get a DVI-A to VGA adapter and connect that to the DVI port on the MacBook Pro, then connect that to the external monitor.
According to Apple the MacBook Pro is shipped with the proper adapter cable, if you lost yours then you can buy a new Apple one for $19.00 at
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8754G/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MTUzNTg
or a cheaper one for $1.94 at
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041903&pid=2396&seq=1&format=2#description
Then open System Preferences and go to Displays and Detect Displays to activate the other monitor.

  • MacBook Pro Running Lion Takes Out Network

Hey everyone.  I know that there has been an issue with wifi connectivity under Lion, but this seems to be different.  I'm running a new MacBook Pro that shipped with Lion.  All of the updates are installed, including 10.7.1 that was meant to correct the previous wifi issue.  My problem is as follows.  Every time that I connect my laptop to the network at work it takes out the internet connectivity through the network.  The router is a Cisco WRVS4400N.  It seemed implausible to me that my on laptop was the culprit, but the problem consistently arises when I connect to the network, and ONLY when I connect to the network.  It does not, however, happen when I connect to any other network.  Is there something to be done about this on my end?  It's starting to get frustrating to not be able to get online at work.

For others that may be having this issue, it seems that it was tied to the IPv6 issue that has been discussed in other posts.  I switched the setting to "Link-Local Only" and it appears to have fixed the problem.  Not sure why . . . but it seems to work for now.
*Update* As I was posting this, the problem showed up again.  I was running the Google Music Beta.  Turned it off and the connection started working fine.  IPv6 setting is back to Automatic and still working.

  • Parallel use of fcpx and fcp7 in late macbook pro 2011

I am happily running fcpx under Lion, however, have a lot of old projects on fcp7.
I was unable to install fcp7 under lion to the late 2011 macbook pro 17, and this might anyways be a bad idea, as it eats a lot of terabytes on boot volume.
Just want to share my workaraund, as it took quite an effort to figure out:
    1) MAKE A BOOTABLE CLONE OF LION BOOT DRIVE ON EXTERNAL FIREWIRE DISK USING SUPERDUPER OR CARBON COPY CLONER.
    2) BOOT FROM THE EXTERNAL LION BOOT DRIVE AND PARTITION THE INTERNAL DRIVE ON LION BOOT AND SNOW LEOPARD BOOT
    3) CLONE THE LION BACK TO THE LION PARTITION
    4) BOOT FROM 10.64 SNOW LEOPARD INSTALLER DISK AND INSTALL SNOW LEOPARD 10.6.4 TO THE SNOW LEOPARD PARTITION OF INTERNAL DRIVE
    5) NOW BOOT FROM THE NEW INTERNAL SNOW LEOPARD DISK, AND RUN SNOW LEOPARD 10.6.8 UPDATER
    6) INSTALL QUICKTIME 7.6.6 (THE LINK IS SOMEWHERE ON THE APPLE PAGES) IT SPECIFICLY NEEDS TO BE 7.6.6., NOTHING ELSE.
    7) INSTALL FCP7 FROM THE ORIGINAL INSTALL DISKS
NOW YOU CAN BOOT FCPX OF LION PARTITION AND FCP7 OF THE SNOW LEOPARD PARTITION, DEPENDING WHAT YOU WANT TO WORK ON.
NOTE THAT THE LEOPARD PARTITION ONLY NEEDS 24 GB OF USED SPACE, IF YOU DONT INSTALL MOTION AND AUDIO CONTENT PARTS OF FCP7.

You dont need lion at all, but you might need an external boot disk for the preparation.
Some resellers have reported cernel panic type problems if trying to install snow leopard directly on a macobook pro IF that macbook pro originally shipped with Lion. They say, there might be a chip preventing non Lion installs.
So, I would just for safety, prepare everything on an external drive, then boot of that exptrenal drive a couple of times to be sure it works, and then clone it over to your internal boot drive.
Anyways, if I put the Snow Leopard as startup drive in system preferencies, I would be able to work only on Snow Leopard environment. Personally, I like having both, as I like studying FCPX's possiblities in projects which permit it.

  • MacBook Pro wiped, contact AppleCare

Earlier today, while browsing in safari, my older MacBook Pro stopped responding. I couldn't do anything. I then held down the power button to restart it and upon restarting, I saw the empty folder symbol. I reset the PRAM, restarted, but then a stop sign appeared and I couldn't get past that screen. So I held down Command + Option + R to get the OSX Utility Window after again restarting, I looked at reparing the disk, but all I saw was a 1.39GB Apple disk, presumably the OS. I then tried reinstalling the software, I was told that Apple would verify my reinstallation, and then got a "Contact AppleCare" notice. Is the only thing I can do contact AppleCare, or can I do something else and avoid all the hassle? Has my computer been wiped? How? I reset my Apple ID password and am now waiting 3 days for a two-step verification. I made no backups for that computer. What do I do?

The OS wouldn't even fit on a 1.39GB partition. The EFI and Recovery partitions are usually around 700MB or so, if I recall correctly.
You booted into Internet Recovery but if you only saw a 1.39GB partition you main partition isn't showing up. Try to run Disk Utility on the "Macintosh HD" (or whatever you've named your main partition) and see if it can be verified. If you don't see it, you'll probably need to erase the entire drive and install the system anew and restore from backups - oh, yeah, no backups - sorry.
Did you have your Apple ID and password handy when you tried to reinstall the OS? I'm expecting that you should have and, somehow, the system couldn't verify your OS X purchase and that's why you were referred to AppleCare.
It seems that you'll just have to wait that three days before you can really accomplish anything. And if you can't boot the system, you'll not be able to grab any data from your drive (unless you purchase a new drive and try one of the data rescue packages to try to retrieve some of your data).
I don't see any other way out of the situation - unless you have an older MacBook Pro that shipped with discs?
