Mail not showing up in IMAP box

Hello there.
I've been through other similar threads in the Apple Mail discussions, but haven't found my specific situation.
I am using Mail to access an IMAP server, and I store no e-mail on the local machine. A few of the IMAP mailboxes show up empty, even though another IMAP client (Thunderbird) can see messages in these mailboxes just fine.
One of the mailboxes has 40 messages, and is less than 300 KB, so I'm fairly certain I'm not running into size limitations.
I have tried rebuilding the mailboxes, to no avail. I have tried deleting the IMAP account from Mail and recreating it, and the same mailboxes are still displayed as empty. I have discovered that if I move other messages into those mailboxes using Mail, the move works ok in that I can see the moved message via Thunderbird, but Mail still can't see any of the messages. I can rename the mailbox using Thunderbird and see the change reflected in Mail, but I still can't see the messages.
The advice I've seen in other threads seems to apply to Mail 1.x, mail stored locally, and large mailboxes. Any advice for this situation?
1.67 GHz PB   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   100GB HD / 1GB RAM

I have a bit more info on the behavior. It's somewhat convoluted, but reproduceable.
I have a mailbox with 210 messages that shows 0 messages when viewed via Mail (as previously posted, I can work with it through Thunderbird just fine, though). It turns out that Mail is choking on just two of those messages. I narrowed down which ones they were by transferring the messages in small bunches to a new mailbox using Thunderbird, then launching Mail to see if it synchs properly. It does, on all but two of the messages.
The funny things is that using Mail, I can now see 208 messages in one mailbox and 2 messages in the other, and everything works just fine. If I move either of those two messages to the mailbox containing the 208 messages, the 209 messages disappear. I can then use Thunderbird to transfer that one message back to the smaller mailbox. If I then launch Mail, quit, and launch Mail again, the two mailboxes with 208 messages and 2 messages once again appear where they should.
There is nothing special about these two messages. They are plain text with no attachments, and contain just a few dozen words each.
The problem now, however, is that the messages in the 208-message mailbox are organized by date received, and if I click on a different header (e.g., Subject), the messages are not relisted by the active header, but rather the order of the messages are simply reversed by date received.
Could there be something about the sender name or subject heading that's causing this?
Also, I have posted to this thread several times now with absolutely no response. If someone from Apple could post just so I know these posts aren't going into a support black hole, please do. I am willing to work with Apple to debug their software (even though I'm not getting paid), but I want to make sure my time spent testing and prodding has a purpose.

Connect to iTunes and try to reset it from there.

  • Mail not showing new messages on 10.8.3

Mail not showing new messages on 10.8.3, but messages show just fine on iPhone. Nothing changed to make this happen, not sure where to start. Thanks.

    Back up all data.
Select the problem mailbox in the mailbox list, then select
    Mailbox ▹ Rebuild
    from the menu bar.

  • Apple mail not showing all the messages?

In Apple mail, for my icloud account, I have some mailboxes which show the wrong number of messages, it shows too few.
As an example, a mailbox contains 150 messages, but apple mail reports there are only 146.
I rebuilt the mailbox and let apple mail do its thing. In the activity window I can see there are 150 messages. Yet, once apple mail has finished rebuilding the mailbox, it still tells me there are 146 messages. What's going wrong? Why would apple mail not show all the messages while in the activity window it clearly shows it knows there are 150?

    Solved!
This was too weird to be real. Apple mail does not show messages it believes to be duplicates, and buy, does it make big mistakes in deciding what are duplicate messages and what not! Some of my mailboxes had over 100 "duplicates" not showing according to apple mail.
I found a solution thanks to this topic:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18265121#18265121
    defaults delete com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates
does yield an error in 10.8.2 ( Domain (com.apple.mail) not found. Defaults have not been changed. )
defaults write com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates -bool true
    Does work brilliantly though!

