Macbook won't fall asleep found this in Console

[0x0-0x4f04f0].com.apple.systempreferences[11053]          Couldn't find any matches
I tried to set sleep in Energy Manager and this is the Console message when I did.  Mac won't fall asleep on it's own.  All third party or applications which might cause it to stay awake were off.  I think it's a plist problem but which one?
Any body have any ideas?
Thanks,
Connie

  • MacBook won't stay asleep & pploader going nuts

Last day or two I've noticed my MacBook won't stay asleep more than a few seconds at a time... very effing frustrating.
Aside from that not only does it not sleep, it actually acts up, the fans start running and the comp gets very hot. A quick check of Activity Monitor shows that "pploader" is what is making the fans spin... I'm guessing this also has something to do with the not staying asleep issue. Not a good situation.
FYI, I recently upgraded my hard drive and switched to the Opera browser.
    Any ideas, advice? Please?
    Thanks

    HI,
    Try resetting the SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
I did a quick search on Google for, "pploader" ... check out this thread.

  • Macbook didn't fall asleep and the fan was running?

I closed my macbook this afternoon and expected it to fall asleep like every other time, but after getting back this evening, I noticed the fan was running as if it was hot, it wasn't asleep, and I had to reboot using the power button in order to get back into Mac OSX. What is going on here? Does this happen on occasion? Or do I need to take it in and get it fixed? This is the first time it has happened and I've had it for about a month and a half. Thanks for your info.

No. If something would have overheated, it would have shutdown completely, and the fan wouldn't have been running.
When your OS stops communicating with the hardware, the fan kicks in to protect the computer from catastrophic damage. Same with iMacs, Power Macs, etc. By running, it actually protected the MacBook. You should be fine.

  • PowerMac won't fall asleep

My G4 will fall asleep when I go Apple>Sleep but not after a set amount of time (As per Energy Saver). There is no new hardware installed, and the sleep feature used to work find. When looking at the activity monitor before sleep there is only the normal processes going on that shouldn't affect the sleep. I have tried deleting the .plist files that control energy saver, but that didn't help either...
So if anyone has any ideas, that'd be great!
    Thanks in advance

    Hi-
Maybe time for a new PRAM batterry..

  • Macbook won't stay asleep

Since updating to Leopard a few months ago, my Macbook will not stay asleep. It goes to sleep and wakes moments later. This keeps happening until I have to shutdown.
I brough it to an Apple Genius - he checked all my settings, diabled my infrared and bluetooth. He also checked some log which noted that the wake episodes are being caused by "usb port activity" - but nothing was ever connected to this computer. There's been no change - the thing will not stay asleep!
Any ideas? Again - there are NO settings telling it to wake up at certain times.

    Try this:
    1) Close all running programs
    2) Go to *Activity Monitor* and locate loginwindow under Process Name
    3) Click on loginwindow to highlight it and click *Quit Process* in the Tool Bar. A window comes up that instructs you to *Force Quit* - do that.
    4) Next you will be returned to the Login Screen and do so to bring up OS X.
Now try closing your computer screen and see if it sleeps.
    Hope this helps -GDF

  • Won't fall asleep, but won't wake either

my parents have a powermac g4 with dual 1.25 processors, 2 gigs of ram, and tiger 10.3.9. recently it has developed a glitch when trying to put the computer asleep. when we try to put it asleep, the computer screen goes black. however, all the fans continue to run in the tower. moving the mouse which used to bring the computer back to life does nothing. there is no way to get the screen to come back to life. turning the power switch on and off on the lcd screen brings up a no input signal message. the only thing i can do when the computer is in this unresponsive mode is to hold the power switch and turn it off manually.
i have repaired disk permissions on the hard drive using disk utility. other than that i don't know what to do. other than this the computer has been working great.
we have just bought leopard for our powermac. i want to upgrade but i would like to fix this problem. if anyone has an recommendations to fix this problem i would appreciate it. also if anyone has any recommendations i should do before i upgrade i would appreciate it. i have backed up most of what we would want in case something went wrong. i'm just curious if there are things i should check or do to make sure the upgrade will go well.
    thanks for the help.

I would try replacing the PRAM battery. There is old, but still relevant information here: http://www.academ.com/info/macintosh/
The usual signal of a low battery is incorrect date and time, but you can have a low battery that causes weird behaviour without seeing the date and time symptoms.

  • Mac won't fall asleep or stay asleep after Lion install. Why?

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 that was running perfect under Snow Leopard. Ever since upgrading to Lion, the computer wakes up randomly and will not ever go back to sleep on it's own. Under Energy Saver, I have the computer to automatically sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity but it never sleeps if left unattended. I have to manually go to the Apple menu to sleep the computer.
This is a probem for me due to the amount of power this workstation draws. I don't want it running all night, nor do I want to have to shut down after each use. What can I do??

Did you find a fix for this?

It's an add-on of some soft for iTunes:

Perhaps you know it under another name? Have a look in /Library/LaunchDaemons. If you find anything remove it. There may be an uninstaller available with the associated application?

  • MacBook falls asleep out of nowhere- Help!

