Very disapointed in Lenovo's service on my T430 machine type 2342CTO with Windows Pro 7 64 bit

I have been a ThinkPad user since the first model 700.  I have always liked them and when I have had to use other laptops I found them inferior.  However one thing my team has been telling me in the past year or two is that they do not want to purchase anymore Lenovo ThinkPad's.  They have told me that the service and support has been greatly degraded.  I was hesitant to agree with them until my present experience.  We purchase all of our ThinkPad's with a 4 year on-site warranty.  We have people who are in the field and when their computer goes down we need to get it back up and running ASAP.
Three weeks ago my hard drive started to give me some problems and  one day after shutting down the computer a message came up that it needed to run Checkdisk which it did.  I was able to keep it going and I did have a backup.   I contacted  the 800 number to talk with a service person and they ordered up service for the replacement of the hard drive and also to replace the fan and sent me the system disks for the T430.  Two days later the insight service person showed up with the parts.  The disks showed up as well via UPS.  The service person replaced the fan and the HDD.  There were 4 DVD's for the system disks.  He started the rebuild and asked if I could finish it and I said I could with no problem.  He left.  I continued the process.  After the 3rd DVD it asked to put in the 4th and when I did a message said that this was the wrong DVD.  I tried all the other 3 with the same response.  I tried building it from scratch again and the same problem.  I called support again and the guy I spoke with thought that I must have a bad DVD and he would send out another set.  That set of 4 DVD’s arrived the next day which I was very thankful for.  He told me that they could only guaranty 2 days.  I thought OK we should be up and running shortly.  The same problem occurred again.  Bear in mind that both sets of these DVD's were all labeled for the ThinkPad T430 machine type 2342 which was my laptop and for Windows Pro 7, 64 bit.  I called Lenovo and this time the tech I spoke with said that there was another set of Disks for my machine that should have been sent.  Of course I was frustrated but there was not a lot I could do about that and I asked if they could make sure that they were overnighted to me so that I would be sure to get them on the next day which was Thursday.  He told me that he could not do that, that they could only guaranty 2 day. I called the next morning to get the tracking number which they gave me and it was supposed to be delivered on Friday which I was very thankful for.  That was Good Friday.  However UPS had some severe weather at their hub in Kentucky and everything was delayed and the disks did not show up until Monday.  I had now been down a whole week from my first call the Monday before.
The new set of disks was 3 DVD’s labeled for the T430, Machine type 2342 and Windows Pro 7, 64 bit.  I started the build process.  It continued to work but I made a mistake in the order of disks so I thought that these disks have a problem too.  I called Lenovo and they said that I should just send the system in for depot repair.  I said that will take at least until probably Thursday.  The guy I was speaking to said that I should have it back by Wednesday.  I asked if there was any way that I could send it to them directly that day.  He said no I could not, I had to wait for a box.  I asked if there was anyway to expedite the process and he spoke to his manager and his manager said that the level of service that was on the machine would not allow for any faster service.  The also told me that my service contract would allow me to take it to an authorized Lenovo service center around me.  I said to him that they probably have a queue as well and that I will have to wait for that.  As an aside note we did try service like this with one of our other ThinkPad’s that had a problem and the place messed up the system and we ended up at the end of the day having to send it to their depot for repair.  I hung up and though let me try these disks one more time.  I did and I saw my mistake and the system loaded up the DVD’s properly.  I was getting excited that I could be up and running shortly.  However my excitement was short lived.  Once it started to reboot and expand the installation the drive failed and said that it had to run Checkdisk.  It did and once again there were all kinds of orphaned files etc.  I had to reboot and run it from the DVD’s again and I went through the whole process once again.  The system went into a complete failure and would not do anything.  I called back support with my case # and gave them this information.  The box came the next day and I packed it up and sent it off.  I then started tracking it and it arrived on Wednesday as expected.  Then I wanted to go to the site and track the progress of the repair.  The document you have to fill out and send back with the system gives information on where to go on the web to track the process.  My shows that it arrived on Wednesday 4/8 as expected.  The first message shows “Machine being repaired” at 08:52.  Then I checked later in the early evening hoping to see shipped back to customer.  However what I did see was the following message “Hold for Parts – Service call is on hold until parts arrive”.  Then I kept tracking it and saw another entry on 4/10 at 02:01:54 which was the same “Hold for Parts – Service call is on hold until parts arrive”.  That was of course Friday.  I called the service and they told me that they were waiting on parts which they could not tell me what parts and that there was nothing that they could do.  I then asked if there was anyway to expadite this and the girl I spoke to said that she would seek to accelerate this to another level and that I would get a call from Lenovo in the next 2 to 3 business days!  I said to her that you really mean that that is accelerating it and she said yes.  Yesterday I received a call from an automated attendant, not a real person who told me that they were waiting on parts for my computer and that it could be “5 to 7 business days before they receive the part”.  I could not believe this.  I called again today 4/15 and asked if anyone could tell me the status because the website told me very little.  I told the girl that I was speaking to that I had received this automated attendant telling me that a part would take 5 to 7 business days more.  I asked her if Lenovo kept parts and she said yes but that this part was not in stock.  I asked her what the part was and she was able to find that it was the main system board that had to be replaced.  I said you have already had the unit for 1 week now at depot repair and never mind the fact that I have been without my computer for 2.5 weeks.  She told me that there was nothing she could do and that I had to wait on the part.  That is where this case sits at present.
I am very very unimpressed with Lenovo’s service.  And furthermore there is no one to talk to about it at Lenovo who gives a care.  I really did not know where to air my grievances with how this case is being handled.  I thought maybe the forum would be a place.  At least others will learn of my dilemma and maybe others have experienced the same thing.
I still like my ThinkPad but the service of Lenovo has become very poor at best.  The guy that is my technical manager has had a poor experience of late ordering up some other Lenovo products and he does not want to purchase anymore and these were for new product.  They sent the laptop with the wrong software loaded and then said no problem we will send you a new set of disks to load.  He refused and said you have to fix this because it was Lenovo’s mistake.  It takes time to load software and time is money.  I believe we will be leaving the Lenovo field if things continue.  I hope and trust that others will not experience the same treatment as I/we have.  I wonder if Lenovo will even respond to this post.

