Magic Mouse - Mouse Pad?

I like the Magic Mouse that came with my 27" iMac quad-core i5, except the feel of it scrapping on my wood desk top, which causes me to cringe (like fingernails on a chalk board). For those with a similar reaction, I'm curious what you use for a "mouse pad."

I always use a mouse pad..... for exactly the same reason as you. I hate the feeling of it scrapping along the desktop. My wife is a nurse and she always gets a bunch of junk from drug companies with their logos. She brought home one of those mouse pads with the palm/wrist pad built into the bottom of the pad. I loved that thing and I figured I would get one without Vi*gra or whatever on it (for whatever reason it made my wrist stiff...... thanks folks I'll be here all week.....don't forget to tip the waitresses) and purchased one sans logo.
But I digress. Any pad will work. I just like having the wrist pad.

  • Recommendations for good mouse pad for new Magic Mouse?

Hi, I have several mouse pads with a microfiber, but my new Magic Mouse doesn't operate smoothly on them. Sometimes it hangs up, or is slower to move than at other times. I tried an expensive one made of coated glass, but the noise of the Magic Mouse (with its two long strips) rubbing on the coated surface was too much, so I returned it. Any recommendations? Thanks! Duncan

I have one of these. Works great, looks cool next to the keyboard!

  • Magic Mouse on Mouse Pad not working

Love the new Magic Mouse, except that it does not seem to track properly on a mouse pad.
I don't care for how it feels on the wood surface of my desk (though it does work properly there).
So I got just a plain old mouse pad, and for some reason it tracks poorly or not at all.
    Any thoughts?
    thanks

Ian , I use a dark grey pad and don't have a problem with tracking, albeit I've extend the mouse's capabilities with the excellent and free Better Touch Tool. Perhaps it will help you.

  • Best mouse  pad for magic mouse ?

I used a thick sponge-ish non slip mouse pad with a cloth-like covering for my MS mouse on my pc. Now with the imac and magic mouse, this pad seems not quite right. The tracking is a little strange acting. Would a more plastic coated mouse pad surface be better with the magic mouse? Or suggestions?

i use wowpad for all the mice i use, i works great with all of them. there are no issues with mouse jumping and save battery life too.

  • Magic Mouse and Track Pad won't scroll after after waking

I installed Lion and a TrackPad on my 27" iMac at the same time. When I wake my Mac up after sleeping for a period of time, the scrolling does not work on either the TrackPad or the Magic Mouse. The pointer works fine on both, however. I have to restart in order for things to work again as they should.
Apple Care has so far been unable to help. Has anybody else experienced this? I'm ready to return the track pad and/or uninstall Lion. This is turning into a Windows experience. Not typical for Apple.

Agreed. My bluetooth keyboard works fine with iMac and Lion. Not so for my magic mouse. It will work for a while and then clicking and scrolling become unresponsive. Sometimes a complete shutdown and start up will solve the problem for a little while (not always), but then mouse becomes unresponsive again.
Speaking of unresponsive, that is Apple on this subject. Many, many complaints, but no action.
I'm using a 2010 iMac, all updates are installed. Batteries are charged. Reset PRAM. Checked settings in System Preferences. Did everything others have suggested. No help.
The magic mouse was fine with Leopard. It was even fine with Lion, until the Lion update and then the problems began.
I'm back to using my USB mouse. I'll see if Apple Store will accept return of magic mouse. Doubt it.

  • Is there a large, clear desk pad suitable for use with the Magic Mouse?

My well-loved Magic Mouse will not track on my clear, 36" X 24" desk pad and, thus, I'm looking to replace it with  a clear desk pad at least as large, but suitable for use with the Magic Mouse.  Currently, I'm using an extra-large Wowpad for my mouse.  Would a clear, matte desk pad work as well as the Wowpad with my Magic Mouse, or must I continue to use the Wowpad and seperate desk pad?  All suggestions grartefully accepted!

  • Can I use Lion without magic mouse or pad

I am interested in updating to Lion on a mac mini at work but it doesn't have a magic mouse or pad. Will I be able to use the sliding features with a regular mouse?