I am so frustrated. I just completed two hours worth of work and it's gone because my MacBook Pro just falls asleep out of nowhere and won't wake up. I had to restart it. It has done it now three times. I am running Cinematize, so the disc drive is at work and I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Also, it fell asleep all times when I just barely moved the laptop. Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong. Again, my computer is only two months old and I never had this problem with my old white MacBook.
I also cloned my new MacBook Pro from my old MacBook 10.5.7. Could that have anything to do with it?
    Thanks so much in advance.

I also cloned my new MacBook Pro from my old MacBook 10.5.7. Could that have anything to do with it?
It certainly could. Your two-month-old MBP shouldn't even be able to start up in OS X 10.5.7. Even if it does anyway, I wouldn't expect for one moment that it would behave properly running that OS version.

After I wake it up again, I'll see growl notifications about magicprefs (wich is standard after awaking my macbook). Does anybody have an answer as to how to keep my macbook pro from falling asleep every 2 minutes? Thanxzzzzzzzz...... Huh?

  • Doesn't Fall Asleep!

My Mac is suffering from insomnia. It does not fall asleep unless I force it asleep. My energy settings can be set to whtever, yet it won't fall asleep unless I manually do it.
The display will sleep, but the main processor will just run and run. Any suggestions on why this is so?

None what-so-ever. Although, you can often find out by looking in your system log using the Console utility. You should hopefully be able to find the sleep failure listed around the time it should be set to sleep.

  • Wireless connection falls asleep..

So when the tv goes on standby (screensaver active, not been used for X hrs), then come back to use it, it often drops off the network. All the other wireless stuff (iBook, MBP, PCs, iPhones etc) are still running fine, and connected without probs.
So looking in the Network options, the signal strength has no bars at all, even tho the base station is on the other side of the wall. If I go to the Configure Wireless options and wait for the list to refresh, it often wakes up the wireless connection (altho sometimes doesn't work, so have to re-enter all the details), then the signal strength comes on full, and it soon restores back to normal.
Is there anything that can be done to stop the wireless card (?) falling asleep like this, and for it to just stay connected?

thanks for the suggestions. I've extended the DHCP lease and see how that goes, if that doesn't work, then I'll try the static IP.
I did have it connected via ethernet which was awesome n quick, and never a problem.. But we moved house so the new layout doesn't really allow easily for a lead to it, as much as I'd like to do that. The base station is literally 6ft on the other side of an internal wall, so no noise/distance probs..
Will see how this goes and report back in a few days!
    Cheers!

  • PLEASE HELP! My MacBook Pro doesn't fall asleep

My MacBook Pro doesn't fall asleep on its own any more. Currently, my Energy saver is set so that the display falls asleep after 1 minute, and the computer itself, after 3 minutes. Even if I don't have any softwares running, or anything else, it doens't fall asleep. Please give me some suggestion about what to do about this! (or would I need to take it to a shop? ... )

Well, since the machine does properly sleep when the lid is closed, my guess would be that you have a software conflict and not a hardware problem. Since your are up to date, have repaired permissions, and can't remember anything else that may have changed, it could be difficult to track down the culprit.
One thing you can try, it takes a bit of work but will help show if software is the real problem. You could create a new user account, and don't install anything new in it. Log in as the new user, and see if sleep works there. Often as you use your main user profile, you accumulate software programs and utilities, and sometimes then can conflict with one another. If you create a fresh user account, often it will not have the same software conflict.
If the new account sleeps normally, then you can assume that you have a software conflict somewhere, and you should think through what you have installed. If the new user account has the same problem, my guess would be that something is out of whack with the OS, and you need to decide if a full system reinstall is worth it (that is a big decisions, don't just jump into it).
Regardless of the outcome, after you have used the second account for a test, you can simply delete it.
    Cheers,
    Josh

  • MacBook Pro won't stay asleep with external monitor attached.  When sleep is selected from the Apple menu the computer will go to sleep only to continually wake up...go back to sleep...wake up...etc. every few seconds.

MacBook Pro won't stay asleep with external monitor attached.  When sleep is selected from the Apple menu the computer will go to sleep only to continually wake up...go back to sleep...wake up...etc. every few seconds.  This only happens when using the external monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Mine does that too. The worst thing is when it goes to sleep, then wakes up and keeps running while the lid is closed and it is wrapped up in a case. I am afraid when the hot weather comes it is going to burn up. I am hoping Apple fixes it in the software or they may have a melted MBP to replace.
Then when I open the lid it is crashed running at fill tilt, pumping out heat to beat the band. I am forced to hold the button down and reboot.
I wiped my hard disk and reinstalled my OS, but it didn't help. I reversed my OS to 10.5.0 and it solved the DVI problem but still won't sleep. This post will probably be deleted by Apple, they did it a few days ago. I just don't know what to do, and I consider myself a real Apple expert. Just hoping you realize you are not the only one.

  • Display falls asleep and won't wake when connected to new Haswell MBP

For over a year now I've used my 2007 Macbook Pro and my 2004 20in Cinema display together. I woud dock my macbook pro and just use my cinema display as my main display.
I attempted to do this with my brand new macbook pro today. Purchased a Mini Display port to DVI adaptor and I can get the display to appear on my the 20in Cinema Display, but when I close my laptop it falls asleep and so does the monitor. I've been able to wake it up for about 10 seconds but then it'll fall asleep again and I can't wake it up any longer.
Has anyone had a similar issue like this and is there a solution out there?
