Mail Account NO LONGER stores Passwords for Mail Accounts

Since my last restart my mac mail accounts (.mac, company, etc) no longer STORE passwords for either the send or smtp receive... Anyone experience this before? I'm going to try and toss the mail pref files and even delete my accounts, but since it's happening to ALL of my accounts (5) at the same time I'm concerned that I'll be wasting my time until I fix what's gotten broken...

Since these password are stored in your Keychain, try running Keychain First Aid on your Keychain via Keychain Access.

  • TS3276 I have recently had a problem with one of my hotmail accounts, some sort of virus sending random emails to people in my address book. Hotmail advised me to change my password for that account, which I did. Why won't mail recognise the new password?

I have recently had a problem with one of my hotmail accounts, some sort of virus sending random emails from my address book. Hotmail advised me to delete all contacts and change the password for that account, which I did on my laptop running windows XP. The change was successful and I was able to send and receive emails with no problem. I then had to change the account password on my iPhone 4s, which I did and it too was successful but when I came to change the password on my iMac, running the latest version of Lion it would not recognise the new password. I have tried to remove the account details and re-install but every time I go to add new account my old details are in the box. This is very frustrating as I use my iMac for all my profects and I need to access my email. Please help.

    hi guys,
I had already deleted all reference to the hotmail account in question from the keychain access app, I have also tried to delete and re-instal the account details from within mail. The icon in the side bar dissapears but when I go to Add Account, the old account details are in the new account box. I then input my new password but am told that the server does not recognise it. If I access hotmail via google on the iMac I can get into my account with no problems. I am thinking there must be some other form of security system within the mac software that is blocking the new password. This is driving me nuts. I have been trying to resolve this for the last two days. Thank you for your advise anyway.

  • Rejected password for mail account...

    Hello.
How can I remedy this ongoing issue of the Mail program asking for the password multiple times per week? (quite often, I'll have to enter it 20 times in the course of 5 minutes for it to actually get accepted).
I'm amazed that this hasn't been fixed yet, but until that happens, how can I temporarily remedy it?
This is the prompt that I get:
The POP server “mail.comcast.net” rejected the password for user “alexguitar1”
Please re-enter your password, or cancel.
    thank you.

Check out your Keychain Access (Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access). Two things you can do:
    1. check whether you have two or more keychains for your email account - ideally you should have one per mailbox. Delete any extra ones you don't need (check that the password of the remaining one is correct).
    2. Still in Keychain Access, select the Keychain Access menu and choose "Keychain First Aid". You cna verify and repair any Keychain problems here.

  • My mail is not accepting my password for one of my email accounts. How can I fix this?

Mail is not accepting my password for one of my email accounts. I know the passoword is correct.
It will accept my password for one of my email accounts but not the other.
I have reset the password in the account settings but it still will not work.
    how can I fix?

From the Mail menu bar, select
    Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Click the Show Detail button. A drawer opens. Click Check Again and post the text that appears. Anonymize any personal information before posting.

  • Can you have different passwords for mail account and ICloud?

Can you have different passwords for mail account and ICloud?

Yes - you want to go under Notifications, Mail.   Set each acct the way you want.

  • Checking mail, get "password missing.  Enter the password for the account "iCloud"."

Checking email, get Password Missing.  Enter the password for the account "iCloud."  Have tried changing password, re-entering new password at iCloud setting, still no success. Then I get message The MobileMe server "mail.me.com" is not responding.  Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "Incoming Mail Server" field.  What can be done to correct password issue?

Make sure you have a network connection.  Are you connected to the internet or cellular network

  • My Mac Mail program no longer stores any files in my Sent folder.  When I try to send an e-mail it just spins.  What's up?

My Mac Mail program no longer stores any files in my Sent folder.  Moreover, the sent folder (off to the left) contains a highlighted "1" as if something is in there.
When I try to send an e-mail message, it simply spins.
This is new behavior for my Laptop of three years.  Usually, I have lots of messages in my Sent folder and can easily send e-mail.
I see no discussion forum for "Mail" or for "e-mail" so I raise this question here.
I would appreciate any help anyone might offer.
    Thanks.

