Mail Flow Central - Slowness and database issues

Hello,
My MFC database is about 220 gig, keeping 45 days of data. It is running on a large system (Quad XEON Processor HP ML 570, with 6 Spindals for the data drive) and it still gets so busy it shuts down MySql.
Support keeps telling me to index the tables, but they are indexed, and I keep getting errors.
Is anyone else having issues?
Anybody with a database this size or larger?
Thanks,
Mike

From our experience the performance issues with MFC are around the purge process.
Our ugly work around was to set the purge date to 3 months our and to start over with a clean database every 2 months or so. Effective the purge never happens, we wipe and recreate. Like I said it is an ugly kludge. Eight weeks of data ends up being about a 512GB size database in our environment.
Long-term I think MFC has to go to a rolling partitioned table solution, based on date. So then the purge process can be done more efficiently at the partition level.

  • Running Mail Flow Central without direct connection?

Do we have a possibility to run Mail Flow Central (Version 1.4.0 (103)) without direct connection to the devices?
I mean: We have a local copy of (all) the logfiles, but we cannot connect directly from our local installation of MFC to the devices.
How can we "import" this logfiles on our local installation of MFC?

    Thank you.
    I found the directory:
MailFlowCentral\Mail Flow Central\mailFC\mgaLogs\incomingI tried the following steps:
    a) I copy some files from the offline-log-directory "mail_logs" looking like [email protected]
    b) I stopped and started the service "Mail Flow Central"
-> No luck: There is currently no data in the Mail Flow Central database.
    c) I renamed the above files to [email protected] and repeated b).
-> No luck: There is currently no data in the Mail Flow Central database.
    d) I moved the above files to the manually created \1\ and repeated b).
-> No luck: There is currently no data in the Mail Flow Central database.
    e) I renamed back the above files to [email protected] still in \1\ and repeated b).
-> No luck: There is currently no data in the Mail Flow Central database.
Could you please have a look what I need else for my installed MFC-version 1.4.0-103?
In the meantime, I have added a "dummy-host" with the IP "localhost" and the logname "mail*".
Seconds after I put some of the above files (with or without the extension .001.r) the files are processed and moved to MailFlowCentral\Mail Flow Central\mailFC\mgaLogs\archive\1
Unfortunately, the results remain the same: There is currently no data in the Mail Flow Central database.
But in the host-section I found this error:Mon, 21 Apr 2008 18:10:54 +0100 Failed Unsuccessful import. Error while importing file. Import failed, an error occurred with the downloaded log file: '[Errno 13] Permission denied: '.\\mgaLogs\\incoming\\1\\[email protected]''
What kind of permission should I set (I'm trying it actually on my WinXP without any permission set on this MFC-Directories..)

  • Cisco IronPort Mail Flow Central

    Hello,
We are currently in the process of trying to migrate Mail Flow Central from a windows server 2003 VM to a windows server 2008 VM.  I have a few questions regarding this migration.  Is their any sort of guide that I can follow?  Also, what is the latest software download link for MFC?  I already have the database installed (for previous version), but in the install it wants me to reinstall it again?  If you can provide help files to ease this migration that would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex

Stephan is correct - MFC support ended Jul 2011.  There may be an external customer that is willing to answer and provide any pointers for your migration.  We, as Cisco, do not have any guides or best practices available for MFC.  It would be all customer side work and migration supportability only.

  • AsyncOS with mail flow central

    Hi gUrus,
What version of Asyncos that has a mail flow central.
    any idea?
    regards,
    capt winters

With version 6 you can do on-box tracking and reporting. You can also use a M-machine to do centralized tracking and reporting. With other versions (4/5) you can allready use the windows mail flow central.
    Peter.

  • Mail Flow Central questions

I was wondering if anyone can give me the official stance on if MFC is still supported or not. An IronPort engineer that I've been working with tells me that it's not supported anymore, but I just went through IronPort training for the C-series and the instructor tells me that it is supported through next year or so. When I check the knowledge base I see references to check the product page for information about MFC, but nothing is listed. I can't seem to find any documentation or software downloads.

Here is info from the Support Portal.
Click on "Announcements & Policies" on the left panel, then "IronPort Systems Product Discontinuance Policy" at the top of the page.
At the bottom, it mentions this:
    +++
    Software Support
IronPort AsyncOS and Mail Flow Central software releases are supported for up to eighteen (18) months from the First Customer Shipment Date (FCS), or two (2) subsequent major releases of such software, whichever occurs first. At such time, the software reaches EOL. Major releases of the software are designated as an increment in the first number in a release designation (i.e. 4.y.z to 5.y.z).
At EOL, Engineering, Customer Support and the IronPort Threat Operations Center no longer provide support for the software release. Thus, update releases (e.g. service, maintenance, and patches) are no longer created for the software release and "signatures," "rules," or similar data services may not be compatible with discontinued versions of the software. To receive software support and updates, customers are required to upgrade to a supported version of the software.
    +++
Then, if you click on "IronPort AsyncOS for Email" at the very bottom. It mentions this at the very bottom:
    Mail Flow Central December 17, 2004 July 31, 2011

  • Upgrade Mail Flow Central V1.3 to V1.4

How do I upgrade mail flow central v1.3 to v1.4?

