  • Disable Edit Report Option from SharePoint 2013 PowerView Dasboard

    Hi All,
I have PowerView Dashboard in Sharepoint 2013, In a Preview Bar there are three options i.e. File, Edit Report, Full Screen.
The requirement is disable only Edit Report Option from preview bar not all.
Please help me if there is any possibility for the same.

    Hi,
Based on your description, you want to disable the edit report option from SharePoint 2013 PowerView Dasboard.
    There is a workaround:
You can change the permission of the report. You should upload the report to a SharePoint library and set a user have read-only permission of the report. When the user open the report and save the changes, it will have error. The user cannot edit the report.
The article below is about change the report permission in order to disable the edit option.

  • Can't see 'Upload Multiple Document' option in sharepoint 2013

After upgrading Sharepoint 2010 to 2013, i can't see 'Upload Multiple Document' option under files tab. I have downloaded and place the file 'STSUPLD.DLL' into Office14 and Office15 folder but IE is not asking me to run any microsoft ActiveX control as mentioned here
    http://thuansoldier.net/?p=2289
    I am using  Office 2010 with IE9 (32 bit) .
    Am i missing anything ?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you could not see the “Upload Multiple Document” option in SharePoint 2013.
In SharePoint 2013 the “Upload Multiple” Options has been depreciated. As we all known, there are two alternative ways to Upload multiple documents:option
    1 -  Using the drag-and-drop functionality, option 2 - Windows Explorer view.
You can upgrade your IE from IE9 to IE10 then check whether it works.
You can also use the Windows Explorer view to upload multiple documents.
You will probably get the following error.
To resolve this add the SharePoint site as Trusted in your Browser and Make sure that the WebClient service is running. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then press Enter.
In the list of services, locate the WebClient service, and then make sure that its status in the Status column is set to Started. If its status is not set to Started, double-click WebClient, click Start, and then click OK.
Once done restart the browser and try opening the Windows Explorer again. In the Windows Explorer you can copy and paste Multiple documents as done in earlier SharePoint versions.

  • Apple updated Pages again but they seem to forget Mail Merge option which is significantly a life saver.  Do they have any intentions to put this back again?

I don't understand why Apple discarded Mail Merger option in Pages.  This is a lifesaver option which definitely saves the user's time in completing documents easily instead of doing it repeatedly.

Then don't put up with it. Pages 5 has over 90 other features removed:

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Export your Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx and trash/archive Pages 5.
Then rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.

  • Best logging option for SharePoint 2013 on-premise application

What is the best logging option for SharePoint 2013 on-premise application?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to know the logging option in SharePoint 2013.
SharePoint has its own logging system called “Unified Logging System (ULS)“, we can use the ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred, we can use the
ULSViewer for more convenient log viewing experience.
Or we can log information programmatically.
There are some logging classes can be used, such as
SPMonitoredScope ,  SPDiagnosticsService, or create your own “Diagnostics Service” – which is technically just a new class inherited
    from SPDiagnosticsServiceBase.
We can also utilize diagnostics.asmx web service for the client side applications.

  • Which one is the best approach for responsive UI development option in SharePoint 2013

Which one is the best approach for responsive UI development option in SharePoint 2013
Device channel or responsive UI (HTML, CSS)?

In practice you're probably going to end up with a combination. A couple of device channels for classes of device and then responsive UI within those channels to adjust to particular devices within the classes.
Of course the real answer is as always 'it depends' as you'll need to pick the best option for each client based on their needs.

  • MAIL MERGE DOCUMENT ON SHAREPOINT

I have a word document name list saved on my desktop that I use as a database when doing a mail merge. The letters I use as templates however are all stored on a SharePoint 2013 document library. When I tried to do a mail merge using one of these letters
(editing in word) the option for inserting merge field was greyed out. Is there a work around for this? Is there any way that you can create a mail merge from a document stored on SharePoint at all?
    Thanks,