I had a real problem with wireless performance on multiple ThinkPads with Win7 until I realized there is a new (or maybe changed implementation) power setting in Win7 which was affecting it.
If you go into Control Panel -> Power Options and click "Change plan settings" for your current power plan.
On the next screen click on "Change advanced power settings"
On the next screen expand "Wireless Adapter Settings" and then "Power Saving Mode"
Make sure it is set to Maximum Performance.
Not sure if this will help your particular problem but hope it does.

Not a solution yet, but received the following from one of the tech people I've been e-mailing back & forth with.
"I'm sorry that you have been unable to submit your podcast. The podcast submission form is currently offline. When trying to submit the podcast you will receive this message "We are Currently Experienced Technical Difficulties". Once the issue has been resolved, I would be glad to inform you.

  • Microphone very quiet even when fully turned up. speakers ok. hp g6000 notebook with windows 7

Have tried loading new driver but I am advised that I already have the latest driver for conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221.
Have also tried downloading sp.30399 but the problem persists,
I am the second owner of the machine but believe it originally ran under windows Vista when the built in microphone worked well and that it stopped working when he upgraded to windows 7.
    Can anyone help please?

BSOD's are never good. They point to a problem much bigger and deeper than any software issues.
When XP came out eleven years ago, people were astonished at how much processor it took to handle the GUI vs Windows 98. Processors an RAM have upgraded a lot since then. It was worse with VIsta, even on newer systems. Seven was a step in the right direction, but I'd guess that your old computer (your words, not mine) isn't up to the task of running Windows 7.

  • How to create recovery disks for Lenovo H530s with WIndows 8.1

    Hello there,
    I just purchased a Lenovo Hf30s type 10131 with Windows 8.1, mini tower: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/lenovo-h-series-desktops/lenovo-h5...
I like to create recovery disks, but  the already installed program OneKey Recovery does not have the option of recovery disks, it allows only larger media such as USB stick and hard disks.
Here to I have 2 questions:
    1. Is there a way to create a recovery disks that will create the original factory settings with 5 partitions?
    2. Does any one knows if the recovery siskd sold by Lenovo (for Netherlands they cost between 23 and 38 Euro) would do the job by creating the factory settings with 5 partitions?
My goal is to reformat the hard disk and aprtitionig it the way I need it, but in case of anything, I would like to be able to go back to the original facttory state of the unit, especially if I have a harddisk failure and neer to replace the hard didks.
Thank you in advance and I wish you a very pleasant and successful day.