    Sorry, but no.
For the Multi-Touch Gestures you have to have/use a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad or a Mac Notebook with Multi-Touch Trackpad.

Nonetheless, a standard mouse can be used with OSX Lion but without Gestures then.

  • Magic Mouse & Trac Pad Not Working Properly

  • Apple Track Pad vs. Magic Mouse?

I have been using a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 keyboard ever since getting my Intel iMac 24 back in late 2006.  When I got it, I also continued to use my MS Wireless Lazer 5000 mouse as well.  In mid year 2010 I got a macbook and also a Magic Mouse which I use exclusively with the laptop over using the on-board track pad.
Recently, I have a need to replace the lazer mouse due to mechanical problems and am wondering what sort of feedback has been coming in regarding the newer Wireless Track Pad and whether or not users still have use for the magic mouse and/or the track pad and vice versa.  I'd buy another magic mouse for the iMac as the one I currently own is set up to be used on the road in my vehicle with the laptop.  In replacing my lazer mouse I just would like to know the feedback regarding the newer track pad.  Thank you in advance!

Thanks to everyone for their responses.
Unfortunately, my laser mouse died, and I replaced it with the TrackPad hoping to upgrade without the need for another mouse.  Although I like most features of the trackpad, like for my MacBook, I find the need for a mouse to add to the onboard track pad.
Same thing applies for the iMac, the trackpad works for most applications, but I got a wireless mouse again.  So I find that I use both.
Thanks again to everyone who responded!

  • Will the magic mouse track pad functions work with OSX 10.8.5?

Will the Magic Mouse track pad functions, i.e. scroll, zoom work with OSX 10.8.5.? Or do I have to upgrade to get those functions to work?

    Yes, they'll work with 10.8.5.

  • MBP, Magic Mouse, and desk pads

I have a large steel desk at work, and aside from being a big uncomfortable, it's also tough to use a Magic Mouse on: lots of scraping sounds and even a scratch or two on the desk now and then. I was going to pick up a simple, small mouse pad, until I realized I could also use something to keep the bottom of my MacBook Pro from being scratched too.
I've found a few products, such as the XTRAC PADS Ripper XXL Mouse Pad:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826991001
I wonder whether any other Magic Mouse users are familiar with larger pads like this and can relay their experience?

So, the Ripper XXL pad is huge, and pretty much what you'd expect: a big ol' mouse pad. It does the job, though I wish the surface were quieter and actually a bit less mouse-pad-like, in that it's a bit fuzzy (like a mouse pad) and the Magic Mouse does make some scraping noise as it glides across. So there's probably something better out there; I just don't know what that something is. Meanwhile, the Ripper XXL pad is fine.

  • Magic track pad vs. magic mouse?

So which do you prefer when working on a mac pro? A magic track pad or the magic mouse?
Anyone have any experience working with both?
I have not yet tried either on my mac pro (still using mighty mouse - the worse mouse ever invented!!) but when working on my mac book pro's track pad I got to say, I am considering going the magic track pad route?
Anyone have any input to offer?

Hi I have both also. I started with the mouse and then bought the trackpad to use with my MacPro. I like both but have found the following over the last few weeks. Since I really love the trackpad on my macbook pro I did not hesitate to buy a track pad when they became available. And let me add that the track pad is great. But it is not a natural for me to use the track pad with my Macpro as it is with the laptop. I am not sure why but it has something to do with the fact I do different things with the desk top (I think).
OK Scrolling is absolutely better with the trackpad, as are gestures and the trackpad is great when working in Aperture or iphoto not so much for me with photoshop. But when I am doing my daily grind, word processing, some web surfing, dealing with software that requires a lot of keyboarding, the track pad becomes a problem and I eventually have to go to the mouse. Like some one else said here it has to think (although for a very short time) this causes me to sometime get ahead of myself and then go back and make corrections. Also for me cut and paste is not as intuitive with the trackpad.
All that said I do not regret buying the trackpad and i will continue to use it based on what i am doing at the time, but I will not let my magic mouse go anytime soon.
