Mail has stopped working on my macbook pro but it works on hand held devices

All my other email accounts still work. I can neither send nor receive out of Mail.

1. open up mail go to Window, and open "connection Doctor" and let us know what it says. note also open Activity and you will see the progress.
2. Re-check all your account information under mail, preferences and try the link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1277, to ensure its all entered correctly.
3. is the issue with icloud account or a 3rd party?

  • FaceTime no longer works on my MacBook Pro but still works on my I-Phone

FaceTime used to work fine on both my MacBook Pro and my I-Phone. Lately, it will not work at all on my Ma
cBook, but works fine on my I-Phone. What has to be done to get it working on my MacBook?

The Rh column in FaceTime asks if I want calls to the cell phone or to the e-mail address. I remove the check mark against the cell Number and "go to next"
It then asks for Apple ID and sign in.
The FaceTime on the computer starts by saying that it is signing in and then and then quickly reverts to the first screen as above---asking about the cell or e-mail address---and the process starts all over again.
I never get to proceed past this step.
I am begining to wonder if an upgrade was added and requires some other step.
, or removal of the upgrade.
         Thanks for the help.

  • Facebook has stopped responding on my Macbook Pro

I regularly visit my Facebook account via Safari on my iMac and Macbook Pro.
When using the iMac I can still enter information into Facebook and browse as I wish.  Until yesterday I could also do the same on my Macbook Pro, but now, although I can still open Facebook and read the posts on it, therer is no response if I try to make any inputs.
Help please!  Does anyone have a fix for this issue?

I have the exact same problem.  I started having the problem with MS Office 2008 after I installed a new harddrive in my imac (24-inch, Early 2009), OS X 10.8.4.  Everything was working fine and then when I try to open any Office app, the icon bounces in the dock, and nothing happens.
I as searched for solutions, the obvious fix was to uninstall office (even all of the excess system files it leaves even after an uninstall).  When I a re-install Office 2008, it works for about 1 week and then it stops working again.
Next I thought to try the new version of Office (Office 2011), so I did the trial download, and sure enough got the same problem.  After about 2 weeks, it stopped responding.  I have talked to MS support about this problem, and their suggestion was to uninstall and then reinstall, which I am becoming an expert at.
I am also having an issue with Apple Mail and contacts becoming disconnected.  When created a new mail, typing in the receiptant does not pull up their email address even though it is in my address book.  The fix for this, which I do even other day is to delete a system folder in Library/Containers/com.apple.mail.  I do that, and it works for a few days.
    Any suggestions would be great.

  • Airport Express (steady greenlight) + MacBook Pro but no working airtunes

I do have the following situation:
After my first attempt more than 3/4 of a year ago, I thought it would be nice to try to connect my AE again with my new MBP. Last time I gave up, so I thought give it a new try!
I finally was able to access my AE with Airport Admin Utility.
The goal is to use the AE only to play Itunes through wifi on my stereo, no printing or internet access/sharing needed.
The AE is set with the following configuration:
    AIRPORT-tab:
    Name: Base Station
    Contact: -
    Location: -
    Airport Network:
Wireless Mode: Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)
Wireless Network: Livebox-ff44 (this is my ISP router)
Wireless Security: 128 bit WEP (also tried Not Enabled)
    INTERNET-tab:
    Connect Using: Wireless Network
    Configure TCP/IP
    Configure: Using DHCP
    IP address: 192.168.1.11
    Subnet mask: 25.255.255.0
    Router address: 192.168.1.1
    DNS servers: -
    Domain name: -
    DHCP Client ID: -
    MUSIC-tab:
Enable Airtunes on this base station (ticked)
Enable Airtunes over the Ethernetport (ticked but ghosted)
    Itunes Speaker Name: Base Station
    No Itunes Speaker password set
So once again, the LED light is steady green.
In Itunes the Base Station can be selected, but music is still played of
the laptop speakers and not through the AE. I connected my Ipod headset
directly to the audio jack on the AE (I assume this is possible to check in this way), but no sound.
The Itunes volume is set correctly.
Does anyone has a clue what I am doing wrong or how I can test my situation easily?
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2.16Ghz, 2GB

I assume that you are using 802.11g or b networking rather than 802.11n? I can get this to work with my Macbook Pro with 802.11g wireless with my airport express connected to my existing network, but when I turn on the 802.11n broadcast on, it fails. My Macbook is equipped with an 802.11n airport card and I can connect to the internet.

  • My mail has stopped sending. I can receive but I can't send.

My mail has stopped sending, even though I can still send via my iPod. Mail on my iMac can receive but not send. I've tried deleting the talktalk account and starting a fresh, but it's not made any difference. This has just started to happen, I was sending quite happily until now. Does anyone have a solution?
I get a message saying: Cannot send message using the server smtp.talktalk.net:(followed by my email address)

I would think that at the very LEAST you would be eligible for a COMPLETE refund of ALL charges for insurance paid thru Verizon!  They were charging you for something you were ineligible for!  Verizon has a record of whether or not you purchased the phone from them - otherwise how could they deny the claim!
It very sad to see how customer service and customer satisfaction has been lost here ... !

  • My External Hard Drive used to work on my Macbook Pro but it has now stopped working?

I was using a Seagate Expansion Portable Drive which used to work on my mac just fine.
but lately the hard drive will start humming once I connect it to the mac and then but it wont show up under devices and the blue light on the hard drive wont light up.
I have checked my USB ports, and they are all working fine.
If somebody knows the answer to this question would you please help
    Thanks

    One can't read the other.
Just to be clear Mac's can read/write FAT32 but windows cannot use OS X Extended. So to use a drive on both systems it needs to be formatted FAT32
FAT32 does have limitations and possibly the best solution is to use NTFS, a more modern, robust filesystem. The drawback here is that OS X does not natively read NTFS so a third party kernel extension is needed.

