MacPro 4.1 (2009) Won't allow optical in to be sent through optical out

I have tried adjusting the the settings for my digital input (PS3) to be routed through my digital output (surround sound system with limited digital inputs) and it still doesn't seem to play through. I ave tried adjusting the settings in the Audio/MIDI Setup app under Applications/Utilities - however, the "thru" option is greyed out. Any ideas?
Thanks

The "thru" setting in Audio Midi Setup Utility is for external audio devices with hardware pass-through support. The built-in audio hardware does not support this. You need an application to copy the audio input to output. The simplest is LineIn

  • Why does this iPad not save sent messages and won't allow a message to be sent to trash?

Received a used iPad as a gift.  In email, it won't save any sent messages, nor will it allow me to Trash a message.  Sent email goes out, but no copy saved in any folder. When I try to delete  a message, it temporarily disappears but comes back when I open mail again.  Also get message that says "Unable to move message to Trash."
    Thanks for your help
    Clearheart

For the deleting emails, try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
A second option if that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app via the taskbar : double-click the home button to open the taskbar and then swipe or drag the Mail app's 'screen' up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
And a third thing to try is to go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.
For the sent emails check what folder they are being stored, in a similar way to the above third option for deleting emails.

  • Unistall driver whiz - won't allow me to unistall/change through Control Panel - HELP!!

Help - I accidentally clicked OK on this program (Driver Whiz) while trying to upload software from Logitech. I finally found the correct (free) website to upload the software for my webcam, but now this Driver Whiz is on my desktop and won't allow me to unistall it. Only option I get is to change & when I click that it keeps asking me to finish installing this program. Do I need to complete this then try and unistall? Why can't I get rid of the whole thing now??

Did you find the solution to your problem?
If not, I think I may know.
    Excel 2007 is a 32-bit application.
When installing 32-bit applications in a 64-bit environment, the "default" location is:
    C:\Program files (x86)\...
Excel then launches from this location.
However, when it connects to Oracle and passes the name of the calling program, Oracle attempts to "interpret" the value of (x86) as if
the value within the parenthesis are being passed as a reference. Of course, iOracle doesn't find anything, so the result is (),
and then it cannot return the connection info back to the calling application.
I corrected it by installing Excel in C:\Program Files\, and once launched from that location, it works the same as on the 32-bit machines.
However, at my location, they are FORCING Excel to be installed in the(x86) location.
What I'm trying to discover now is:
Is it possible to flag Oracle to NOT process the embedded variables?
Or, is it possible to assign a variable in Oracle such that x86 = "(x86)", so that the end result is viable?
Have you had any luck with your installation?
    thanks,
    Paul

iPod touch won't allow FaceTime to load, is there any fix out there for this?

With the limited amount of information you provided all I can suggest is the standard fixes.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Did it ever work?
What exactly happens whe you tap on the FT app icon?

So I'm trying to buy and download aperture from the apple page. It won't allow me to do so and I wonder if it is because I have a 2009 Macbook Pro. Do I need to buy an older version of Aperture?

Ceck, if your Mac can run 10.7.5

If your Mac can run the System, buy the System at the AppStore. Mt. Lion will be directly available. For Lion visit an Apple Store and buy a thumbs drive installer.