MFC 1.4 is only useful for customers who are experiencing capacity issues with 1.3.
There are no new features or reports. MFC 1.4 takes advantage of some changes to the underlying MFC infrastructure components to scale to a greater number of messages per day. If you are not having capacity issues, upgrading to MFC 1.4 provides no value.

  • New iPhoto 9.5 (902.7) much slower and import issues

I have a 2007 iMac and ever since I uploaded to Mavericks/iPhoto there's been issues.
While it seems that a number of people have  noticed 'slowness' and I like other people had lots of crashing with items like Garageband (Fixed with 10.0.1 update), I conteinue to have problems with iPhoto and subsequently iTunes.
When I attach my iPhone to the USB cable, it properly starts iPhoto and the iPhone shows up as a device, but then it just sits there with the Beach Ball trying to load the pictures.
I've deleted everything on the iPhone and tried again but I continually have problems.
I hooked up my iPad 2 to the same way and it only had one picture on it but it took forever to show up but it did successfully load however, I tried again with some screenshots that I took and it hung as well.
This seems to be connected to iTunes sync as well as even when I have no photos on my iPhone so it doesn't trigger iPhoto loading, the photo sync either takes forever or quite often, just hangs iTunes and stops responding.
iphoto once complained about library problems so I tried all the steps except to completely recreate the database.  Still same issues (slow and hanging imports)
This also is happening on my Olympus OM-D EM-1 camera and SD Card reader that I attach so it seems more of a general issue than specific to my iPhone, etc.
Any suggestions?  Recreate the entire iPhoto Database?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Connect the iPad or iPhone and try to import some photos  to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

  • Transaction executing slow and database undo log increasing soon.

    Dears,
I developed a transaction which query database many times in a repeater loop and finally generate a SAP MII XML Output Document which I want to display in a html hyper link in MII Navigation.  (Using XacuteQuery and iGrid)
    I found that
    1. if I execute in SAP MII Workbench, the transaction executing very slow, and also the database undo log in D:\oracle\TMI\sapdata2\undo_1\UNDO.DATA1 increasing soon.
    2. If I use MII Schedule Edit to run the transaction, it executing fast.
    Does any one know why?
Is there any setting can make it executing fast in a MII Workbench?
    Many thanks!
    Ivan

    Hi,
Can you explain why it's different by using MII Workbench and Scheduler depending on sql  joining and logic?
My transaction logical is basically as below,
    1. query qualified sfc in SAPME tables
    SELECT *
      FROM (SELECT   s.site, s.sfc, ss.operation_bo, ss.qty_in_queue,
                     ss.qty_in_work, s.priority, s.item_bo, s.shop_order_bo,
                     s.status_bo, ss.sfc_router_bo, ss.step_id, ss.step_sequence,
                     st.status_description, cf.ATTRIBUTE, cf.VALUE
                FROM sfc_step ss,
                     sfc s,
                     sfc_router sr,
                     sfc_routing srt,
                     status st,
                     custom_fields cf
               WHERE sr.handle = ss.sfc_router_bo
                 AND srt.handle = sr.sfc_routing_bo
                 AND s.handle = srt.sfc_bo
                 AND st.handle = s.status_bo
                 AND SUBSTR (s.status_bo, -3) IN ('402', '403', '404')
                 AND sr.handle = ss.sfc_router_bo
                 AND sr.in_use = 'true'
                 AND ((ss.qty_in_queue > 0) OR (ss.qty_in_work > 0))
                 AND s.site = '[Param.1]'
                 AND cf.handle(+) = s.handle
                 AND cf.ATTRIBUTE(+) = 'QTIMECONTROL'
                 [Param.2]
            ORDER BY s.priority DESC, s.sfc)
WHERE (ATTRIBUTE = 'QTIMECONTROL' AND VALUE != 'N') OR VALUE IS NULL
    2. use Repeater to query sfc's activity_log table
    SELECT   al.site, al.sfc, al.operation, al.operation_revision, op.description,
             al.step_id,
                TO_CHAR (NEW_TIME (date_time, 'PST', 'GMT'),

        FROM activity_log al,
             custom_fields cf,
             sfc s,
             sfc_routing srg,

                || al.operation_revision
         AND cf.ATTRIBUTE(+) = 'QTIME'

    3. call another transaction to parse  input data and get output data
    4. parse get back data to form a MII xml output Document.
    Thanks!