  • Leopard crashes on MacBook Pro but Tiger works

    Hello Forum,
Everytime I try to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard the MacBook Pro crashes at the installation process (sometimes at the beginning, sometimes in the middle of it). I tried different versions of Leopard DVDs (5.1, 5.4, 5.6) but all the same the install crashes. I also tried the installation with different memory modules, but no use. With Tiger the computer is rock solid, never ever had a crash before. I have run out of wisdom, what is wrong? If somebody has a solution, please let me know, thanks,
    Csaba

First, backup your Tiger system to an external drive as follows:
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the drive to which you will restore or backup.
Source means the drive you are restoring from or backing up.
Test the backup by booting from it to be sure it works.
    Now, do the following:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Finish the OS X installation. In the Setup Assistant be sure the new admin account uses the same shortname and password as on the Tiger system. Once you have OS X working you can move your data from the backup you made to the newly installed system. Here's a guide to what you can move:
Folders You Can Move to Your new Mac
From the Home folder copy the contents of Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
    For FireFox:
    /Home/Library/Applications Support/FireFox
    /Home/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist

  • VPN works on my MacBook Pro but not on my iPhone5s

I have an ASUS RT-N65U Router that allows me to create a VPN Server. I've followed the instructions, created one, and I can connect to the VPN on my MacBook Pro (running OS X 10.9.4). The problem is, when I add a VPN configuration on my iPhone (running iOS 7.1.2) and it connects but when I try to access the internet, it just... won't do anything. Whether I'm using LTE or my Wi-Fi, when I open up Safari and try to google.com or yahoo.com or any other websites, the blue progress bar up top stops at like 20% and it just stays there for a few minutes until it doesn't load anything.
I've entered all the information correctly on my iPhone. I've double / triple checked it all and it should be working because it works on my MacBook... so why won't it work on my iPhone?
The VPN settings on my ASUS router as as follows:
    Server Mode: PPTP
    Network Place (Samba) Support: Yes
    Broadcast Support: Both
    Authentication: Auto
MPPE Encryption: All (includes MPPE-128, MPPE-40, No Encryption)
Connect to DNS Server automatically: Yes
Connect to WINS Server automatically: Yes
    MRU: 1450
    MTU: 1450
    Client IP address: (private info)
Everything above that is bolded were automatic settings that I didn't touch.
TL;DR: Used VPN feature on ASUS router and it works on my MacBook but not on my iPhone. Help!

See if your Mac model supports it:

  • Wireless not working on my MacBook pro, but works on iPhone and other MBP?!

So I just got my new 15" MBP a few weeks ago. I have wireless Internet in my apartment. Just today I came home to use my computer, and I kept getting errors..... First "cannot connect to the internet". Then I had to enter my network password... Connnection timeout. Then incorrect password (which is crap because I enter it correctly) what's the deal?! Is this a faulty airport device?! The wireless works on my iPhone and my room mate's MacBook, but not mine.....?!

Well, assuming your MacBook Pro is up-to-date with OS X and Firmware and you can connect to other Wi-Fi (you can easily check that if you haven't already) then it may be a connection issue with the wireless router in your apartment. There are a variety of things this could be from Password Key being entered incorrectly, Media Access Control (MAC) being present on the router, your needing to register the laptop with your ISP, to your router firmware needing an update. I would just break down the possibilities into a list and then start testing them systematically one-by-one. If all fails and you think a hardware problem with the laptop then call Apple and arrange to have it checked over.

  • WHY has aol has stopped loading, complains connection is slow, but it works on explorer 8 and connction speed test is good.

aol mail not loading. It requests me to use a version for slower internet speed. However internet speed is good and aol mail works fine on explorer 8. The problem appeared on Monday 20 June. BT computer check finds everything okay. Running firefox without add-ons makes no difference. Java has been updated.

Agreed! This bug with the ringtone delay (№4.1) is really annoying

  • Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (64bit) shared folders no longer work with Windows 7 Pro but do work with WindowsXP & Windows 2003

As of last week, our Windows 7 Pro workstations can not map or browse the Windows 2008 Server shares. They can ping the Windows 2008 server. The Windows 7 Pro machines can still access the Windows 2003 Server Shares. The older workstations running Windows
XP can still map to the both the Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 Servers. All the servers can browse to each others shared folders (2 windows 2003 server & 1 windows 2008 server).

Ok, now you're down to network or permissions issues. An unedited ipconfig /all
of server and problem workstation may help. You could also try setting up some auditing.

  • What 3rd party monitor works best with Macbook Pro?

I am trying to find a good inexpensive monitor that will work with my Macbook Pro and my work laptop.  I bought a viewsonic before I found out that they don't support MacOSX with their driver.  The aspect ratio was never correct, it went straight to 4:3, and i couldn't fix it.  Has anyone used an AOS monitor?

using a mini port adapter to VGA, with the VGA cable supplied by viewsonic.  I haven't tried different cable or adapter yet.  I am trying to use the external monitor with my macbook in clamshell mode (getting old eyes).  When I originally set it up the macbook immediately went to 4:3 on the internal monitor, and detected the VS monitor.  I tweaked the resolution manually and got the aspect ratio to fit into the full monitor screen, but it was stretched and the resolution had to be set way down in order to get full coverage.  With the 1920x1080 res the image was only "active" on the right 3/4 of the monitor, and even after I moved the image to the left it stayed in 4:3 and was offset to the right.  I saw something about a screen spanner doctor (?) fo rthe macbook.  WOuld that help?