  • Attention! Laptop Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 10 is not compatible with Windows 8.1

    Attention!
Laptop Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 10 is not compatible with Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Update (pre-installed operating system is Windows 8.0) .
More specifically, after update for Windows 8.1 all the  drivers (including the latest)  Intel (R) Iris (TM) graphics, Intel (R) Iris (TM) Pro graphics and Intel (R) HD GRAPHICS  installed on this laptop  does not support out of the sleep mode.
This has been checked many times by different users laptop Flex 10.
Any comments from Lenovo are absent. By Lenovo specifications for this notebook there are no conflicts with Windows 8.1. It is not true!
It is unclear why Lenovo has admitted this deficiency.
I think Lenovo Flex 10 is a mistake that will cost the company Lenovo.

    Mine came with Windows 8.1

  • Very disapointed

I got myself an X60 Tablet a little under 3 years ago, and I must say I'm very disapointed in it.
I've had to send it back in for repairs to the LCD hinge, and again for a dead fan. When I first sent it in, I didn't even get the hinge cover back, and they failed to replace it the next time as-well. The caseing is of mediocer quality it scratches with next to no use, the corners are wiped right down to the plastic with very light use.
While it is a good looking laptop with a lot of functionality for a working/traveling person, unfortunately it isn't resilient enough for any kind of work. I'll have to send it in again for the trackpoint as its acting up and It isn't a driver problem. When I bought that laptop I expected it to last much longer, while it still functions I will be forced to get rid of it once the guarentee is over as I can't afford to waste my time with Lenovo support.
The service is less than unsatisfactory, it took nearly a month for me to get my computer back after it's first round of repairs,  and the "Tech" support that have no idea what their talking about and arn't very "Pro"-active, I had to talk to at least 10 different people just to firgure out weather or not they were done repairing my laptop Add to that the nearly 2 month wait to receive it when I first bought it, Seems to me I've was without a laptop for an awfull long time dispite paying one pretty nasty premium to get something that was supposed to be "Top of the line".
I've been using thinkpads for most of my life but this kind of quality, at the price I payed is unaceptable, I highly doubt I'll be buying another Thinkpad any time soon.

  • Very disapointed, SP13 doesn't runs on SUN Cluster!!

Hello, this is the 3rd time that we tried to install a support package in our productive SAP Enterprise Portal (SP10, SP12, SP13), and fails again.
We restore the SP09 backup, and doesn't work also, and now we haven't portal!
How is possible this? We are very disapointed, SAP support can't solve the problem.
I have a published blog with more comments about this:
    http://rafaelco.blogspot.com

I have succefully installed SP 9, SP 12 and SP 13 in SUN Solaris 9, with many problems as well but It worked at the end.
If you tell me what kind of problems do you are you facing, maybe I can help.

  • Re: Complaint about Lenovo Customer Service

Lenovo Customer Service is a FRAUD!!!!!!
I have a LENOVO IdeaPad 560Y that worked for only for three month (video get faulty until laptop finally went dark), afterward I have to send it to LENOVO customer service under its one year warranty.  It were months until I received back a supposedly repaired laptop just one month before the warranty expires, and guest what...the laptop only endure one month of work.
One year later I decided to send that laptop to a third party well reputed maintenance service (they did not charge your anything until they are sure they car repair the machine), and guess this....they said they could not repair a so badly repaired motherboard, it was burned down in a really faulty attempt to repair a soldering problem with the graphic chip (it was the problem from the beginning).
Of course, Customer Service asked me to extend my warranty for two more years when they had this laptop, something I did not agree (it was a bad enough experience with LENOVO already).  Now I guess they were screening me to check if they could send me the worse mobo available, the one that will only survive a few months, just enough to have it warranty expires.
If you think that buying a 1300 USD laptop for only using it 4 months (total) is a good deal, keep buying crap from Lenovo and trust the scammer from Customer Service a its Repair Shop.

  • Local Mac Store visit - very disapointed with Final Cut...test!

Was at the Apple store this eve doing a little test...
    Very dissapointed....
I dropped in a 18 second 1.5MB quicktime file and it would not play on the canvas, very disapointing. As a recent swithcher trying out all different machines, I was surprised it would not play.
Then, I came home and loaded up FCP 5.1.1 on my iMAC, exported a 3 second file, re-imported, added one FX and got the dropped frame rate. Surely since these are faster in some respects than the G5, I am having trouble adjusting.
As a Vegas user, as well as tester, you could apply transitions on the fly and see how they worked or not, in FCP, it would not play one FX without an error.
    What is the bottle neck?

I haven't tried doing what you did, but I notice that the Macs in the stores are setup to reject any changes to their software or contents. There are two layers of protection, and it appears to work very well. Anything added seems to just disappear within about a minute, or perhaps it's that one change disappears before a second can be completed, at least that's the way it appears to me.
I'd suggest getting someone at the store, perhaps the manager or assistant mgr to go over the machines' capabilities with you. I'd like to think they have some level of access. And you don't have to worry about getting a hard sell sales pitch from Apple employees, as they aren't trained that way.