  • IMac won't allow me to login after few hours

    Hi everyone...
My iMac won't allow me to login after few hours. Actually I had a limited broadband connection which is free from 2AM to 8AM. So I have scheduled some downloads to start at 2AM and end at 8AM. Before going to bed, I just put on the screen saver. When I wake early in the morning and move my mouse.. blank screen turns on and colorful spinning wheel appears, but log-in window doesn't appear. This has happened thrice till now. Day before yesterday it was fine. But yesterday and today I got the same problem. Previously also it was working fine. I can't figure out why it is behaving like this...
Initially, in Power save options, I scheduled iMac to wake up at 2AM and sleep at 8AM and then used to put iMac to sleep before going to bed. It was working fine and did the same thing for more than a month. Now I have removed wakeup & sleep scheduled options from Power save options.
    Following are the settings/options selected:
    1. In energy save options, I have selected the option not to put iMac to sleep when it is inactive for certain time.
    2. Put hard-disks to sleep whenever possible is checked.
    3. I have scheduled the downloads in Azureus, Transmission and Speed download 5.
Following are the temps and rpms:
    Temps:
    HD: iMac, Vista: 124 F
    CPU A: 117
    Airport Card: 151 F
    Ambient: 83 F
    GPU: 133 F
    GPU Diode: 137 F
    GPU Heatsink: 137 F
    HD Bay1: 124 F
    Mem Controller: 121 F
    Optical Drive: 110 F
    Power supply1: 162 F
    Fans:
    CPU Fan: 1198 rpm
    Hard Drive: 1199rpm
    Optical Drive: 998rpm
One more thing, recently I have reset the SMU because it is taking too long to boot up. To my surprise, after restarting, fan (not sure which one) started to make bigger sounds. I then had to reset SMU two times and only then fan started to spin normally without any noise. I'm scared & worried...
Someone please help me where I went wrong.... what can I do to solve this problem..
You know I purchased this iMac for Rs.86000/- INR ($2097 approx.) ... after two months they slashed the prices by Rs.20000/- INR($487 approx.)... so this is how my luck seems to be

Hello and sorry. First, if you reset the SMU. make sure you do not hold the power button down while reconnecting the cable or it will reset the SMC incorrectly.
When you say you are logging in, are you logging onto the internet, or onto the computer/user account?
If it is intermittent than it sounds like your internet and that would be best handled by your internet provider first.
The following article is good for troubleshooting issues and you may wish to bookmark it.

If it is your internet you are referring to than try going to the Apple in the top left corner and clicking on it.
Than click on the System Preferences
    Then click on Network
    Then click on Assist Me.
    Then Assistant
    Maybe call it Test Location
go through the steps involved and see the outcome.
Sorry for the delay and if this does not help at all. But I will check back if you return with more information I will do what I can to help you. Also may wanna check out applecare protection plan from apple and also the article below:

  • I bought a second hand MacBook Air and it won't allow me to install updates as up pops the previous owners log in details. How do I go about amending this?

I bought a second hand MacBook Air and it won't allow me to install updates as up pops the previous owners log in details. How do I go about amending this?

The seller was remiss in not properly preparing the Mac for sale. That task has now fallen to you. You will encounter continual problems until you perform the following. Ignore references to DVD since the MacBook Air has none.
If you are unable to do that contact the seller and request instructions, or arrange for its return and a refund of your costs.
Refer to What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
If you enabled FileVault, disable it in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
"Deauthorize" your iTunes account. Same for Audible if you have one.
System Preferences > iCloud > de-select "Back to My Mac" and "Find my Mac".
Sign out of iCloud. Select "Delete from Mac" when it appears.
Next: Remove all your personal information by completely erasing the Mac's internal storage.
If your Mac shipped with a grey System Install DVD, start your Mac with that disc inserted in the optical drive while holding the c key to boot from it instead of its internal volume, which should be erased before selling it.
If your Mac did not ship with discs, boot OS X Internet Recovery:
using three fingers press and hold the following keys: ⌘(command), option, and R.
With a fourth finger press the power button to turn on the Mac.
Keep the other three fingers where they are until you see the "spinning globe" icon.
This method forces the Mac to download its originally installed OS from Apple's servers, which will not require an Apple ID to install.
Remove any Open Firmware password if you created one: select Firmware Password Utility from the Utilities menu and remove it.
Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Remove any partitions you may have created.
Select the Mac's hard disk icon, then select the "Erase" tab.
Select the "Security Options" button and erase the disk.
The more "securely" you erase the disk, the longer it will take.
The fastest method is sufficient since all but the most expensive techniques and equipment will be able to recover securely erased data.
When it finishes, quit Disk Utility.
Select Install Mac OS X from the Utilities menu.
An Apple ID will not be required. If a prompt for an Apple ID appears, return to Step 5.
Do not create any user accounts.
When it finishes, shut down the computer.
If you want to install the bundled apps that were included with your Mac, restart by using your Applications DVD if one was included, and install the bundled apps. Apps bundled with newer Macs that shipped without discs cannot be transferred. Its new owner must purchase them from the Mac App Store using his or her own Apple ID.
If the Mac is being sold to someone outside the family consider the following additional information:
System Install DVDs that came with your Mac should remain with it forever, and must be included with the sale.
Consider including your AppleCare certificate if you bought it, printed documentation, even the box if you still have it. AppleCare stays with the equipment and is transferable.
Execute a bill of sale showing the Mac's serial number.
Once no longer in your possession, remove the Mac from your devices in My Support Profile.

