Mail marked read on iPhone 5 automatically. Why?

This is weird. I just updated to iPhone 5 (restored from 4 backup) but this happened on my iPhone 4 too.
Mail comes in - iCloud email. The iPhone makes it's mail recieved sound, but the mail is not displayed becaue the iPhone has marked it as read. And if I open Mail on my iMac (Moutain Lion) - the email is not highlighted but marked as read too. BUT -  on my iPad Mini (also new) the email is NOT marked Read and the Mail icon lists 1 new message. And it is also in the Notification center. But the iPhone it is not in Notification Center.
This was happening on my 4 too - but not all email. AND Not always the same email. Sometimes the email that is marked read - comes in normal at times.
If Mail on y iMac is open - these emails come in and are not marked read. So it appears the iPhone (4 & 5) is the culprit.
Any ideas or thoughts?
Thanks

Hi there I'm having the same issue but only with 1 account, what was the fix?

  • Preview Pane:  I don't want e-mail marked "Read"

I love preview pane in Mail, but don't want it to automatically mark my e-mail as "read". Any way to do this?

No. If you look at the contents of a message, it's automatically marked as read, and there is nothing you can do about it other than manually marking it as unread.

  • Mail marking read copy of email in other account

Mail program on Mountain Lion Imac is marking read copies of email in another account which the email was both sent to. Main account is AOL for me and assistant uses gmail account which we both look at. If we are both sent an email and it is read in the AOL account on the Mountain Lion Imac the program marks the email read in the gmail account and the assistant doesn't think it is new. Marking it Unread works as long as the mail isn't read in the other account. This doesn't happen with IOS 6 phone or older operating systems. Can't see any preferences for this.

Are you using the same computer and the same user account? If so, try setting up a new user to separate the Mail accounts. You can then set up fast user switching.
    From System Preferences Help.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Exchange mail is marked "read" on iPhone and Exchange Mail

My boss asked me this morning if I had ever heard of this happening, and I have not.  He syncs his exchange mail with his iPhone.  He says that all of his mail appears on both devices marked as "read".  He is using Windows 7.  Has anyone had this problem?  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Why when I open mail on my iPhone it automatically goes to iCloud instead of my mailboxes page?

Could that be the last page you were using?
For me, it seems to go back wherever it was the last time it was closed, be it the mailboxes/accounts page, an account's mailbox list, a message chain list, or an individual message. I'm not aware of a setting that affects this.

  • IPhone Mail Mark as Read/Mark as Unread PLEASE ALREADY!

Please send feedback to Apple to have then add the following long overdue functionality:
    Mark Read
    Mark Unread
    Mark All Read
    Mark All Unread

Thanks, CT, but I really want Mail to NEVER mark anything as read automatically because I often open a message and skim it to assess its urgency, then leave it for later.  Your suggestion would at least mean that a message isn't marked read just because the cursor happened to land on it, but what a nuisance to have to turn off the preview pane and do all that extra clicking when all I need is for Apple to think for five seconds about how people actually work, and to understand that we need to control our own activities, not have some anonymous coder make those decisions for us based on ... what?  No research, no analysis, no thinking - just the first notion that came into his or her head.  Sorry to rant - it really does cause me genuine stress.
I've looked at various alternative mail/calender/task clients, but can't find one that syncs with other devices.  Or one that allows you to attach a reminder (with date and alarm options) to a message.  I have Mail Hub and Fantastical installed.  I just need one more plug-in that controls the read/unread behaviour properly and my life would suddenly be manageable and tolerable.  It seems like so little to ask.  I hope somebody else knows of such a plug-in.
Not being a coder and a fairly recent Mac convert, I know nothing about Apple Script, but I did wonder if the behaviour could be controlled with a script or an amendment somewhere else.  All suggestions welcome - and extra gratitude for 'for dummies' explanations.

  • Apple Mail not marking mail as read after being read on iPhone

I'm currently using my Gmail account (IMAP) on both Apple Mail and on my iPhone. When I read mail on my iPhone, Apple Mail doesn't change it read mail, even after several hours, but it is changed on the server. How do I change it so that it syncs mail status?
When I read mail on Apple Mail, it gets marked as read on my iPhone.

Check the account settings with Outlook which should reveal how you created and are accessing the account with Outlook.
If you used the Gmail account preset when creating the account with the iPhone's Mail app, the account was created as an IMAP account.

  • TS4208 Apple Mail client no longer marks my mail as read on all my iOS devices. If I read a email on my iPhone and later open Mail on my iPad, the iPad still shows the email as unread. This changed recently, perhaps after iOS7 upgrade. Did I miss a setting

Apple Mail client no longer marks my mail as read on all my iOS devices. If I read a email on my iPhone and later open Mail on my iPad, the iPad still shows the email as unread. This changed recently, perhaps after iOS7 upgrade. Did I miss a setting? All mail account are IMA. iCloud is set to push, business mail is set to fetch every 15 minutes.