  • Nokia 770 Very Disapointed

I got my nokia 770 two days ago and so far finding is very disapointing.
Some websites I cant log into using itexample this website. I cant set the email on there to aol even tho I can log onto aol mail read my mail that way I am trying to install gaim but when I log in I get missing protocol plugin for [email protected]
If anyone can help me with these problem it would be very nice many thanks

The 770 does not support Java applets (J2SE, Java 2 Standard Edition) as embedded on web pages.
I don't know what the Flash support in the 770 is, but in the newer N800 it works OK.
Hotmail does not support Internet standard messaging protocols (SMTP for sending, and IMAP4 or POP3 for receiving), so you need to access it via the browser. If you have difficulties with the regular pages (e.g., they expect Internet Explorer, ActiveX support or some such), try going through http://mobile.msn.com instead.

  • Lenovo Yoga with Windows 8 Pro, Office 2013 and Visual Studio

For you developer types, I just wanted to post a message and let you know my experience with Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 as a development machine. I bought Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 from Bestbuy for $999.99. As expected, it came with a crap ton of bloatware installed by Lenovo.
Here is a summary of what I did to it (I take no responsilibity for accuracy of below information. You are on your own if you decide to follow them. I am just putting this down from my memory so that I can look it up in the future if I ever need to do this again).
    INITIAL CLEANUP
Installed Lenovo hotfix for partition cleanup/merging: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS033035
    Installed Lenovo Touchpad driver fix.
CAUTION: I take no responsibility for below steps. I am writing them from memory and if you decide to follow them and end up making your machine unusable, you are on your own as Lenovo might not honor your warranty.
BACK UP ENTIRE DISK (requires an empty USB flash drive for booting and another external USB drive for backup)
Copied Drivers from D_Backup folder to the external USB hard drive (plugged into USB 3.0 port).
Installed Paragon Backup & Recovery 2012 Free: http://www.paragon-software.com/home/br-free/
Created Paragon Backup & Recovery boot USB flash drive with default Linux recovery environment option (flash drive plugged into USB 2.0 port).
    Shutdown Lenovo Yoga.
Plugged in the Paragon Backup & Recovery boot USB flash drive (USB 2.0 port).
Pressed the one key recovery button (next to power button). Went to BIOS.
In the BIOS, enabled Legacay mode and made Legacy high priority and saved the changes.
The machine booted into Paragon Backup & Recovery mode. From there, made a backup of entire disk to the external USB hard drive.
Shut down the machine, pressed the one key recovery button (next to power button). Went to BIOS. Turned off Legacy mode and switched back to UEFI boot mode and saved the changes and restarted the machine.
Logged into the machine and verified that everything was good and checked the external USB drive to verify that the backup image was present.
MAKE WINDOWS 8 PRO BOOT USB FLASH DRIVE (requires a second empty USB flash drive and a second computer with Windows 7. This USB Flash Drive has to be between 4GB to 32GB as Windows won't format 64GB flash drives to FAT32 mode)
(Note: I installed Windows 8 Pro in UEFI mode. See http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/install-windows-8-usb.htm)
You need a licensed ISO image of Windows 8 Professional Full version (not the upgrade version) from your MSDN or Technet subscription or create an ISO from the Windows 8 Pro full version DVD.
Download Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool on the computer with windows 7.
Plug in the second empty USB flash drive (has to be at least 4GB but less than 32GB) into the computer with Windows 7.
Using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and the ISO file, create the Windows 8 Pro bootable USB Flash drive.
Create a new folder on your computer disk, for example, C:\WIN8USB.
Copy all the files from your USB flash drive to the newly created folder (created in the previous step).
Right click on the USB drive icon in Computer window and select “Format…” from the context menu. Make sure you select “FAT32 (Default)” in “File system” drop down menu. Click “Start” and wait till the drive gets formatted. This step is needed because NTFS is not readable by BIOS in UEFI boot mode. During formatting, MBR is preserved so the thumbdrive is still bootable.
Copy all the files from the folder you created earlier (C:\WIN8USB, for example) to the formatted drive. Your Windows 8 installation USB drive is ready to install in UEFI mode.
    WIPE THE DISK PARTITIONS
Shut down the machine, pressed the one key recovery button (next to power button). Went to BIOS, enabled Legacay mode and made Legacy high priority and saved the changes.
Booted into Paragon Backup & Recovery boot USB flash drive again. This time, I deleted all partitions on the primary disk (Disk 0). CAUTION: This WILL wipe your hard disk and will make your machine unusable!!!
Shut down the machine, pressed the one key recovery button (next to power button). Went to BIOS. Turned off Legacy mode and switched back to UEFI boot mode and saved the changes and shut down the machine.