Thank you for your reply.  Turns out, re-started my Macbook later and the problem disappeared.  Could this have helped?

My old itunes id was an email that no longer can be used, therefore, I can not change the password for that account.  Everything that I purchased under that id name will not play.  How can I fix this?

I no longer have an email address that was also my Apple ID. Can I still use the email address as my Apple ID?
Apple recommends you change your Apple ID to your current, working email address. This will not create another Apple ID, it will only change it to your working email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
Note: @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs can not be renamed.  If you no longer use the .mac or .me email address be sure to add your valid email address as an additional email address.

  • Recently changed my password for mail, can still read my mail, but the drop down keeps appearing, asking for my password and saying it's incorrect. Totally confused.

I Recently changed the password for mail, on iMac. I can still read my mail, but the drop down keeps appearing, asking for my password, then telling me it's incorrect. Totally confused.

If your password is accepted, and Mail connects to the account, but you're prompted for the password repeatedly, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Note: these steps don't apply if the server rejects the password. That's a different problem.
    Step 1
When prompted for the password, check the box marked Remember this password in my keychain.
    Step 2
Check that the keychain is working.
    Step 3
Check that the default keychain is unlocked.

  • TS3899 Cannot get mail  the user name or password for Suddenlink is incorrect

I have not once had an issue with this. I have not changed my password or anything. I have the iPhone 4. All of a sudden, the message error pops up that says " Cannot get Mail"  The User name or Password for Suddenlink is incorrect. Please help!!!!!!

All customers should now have the ability to send and receive email through Suddenlink’s email service, and the vast majority should have full service, including access to all mail, folders, contacts, and settings. We will continue working until the remainder of customers have full email service restored. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we continue to work to restore full email service for all customers.

cant update apps on my mac or iphone4. asks for password for another account i had on a dell notebook. either i forgot the pass word or its not taking it  . i can download apps and music.  how can i update apps on my mac and iphone 4?

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

  • "Password Missing" Enter the password for the account "iCloud"

After upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 6.0 and setting up as a 'new phone'...I've had this recurring problem with my iCloud mail.  Despite entering my iCloud password successfully in settings as well as my Apple ID (same email/password), I continue to get prompted three times with this "password missing" message everytime I use the Mail app.  It prompts me every time I'm IN the app, not necessarily launching it from closed.  I have done the following:
verified that the password was entered correctly
checked my iCloud mail at iCloud.com with the same password
verified my apple ID and password at appleID.apple.com
continued to receive mail without incident on my macbook
Synced the phone with iTunes (leaving mail, contacts, and calendars set to iCloud sync)
Not sure what to do next.  I could try wiping the phone again, but suspect I'll have the same problem.  Found a similar posting on this topic last week that said going to the Manage Apple ID site was the solution.  Can't find anyone with a similar problem in Communities.

    Hello Everyone,
I tried the solution offered at this link and it worked for me. It involves going to "Settings/Mail, Contacts,Calendars/iCloud/Account". At this screen, I deleted and re-enered my password for my account which was an @yahoo.com account (The only one I EVER wanted to use). Then I also deleted anything I could that was an @me account. I launched my mail and no more problems. Enjoy!

Hetti Arachchige V Aravinda is correct.
Hackers will use a key generator for guess accounts mailed to you, if you click, your are actually installing a run script,  usually this will run all the time, if there is an connection, the guest account will tell you the connection and where.
This is most famous with IIS ftp service for guest accounts. This was a major flaw with IIS ftp service in previous OS the ftp world get confused with the amount of failed attempts and grant admin abilities to your ftp.
Your event for guest account would show may attempts, this is a very common old way that spammers  used to connect to a device to spread spam.
Wireshark is a sure way to trace packets in and out of your ISP. You can  now see what is coming. if you do this, do not let pcap run on start up. I am positive you have nothing to worry about. If you do trace your IP and you see lots of proxys coming
in, I suggest you contact your ISP about this.
