Macbook Pro - prevent scanning of 5Ghz band

I have a Sony KDL 46 EX1 TV using wireless transfer. If I use my Macbbok Pro 17 unibody, I have picture problems in the TV because the airport is also scanning the 802.11a 5Ghz frequence.
Is there any possibility to prevent the scanning of the 5Ghz frequence, maybe by deactivation the 802.11a protocol somewhere?
Thanks for any ideas.

The Audio Units cache file may have become corrupted:
1. Quit Logic Pro
2. In the Finder:
      • Mac OS X 10.7.x - Press and hold down the "option" key, then select "Library" from the "Go" menu
      • Mac OS X 10.6.x - Select "Home" from the "Go" menu, then open the "Library" folder
3. Open the "Caches" folder
4. Drag the following file to the Trash:
     - com.apple.audiounits.cache
5. Configure Logic Pro to open in 32-bit mode
6. Open Logic Pro - all 32-bit plug-ins will be scanned
7. Quit Logic Pro
8. Configure Logic Pro to open in 64-bit mode
9. Open Logic Pro - all 64-bit plug-ins will be scanned
10. Quit Logic Pro
Logic Pro should now only scan for new plug-ins on subsequent launches.

  • Won't power up -- 17" MacBook Pro Early 2008 2.5GHz MB166LL/A MacBookPro4,1 Apple Model #A1261

I have a 17" MacBook Pro Early 2008 2.5GHz MB166LL/A MacBookPro4,1 Apple Model #A1261. I bought this used last year, and installed one of OWC's 1TB 2.5" Hybrid HD/SSD drives in it last January. No problems whatsoever until the past 2 weeks, when I started having intermittent black screens (NOT display sleep) -- sometimes the black screen would disappear by itself, sometimes I had to (Power button) shut down, and when I restarted, everything was OK. Until yesterday.
First let me note that, because I usually use the MacBook Pro in the same area in my house, I usually leave it plugged into the MagSafe power cube, and often just close the lid and put it to sleep, instead of going through start-up every time I need to access it. BTW, battery (NuPower) shows 5 solid green dots and does not seem to be a problem
Night before last, I shut down the MB Pro, and closed the lid. Yesterday, I opened up the MB Pro, and hit the power button. All I got was a brief, non-pulsing white light on the display-locking/“sleep light” button, and a sort of graunchy whisper from what sounded to me like the optical drive, NO screen activity whatsoever, and the “sleep light” went out within 3 or 4 seconds. Could hear NO HD spin-up sounds.
Tried everything I knew (not much), including disconnecting the MagSafe charger and removing the battery completely, letting it sit a few minutes, replacing battery and charger, and powering up. Same nothing, just another very brief whisper of activity from the optical drive. Being something of an “I’ll try anything, no matter how dumb it seems” idiot, I put a known, working, burned data CD-R in the optical drive. Removed the charger and battery again, waited, put everything back in. Tried to power up. Still nothing, same brief whisper from the optical drive, but the MB Pro would STILL not start up, the CD-R wouldn’t spin up OR eject, and I heard nothing from the hard drive, even with my ear ON the metal right over the drive.
My next “don’t-really-want-to-do-it” step is to remove the 1TB drive, replace it with the original 250GB drive, see if that works, and, as I have a “Newer Technology” Voyager S3 bare drive (works with both 2.5” and 3.5”) USB dock connected to my main Mac (a mid-2011 iMac, 2.7GHz Core i5, OS X 10.9.3), I’ll try using that to check the hybrid drive.
I’ve been a Mac-only user since 1989, and somehow this doesn’t seem like a drive problem. I’ve tried every OS X keyboard shortcut on the “OS X keyboard shortcuts” page, and the “sleep light” always comes on for a couple seconds, then goes out, the screen never even shows a flicker of life, and the HD NEVER spins up.
Can the forum please clue me in with any tricks I haven’t tried yet?
    Thanks
    Bart Brown

