MacPro Wakes on its own by the Kernal an hour & 40 mins after put to sleep

Here's my console read out. I dont understand why the Kernal wakes my MacPro an hour and 40 mins after I put it to sleep and run all kinds of stuff. Geek Tools is just set to show the day and time. I have turned off wake from network activity. I also turn off my mouse as the mac is getting ready to go to sleep. I have a Wacom Tablet connect to my Apple Cinema Display but I cant imagine this being the reason for it to wake.
Thoughts?

  • My 2007 Intel iMac is waking from sleep on its own during the early morning hours. Not sure why. Is there a way to find out by looking at some sort of log files or something else?

I'm wondering if someone else is having control of my iMac as it randomly wakes up from sleep while I am sleeping sometime during the night. I've woken up with the light from the monitor brightening my room. Need to find out what is causing it to wake up and stay on. Any suggestions?

I've had this same issue lately. Here's one thing to check: System Preferences > Energy Saver > Wake for Network Access should be unchecked.
Mine is unchecked, so the only other thing I can think of is that it might be Time Machine backing up. My iMac is backing up to an external hard drive, and also sharing that drive over the network so two other Macs can back up as well.
Should be an easy theory to test. Turn off AirPort, unplug Ethernet, and let the iMac sit. See if it still happens.

When my mac finally turns on the date/time is reset a windows pops up saying, "Your computer's clock is set to a date before January 1, 2008. This may cause some applications to behave erractically."

  • How get the RVS4000's DHCP server to assign another IP address other than its own as the default gateway to its DHCP clients?

    Hi,
I have a RVS4000 router with DHCP enabled and in router mode.
The LAN is 192.168.2.x.  The RVS4000 static IP address is 192.168.2.8
The router is not the RVS4000 and is at 192.168.2.1
The RVS4000 dhcp is assigning it's clients a default gateway of 192.168.2.8 instead of what I want 192.168.2.1.
How can I get the RVS4000's DHCP server to assign another IP address other than its own as the default gateway to its DHCP clients?
    Thanks

Hi Gail, you cannot do this. The router, as the DHCP server will only assign a default gateway of what IP interface the DHCP server runs on. If you have the default IP, the gateway is 192.168.1.1. If you create a second vlan, by default it would be 192.168.2.1.
There are not configuration options for the built-in DHCP server. If you'd like to expand this functionality, you would need an external dhcp server.

Try a restore. If that does not work, you probably have a hardware issue.

What user troubleshooting have you tried? The user troubleshooting steps are restart, reset, restore from backup and restore as new. Usually a reset will fix most of the unusual actions by the device.

  • Hey ppl,my macbook is not booting and by that i mean u can hear the audio wave when its starting up,the screen goes white and then after a while there's a folder with a question mark in the middle of the screen...anyone,any ideea?!?

Hey ppl,my macbook is not booting and by that i mean u can hear the audio wave when its starting up,the screen goes white and then after a while there's a folder with a question mark in the middle of the screen...anyone,any ideea?!?Regards.

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the hard drive data is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the optical drive.
Once it has finished booting and you are at the Install screen launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then select the First Aid Tab run Repair Disk and if that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • MBP immediately wakes up after putting to sleep. Still broken in 10.5.3

Since Leopard, my Macbook Pro sometimes just wakes up, immediately after putting to sleep. Even in clamshell mode and no external devices attached. Just half an hour ago it completely refused to stay asleep. I closed the lid and it slept for just a second. The Apple-logo lighted up and went dark again, until it slept for a second and woke up again. It did that 10 to 20 times until I decided to stop this madness.
I filed this very detailed as a bug. It's not hardware, because it doesn't do this under Tiger. I reinstalled Leopard absolutely clean for around 5 times since october. Last time, I did not install 3rd party software for a few hours to see if this is caused by a flawed app. It's not. It happend with just Leopard installed.
This is so annoying and sad. Six years ago I was shocked to see how unbelievably bad sleep in Windows was compared to the same function in OS X. But now it's so embarrasing, sad and super annoying to have an even worse sleep in Leopard.
I'm super frustrated right now and feel like giving Vista a try. Eight months and three mayor Leopard-updates later, they still didn't fix sleep on the Macbook Pro?
I did everything to help them isolate the problem, send in my system-profile, performed terminal-commands they gave me, but never heard of them again.
Maybe someone here nows what the output of ioreg -l | grep Reason means:
    | | "Wake Reason" = <0000000000000000>
    | | | "Last Sleep Reason" = "Software Sleep"
What the heck does this Wake reason mean? Every normal Wake Reason has a different number in it. I tested that. But what means this line of zeros?
Please, somebody tell me I'm not alone with that. I just feel like throwing my once loved Macbook Pro out of the window after 8 months of frustration and three bugfixes without a solution.

If there is no 10.5.3 problem with most MacBook Pro owners, then there is obviously something different about your hardware. It may be a particular combination of components, or it could be a component that is +just slightly+ off specs. It is possible that Apple may be able to fix your problem with software or firmware, but there IS something different with your hardware compared to most MacBook Pro's out there (based on what you have already done to trouble-shoot).
But it doesn't really matter. IF your MacBook is still under warranty or under AppleCare, Apple is obligated to make it work properly. Not sleeping is a significant deficiency, and it is a readily reproducible problem. Apple can (1) figure out and fix the issue through software, (2) find the hardware issue that is causing the problem and fix it, or (3) replace your MacBook Pro with one that does not have this problem.
So if you still have time on your warranty, I would be proactive and insist that Apple fix the problem. The reason for the issue is not important. Waiting for an OS fix is not the best course of action, in my opinion. It may not even be a software problem...