  • Site with editable regions won't allow editing

Hi, I have set up multple sites for InContext Editing. All works fine except this last one that won't allow editing online. When clicking "Edit Page" I get a message saying "There are no editable regions." I have checked and double checked the pages and the regions are there. I've reflowed the content into all pages (template) but I still get the same message in InContext.
Please help me figure out what's wrong and how I can get the pages editable.
    Here's a link to the website http://www.nolimithockey.com

InContext Editing can edit only the elements having the ice:editable
    attribute set.
Your page should contain something like this:
    >
<!-- the following DIV is an ICE editable region -->
    <div ice:editable="*">
       some editable content here
    </div>
    >
But there are no such elements in the
    http://www.nolimithockey.com/index.html page.
    >
You say you can see the ICE regions in that page so I can only assume that
you didn't upload the file on the FTP server and you are looking at your
local version of the file, not the one from the server.
    >
Another possibility is that you mistakenly treat Dreamweaver Template
Editable Regions as InContext Editable Editable Regions.
I  can see that there are DW editable regions in your page: the elements
    located between the <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="Headline" > and <!
    InstanceEndEditable --> comments.
    >
    >
You can create ICE editable regions by selecting in Dreamweaver an element
and applying the Create Editable Region command under the DW menbu Insert ->
InContext Editing menu, see the image:

  • Firefox keeps remembering a website and won't allow me to log out and will not return to login page. been to cookies, saved passord options, nothing helps

firefox keeps remembering a website and won't allow me to log out and will not return to login page. been to cookies, saved password options, says no password is saved but it is. nothing helps

It might be that you are logged in with HTTP authentication (either basic or digest). This authentication is arranged by the browser, so you would have seen a pop-up dialog asking for a user name and password while logging in. It seems that these are cached by the browser and it requires you to restart the browser to log out...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_access_authentication
    http://www.tolaris.com/2009/09/08/logging-out-of-http-auth-with-firefox/
Because I found that having to restart the browser quite annoying I stumbled on this question and also on the HTTP Logout add-on that allows you to log out without restarting your browser. Not many sites use HTTP Authentication, but you might give it a try.

  • MacBook (Mid 2009) won't turn on after installing software updates.

My macbook white (mid 2009) won't turn on. I was going to install mountain lion so I performed a software update. I click install and reboot. It installed within a few minutes, but when it was rebooting the apple logo and the buffering sign popped up, and that went on over night. So I held down the power button to turn it off. It did the same thing, what should I do?

Not the right time to update and go to sleep. What updates? How much free space was on the hard drive?
Try inserting the OS installer disk in the optical drive and powering up holding down the c key.

If your not hearing dial tone you might have your phone plugged into the wrong port. Most modems have 2 outlets, one is labeled line ( that is the one you should have plugged into the jack (RJ11C). If that's correct, query the modem and see if it tests OK, you may have a defective modem.

  • App store keeps asking for old owner's password when I try to download updates, even though I am logged into my Apple account. It won't allow me to change ID to mine.

I bought a used iMac recently, and sometimes the app store asks for the user password of the previous owner (and displays former owner's ID). It won't allow me to change ID to mine, even though I am signed into store with my own account (and this is shown in dropdown menu).  How can I make the store recognize my ID for downloads?

It is showing updates because your machine is tied to the original purchase and will remain so until you wipe the drive.
As you purchased it used and the seller obviously did not do what he was supposed to do and that is erase the hard drive and reinstall the original system, you will run in to far more difficult problems when you need to reinstall for whatever reason. The new licensing requirements are that any mac is sold with the original OS - any OS or app obtained at the app store is NOT transferable and the buyer needs to purchase their own license. That means you will not be able to reinstall the OS.
At some point, you will need to try to get either the original install disks (from the seller or Apple) and wipe your drive and reinstall. Then you can download your own licensed copy of Mavericks and any apps you want.