Only happened since the Mavericks upgrade.
Anyone come across this or got an answer?
    Thanks

No unfortunately not yet. No answers on this one

  • Mail not showing all IMAP folders

    Hi all -
I use Mail at work, and we have an extensive folder structure on our IMAP server.
Some of the folders are not showing up on Mail, even though they do on other mail clients like Thunderbird, etc.
Thunderbird has a "subscribe" feature, but I do not see any such feature on Mail.
How can I get Mail to see these folders?

Since my update to 10.5.2 I have the same problem with some .mac folders. I can see them online, I can see them in Thunderbird, but not in Mail. I really hope that someone has the solution, because this is more than annoying as I have an integrated worklflow with Mail, iCal etc...
By the way, I freshly set up the .mac account several times, evenunder another (new) account, but to no avail.

  • Mail not showing in mail box

For three days, I was not receiving any email.  I talked to my email provider and they found that my email was being forwarded to another unknown account.  I called that email provider and learned that the email address supposedly receiving my emails has not been in service since 2004. My email provider has stopped forwarding my email to the bogus account. I have created my own gmail account and now have my email fowarded to the new gmail and have deleted my old account from my mac.  HOWEVER, I now see email activity in the lower left corner of the mail window saying messages are being sent and received--in large numbers, but they are not showing up anywhere on my mac.  When I compare what I am receiving in my mac mail account to what is on the gmail server, they all match up.  Why I am getting this activity? Where would it be coming from?

Perhaps you can tell me how to restore my old emails from my old email account.
If you moved your backup folder for that account (not the entire Mail folder) into the Home/Library/Mail folder, the next thing you need to do is launch Mail and setup that Gmail account again. But before you can do that, you need to login to the Gmail web interface and change your password to something secure (something that cannot be guessed, preferably at least 27 characters long and using a string of random characters). I use 1Password to generate these, but you could also use LastPass, which is free.
If you don't use one of those password managers, copy the new password, paste it into a Sticky Note or TextEdit and save it.
After you've done that, then setup the Gmail account in Mail again, and after you've done that, Mail will import the existing messages again, and sync them with Gmail.
Where do you think the password was stolen from?  The email server or my computer?
It wasn't stolen at all; it was just too easy to guess using standard hacking tools. That's why you have to use secure passwords that can't be guessed.

  • ICloud mail not showing up as "box" on iPhone mail list

I have a me.com address. I have added it as an account on my iPhone. I can log in successfully on my desktop to iCloud to retrieve my mail. I CANNOT however, see a mailbox labeled iCloud in my iOS mail on my iPhone. Can anyone help me figure this out? I've restarted the phone over and over. I shut off Mail and turned it back on several times as well. Please help.
    Thanks!

    Hi Winston,
Let me clarify...sorry about that. When I go to Settings --> iCloud --> Under my Account name [email protected] there is a list of "Mail, contacts, Calendars, etc" with on/off toggles, I switched Mail to off and then back on again, in hopes that this would reset itself or something. When I return to my Mail application, iCloud doesn't show as one of my Accounts, only my personal Yahoo and my work Exchange account. I cannot figure out why my iCloud mail does not show up there, even though I am logged in under iCloud and i can access it on my desktop.
    I appreciate the help.

  • Sent mail not showing in folder

    Greetings,
Our Mac has three email accounts. For the last two days, one of the accounts does not show sent mail in the sent folder. The other two accounts are working properly. I have reviewed the MobileMe settings and the Preferences on Mac Mail and can't find the issue.
The accounts are all MobileMe (IMAP) accounts and accessed via iPad, iPhone and Mac, but no device is showing sent mail since Monday.
    Any suggestions?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Mail not showing mail

