Mail via a Windows Server

Any one know how to set up an email address that is generated via a Windows server?

Hi,
This may be another option for you...
Is your Exchange hosted for you / Office365 or on premises?
If it’s on premises and you have storage space you could use a Transport Agent (and specifically a Routing Agent).
Using an agent you can take a copy of ALL email going in and out of a server (that's the whole email not just the headers or a log entry for it), then all you need to do is store it somewhere. I'd suggest just store it on file with an index (with date information
and the path to the email on disk etc) in a SQL database. Then when you need your "emails in a date range" simply run a query against your SQL database to get the list of emails. You can always run a batch job every now and then to remove emails older than
a certain date.
If your Exchange is hosted (or you are not allowed to install software on the server) this won't be an option.

  • Mail relay through Windows Server 2003

I work in a communications department at a small university.  I'm running a Mac network sandboxed inside of the main institution's Windows network.  All of my macs are connected to an XServe and all services except internet access are controlled via my XServe.  We're connected to the internet through a router between my network and the main institution's.  We're set up this way because the IT department won't touch macs, so they pushed all the mac stuff onto me (I don't have a computer science degree or anything of that nature, just an interest and a couple server certification classes).
Anyway, I have a small web-based app that handles gear checkout.  For simplicity, it only works on my intranet.  However, it's designed to send emails to appropriate people for different things (when gear is checked out, if there's a problem, etc).  The problem is that these emails must be relayed through IT's server.  They're telling me that they can't set their server up to relay email from mine without making it an open relay (which, obviously, none of us wants).
My question is, is it really that difficult to allow email to relay from a specific address on Windows Server 2003?  On my mail server, I readily found a "Allow relays from these address only" section and seems this is exactly what would be needed on their side--I can't imagine it's much more difficult or generalized than that on their end.
Here is the log entry on my server when an email is attempted to send.  Is there something else I should be looking at besides the relay?
    Mar  8 10:03:28 MYSERVER postfix/smtp[12631]: 3C02EE81654: to=<[email protected]>, relay=IT.MAIL.SERVER[192.168.x.x]:25, delay=0.01, delays=0/0/0.01/0, dsn=4.7.0, status=deferred (SASL authentication failed; cannot authenticate to server IT.MAIL.SERVER[192.168.x.x: generic failure)

They're telling me that they can't set their server up to relay email from mine without making it an open relay
Then they're even stupider than your opening paragraph implies. Seriously. If they cannot setup their mail server to accept and relay mail from a specific IP address they really should be looking for other jobs... no, other careers entirely, since they have no idea what they're doing. Or, at least, no interest in what they do.
Indeed, a google search finds a Microsoft Technet article as the first hit. I believe item #4 on that list is exactly what you need. And I don't even do Windows!