Thanks for the quick response. However, none of the following have worked:
Have you tried SMC and PRAM resets?
As usual, "sleep" light briefly illuminated -- 2-4 seconds -- then went out. No startup, no chime(s), no screen, no keyboard illumination, no HD spin-up.
Also try an Apple Hardware Test.
Same as above. Nada. "Mac NoteBook and Desktop computers shipping with OS X 10.7 or later have a partition on the hard drive or flash storage that contains AHT" -- since I can't get the drive to spin up, I can't access that partition... or anything else.
You may need the #2 installation disk.
Well, there I have TWO problems:
One is that I bought this MBPro on eBay, and received no disks -- it came with OS X 10.9.x installed (and is now at OS X 10.9.3). Is there any way to get “retail” install disks that will work with this MacBook Pro?
Second is that there's a data CD in the optical drive. Because the MBPro won't boot, I can't get the data CD out even if I had the 2nd Install DVD. Any way I can get this data CD out -- hatpin, barbecue skewer, fencing foil, sledgehammer?
I talked with OWC, from whom I bought the hybrid Seagate HDD/SSD 1TB drive last November. We tried a few ideas he had — mostly the same as those suggested by “Oglethorpe” (no relation to “Ogie” Oglethorpe in “Slapshot,” I hope!) — none of which worked, as I’ve already indicated above.
My last-ditch effort-of-desperation is to remove the hybrid Seagate HDD/SSD 1TB drive, and put in the original 250GB drive (never throw away a good drive!), and see if the MBPro returns from the dead. I will also put the hybrid Seagate HDD/SSD 1TB bare drive into my Newer Technologies Voyager S3 bare-drive dock, which takes 2.5” and 3.5” drives, and see if there’s a problem with the hybrid Seagate HDD/SSD 1TB drive. While no longer under warranty with OWC/MacSales, it IS still under a 2-year warranty with Seagate.
    Any other suggestions gladly entertained.
    Thanks again.

  • RAM Update to 8 or even 16GB on MacBook Pro 13-inch 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 mid 2012?

    Hey folks,
i heard and read rumours, that it is possible to update the ram of the MacBook Pro 13" (mid 2012/no retina) to a double 8GB RAM, making it 16GB.
    Which would be great, right?
Apple says on the support website that all the MacBooks 13" are only able to hold two 4GB making it 8.
Currently I only have the standard two times two 4GB.
So i was wondering, since I found this Crucial PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz 8GB SODIMM on the Internet if that's a fit for the rumours.
    It says on the site:
    "Guaranteed compatible with:
    MacBook Pro 13-inch 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 mid 2012
Now, has any one experience with this one?
Maybe this memory will plug both slots and that's why it says compatible?
you find the website here: http://www.macdimms.com/Crucial-PC3-12800-DDR3-1600MHz-8GB-SODIMM_p_123.html
    appreciate the help.

It won't plug both spots. To get 16 GB you will have to buy 2 sticks, one for each slot.
Apple only recommends and will suport 8 and recommends installing in pairs - so 2 slots of 4 GB each. You can always try the 2 slots of 8 and see if they will work. I would recommend ordering from crucial direct. They are one of the better memory companies around and have a website at crucial.com.
You shouldn't have any issues as the maximum non-Apple supported config is 16 GB.
    Good luck.

  • How do I tell if my MacBook Pro supports 802.11n 5GHz?

As I wait for my Apple Extreme Base Station, I was wondering if it would make sense to create two different SSID networks. One Mixed b/g for 2.4GHz devices and another one solely for 5GHz. I know my ATV2 supports 802.11n in 5GHz. As I go down my list of devices in my house, I can't tell if my MacBook Pros support the 5GHz. Both MacBook Pros are Mid 2010 models.
The reason for creating two different networks is that the AEBS downgrades your network based on the lowest device (i.e. b/g would be forced on a n device if such device connects to your network).

Of course, you are aware that n operates in both 2.4 and 5GHz.
Check AirPort in System Profiler. It should list supported modes and supported channels. Then compare supported channels to the list of WLAN channels in the 5GHz band.

No, use a direct box, the Klark Teknik DN100 specifically.

  • Macbook Pro 13 i5 2.5ghz upgrading to 16gb

    Hi! I'm trying to upgrade from 4gb to 16gb on a macbook pro 13 non retina(mid 2012 version)  2.5ghz.
It says on the apple website that it will only accept 8gb but many people on the web say it can handle 16gb
    Im trying with this kit of 2 x 8GB http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008LXX9OC/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00?ie=UTF8 &psc=1
and in About this Mac it shows only one being used and the other space empty.
    Wanted to know:
*The empty space is not being used really or even if working with 16gb it will never show?? Cause I've placed it correctly when changing the memory.
*If not being used is it better to keep with 2x4GB or 1 x 8Gb?
    Thanks!!!