  • IMac wakes on its own after putting it to sleep

Just got my iMac back from the shop with a new hard drive put in. After setting it up, it seems to wake from sleep on its own after a few minutes. Only change since before sending it in to be fixed (when i had no issues with sleep) is that I now have it set up to access the internet thru a wireless router. Could that cause the waking up? should i try turning Airport off before sleeping to see if that works?
    Thanks

I'm kind of out of ideas, for now.
Have you tried to repair permissions/disk? I'm not exactly sure how your system is set up, but your wireless internet shouldn't be to blame [in theory]. When you put your iMac to sleep, it should be turning off the AirPort card [along with various other components]. It would be a possibility that if you had your mac hooked in by ethernet and you had something like "Wake on ethernet ring" checked in System Prefs. [that your mac could randomly wake up].
I almost wonder if it's a firmware problem. Or maybe a problem with a Mac OS X update, I'm also contemplating that it could help to download a combined updater and try to install.
    Hmmmm....
I'll think on it. I know there's some idea that I'm missing here which could help, but I just can't get it to come to mind.

  • IPhone 4 shuts down on its own all the time. Sometimes restarts without ability to make calls, receive emails, and the wrong time.  Only a restore fixes it.  What can I try?

So my iPhone had a broken screen and back for a while, which may have something to do with this.  I mean like missing peices.  I realize this leads to corrosion and I may have a broken iPhone but this is a really strange problem.  It's always shutting off on its own, sometimes in my pocket while locked and sometimes randomly while in use.   For example the other day this started happening everytime I started safari.  This happens all the time, I usually just restart it and it works for a while.   Sometimes after shutting off a few times in a row, after restarting it will show the wrong time, screws up phone calls and says that it cannot locate the gmail server, or something to that extent (won't load emails).   The phone calls are weird, I can't receive any.   Any calls that are made from the phone, go through on the other side and ring for them, but won't ring or make a connection on my side, also I can't end the call when this happens, it responds to me pressing end by fading the screen to that graytone color that it does before ending usually but stays on that screen whenever you go back to it, only disappearing after reseting.  Texts work, not in iMessage, and internet seems to work.   The only thing that fixes this condition is a restore. The iphone has been turning itself off over the last 3 months and its been getting progressively worse.  Recently its been pretty bad, and then the phone started to do all that weird stuff I've been talking about.  That started about 3 weeks ago and has happened 4 times, the last two times relatively close together.   This is really annoying and I can't afford to replace it.   Do I have to live with it?   What can I try?  Should I maybe replace the battery?  I took the panel off to look at it and the plastic around it was pitted possibly from being really hot.

Please don't respond with useless comments.  I've already addressed the fact that my screen was broken a few months ago.  My phone may or may not be broken beyond repair either way, as I said before I can't afford a new phone.  It's a strange problem because from what I can tell no one else has posted the same problem anywhere I can find.  Don't be a dickhole.

  • Restarting on its own -all the time!

My iMac G5 is behaving very oddly. About two weeks ago it began restarting on its own whenever I left it for more than an hour or two. It rarely restarted because it would hang up on closing an application that had something to save, like a word doc or a Firefox with multiple tabs. Always there is a timed-out error on logout operations. I can not think of any certain piece of software I recently installed at the time, no idea why its happening.
-My energy saver does not have a scheduled shut down and restart pref, neither is it in my Cocktail settings.
-I created a second admin user, restarted and logged in as it, and it still happened.
-I did an archive and install and it still happens
    Welcome to any ideas.

Let's say your Mac shut down yesterday afternoon about 3.
Go into the console logs and take your time to just read it,
and see what happens a few lines before "Shutdown."
If you just hunker in there are read, you'll begin to see normal patterns
and abnormal events prior to the accidental restarts.
You could paste the information here, but first try to get
a better feel for the reports.

  • The mouse moves on its own and the screen freezes and zooms in and out.

About 2 months ago I bought a new macbook pro and over the last couple of days it has produced all these problems!
The screen jolts and freezes and only has gradual movement and zooms in and out on a page and the mouse also freezes and moves on its own.  This usually happens when I am on the internet.
Its happened twice now where it works perfectly fine and then all of a sudden it happens.
Has anyone else had this before? Is it a virus?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!

No, I have not tried any backup tools. I havent restored my ipod back to factory settings yet and then sync everything back on it. I am kind of scared too because I dont want to lose anything. I have just been hoping some new apple software update will come out because I know several people have had problems when updating to the newest version available.

  • Weird! MacPro boots on its own after I shut it off

Ok, this really creeps me out.
After I shut off my MacPro (NOT put it to sleep) it will restart after some time. How is this even possible?
I'm running 10.5.1 but I'm not sure if it's got anything to do with Leopard. Never really turned it off before so did't pay any attention.
My solution right now is to pull the power plug but that can't really be it, can it?
Anyone else experienced this, can anyone offer an explanation or a solution?
    Any help will be appreciated....

I had similar issues with restarting/rebooting into windows, etc. and still haven't figured it out. It seems that my house is prone to power surges, and that this may be causing some of the issues. Make sure you have your computer on a surge protector.
Just out of curiosity, are the warning LED lights on your RAM riser cards on? (You should be able to see the glow of the red lights through the front of the Mac Pro).