  • Yahoo mail via mac- smtp server authentcation issues using Rogers ISP

    Hi All,
I know there is tons of comments posted here that are quite redundant in respects to using yahoo mail via mac. I am in Toronto using Rogers as ISP and have set up my pop ok - incoming mail is ok. I try to send a test email and i am getting the message
Cannot send message using the server smtp.mail.yahoo.com
The server response was: authentication required - for help go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-11.html
I hav tried all kinds of stuff here based on suggestions i have read in this forum.
    incoming mail server- pop.mail.yahoo.com
    outgoing mail server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
server settings- port 587- have also tried 25
    ssl not checked
    authentication is not checked
i have tried smtp.rogers.broadband.com as an alternative also, but then it simply rejects my authentication password
I am really stuck here- if anyone out there in Toronto area using Rogers, has any feedback, i greatly welcome it.
    Hope to hear from you.
    Barry
macbook pro-   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    No. not SSL.
    Server authentication.
And i don't think you need to add a password there. You are already sending password from the POP settings - SMTP authentication picks up password from there.
This is from the help file at rogers.com (your ISP?)
    http://help.yahoo.com/help/rogers/mail/pop/pop-15.html
Are you sure that using these settings don't work?
This is for Outlook Express for Mac, but your Mail settings should be close enough to find the appropriate boxes.
If your friend is on rogers yahoo, just duplicate her settings except in the address/password boxes.
Outlook Express allows you to add a new email account to your existing profile, so you do not have to replace your current settings in order to send and receive Rogers Yahoo! Mail messages. To set this up, follow these steps:
    1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
    2. Select the "Mail" tab.
    3. Click the "Add" button.
    4. From the Add menu, click "Mail."
    5. In the Display Name text box, type your name, and then click "Next."
    6. In the email address box, enter your full Rogers Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., [email protected] or [email protected]).
    7. In the Incoming (POP3) box, type:
    pop.broadband.rogers.com
    8. In the Outgoing (SMTP) box, type:
    smtp.broadband.rogers.com
    9. Click "Next."
    10. In the Account Name box, type your full Rogers Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., [email protected] or [email protected]).
    11. In the Password box, type your Rogers Yahoo! Mail password.
    12. If you want Outlook Express to remember your password, then check the box.
    13. Do not check the "Log on using secure password... " box.
    14. Click "Next."
    15. Click "Finish."
To control deletion of messages from the Rogers Yahoo! Mail Server, follow these steps:
    1. From the Tools menu, choose "Account."
    2. Select the "Mail" tab.
    3. Double-click on your Rogers Yahoo! Mail account.
    4. Select the "Options" tab.
    5. In the Server Options section at the bottom of the window, check "Leave a copy of each message on the server" if you want to save your Rogers Yahoo! Mail messages on both the Rogers Yahoo! Mail server and on your local computer. If you would prefer to have your messages deleted from the Rogers Yahoo! Mail server after you have received them in Outlook Express, do not check this box.
To change your default SMTP port settings:
    1. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
    2. On the Mail tab, click your Internet Mail account, and then click Edit.
    3. On the Account Settings tab, click Click here for advanced sending options, and then type 587 as the port number for your SMTP (or sending) mail.

  • Deploying Printer Server via GPO (Windows Server 2008 R2)

    Hi guys,
I having encountered problem while  deploying printer server via GPO. My operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2. See the details below:
"one or multiple errors have occurred during the execution of a deply or remove printer connection problem"
Anybody know's how to fixs this problem ASAP.
Any suggestion or clarification would be great!
    Please advice me, thanks
    Regards,
    Bishelp

    Hi Bishelp,
Firstly, please check the security tab of that printer, make sure your user account has access permission for it.
To perform these procedures of deploy printer connections, you must be a member of the local Administrators group and have write access to Group Policy objects (GPOs) in the AD DS domain or the organizational unit (OU) to which you want to deploy printer
connections. For more information please refer to following MS articles:
    Deploy Printer Connections

In addition, it would be helpful if you could help to collect the following information:
What is the detailed information about this error?
What are the steps of deploying printer server?

  • Retrieving Mail via a Proxy Server

    Hello,
I have just recently arrived at my University's campus. In order to access the Internet they informed me that I needed to configure the Proxy Server, which I understand I did successfully since almost every Web Page loads correctly in Safari.
Nevertheless, Mail cannot retrieve e-mails from my G-Mail account (the POP settings are correct, because I checked my e-mail via Mail until my last day at home).
Any help regarding this will be highly appreciated,
    Joan
P.D. Please bear in mind that the Proxy Server is opened for G-Mail, as I can access it via Safari with no problem. In addition, should any of you have any insights as to why Adium (a multinetwork messaging client) does not connect will be really helpful as well.

    Hola Joan.
What does “Mail cannot retrieve e-mails from my G-Mail account” mean? What’s the problem exactly?
It could be that you’ve enabled more proxies than you should, thus causing Mail to try to use a proxy that doesn’t really exist.
In particular, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose the network interface used to connect to Internet from the Show popup menu and try disabling the SOCKS Proxy in the Proxies section if it’s enabled.
While you’re at it, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.