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-word/word-mail-merge-to-excel-both-files-on-sharepoint/8fe7b8b6-3355-41a9-a92c-7a93b6e8f388
It is certainly true that an Excel data source would have to be on the local file system (i.e. on the user's workstation) or accessible via Windows networking. It can't be located at a URL such as ftp:// or http://, and know of no way to specify the location
of an Excel file in a Sharepoint system other than that.
As for the Mail Merge Main document, I would guess it was enough to open that from Sharepoint in the usual way, but until I get my Sharepoint sites back online I can't verify that for you.
    > Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having the documents on a SharePoint site if everyone ends up putting both documents on the local pc?
Yes, as far as mailmerge is concerned, if you have to use Excel data sources.
I don't know exactly what Microsoft's perception of Word's MailMerge features is, but I would say that they have mostly been in "maintenance mode" for many years, i.e. hardly any features have been added, very few of the common problems are
ever fixed or even documented, and so on. So broadly speaking you either have to live with the facilities that you can get to work, or find other approaches - I would guess the Microsoft expectation is that a corporate would probably have centralised its
mass mailing operations (so, e.g. you probably have all your data in a server database such as SQL Server, not in Excel sheets), and would have the resources to pursue other approaches to mass mailings (such as using a report generator, or using Word +
    .NET programming + content controls).
Although it would typically have its advantages, even shifting data to a server such as SQL Server is not a panacea because you then have to ensure that you, or the end users, can select the correct data for each merge.
But even if you /could/ use an Excel data source directly from Sharepoint, I suspect there might be some coordination/workflow issues to solve in a multi-user environment.
You might also be able to use Sharepoint lists as data sources, but because Word does not really know how to connect to them as data sources, you would probably have to have an Access licence for each user, and connect indirectly, and the multi-user/workflow
implications of that approach are unknown to me.
If this helped you resolve your issue, please mark it Answered

  • Problems with alignment when printing a mail merge envelope in Word 2013

I am using Mail Merge in Word 2013 to print approximately 100 envelopes, size #10 landscape (9.5" x 4.12"), with a return and recipient address.  But when it goes to print, the alignment is completely wrong: it prints the recipient address
at the "top" of the envelope, and the return address is completely cut off.  I have everything set up correctly in the document file and can preview each one of my envelopes.  Everything looks great on the screen, but the envelopes will
    not print correctly.
I have verified Word's printer feed method (by going to Envelopes > Feed > Printing Options) so that it matches how the blank envelopes are sitting in my printer tray.  I have verified in both Word and on my printer setup that the #10 envelope
is the correct paper shape/size.  I have verified the document's orientation (landscape) and the margins.  However, the envelopes still do not print in alignment with how they appear on the screen.  I've tried changing the printer feed method
and the position of the envelope, but it prints the same way every time -- regardless of which feed direction I choose in Word.  The recipient address is always too high up on the envelope, and the return address is completely cut off.
On a hunch, I inserted a plain sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper and printed the "envelope" on that.  Sure enough, Word prints the document as if the envelope were glued to the upper right corner of the sheet of paper.  (As in, if I
attached the #10 envelope to the upper right corner of the sheet of paper, all of the fields would be correctly aligned.)
How do I fix this and get the envelopes to print correctly?  Please remember that I have tried changing the printer feed method (the direction the envelopes go into the printer) on Word, which has no effect on how the document ends up printing.
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi,
We would suggest that you do any of the following:
    Update your printer driver.
    Go back to the
    Printing Options
    tab of the Envelope Options
dialog box, and make adjustments to the printing options. Print the envelope again. Repeat this process until you discover a configuration of printing options that yields the results that you want.
You may also follow this article steps to Create and print a single envelope test if it works:

  • Page Title Option in SharePoint 2013 Wiki Page.

In SharePoint 2013, How can I add title to the page that is created under Site Pages library, out of the box I don’t see any option to add title under “Edit Properties section” , please find the attached screenshot.
I am trying to navigate to the
    /_catalogs/masterpage
by opening site in SharePoint designer but I don’t find the test1.aspx page.
    Thanks, Ram Ch

    Hi Ram,
Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to add Title to a wiki page from Site Pages library in SharePoint 2013.
By default, when we edit a wiki page’s properties, the Title is not displaying. If you want to change the Title of a wiki page, you can modify the current view and add the Title into the view, then use “Quick Edit” to change the Title.
If you want to add the Title property into a wiki page, you can do via SharePoint Designer 2013.
    The steps are:
Open your site with SharePoint Designer 2013.
Click “Site Pages” from the left panel, then click the page that you used and click “Edit file”.
Find the content place holder with ID “PlaceHolderPageTitle”, then add the following code into the below of the content place holder.
    <asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderID="PlaceHolderPageTitleInTitleArea" runat="server">
            <SharePoint:ListItemProperty Property="Title" runat="server"/>
    </asp:Content>
    The result looks like:
Note: when you edit the page in SharePoint Deisgner 2013, make sure it is in Advanced Mode.

