Mail rejecting password and has now locked me out

Anyone else experience this:
Computer goes into sleep mode with mail program was still open. Upon being reactivated from sleep, the pop-up window says password for the mail account has been rejected.
I've typed in the password (accurately) and it was rejected. I typed the password in again, but it was rejected. This nonsense continued enough to where the account disables and now I cannot get back in.
Alas, I cannot reset the password because I cannot remember the security question answer. But the real issue is the program rejecting the password when I never logged out of mail.
This is a mess, since Apple is utterly hard-headed about a security question I created 8 years ago. And my credit cards have changed since then, as well, and I don't have access to those numbers.
This account originated as a mac.com, which was changed by Apple to .me and mobile me and icloud. This is f'd up.

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

You should still be able to log into an old email account, even if you haven't used it for some time, very few providers delete email accounts.

  • Mail rejects password and inbox is blank

    Dear All,
    I hope someone can help!
Earlier today my Mail was working fine: then it suddenly demanded my password. It rejects what I believe to be my password, and has emptied (seemingly) my Inbox. I can still gain access to it all through Mobile Me, but it isn't satisfactory at all!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Roger

Under normal circumstances, each Mac owner has two accounts when they set it up: one is the Administrator (Admin) account, and the other is their own personal account. However, some people use the Admin account as their personal account, which is dangerous.
Even so, if you open your Finder window to look at the contents of your hard drive, on the left you'll see various icons; one of them is your Home folder and it has your username next to it. That is the folder to start at.. Click to select it, then to the right a new list will appear and choose Library from that, then choose Mail from the next list that appears.
Inside that Home/Library/Mail directory is a list of all your mail account folders. Since you have a MobileMe account, it could start with "Me-" or "IMAP-"; you need to remove that specific folder, then follow the rest of the steps I detailed previously.

  • My iPhone 5 has my old email address and password in it, I updated both online, but my phone will not recognize and therefore has now locked me out of my photo stream.  how do I change my iCloud email on my phone???

    Please help.
iCloud on my iPhone still has my old email in it with no option to update it.  I have no access to the old email.   I updated my email and password online via my macbook, but my phone will not recognize either!  It keeps popping up a screen for me to enter my password, but it says it's incorrect.
How do I fix this on my phone?????
I can't fix it online because my iCloud online (although working) does not recognize either of my devices because they need updated….which I'm not able to do due to storage issues.
I just want my phone to recognize the new email and password!!
I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm about to throw this phone across the room.
    thanks!

  • Hi, i am trying to download an ap and it is saying my sercity questions answers are wrong, it has now locked my apple id and wont let me use it. It is saying it is going to send the reset for the passwords to my email adress.

Hi, i was using my iphone 4 and i was trying to download an app. It was saying i needed a sercity question. I tryed to remember the answers to the questions but i forgot. It was saying it was going to send the correct answers to my email. But the email it has typed in i have never seen before in my life. So i was wondering what to do. It has now locked my apple id and wont let me use it.

That's not a good sign if it said it was going to send it to an email address you've never heard of. Contact iTunes Support and let them know this: http://apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

  • My iPad has been reported stolen and is now locked.

My iPad Mini had been reported stolen and is now locked with a passcode. I didn't report it nor is it stolen. I live no where near a Apple store and have no means of getting to one, is there anything I can do?

How do you know that it has been reported stolen?
If someone used "Find my iPhone" to lock your iPad mini then they must know your Apple ID and password. This sounds a bit like an inside job/joke. If not, you should immediately change your password.
If you cannot find the passcode then:
You will need to restore your iPad from the same computer that you most recently synced to.
    Read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If you can't do the restore then you will need to try recovery mode.

I tried to remember the password for the iPod and introduced several times and is now locked How do I open the lock

iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
iOS: Unable to update or restore

Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to reset the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). • TS3276 Mail rejected password to one of my 3 accounts with Gmail, all old.  Successfully entered the account from Google mail interface.  What's wrong?

I have had Mail for years.  Have new MacBook Pro, set my old 3 accounts with Gmail, used them successfully. Yesterday, Mail rejected password to one of my accounts and does not accept it repeatedly.  I entered this account from Gmail page, no problem, so my password is correct.  Went back to Mail, this particular account is rejected.  Checked all Mail preferences, all are the same as initially set.  What is wrong?

In both cases, the default address is right.  However, upon receiving the email, it says the wrong address.  Thus, when people reply to my emails, I do not get it in my apple email, I have to sign in under the other (wrong) email address.

  • Help! Bought a used iMac (2008) and I'm trying to install quicktime but its asking me for a password and has Apple in the "Name" spot.  How do I retrieve or reset the password?

    Can anyone help...
I just bought a used iMac (2008) from an ebay seller and I'm trying to install quicktime but its asking me for a password and has Apple in the "Name" spot.
How do I retrieve or reset the password?
It came with the upgrade of Mountain Lion but I cannot find quicktime in the applications.  When I try to install anything this Installer Password thing comes up... so I'm stuck.

I think you're slightly misunderstanding something, so maybe I'll try to chime in, even though everyone has said it in various ways.
Before OSX 10.7 (aka Lion) came out, the upgrades to OSX belonged to the Mac and not the user. Probably there was a technical legality in the user agreement that you couldn't do that, but everyone did. I could sell a Mac with Snow Leopard (or anything before that) by just erasing the hard drive, and reinstalling OSX. Then ship it to the buyer. Now, I was pretty honest as a seller, and including not only the original installation discs but also any upgrade. I would only sell a Mac if I was replacing it, so I always was getting the brand new version.
With OSX 10.7, upgrading was done online, with no disks. So the upgrades were tied to an Apple ID rather than the machine. Recently, I sold a MacBook Pro (to upgrade to a 27" iMac), which came with Lion. I had promised the buyer that it would come with Mountain Lion, but I didn't know that the upgrade was tied to my Apple ID. I made good with the buyer by sending along a $20 Apple App Store card so that she could upgrade to Lion.
So what everyone is saying here is that you need the original Installation discs or Snow Leopard disk to reinstall and wipe out the Mountain Lion that is on your Mac. It doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the seller, and without his Apple ID and password, you cannot use it. Once you do a reinstall of Snow Leopard, then you can upgrade to Lion and then to Mountain Lion. I do not believe you can upgrade directly to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard, but I'm not sure.
If the seller claimed that you were getting Mountain Lion, then he was lying to you (or being more civil, maybe he just didn't know like I did). If you bought the used machine from Amazon Sellers or from eBay, then you have recourse through the feedback system or through PayPal. If you bought it any other way, you're on your own.

Connect the iPod to your syncing computer and restore it via iTunes.  However, if iTunes asks for the unknown passcode you need to place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore the iPod from backup.  For recovey mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
"If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it.
