Mail Read Receipt Issue I Don't See Addressed

I have a company e-mail account that I use for work along with other accounts that are all in my Mail client. I use my MacBook Pro and my iPhone to send and receive mail. Everything works fine.
My employer has recently asked that I have a return receipt function turned on so that he can know or other people at our office who send me messages can know when I get these messages. I tried and explained before that because I'm not using Windows and Outlook like all of them that I can't enable that feature. Apparently now he wants that changed and wants me to use outlook. This is a big pain because I'm used to easily using Mail to manage everything and don't want to have to use parallels everytime I check my work e-mail. Is there anytype of fix that I could do that would give him confirmation everytime I get an email from him as opposed to actually having to boot up windows everytime I need to check an email.
I know you can do the terminal command to request a return receipt but all I'm concerned with is sending one to him when I get an email from him.
Thanks,
Joe.

  • Mail read/ receipt option.....

hello , just read ur helpful post, but really looking for a mail program that can offer i read/received confirmation tool......any idea where i can find it,,,,,,,,,,,bizarre that mail on MBA does NOT offer this option that's quite common on windows .........thanks for ur help.....

bizarre that mail on MBA does NOT offer this option that's quite common on windows
"Common on Windows" meaning "included in Microsoft's e-mail clients?" Okay. Commonly used by Windows users? No, I don't think so.
    It's important to note that:
    1) Most e-mail clients either don't support sending read receipts or don't send them by default.
    2) Many (most?) people using clients that will send read receipts don't turn them on for some very good reasons (security, privacy, etc).
For these reasons, it's important to understand that not receiving a read receipt tells you absolutely nothing about whether the message was read or not. In addition, receiving a read receipt is not a guarantee that the message was actually read and understood... people often glance at an e-mail and then put it aside, meaning to act on it later. Thus, is the information a read receipt is able to give you actually worth having? In what way will it make your life easier or get your work done faster? For the most part, it won't affect your workflow at all, so why bother with it?
As my wife the doctor would say, if the results of a test won't change the treatment, what's the point of putting the patient through the discomfort involved?

How can I activate "read receipt" as with Outlook?

I misread your post so ignore all below the next sentance. Mail does not include read receipt functionality, for good reason.
--- Ignore what follows. It does not address what the poster asked ; ---
In my Outlook 2007 the settings for read receipts are here: In Outlook > Tools > Options > Email Options > Tracking Options
But read receipts, either requesting or responding to are never a good idea. It is totally up to the recipient if they provide a read receipt. Most email clients, your Outlook included, allow you to set the client to never respond to a read receipt. This is for security and privacy reasons. As to requesting a receipt. It is of little value for you to request a receipt given that most email users have set their clients to never respond. So even if you request a receipt you still won't know in most cases if the recipient read the email or just ignored your request.
From a personal perspective, it is no one's business other than mine if or when I read my email. So don't send me a read receipt request because it will be ignored.

  • E-mail read receipts - how to make them optional

    Hi,
Is it possible to turn off "read-receipt" by default, or else to be asked, prior to such receipt being sent, for an activesync based e-mail account?
When using the e-mail account from my (work) laptop, Exchange read receipts are 'off', always. When reading any mail 'first' on the Q10 though, then any read receipt requested by the sender is sent, automatically.
I cannot find any (obvious) setting on the handset to toggle read receipts on/off.
(I imagine this is BB10, rather than handset specific?)
    Thanks.

