Mail: endless beachball when attching graphics
For no reason I can discern, Mail has decided to go into spin-foreverland when (a) attaching graphics using the dialog box or (b) dropping the graphic into the message body.
A force-quit will close mail end end the silliness. What's the fix?

Make sure the Mail app is not open.
Try deleting the Mail Preference file: com.apple.mail.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that .plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Launch Mail and try to attach a file. If it functions properly, drag that .plist file to the Trash and empty the Trash. Your Mac will create a new .plist file for you the next time you launch Mail.

Do I need to reinstall Mail? How is this done?
A day or two ago I posted that Mail goes on an endless beachball vacation when I attempt to attach graphics or drag-drop them.
Now, it won't Forward (same problem) or allow selecting some message text and replying with only that quoted.
Same symptoms, same solution (force quit). No obvious reason why it should suddenly be doing this.Disk Ute from the boot HD fixed permissions, but also said the disk needed repair. I ran Disk Ute from the CD and Mail began behaving itself again.
Weirdly, the first time I tried attaching a graphic after the repair, I got the "beachball hang". When I went to Force Quit, after a furious round of cussing, suddenly the attachemtn appeared in the body of the message as desired after selecting Mail to force quit, and Mail didn't actually quit. A second attachment went right in place. -
Mail.app crashes when trying to sync with .mac
Mail.app crashes when I try to sync my mail accounts with .mac. It currently works fine on my older PowerPC PowerBook G4, but on my new MacBook Pro it crashes every time.
Any others experience this?

The HTTPMail plug-in you have installed could have a bearing on this. Have you set up the same mail accounts on both computers? Is the right version of the plug-in installed on each of them?
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:

After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
1. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
2. Quit Mail if it’s running.
3. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this solves the problem).
5. Open Mail. You’ll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
6. You’ll have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
7. You may also need to re-install or re-enable any Mail plug-ins you have installed for Mail to recognize them.
8. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail might rename Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn’t be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
9. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there. -
Mail slow/hangs when adding attachment
Recently Mail hangs or takes a long time, showing the spinning beachball, when adding an attachment. For instance it took over two minutes to add a 44k Word document - previously it would be seconds.
This happens with all user accounts on this Mac.
I've not added any software recenttly that may have caused this.
Any suggestions?

BruceGo to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations (Parallels in particular, if you have that installed) and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.

Not sure what you mean. Are you saying that you haven’t installed any software recently, or that you have installed something but you know for sure it cannot have a bearing on this? If the latter, how do you know? -
Since installing lion on my 24" 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo iMac, i've been getting the beachball when trying to scroll up or down in most applications. It's happening in Safari, Firefox and iPhoto and maybe others.
The wierd thing is it seems to have only frozen the graphics. If I scroll down, get the beachball ( with no movement on the page ) and then if I do a two finger swipe to another space and back, the beachball has gone and the browser has scrolled to where I would have expected it to.
This also happen alot with screen sharing (scrolling or not), again, a two finger swipe to and from the space will momentarily clear the problem and restore normal function.
Things I've tried:
Changing the RAM modules (problem persists)
Booting from a Snow leopard disk (problem gone)
reinstalling Lion (problem persists)
uninstalling Flash (problem persists)
uninstalling perian and other video codecs (problem persists)
chaning screen saver (problem persists)No, because the problem occurs even opening a non-form page.
I'm thinking that it might be a bigger problem with my entire system.
My 500mhz ibook, 640 MB RAM with the same system does not have this problem - Safari is fairly quick.
I'm wondering is something is eating my processing speed. -
I can record voice memos fine using the built-in iPhone 4 mic. And my Bluetooth headset (Jawbone Era) works fine when I leave messages on voice mail systems etc. when calling on the iPhone 4, so it appears my headset mic is fine. I can also use voice activated dialing, although it fails miserably interpreting numbers. However, I cannot record voice memos with my Bluetooth mic. I just get barely audible static. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Hello, did you ever get an answer to your question? I just picked up a Jawbone Era and using on an iPhone 4s running 5.0.1. Seems to work fine on regular calls, but not on the built in Voice memos application. It worked fine on my older Jawbone Icon, but haven't tested on the 4s or iOS 5.

He has invoices in folders for both, and wants to set up the Mac like this:
When he writes from one email address and attaches documents - he want the Mac always to go to the corresponding folder for that company of his. Same for the other email address...

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

I like Mail.
But - the ONE feature I miss from Entourage is this:
Delete mail from server when deleting the trash
Mail can be set to delete messages from the server -- after downloading to the local computer. OK - BUT - I read my email from 3 computers. I want to keep the messages on the server - unless I delete them after trashing - and to read them on 3 computers.
The BEST way is to delete when I trash them -- NOT when I read them.
Using the mail program to see all messages on the server and to then delete them one-by-one is a major PITA.
How can I tell Apple to add this feature?

How do I receive an e-mail or notification when someone accepted my invitation in iCal?
Hi people,
I have had this problem for a while now and I can't seem to find a solution.
When I invite people to an event in iCal, the invitation is e-mailed without a problem to the invited people. If they accept, I can watch this on both my iPhone and in iCal. Nevertheless I never receive any e-mail or notification when someone accepts.
Is it possible to receive an e-mail or quick notification on my iPhone about that?

In Acrobat Pro, open the form and go to the Advanced menu and choose enable usage rights for Reader users.
Now, they will be able to fill out the form and save it to send it back to you in an email.
Be aware that there is a 500 use per form limit so this isn't a good answer for high volume use forms. -
I upgraded my 4s to 7.0.4 and now I can't acicess hotmail through my main mail app. When I open it a pop up says password incorrect even after I put my password in it pops up again. How do I fix this please help

I am currently living in Europe and using my iPhone on airplane mode when I have wifi. My iMessage is switched to my icloud e-mail address and when I go to my setting to switch it back to my number, it is grayed out and not an option to click. This was working before with my number so I know that it's not from being on airplane mode. How do I get it back to my number?
They need to go into their settings>messages and make sure iMessage is on. Also they should click on the send & receive button to make sure their phone number is selected.

In my email app, I clicked to open one of my mail folders. When it opened, it immediately deleted all of the emails inside that folder. This happened with all the others too. How can I stop this and is it possible to get that mail back.
Did you try to open teh fle by double-clicking its icon? If the file was made with an older version of Office, you may get that message. Try opeing PP and, from its "File" menu, see if you can open the ppt. I've foundthat often gets around that message and then yo ucan save the file from the newer version.

Why does my "Doteasy" e-mail format change when sent using Mozilla?
Up until recently I have been using Internet Explorer as a browser both at work and at home. I recently switched to Mozilla Firefox only at home and have been happy overall.
When I access my work e-mail account from home ("Doteasy.com") I am unable to control the font size, type and my signature when sending e-mails. Usually the resulting e-mail when sent ends up combined in a long paragraph that is hard to read and really unprofessional looking.
I did try to follow how to set up Mozilla with an e-mail program but when I select the "Tools" menu the "Account Settings" does not appear in the menu and I have been unable to find it. I have the latest version of Mozilla too (as of 11/14/2011).
My life will be so much easier if I can work from home once in awhile.

Thank you.My computer does this too. It also has made my Sent Button disappear and refers me to a "send later" solution. which is do not get or have. Shake the tree, maybe a nut will fall. Crack the nut and there you will find the Chinese answer!

How big is your hard drive, and how full is it?
Did you happen to download any system cache cleaners? Those can damage its ability to function.
Have you tried repairing permissions?
Is your data backed up?
Is Spotlight indexed?
Is the Mail trying to load an IMAP, POP or Exchange account?