Read thier own support document on the subject then
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1795
This document was written as an answer to all those who complained about it as paying MobileMe users
They ignored us then and when MobileMe became iCloud they ignored us again, and just carried on with a system that will not update the e-mail read status across all devices
That's how it works,   and like you 1000's of loyal Apple users cant believe it either but there you go

  • IOS 4 And Marking All E-Mail as Read

    Hello,
Does anyone know if the "Mark all E-mail as Read" feature is going to make its way into iOS 4 / iPhone 4? I keep trying to find a full list of features for iOS 4, but all I see is buttons that say "learn more" and point at the same page which says the mail client was updated to support new exchange server, threading, and MORE FEATURES, which I can't find explained anywhere.
The only way I'll consider buying an iPhone is if I can mark all e-mail as read within 1-3 taps. Thus far, I can't find any indication that this is actually the case.
    Thanks.

errr no...it is not a trivial issue, it is a real one.
I get 100-150 emails today, including a lot of spam which is a never ending task to control. I like to be able to scan email subject lines, choose the mails I want to look at, and then mark all as read. The Blackberry has a feature to do this with 2 clicks.
I have just got my first iphone, the iphone4, and am absolutely lost for words that there is no "mark all mail as read" function.
Telling folks to move from POP3 to IMAP is complete tosh. I mention this, as this appears to be a stock answer on some other forums. Why should you have to change your mail accounts /set up forwarding etc., just because you have changed phones?
Come on apple, less of the BS fluff apps. Give us proper control over our email please ! Unbelievable.

  • TS3899 Why is the number of e-mails higher on my iPhone than in my e-mail when I log into it on my computer?  The difference between the 2 keeps climbing.

Why is the number of e-mails higher on my iPhone than in my e-mail when I log into it from my computer?  And how do I fix it?  The number keeps climbing on my phone, making the difference between the two greater.

    You're welcome.
In order to have the account's Sent mailbox synchronized with the server with the Mail.app on your Mac and with the iPhone's Mail application, you must store the account's Sent mailbox on the server with each. The same applies to the account's Drafts and Trash mailboxes.
With store sent messages on the server deselected for the account preferences with the Mail.app on your Mac, create an "On My Mac" location mailbox. At the Mail.app menu bar go to Mailbox and select New Mailbox. Choose On My Mac for the mailbox location - which will be stored locally on your computer's hard drive and enter a name for the mailbox. You can name this mailbox MobileMe Sent. Select OK to create the mailbox, which will be available under "On My Mac" in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer.
Select your MobileMe Sent mailbox. Select a sent message in the mailbox and at the menu bar go to Edit and choose Select All. Follow this - at the Mail.app menu bar go to Message and select Move To and then select the new On My Mac location mailbox in the window provided. This will move all messages from the account's locally stored sent mailbox to the newly created On My Mac location mailbox. When this transfer has been completed, re-select store sent messages on the server for the account preferences.
Now do the same with the newly created On My Mac location mailbox where all sent messages were transferred to. Select a message in the mailbox and at the menu bar go to Edit > Select All. At the menu bar go to Message > Move To and select your MobileMe account's server stored Sent mailbox under Sent in the window provided. This will transfer all messages stored locally on your computer's hard drive from the newly created "On My Mac" location mailbox to the account's server stored Sent mailbox. These messages will no be available when accessing the account with the iPhone's Mail application.

  • Iphone 6 automatically turn on even not connect to charger, why would this happen and how to solve it?

iphone 6 automatically turn on even not connect to charger, why would this happen and how to solve it?

I'm not an apple expert or anything, but after hearing this from a coworker (and doing a quick google search) many of the generic chargers do not work in the 5s (especially after the most recent update.) I'm thinking this may be the problem in your case...the charger is not working so the phone just needs a good charge from either an apple certified charger or a generic that will actually work with the phone. I've read some people are able to pull the cable out, turn it around and then plug it back in facing the opposite direction to get it to work. Many have reported, however, that even when this remedies the cable issue, its still won't charge the phone while it is completely dead (which is likely the case since it won't power on at all.) So if you haven't fixed your problem by now, go buy a new charger and see what happens. You might be able to go into and apple store and borrow a charger there for a few minutes to see if this actually IS the problem. That way you don't waste your money before buying.

  • Emails marked as read on iphone when outlook is opened?

    Hello,
I have had a recurring problem which has resulted in a number of important emails being missed - I've researched as much as I can but have been unable to rectify it!
I use a 123reg email address on both my iPhone (5S, iOS8) and on Outlook for Mac (2011) on a MacBook Air OSX 10.8.5
Whenever Outlook connects to a wifi connection and fetches my emails, all of these emails become marked as 'read' on my iphone - really frustrating as sometimes I'll leave those I wish to action later marked as unread.
Currently, outlook has my email account marked as a POP account.
My account is also set up on my iPhone as a POP account.
Please help me as I'm reaching my wits end!

This is not a client issue, POP accounts do NOT sync but IMAP accounts do, find out how your accounts are actually setup. If they are POP then they are not working correctly and you should consult MS support (for Outlook) or your mail provider.

As you are on a residential service you have to wait for engineer availability priority is given to Business users as they get a different service level agreement also using a residential line for business use can leave you open for suspension or cancellation of service as it breach's the terms and conditions