  • Setting mail read receipt

    Hello,
I'm trying to send a msg with read receipt but in mail theres no option for that. I've googled on the subject, find some information, but i'm not sure that is completely correct.
Anyone of you guys have tried to work this out?
Thanks for your time and help.
    Cheers

Whatever you found is likely correct.
Mail does not support read receipts, I imagine because it is a stupid concept.
You can set up Mail to always add a custom header that requests a read receipt. There is no way to set that up on a per email basis. It is all or nothing.
Why is it a stupid concept you might ask? Because read receipts depend on the destination email client to handle them (Mail does not), and they depend on your recipient allowing them to be sent. I believe all email clients are now set up with automatic response turned off, if it exists at all. So, you not getting a read receipt is completely useless. You have no idea if the email has not been read, or the person you sent it to doesn't allow responses or if their email client even knows what to do with the read receipt.
Also, spammers have co-opted the read receipt to validate their email lists. Send a read receipt and get a response = valid email address to sell.
Instead of trying to sneak in a read receipt on someone, politely request in the email itself notification that they have read your email as it is very important to you for some reason.

  • E-mail Read Receipt

  • Read receipt issue in exchange 2013

    Hi All,
In my environment ,we are having exchange 2013 sp1 ENT edition with outlook 2010 and 2013 as the email client for the exchange users having their default email delivery to pst file .
In addition to that , if anyone of the sender send an email with read recipient option to the particular recipient who is having the default email delivery to pst file will generate an error message to the sender .
Note : Above issue is not happening for all the users having their default email delivery to pst file but for some users .
Error message : Your message was deleted without being read .
    Steps handled :
1.) I have set the recipient mailbox message configuration to never send an read response but still the response is going to the sender.
    2.) Checked the outlook versions.
Please do not ask us to have the default email delivery to exchange mailbox and it is not possible in our environment.
    Regards
    S.Nithyanandham
    Thanks S.Nithyanandham

    Hi Niko Cheng ,
Sorry for delay and thanks for your response.
Did the sender use outlook 2010 or 2013?
We are facing the same issue in both the versions
Is there the same issue when send an email with read recipient option via OWA?
Same is happening in outlook as well as in owa.
How did you set the outlook 2013 client to deliver email to pst file?
When we go to outlook account settings there is an option called "change folder" ,on that we
have set the pst file as the default delivery mail location .
As suggested ,We have moved the mailboxes from one database to another database , But still we are facing
    the issue.

  • Mail app. and Webmail .Mac don't sync Address Book properly

How does one go about making these 3 things Sync with each other correctly?
    What I mean is this:
I have a lot of contacts with emails and such in my Address Book. I can access those with the Mail app. and I can send emails and keep on adding more info.
I use my .Mac account to supposedly sync and backup everything - so that when I happen to be away from my computer or if I want to surf it by webmail in to my account, I can -
however, when I access the address book inside my account in webmail, it's all jumbled up. A lot of the contacts have 2 copies of each, and then all the email addresses that I have been saving when I get new emails from new people within webmail it saves as a completely new contact.
This is getting tedious. Is there any way to make all these sync a little more coherently?
    Thank you for your suggestions.

Sorry all,  re my question above,  since reading a response, from Winston Churchill, to another question I realise that I have two address lists on my iPhone (iCloud and On My Mac). They match each other and (MacBook)Address Book  but don't match the Mail Contacts.  Thanks, M

  • Read-receipt of mail

how do I get the read-receipt of mail

You don't. Mail doesn't support read receipts.
You can add them to every email you send by editing the default headers:
    http://email.about.com/od/macosxmailtips/qt/et_request_recp.htm
Note that is an all or nothing modification. You can pick which messages send read receipt requests.
You can always just ask in the body of the email for the recipient to please respond as their activities are very important for you to monitor.

That used to work to send read receipts, but I don't know if it still does. The failures the OP posted indicate a malformed command, not that it won't still work.

