  • Very disapointed in Lenovo's service on my T430 machine type 2342CTO with Windows Pro 7 64 bit

I have been a ThinkPad user since the first model 700.  I have always liked them and when I have had to use other laptops I found them inferior.  However one thing my team has been telling me in the past year or two is that they do not want to purchase anymore Lenovo ThinkPad's.  They have told me that the service and support has been greatly degraded.  I was hesitant to agree with them until my present experience.  We purchase all of our ThinkPad's with a 4 year on-site warranty.  We have people who are in the field and when their computer goes down we need to get it back up and running ASAP.
Three weeks ago my hard drive started to give me some problems and  one day after shutting down the computer a message came up that it needed to run Checkdisk which it did.  I was able to keep it going and I did have a backup.   I contacted  the 800 number to talk with a service person and they ordered up service for the replacement of the hard drive and also to replace the fan and sent me the system disks for the T430.  Two days later the insight service person showed up with the parts.  The disks showed up as well via UPS.  The service person replaced the fan and the HDD.  There were 4 DVD's for the system disks.  He started the rebuild and asked if I could finish it and I said I could with no problem.  He left.  I continued the process.  After the 3rd DVD it asked to put in the 4th and when I did a message said that this was the wrong DVD.  I tried all the other 3 with the same response.  I tried building it from scratch again and the same problem.  I called support again and the guy I spoke with thought that I must have a bad DVD and he would send out another set.  That set of 4 DVD’s arrived the next day which I was very thankful for.  He told me that they could only guaranty 2 days.  I thought OK we should be up and running shortly.  The same problem occurred again.  Bear in mind that both sets of these DVD's were all labeled for the ThinkPad T430 machine type 2342 which was my laptop and for Windows Pro 7, 64 bit.  I called Lenovo and this time the tech I spoke with said that there was another set of Disks for my machine that should have been sent.  Of course I was frustrated but there was not a lot I could do about that and I asked if they could make sure that they were overnighted to me so that I would be sure to get them on the next day which was Thursday.  He told me that he could not do that, that they could only guaranty 2 day. I called the next morning to get the tracking number which they gave me and it was supposed to be delivered on Friday which I was very thankful for.  That was Good Friday.  However UPS had some severe weather at their hub in Kentucky and everything was delayed and the disks did not show up until Monday.  I had now been down a whole week from my first call the Monday before.
The new set of disks was 3 DVD’s labeled for the T430, Machine type 2342 and Windows Pro 7, 64 bit.  I started the build process.  It continued to work but I made a mistake in the order of disks so I thought that these disks have a problem too.  I called Lenovo and they said that I should just send the system in for depot repair.  I said that will take at least until probably Thursday.  The guy I was speaking to said that I should have it back by Wednesday.  I asked if there was any way that I could send it to them directly that day.  He said no I could not, I had to wait for a box.  I asked if there was anyway to expedite the process and he spoke to his manager and his manager said that the level of service that was on the machine would not allow for any faster service.  The also told me that my service contract would allow me to take it to an authorized Lenovo service center around me.  I said to him that they probably have a queue as well and that I will have to wait for that.  As an aside note we did try service like this with one of our other ThinkPad’s that had a problem and the place messed up the system and we ended up at the end of the day having to send it to their depot for repair.  I hung up and though let me try these disks one more time.  I did and I saw my mistake and the system loaded up the DVD’s properly.  I was getting excited that I could be up and running shortly.  However my excitement was short lived.  Once it started to reboot and expand the installation the drive failed and said that it had to run Checkdisk.  It did and once again there were all kinds of orphaned files etc.  I had to reboot and run it from the DVD’s again and I went through the whole process once again.  The system went into a complete failure and would not do anything.  I called back support with my case # and gave them this information.  The box came the next day and I packed it up and sent it off.  I then started tracking it and it arrived on Wednesday as expected.  Then I wanted to go to the site and track the progress of the repair.  The document you have to fill out and send back with the system gives information on where to go on the web to track the process.  My shows that it arrived on Wednesday 4/8 as expected.  The first message shows “Machine being repaired” at 08:52.  Then I checked later in the early evening hoping to see shipped back to customer.  However what I did see was the following message “Hold for Parts – Service call is on hold until parts arrive”.  Then I kept tracking it and saw another entry on 4/10 at 02:01:54 which was the same “Hold for Parts – Service call is on hold until parts arrive”.  That was of course Friday.  I called the service and they told me that they were waiting on parts which they could not tell me what parts and that there was nothing that they could do.  I then asked if there was anyway to expadite this and the girl I spoke to said that she would seek to accelerate this to another level and that I would get a call from Lenovo in the next 2 to 3 business days!  I said to her that you really mean that that is accelerating it and she said yes.  Yesterday I received a call from an automated attendant, not a real person who told me that they were waiting on parts for my computer and that it could be “5 to 7 business days before they receive the part”.  I could not believe this.  I called again today 4/15 and asked if anyone could tell me the status because the website told me very little.  I told the girl that I was speaking to that I had received this automated attendant telling me that a part would take 5 to 7 business days more.  I asked her if Lenovo kept parts and she said yes but that this part was not in stock.  I asked her what the part was and she was able to find that it was the main system board that had to be replaced.  I said you have already had the unit for 1 week now at depot repair and never mind the fact that I have been without my computer for 2.5 weeks.  She told me that there was nothing she could do and that I had to wait on the part.  That is where this case sits at present.
I am very very unimpressed with Lenovo’s service.  And furthermore there is no one to talk to about it at Lenovo who gives a care.  I really did not know where to air my grievances with how this case is being handled.  I thought maybe the forum would be a place.  At least others will learn of my dilemma and maybe others have experienced the same thing.
I still like my ThinkPad but the service of Lenovo has become very poor at best.  The guy that is my technical manager has had a poor experience of late ordering up some other Lenovo products and he does not want to purchase anymore and these were for new product.  They sent the laptop with the wrong software loaded and then said no problem we will send you a new set of disks to load.  He refused and said you have to fix this because it was Lenovo’s mistake.  It takes time to load software and time is money.  I believe we will be leaving the Lenovo field if things continue.  I hope and trust that others will not experience the same treatment as I/we have.  I wonder if Lenovo will even respond to this post.