A 2012 MBP will accept 16 GB RAM.
About this Mac it shows only one being used and the other space empty.
Test by reversing the chips and trying then one a time in both slots.  It may be that one chip is faulty.  Also test the slots by installing the original RAM.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 13" - 2.5GHz or 2.9GHz?

    Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of buying the 256 GB 13-inch retina macbook pro and I was wondering which processor I should get?
The 2.5 GHz or the 2.9 GHz upgrade model?
Is there a huge difference in speed when using Photoshop or Logic Pro 9? (I will use them frequently)
How much slower will video rendering in Final Cut Pro X be on the 2.5 GHz model? (occasional editing)
Basically, is the upgrade worth it?
Btw, I'm not interested in buying the 15-inch model that's why I'm asking about the 13-inch configurations.
    Thanks in advance! =)

Aperture or any application will not run 'better' on one CPU as opposed to the other CPU.  It will operate 'faster' on the 2.9 GHz CPU.
If you were to place two MBPs side by side with the two respective CPUs, for the overwhelming tasks that you will perform, you would not be able to detect any meaningful difference in the responses between the two.  In cases where a task requires a lot of processing, you might find that the faster CPU would require 85 seconds to do a given task and the other 100 seconds.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook pro airport scan picks up "HPSETUP" anyone know what this is?

My airport is picking up HPSETUP, under a devices section, This has never happened before my printer is not plugged up so does anyone know what is making this occur?
    Message was edited by: soulkidd

HPSETUP is the default SSID (network name) of HP printers with Wi-Fi. It can also be an ad-hoc network SSID being broadcast by a virus-infected computer (similar to "Free Public WiFi"). If it's not your printer, most likely, it's a nearby one. If I travel about with "ask to join networks" active on my iPhone or iPod Touch, I see "hpsetup" every few blocks (along with "linksys" and "netgear", default names for routers).
    Bottom line, ignore it.

  • I got my first Mac 2 weeks ago, a Macbook Pro. I can't get it to scan on my HP Laserjet1217 nfwMFP all in one. It prints (wirelessly) just fine. But when I try to scan, it says something like "no scanners available". Wireless or connected, it's the same.

I have not been able to get my new Macbook Pro to scan, either wirelessly or connected, with my HP Laserjet all in one M1217 nfwMFP printer. It prints wirelessly just fine, but if I try to scan, I get the message that no scanners are found. The guy in the Apple store had it scanning just fine with a new HP printer he took out of the box. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would check with HP. Your scanner may need a firmware update and updated HP software. Start here:

  • How does the MacBook air 1.7ghz processor compare to the MacBook Pro 2.5ghz processor?

    Hello Hello!
I'm a soon to be Information Science major (similar to computer science) and am in the market for a laptop that will last me at least 3-4 years. I'm trying to be as cost effective as possible while still having a configuration that will get me through my college years. I've been looking at either the 11" MacBook Air upgraded to 8gb of ram and the 1.7ghz i7 processor OR the baseline MacBook Pro with the 2.5ghz i5 processor upgraded to 8gb of ram.
I'm leaning towards the MacBook Air because of the ssd and battery life, as well as the form factor. My only worry is that the processor won't be powerful enough to meet my needs as an information science major. I know I'll be learning programming and web development, among other things. I guess to sum up my question, will the 1.7ghz MacBook Air be powerful enough to use as a main machine as a student in this field?
Screen size isn't a problem as I own a decent 20" monitor that I can use whenever I'm at my desk.
    Any feedback is much appreciated!

Noticeably greater? Probably not. I have a MBP that I upgraded to 16 GB and a SSD and my MacBook Air seems at least as fast even though its CPU is slower and it has much less memory. They are both i7 models.
It depends on exactly what you're planning to do with it, for example image manipulation will be faster on the MBP with its dedicated GPU (15" model only though), but for software development and debugging you are not likely going to notice much difference. These Macs are so fast that comparing minute differences isn't worth the effort. Comparing them on the basis of weight and portability is a better idea. The MBA is lighter, but the MBP is expandable... so the choice is likely to be more subjective than quantitative.
We don't know what any future MBP changes will be implemented. Apple's product evolution is pointing in a direction away from expandability, and it's pretty clear disk drives (both optical and HD) are on the way out. If those considerations matter to you waiting for a future upgrade may not work in your favor.