  • Sending read receipts

How can I change settings to stop my mobile from sending read receipts? I’ve turned it off in outlook (as far as I know), but when using my mobile this does not seem to work. Using intellisync and an E65.
    appreciate any advice
    E65

I logged into my Office 365 Outlook Web Access/Mail and disabled read receipts too, but believe another poster here commented that iOS devices are ignoring and/or by-passing the setting.
I'll have to see what it does for the Mail app on OS X.
But from what I've read in these forums related to the issue, if the mail.app doesn't support read receipts (which I realize is not a common standard), then why does it send a read receipt when you open/view an e-mail?  That doesn't make any sense.
I've always disabled read receipts.  I don't let email rule my day.  Just because I opened an email doesn't mean I read it and should reply to it in a certain time frame.  Your sense of urgency doesn't dictate a priority on my end.
In today's world, senders expect immediate responses, just like they do with text messages.  That is ludicrous.
Thanks for letting me ramble.  Sure wish there could be a setting or hack for OS X (at the terminal level) to disable this very annoying 'feature'.

  • My iMessage read receipts are turned on but it doesn't work for all my contacts

I have iMessage read receipts turned on on my iPhone 5. Several of my contacts also have it turned on. They can see when I read their messages but it's not showing up on my end. Someone explain to me how this is happening and how I can fix it. I have SEVERAL contacts who can see my read receipts but I can't see theirs. It has to be something on my end but I don't see how!
    Thank you.

How did the photos get onto your iPad e.g. were they copied to the iPad from your computer ? If not then you should be able to delete them directly in the Photos app on your iPad. If they were copied from your computer then they are removed from the iPad using the same process as you used to put them onto the iPad :
Connect the iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar (if you are using iTunes 11 on your PC then control-s should get the sidebar to show) :
On the right-hand side of the iTunes screen select the Photos tab :
If you just want to remove some folders/albums that you had copied from your computer then de-select them on the list :
If you want to remove all photos that you had copied to your iPad from your computer then select and sync a folder that doesn't have any photos in it :

  • IMessages: the read receipt is not consistent?

Apologies but I'm getting so much into my iPhone. And I've found this forum so helpful!
Right: I've turned my iMessages back on, with the read receipt also on. You see I text A LOT. Now 3 contacts are telling me that  just beneath their sent message to me, blue bubble, sometimes it says 'read' and sometimes it says 'delivered'. But truly I have read all their messages, in fact I've even replied (when it just said delivered). I checked my settings, the read receipt is still on. So why is it not consistent? Many thanks.

  • Exchange Read Receipts

I think the answer is no, but I wanted to check here anyway. Can you do "Read Receipts" using Apple Mail with an Exchange account. Thanks.
    Rob

I don't think it has changed in SL, but this is the way it was:
There are ways to add the header to a Mail message, but Mail doesn't respond at all to read receipts sent by other servers. If you google for Mail read receipt, you'll find a way to enable the header to send read receipts.

  • Don't see the account type pop-up in the add user panel in Server

My 10.8 server was set up out-of-the-box to host network accounts via Open Directory. No Prob. We created various users for my laboratory, all works swimmingly.
Today, for fun, giggles, etc, I've bound the server to my uni's Active Directory server - my hopes, to be able to add users to my laboratory's network/server services setup from the master super authentication server.
The AD server was bound via the Users & Groups -> Login Options -> Network Account Server button (it shows 'Multiple' now- the original OD server, set up via the initial server configuration helper utility, and the uni's AD server)
I go into Server's Users panel I see Local Users, Local Network Users, and Users from <Active Directory Domain>
The Directory Utility shows the AD Domain in its search path.
If I enable network logins on the server (In the Users & Groups System Preferences) any ol' user from the AD server can log in, it creates a mobile, managed directory, etc. All is OK. I've disabled this as I'd rather not folks log into the server... just me the admin.
I want, instead, to 'import' user accounts, by hand, from the AD server, as is shown/enunciated here:
    http://help.apple.com/advancedserveradmin/mac/10.8/#apd9ff42f68-0148-40df-a8a8-a 66ad0d291b9
When I hit step #3, eg, selecting the 'Type' of account to add I fail to see the 'Type pop-up menu'. Reading on -
If you don’t see the Type pop-up menu, your server isn’t connected to a network account server in your organization.
yet, I most certainly am, as per the above.