    Hi,
My Mail has been working great.. until i bought an iPhone4.
I don´t know if this is the reason, but when i synced my iPhone from iTunes my mail account only shows
    NOTES.
I deleted the mail account (my schools mail, imap) and reconnected the mail accounted. Mail started showing my mail again, after a few days the same thing. only notes.
interesting is that notes do sync AND the account is showing that new mail has arrived (the blue ball) but no matter where or what I click can I get the account to show my mail.
Thank you all for any tips or similar problems you can provide discuss. Thank you
    /Daniel Hilli

summer14, In case you haven't resolved this yet.
polzbert's solustion is excellent, assuming you have a backup drive using Time Machine. However, did you try rebuilding the inbox? If not, here's how:
Select the mail box that's giving you trouble in the left pane of Apple Mail. Then choose "rebuild" iunder the Mailbox Menu Item. This has resolved countless mailbox glitches for me in the past.

  • SMTP sent mail not showing up in sent mail folder

    Hello,
    Setup:
    Exchange 2010 SP1
    Outlook 2010
C# for sending mail, or Pentaho Kettle
Not really sure how to explain, but I have the following scenario:
Automatic programs send email using credentials (an active username / password on the domain. account linked to a mail box).
    Mail gets sent.
Mail does not show up in the sent mail folder of the account
I was wondering if there was a parameter on the Exchange server to configure so that the email sent via SMTP would show up in the sent mail box of the account.
    Regards,

  • Gmail & Apple Mail not playing nice via IMAP

Would like to get feedback from other users who are Gmail subscribers and use Apple Mail as their main application.
I have had good success with ML Apple Mail...Snow Leopard I preferred Sparrow.  Until recently I had no issues and everything was playing nicely.  However, in the last 2 or so weeks I have noticed odd behaviors between the two platforms.  What I noticed first was that mail that was read on my phone was still showing unread in Apple Mail.  A re-sync didn't solve it but a quit and restart of Mail did.  Hmmm.  Now I also notice that sometimes in deleting mail my whol folder for my Gmail account would show nothing and a restart of the program would fix that.
Yes, I did do quite a bit of searching on the internet.  I had deleted the account and restablished it...no fix...deleted library folder containing the mail data so it would rebuild...no fix.  So I thought maybe it was an issue with IMAP and Google.  I'm an apps user so I actually got a response from Google.  They have no fix other than telling me to use Thunderbird as "Due to the way in which Apple Mail is coded, we don't officialy support Apple Mail 5 or 6 as IMAP clients."  Huh?  Geez, I didn't have any issues before.
Oh, and yes, I have read How To's on setting up Apple Mail with Gmail.  Before using Sparrow on SL, I had used Apple Mail for quite some time.  So not new to using it with Gmail.
So I am wondering what others are experiencing and any fixes they might have if similar.  I don't like using the web interface and have gotten use to the flow of ML Apple Mail and like it.  I am trying Postbox and will also try Thunderbird (though the lack of program advancement is a bit of a negative).
    Thanks for any input.
    Mike

I noticed some views but no suggestions.  Is anyone else experiencing the issue of read Emails on phone still showing unread in Apple Mail?

  • Mail not showing new account

    Hi there!
I have added a new account (IMAP) and successfully configured it with an automatic installer provided by the hosting service.
I can see the new account only in the inbox folder, but not in the other folders (Sent, Trash, Junk, Drafts).
How can I have it comparing in the other folders?
    Thank you for your reply.
    Juan Carlos

I would expect the new address to show up in those boxes when you have made a draft, put something in the trash or sent something from the new address.
With one address those boxes do not show until something is in them.
    Hope that is clear enough.

  • Mail not showing attachments in my Sent Mail list

I have the paperclip icon in my menu bar so I can easily see emails with attachments but in Lion they are not showing at all. Old mails BEFORE I upgraded to Lion show attachments. Has anyone sorted this issue?

Have found a solution that works: see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3308790?start=0&tstart=0

OK, I have no idea why, but the following worked.
I created a rule in the Preferences pane:
    CONDITIONS
         sender is me
attachment contains "." (every file does)
    RULE
         set color to (anything)
    The rule worked.
    Furthermore, the paperclips appeared!!!