  • Mail is getting slower and slower...!

We are running an OS X 10.4 Server on a Mac Mini 1,7 GHz Intel Core Duo. We are running from a raided external drive with 2 mirrored 250 GB drives connected via Firewire.
After a couple of weeks we notice that getting mail is slower and slower. After another week it's too slow to use. Then we restart and it works ok again.
I first noticed this about a year ago, but it feels that it has been worse since then.
We have about 80 accounts on the server, with the heaviest load from spam of course.
Nothing else on the server seems slow.
Any idea where to start...? :-/

I am now experiencing a slowdown when getting mail from the server.

Nothing strange what I can see. I'll look at it in a couple of days and maybe we'll see a difference.

  • Running slow and glitch issues.

I have a late '08 MBP. A couple months ago I started having problems with my Mac running slow, and acting "glitchy." Since then I have maxed out my RAM and have over 60GB of free space on my hard-drive. I am still experiencing the same problems. What do I do? I think that I may have a virus, despite the common believe that Macs are not vulnerable to viruses. Someone help!

  • G5 dual 2.7- 'slowness' and airport issues

Hi, I have a dual 2.7Ghz PowerMac G5, with 4GB of RAM, 2 500GB internal SATA drives, and 2 external FW800 drives (one 300GB, one 500). I use the system mainly for Photoshop work, and a bit of flash web design.
The system's been quirky as of late, and while it's not unusable, it is slightly annoying. Firstly, when the machine's been on for a while, I find it slows down significantly. Restarting it often takes some time, especially for the desktop to reappear. If I turn it off, leave it for a few hours, and turn it back on it usually runs fine.
Also, I have Temperature Monitor Lite running, and I've noticed that while doing some more processor-intensive tasks in Photoshop (eg. lens correction filter), the system slows down greatly while the temperature rises upward of 90ºC on processor A. It seems to be that it only used to get into the low 80's. As I'm typing this, it's a more normal 64.4ºC.
I've run the Apple Hardware Test CD and it says that there are no problems. I found that resetting nvram used to help with some of the slowness, but it seems to do relatively little now. Initially I thought it was lack of RAM, so I upgraded from 2GB to 4, which didn't help. I changed the HD out from the original 250GB to 500, and that didn't solve it either...
The other issue is my Airport connection. I usually get 1-2 bars, with the connection frequently dropping off completely. I've reinserted the card, and moved the antenna on the back of the computer a bit. Given that my 400Mhz G4 sitting a few feet away gets a full signal, as does my MacBook Pro, I'm not really sure if this is normal.
If anyone can shed some light on these problems, it'd be much appreciated.

When did you last do a full clean reinstall?
Do you ever run Applejack? Onyx? Disk Warrior?
How about a backup, erase, and restore? that also works for me, using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner (just be sure to run Disk Warrior afterwards).
Corrupt files, whether prefs, cache, or system, and definitely don't want problems with the directory, or with bad blocks.
Why boot from CD? setup an emergency boot drive or partition for running Disk Warrior (and maybe TechTool Pro 4.5.x).
For Photoshop you do want a "lean, mean" and clean OS, a dedicated scratch disk, another drive for data or media. And I'd add PCI-X eSATA for RAID. And keep everything not needed by the system on another drive (just OS and applications). Maybe partition your 500GB drive in half, or even use the two drives in boot RAID.
As long as the liquid cooling is working and keeping things cool.... and it doesn't sound like it is. How about upgrading to Hardware Monitor?
Is the ambient air temp mid 70's?
I would setup and install a fresh OS (maybe FW800) and see how a base system runs first.
Install Applejack, read the notes and use it to clean the cache files (I do that before any OS update). Just run FSCK command, then follow instructions on screen for Applejack - all done in single user mode to repair your boot drive.

  • Shared (central) player and skin issues

    All,
Thanks for helping out a n00b with regards to Flash video.
I'm trying to keep one player and skin in a central location
on our site and use them with all videos we publish. However, when
I move them, videos break. The path to the player is being modified
to point to the proper location, but things still break.
Any idea how I can get this to work?
    Many thanks folks!

    Dis, Hi.
If you want to use non-consumable IN APP PURCHASE - you don't need use any saving for restoring on other devices.
Non-consumable it's products, that you can buy once. For unlock for example from LITE to FULL version. Than you can save it as Local Shared Object.
When you will buy it again - APP STORE will not get money again but will return product as Buyed (as new) and you will see it as 'restored'.
App Store don't provide any downloads. It's return only JSON parameters like 'restored', 'purchased' and etc. All rest you do on your device