I had a real problem with wireless performance on multiple ThinkPads with Win7 until I realized there is a new (or maybe changed implementation) power setting in Win7 which was affecting it.
If you go into Control Panel -> Power Options and click "Change plan settings" for your current power plan.
On the next screen click on "Change advanced power settings"
On the next screen expand "Wireless Adapter Settings" and then "Power Saving Mode"
Make sure it is set to Maximum Performance.
Not sure if this will help your particular problem but hope it does.

  • Help with x64: fatal error LNK1112: module machine type 'X86' conflicts with target machine type 'x64'

Hello, I am trying to complie some C code for some applications I am working on in labview (I am using Labview 2012 64bit).
When I try to build my code in Visual C++ 2010 ( I have set it up to be able to use x64) I get the following fatal error:
nivision.lib(StartupShutdown.obj) : fatal error LNK1112: module machine type 'X86' conflicts with target machine type 'x64'
Which I understand that .lib does not have a 64bit compatability. However, if I were to use 32bit code, how can I link/emulate it to my 64bit labview? Is there a good tutorial on this application? The problem is the rest of my application uses and requires 64bit labview, so I am stuck in this enviroment.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. The C code I have cross correlates images, and it does reference the image inputs and size variables from the nivision classes. I am thinking of using a side by side labview environment with shared variables. I have not done this before, do you have any good examples? Can you make the library function node a shared variable or only the elements within it?
I guess I could try to convert to labview, but the are a lot of lines of code that I would prefer not to try to wrap my head around in translation.
The LabVIEW API in Vision Development Module has functions that let you get access to all those parameters as well as the raw image data pointer. A common design is to query those items on the LabVIEW diagram and then pass them to your DLL. This would mean you wouldn't need to make any calls into the Vision DLL from your C code.
As for examples showing how to use shared variables, keep in mind that it isn't just like doing a function call. The more appropriate way to think of it would be communicating with another VI by getting and setting controls and indicators while it runs. You could put all your arguments into a shared variable and set a boolean indicating it is ready, then wait for another boolean to go high indicating the other code has finished and placed its results in another shared variable. Your application code interacts with the shared variables just like a control/indicator/local variable. This of course is a simple description and I would not be surprised if there are well-defined frameworks/examples searchable in the forums that use shared variables in this manner.