  • Can't Send Mail Via HughesNet SMTP Server

After installing 10.5 I find that I can receive mail from my ISP (HughesNet) but I can't send mail through the smtp server. I've tried every setting possible and even duplicated the settings off my wife's 10.4.10 iMac and I still can't send mail. All I see is that the smtp service is "Offline."
Fortunately, I have a .Mac account so I can send mail using that smtp server. But I'd like to be abel to use my HughesNet server.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

My mom uses RoadRunner by Time Warner. She was able to receive email using Leopard and Mail but not send. SMTP server was the big problem like everyone else here experienced. We finally were able to get it to work using many ideas here. What we did:
    1) Delete com.apple.mail.plist from the User/Library/Preferences folder (BACK UP YOUR EMAIL FIRST)
    2) Open Mail and create a new account but disable the automatic set-up feature, put your info in manually.
    3) Uncheck " Use only this server" from the outgoing mail
    4) Under the Advanced tab on Mail Prefs "port set to 25", Uncheck "SSL" box, and uncheck "Use Authentication"
    5) Now hit Create
It took Mail about 20 minutes to contact the SMTP server, but it did and now I can send and receive Mail without any problems on her computer.
Bad Apple...stop criticizing MS and Vista when your own house is not in order yet. Hope this helps someone out there.....

    at http://java.sun.com/products/javamail/
The JavaMailTM 1.3 API provides a set of abstract classes that model a mail system. The API provides a platform independent and protocol independent framework to build Java technology-based mail and messaging applications. The JavaMailTM API is implemented as a Java platform optional package and is also available as part of the Java 2 platform, Enterprise Edition.
You will also need the JavaBeansTM Activation Framework extension or JAF (javax.activation). We recommend the latest 1.0.2 version. It is available at http://java.sun.com/beans/glasgow/jaf.html.
This JavaMailTM 1.3 API comes with a set of sample programs one of
which is developed in JSP to send mails.First try to execute this

  • Folder Redirection via GPO (Windows Server 08 R2)

Can you post an image of the settings in the GPO you used?  Maybe we'll see something wrong.

I have setup a Folder Redirection GPO that works quite well on my test group. The only issue I have seen is with users that have pre-existing data on their computer. If I create a new user in AD, log on as them and save some items to the desktop and documents folder THEN link the GPO, I am unable to see anything in their folders (at least anything that existed before the GPO was linked). If I go to their folder on the server as that specific user, I can see that the GPO worked. If I create a new user and link the GPO to them, THEN create a few documents, I can see what they have created. It appears that the only issue I am having right now is seeing the users data that they had BEFORE the GPO was linked on the server as the system admin. Grant Exclusive rights... is Disabled and Move the contents... is Enabled.I want to be able to...

  • Windows Server Mac networking issues

    Hi all,
I recently moved to a new office where internet access is provided via a Windows Server network.
I use a Macbook and am having the following issues whilst using the internet:
    - When I attempt to FTP a file, the first time I do it it always hangs. If I immediately try to upload the same file it works fine.
    - The first time I send an email it bounces back, the second time it works just fine.
    - If I try to post a comment on a website (or add new content on our site via a custom CMS) the first time I do it it doesn't work, the second time it's fine!!
These issues are driving me crazy, does anybody have any idea as to what the cause maybe? Does anybody know how I can find out more about the specific network set up via the terminal or cmd prompt on the pc next to me? I've tried asking people in the office but the tech support is non existent
    Cheers,
    Woody

    Hi Charles,
Thanks for your help with this... I've tried connecting via ethernet and via two wireless access points that are all connected to the same network but the issues still persist. Would this suggest that the problem is something to do with the actual server software configuration itself?
Ooh, yes. That's a server problem. You're not going to have the same connectivity issue with different wired and wireless connections, and we've already established that DHCP and DNS are good. (It could still be an intermittent DHCP or DNS issue. Does anyone else have problems?)
A temporary solution for me at the mo is to join someone elses open wireless network in my area but it has really bad reception
    What is your prognosis?!
I went looking on Microsoft TechNet (a great resource for problems with MS software) and got this: <http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/ecc10b32-898a-435f-9d5c -01c25fb4d1f61033.mspx?mfr=true>. Do you have a domain or a workgroup configuration? If a domain, is your Mac set up in their AD Users & Computers settings? Also, is RADIUS configured properly? And what are the GPOs on their system?
Also, what kind of Windows server is in use? WinNT Server, W2K Server, and W2K3 Server are all different beasts... and there are different flavors of each, especially W2K3 server.

Until MS has created an RSAT for Win 7 that works with Server 2012 (R2), this is still impossible.  (Win 2008 R2 runs on the same core as Win 7).
However, since your server now has PSv4, you can try
Powershell Remoting and see if it will work with your 2012 R2 Server.