  • Publish a document from Document Workspace back to source location - missing option in SharePoint 2013

We intend to use Document Workspaces for reviewing all our Policies & Procedures.
Once all the changes to the document have been made, I am trying to publish a document from a document workspace back to the source location but the 'Send to: Publish to Source Location' option is missing in SharePoint 2013.
So instead I try to use 'Send to: Other Location' and copy / paste the URL from the original document library but this produces an error.
Has anyone come across this and if yes, know of a workaround?
A prompt response would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much for your prompt feedback and response.
Once I click on the file (from the Document Workspace) and go File | Send to | Other Location and then I paste the URL from the original document library and test it and the link works. It shows me the document library of the original location. When I keep
the filename the same (as I want it to override the original document with the new changes) and then I press OK and then it produces the error? I don't know what I am doing wrong???
When I look at the second hyperlink as below I complete all the steps but after step 5 which settings do I enable in the Content Organizer: Settings & Rules? I doesn't state what I need to configure?
Enable the Content Organizer in the Destination Site
To enable the Content Organizer in the destination site, do the following:
Browse to the site you want files routed to.
    Select Settings, Site Settings.
Under the Site Actions Grouping, select Manage Site Features.
    Activate the Content Organizer feature.
Click Settings, Site Settings, Site Administration, configure Content Organizer Settings and Rules.
Your prompt assistance would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Hide option for SharePoint 2013 UI upgrade

    Hello,
I just want to know if there is a way to hide the banner which pops up for UI upgrade on SharePOint 2013? We are trying to leave few sites on 2010 UI only.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Per my understanding, you want to hide the banner which pops up for UI upgrade as below:
You can add this custom CSS style into the master page, it will hide the banner for all the pages in the current site collection.
    <style type="text/css">
    #status_preview {
    display: none !important;
    </style>
About how to add custom CSS style into master page:

  • I am not seeing export to Excel option in SharePoint 2013 survey (even in the overview view mode)

    Hi
If anyone could point me in the right direction as to what steps to take to enable the export to excel option in a sharePoint survey list.
all other surveys are showing up that export to excel option.
I am not seeing the view dropdown as well which shows up on right (the only way to create new view is through the URL as of now)
    Constraints
Survey already has several responses now so making a new survey is not an option
(I know that when is any custom view is changed to default view and if Overview is made as the default view again this option goes away, but how to get this export to excel option back?)
    Steps taken till now
Checked in SP designer as to which field is set to default and it shows overview as the default.
Checked whether any web part was closed and it seems there was none else closed web part category would've shown up
Saved the existing survey as template both with the content included and without the content (without the content template has the export to excel option showing up)
    Many thanks ,
    Ab

    Aby,
    Do following, it will work
Create a simple list and hit export to excel to create owssvr.iqy file
    Open that file in notepad
Collect Survey list' GUID and View GUID from SPD. You need to change the pointer to test list to survey
Change list GUID and view Guid
    File will contain these code

  • Adding the PSWApproval Content Type to the Outcome Options in SharePoint 2013 Designer

    Hi All,
I would like to add the "PSWApproval Task" Content Type in the sharepoint 2013designer, in the process of creating a project server 2013 workflow.
By default the Share point Designer is taking the Task content Type as Workflow Task. Can some one help me adding the PSWApproval Task here. Attached is the snapshot of the same.
    Thanks

Its funny I am researching tis very topic right now. I have a SP2010 environment I will be migrating to 2013. My content types were used in multiple site collections without creating or using a content type hub. So, I am looking for information to create
a strategy to get them into one.
I have in excess of 400 Custom content types.   Also - Has anyone developed/documented a process for being able to rebuild/migrate data between content types.   Part of what we are looking to do prior to implementing a new records management

  • I get an error trying to use Apple Address Book with Word Mail merge - says it cannot open data file?

I am running MS Word 2011, latest Mac OS, and trying to use the Mail Merge option with the Apple Address Book as the data source.
However whenever I select the Apple Address Book as the data source, I get the error "Word was unable to open the data source".
    Anybody got any idea why?
    Thanks for your help

I am guessing you could have solved this little problem already but perhaps someone else may benefit:
I struggled with the same problem - not being able to use Mac Address Book (i.e. Contacts) with Word 2013 for mac mail-merge (on Mountain Lion and, now, on Mavericks) - with the exact same error message reported by Klausngigtoas above .
So I read lots of techie stuff on forums which passed a nice few hours but didn't help. Finally, with slumped, defeated expression, I gave up.
But I just now (such is life) I accidentally stumbled upon the simple solution:
    1. Enter System Preferences and click Security & Privacy.
    2. Select the Privacy tab and then on Contacts on the left hand panel.
    3. In the right hand panel ("Allow the apps below to access your contacts") just tick the Contacts box.
    4. And Voilà! - at least it worked for me - hope it does for you.