  • System update configuration issue with local repository related to machine type

    Hi,
Sorry if the issue has been posted earlier, i tried searching but cudnt find relevant post. Here is my issue:
My machine is Thinkpad R52. Type as printed on label is: 1858-CLG
While adding machine type in update retriever, I added machine type as 1858 (as it doesnt accept 1858CLG). After connecting to the support site, it downloaded all required updates onto a local(shared) repository.
I installed system update, configured it to pickup update from local (network) repository in the registry.
Now when I launch system update, it determines my machine type as 1858CLG & it connects to local repository only to display message as "No updates were found for this machine type"
Though I cud see updates if I directly connect to help center.
I think the problem is with machine type identification, not sure though.
Please advice on what I'm doing wrong. Is it with update retriever configuration or system update configuration.
    Thanks much,

Solution for me was to change status of packages from "Test" to "Active" using Update Retriever.
Since this is not documented in Best Practices (but is stated in chapter 5 - modify settings) I spent several hours figuring it out..

  • How to get detailed specifications by machine type model ?

    Hi,
I am looking for a refurbished Thinkpad Lenovo (model X220/X230, T420(s)/T430(s)).
I would like to know where I can find the detailed specifications by using the machine type model ?
For the moment, I was using the PSREF, but I discovered that not all machine type were detailed.
    For example, the machine 2324-C44.
I found this : http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x23... but the specifications seems to be incomplete : baclit keyboard ? IPS premium screen ? finger print reader ? webcam ? WWAN ?
    Thanks,

    PropertyObject ProObjResult = ProObj.GetPropertyObject("Parameters.Result",0);
The next question is how to get result by engine OnUIMessageEvent? Current is use timer loop.

  • M35-S359 Wrong Machine Type error message

Well I will try this again!
    HDD replaced
    Attempted System Restore
Failure - Error message "Wrong Machine type"
Restore Disk is Valid. I have used it before to restore the Original Drive.
Attempted to run Ghost from the Restore Disk. HDD took the Restore but will NOT boot from it.
I have taken all the proper steps in setting up the Laptop.
Others POSTed for this Model Laptop have had the same issue
Im not going to send it in to an ASP.
I am Toshiba Certified but this one has been a real Pain in the Bottomside.
Im about ready to do what one of my former Customers did to his Laptop out of frustration.
He smashed it until nothing was left.
It seems to me Toshiba want us to sell and support their products but we are not getting the support that we need!

I, too, am having this error message. I read somewhere that it is either because of the font Helvetica Nueue, or because the files is being shared between a PC and a Mac. The quickest fix I have found, is to take the pdf and open it in Illustrator and convert all the text to curves. Then it should work correctly.
I don't think anyone has found a definitive answer.

  • S30 Machine type and Serial Number are INVALID

Hello, I am wondering if I can get some help here.A while back I had a motherboard replaced by lenovo service. The machine arrived turned on once and then it died.Once the tech left the machine was used a handful of times and then stored. I a now working on it and I noticed this screen, which appreared after the mobo replacements.  Iam wondering if anyone knows how to fix this issue. What is Error 00CE really saying? Thanks

It's really saying what shows on the screen there....the serial number and machine type are invalid.  My guess is the tech that replaced your board did not update the MTM/SN fields when he flashed BIOS on the new board (if he flashed BIOS at all), and those fields are still listing the defaults that are populated by the board manufacturer.
Run the latest DOS BIOS flash package (I think current BIOS is 45 maybe for the A0 branch), and when prompted, enter the correct information from your system for the machine type and serial number.  That should alleviate the POST error you're seeing.