  • Windows Server 2008R2 DC VHD backup wont restore new DC

hello, I have been tearing my hair out on this, what we currently do is
we backup the system state of our main DC and upload this to the cloud (Amazon s3) via a piece of software called Cloud berry system state / bare metal addition. the backup is of course a VHD file.
the software integrates with windows server backup and creates a backup image, it then takes that and places it on the cloud as is, without altering it from what I can see.
I want to test the process of restoring a domain controller so if we have a disaster here in house we can get up and running as quick as possible also making sure that the backups are functional.
I created a VM running 2008 R2 in Vmware workstation 10, I then copy the VHD to the new system but cant get it to recognise it via the windows server backup, whether in windows server backup - restore or via the repair your computer options on boot.
do I need to make the machine identical to the original DC that was backed up as in run DC promo and set ,domain name, FQDN, IP address as the it was on the original?
or do I need to place the VHD file in a certain area?
I have read some blogs and guides and watched a fair few youtube vids but I keep getting the same issue I cant get the server to see the backup VHD system image file.
any help would be most welcome.
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
It is not supported to restore a system state backup onto a different server. System State Backup is for restoring to the orignal device. A similar reply could be found in following thread:

  • Can't send mail via mail

    Greetings O Wise Ones,
The smtp setting are correct. I can receive mail. The mail app was working fine one minute and the next I couldn't send mail. Tried a new smtp and it didn't work either, Created a new login user and new mail. The smtp work with the new user but not with the old one. Any ideas that don't delete the com.apple.mail.plist? If that's the only way. How do I save my mail boxes?

This is happening to my wife's Leopard 10.5.8 upgraded machine right now.
We've been using Apple Mail for years and it works, but suddenly stopped working
and refuses to send mail via any SMTP server at all. It just spins forever and eventually
    complains it can't.
The account is configured to send via comcast (smtp.comcast.net), DSL (smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com), and gmail, as choices. Two of them require authentication, Comcast doesn't require authentication, only that the e-mail be sent via the Comcast cable router, which it is.
I've tried removing the SMTP accounts and carefully re-adding, removing the Gmail IMAP mail account itself in Apple Mail and re-adding, and even moving aside the /Users/<user/Library/Mail folder so it can be re-added. I've even used the sqlite3 index vacuum command.
On my own Mac Pro, 10.5.8, I'm able to send e-mail, but on the notebook mail is wedged up for good and it seems to be associated with the upgrade. I am now re-installing 10.5.8 from the 'combined' download, and I'll see if it fixes it. What a hassle.

  • Cannot get db mail to work via SMTP Relay for Office 365 in SQL Server 2014 on Windows Server 2012 R2

Our company recently moved to Office 365 which mean our on premise exchange server went away as well with the move.  I am trying to configure my new sql server (OS-Windows Server 2012 R2, DBMS- SQL 2014 Std Edtion).  After some searching I found
this article (http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/02/25/how-to-configure-sql-database-mail-so-send-emails-using-office-365-exchange-online-a-walkthrough.aspx) and have followed these steps exactly, but to no avail.  I did some further research
on the SMTP relay I setup and found a way to test it (listed here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn592151(v=exchg.150).aspx at the bottom of the article).  If I drop the email.txt file in the pickup folder, it gets sent out no problem.
I have configured my db email exactly as describe here(http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/02/25/how-to-configure-sql-database-mail-so-send-emails-using-office-365-exchange-online-a-walkthrough.aspx).  But keep getting an unable to connect
to SMTP server error.  I have even tried completely shutting down firewall to see if that is the issue and multiple restarts.  Any ideas how to get this to work on Office 365?

The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 2 (2014-06-10T22:28:41). Exception Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Failure sending mail.).

    Hi,
I followed this blog and got the below error message in the Database Mail Log.
“The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 2 (2014-06-11T19:34:00). Exception Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay
    for [email protected]).”
If you are getting the same error message, you can try the below steps to resolve the issue.
    1. Open the IIS 6.0 management console. Right click on the SMTP server and open the properties window.
    2. Click on the Access tab, click Relay button under Relay restrictions. loopback IP address (i.e 127.0.0.1).
Then the email should be sent out from Database Mail without problem.
    Thanks.