At this point, the disk is wiped clean. All factory installed software and recovery partitions are gone!!!
    INSTALL WINDOWS 8 PRO
Plug in the USB Flash Drive with Windows 8 Pro install files.
Windows 8 Installer would show the unallocated disk space. I can't remember the exact details but either I had to click on Delete or New to delete and then create a new GPT partition. The entire partition was about 119GB.
From that point, follow the Windows 8 Pro installation steps.
After booting up into Windows 8 Pro, plug the external USB drive that had the drivers folder backed up from D_backups.
Install all the drivers from this folder (I was able to install everything except for one Intel fast boot one because of missing partition but my Yoga still boots up just as fast).
Go to device manager to check and everything should be good now.
    Run Windows Update.
You should now have about 101GB free on C: drive!!
INSTALL VISUAL STUDIO, SQL SERVER and OFFICE 2013 ON LENOVO YOGA 13
I installed the following in that order:
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer edition (I installed all components, everything!). Then I installed latest service pack.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 (I installed all components, everything!). Then I installed latest service pack.
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Developer edition(I installed all components, everything!). Then I installed latest service pack.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2012(I installed all components, everything!)
I ran Windows update and also installed Nov 2012 updates of SQL Server Data tools.
I then installed Office 2013 Pro Plus.
MAKE LENOVO YOGA 13 MORE SECURE
Go to Control Panel and enable Windows Defender (it is included by default in Windows 8 and is anti-virus and anti-malware solution)
Enable full hard-disk encryption using BitLocker feature of Windows 8 Pro. Since Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 doesn't have hardware TPM, you have to enable password based option. For this, follow the steps here: http://rics.partners.org/show_article.php?id=274.
Basically, you go to GPEDIT.MSC and Open Computer Configuration => Administrative Templates => Windows Components => BitLocker Drive Encryption => Operating System Drives. From the right pane double-click "Require additional authentication at startup. Select Enabled radio button and check the box for "Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM...". Click OK and close the policy editor. Then Right-click your C drive in the Computer folder, click Turn on BitLocker. Then select Enter a password instead of USB option. Then provide a strong password (make sure to write it down and put it in a SAFE place, if you lose the password, no one can boot into your hard disk). Then select Save to a file and save it to the External Drive. Select "Encrypt entire drive...", click Next. When this is done, you will get a pop-up on the lower-right a prompt to restart the computer. Restart your PC. Enter the encryption password created earlier. If you are successful in getting into Windows, you're all set.
I also hooked up to Skydrive and used BoxCryptor to encrypt my files in cloud.
The available free disk space should now be about 54GB.
I verified that Lenovo Yoga 13 works like a champ with no slowdown with Visual Studio 2010, Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Server Management Studio open simultaneously and Bitlocker enabled!
The keyboard right SHIFT key is small but other than that, it can work as a great portable development machine and Microsoft Reader is great for reading PDF eBooks.
So if you are a Developer on Microsoft platform, go right ahead. Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 is great for running Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 (1600x900 resolution is totally usable) while on the move. Since I have only had this machine for a few days, I can't tell much about the long term reliability.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you for posting this. I am in this exact situation. I purchased a yoga 13, and installed Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Phone. As it turns out, the Windows Phone Emulator ONLY works in a Windows 8 Pro environment. Since the Yoga doesn't have a disc drive, I shared my W7 computer's cd drive, then put in Windows 8 Pro, so that it could install onto the Yoga. Well, after the installation was done, I tried running my program again and ran into the same issue. It prompted me that my environment must be Windows 8 Pro! I thought that Windows 8 Pro already installed but, what confuses me is that I see no indication that Windows 8 Pro installed. When I go to the System Window, it reads: "Windows 8". Should it read Windows 8 Pro?
Ultimately, I'd like to know, are you able to execute the Windows Phone Emulator? I'm not sure as to whether the Yoga has the hardware capability (needs to be SLAT enabled or something like that?), I HOPE it is able to, and judging by your post, it seems like it but I'd love to know your perspective on my approach.
Please let me know if this makes sense, as I'm new to this kind of thing but really want to start development for Windows Phone.