  • Oui is valid but for a machine type other than current

    Hi all,
I am installing SAP ERP 6 on a Windows 2008 r2 server. I have Intel Xeon CPUs 64bits. However, as I start "oracle Universal Installer" (ou)i on it, I got a message that says "that oui is valid but for a machine type other than current". I guess is beacuse of the CPU, but I am not completely sure,
Thank you in advanced for your help

  • Finding Distinct machine type & Serial number

    Hi,
I have to create a report in CRM which comprises of fields like MACHINE TYPE , SERIAL NUMBER , CLAIM ID.A particular Machine Type & Serial Number has multiple Claim ID.I have to find out the count of unique machine Type & Serial number. Can u suggest some logic ?
    Thanks,
    Saswati.

One way is if you do a shut down from within Win8, you can then press the "Novo" button just to the left of the main power button. A small blue text menu window will pop up after the Lenovo logo and, with the arrow keys, you can highlight the line to enter your BIOS from that menu.
Once you've made note of your S/N, you can press F10 to exit the BIOS and boot up Windows. Be careful about inadvertently making any changes while in the BIOS.
    Hope this helps.

  • Twist - Machine Type - Warranty - Updates

Hi, I have a new ThinkPad twist. This is my 6th ThinkPad and the X1 Carbon Touch Toga/Twist will be my 7th some time next year
The machine type and model for this unit seems to be N3C2_9UK but this is not recognised by the extended warranty form, the warranty lookup sever or the system updates server.
Instead I used the machine type and model 3347_9UK to register my warranty (still waiting for confirmation that worked).
I am unable to use the think vantage software though for a warranty lookup and for updates.
Anyone got any clues about this?
    Thanks

    Hi Kamleshrao,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
You can refer this document to find the MTM number of your desired machine.
    Hope this helps!

  • Seraial and machine type T420 Update

I change the motherbord from Lenovo ThinkPad T420 Mt: 4178-C8G and now give amessage. "2200 machine type and serial number are invalid , 2000 machine UUDI is invalid."  Anda I can not update the bios beacuse the bios version is the last one, anda I can not update serial/model.

    Hi rushabhshah,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that your H430 Desktop is displaying “Invalid Serial & Machine Type” after updating BIOS; this might have occurred if the BIOS update process is interrupted and it cannot be reverted back. Hence I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance as this the only available option to get this issue resolved.

  • S10-3 Machine Type and Model

I am hoping that someone from the Lenovo team can help me identify my S10-3 with the correct machine type and model numbers. There are multiple strings on the machine base, packaging and build sheet, but nothing that seems to map to the 3 digit model information being requested on the Lenovo support sites for BIOS & Drivers.
    On the machine:
    Ideapad S10-3
    Model Name 0647
    MO : QB00030514
    On the build sheet:
Machine Type Model : IdeaPadS10-3N450F01G2507SW3b-AU  (makes sense as a description)Machine Type Model NO : 59031892
    many thanks
    Solved!

As a follow on. I looked at the other posters similar request and replies.
The Bios info page does not specify the model . only a cryptic EC 2AEC15WW
Inputting the serial number on the web site doesn't generate the 4 digit number for me.
It only confirms that the machine is under warranty.
Re CPU-Z It doesn't display the Model number either.
Note that interestingly it reports DDR3 memory, when my S10 uses DDR2
I have seen a lot of posts on the mem upgrade subject. If I can confirm my model and if it is useful to others.
I replaced the existing mem with a corsair value select 2Gb DDR2 667 Mhz SODIMM with no issues.

  • Weblogic Machine Type in Linux

    Hi,
When installing machines on weblogic domain what is machine type in linux platform ?

When you set the value of the MachineType to "Unix", it enables additional configuration items that are available on a Unix platform (specifically the ability to post bind the running WL application to a different UID and/or GID than the account that initiated the server startup). If you do not use post-binding, then the machine type you use will not matter (although for consistency sake, it may be best to set the machine type to "Unix" if you are truly running in a Unix environment so that these values are available in the Machine configuration tab of the admin console for future use).
