Mail...why can't it be simple?

I'm trying to setup my iPad to access my Sky e-mail account. I've created the account on the iPad, and everything works great. It checks & downloads my e-mail perfectly. However, it also removes them from the Sky server. The e-mail account is setup as POP, so I thought this wouldn't be the case. I've tried setting it to 'Never' delete the message from the server, delete after 7 days, everything. Yet, it still downloads the message to the iPad, and deletes it form the Sky server.
Net result is, I don't have the e-mail in my Sky account anymore as it's on the iPad. I've tried using IMAP, but found it to be the biggest pain in the a$$ to setup / use.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think I explained myself correctly, so apologies if I've mislead you.
In Sky webmail, it's set to a POP account.
In Outlook, for the Sky acount, I have it set to "Leave a copy of the message on the server", and "Remove it when deleted from 'Deleted Items'". Now, if I go in and download e-mail in Outlook, I would expect it to remain on the server, as I have not yet deleted it.
In the iPad, when I'm setting the account up, it looks up the account but then appears to assume that it's an IMAP account. I get the error "Cannot get mail: The user name or password for 'imap.tools.sky.com' is incorrect." If I OK this, I have the "New Account" window open, with the IMAP tab highlighted. So, I select the 'POP' tab, and change the incoming server host name to "pop.tools.sky.com". I then save this. Everything verifies OK.
e-mails then download on the iPad, which again I would guess is right, as they have not been deleted from the server. So, I go into Outlook and delete some of the e-mails that have just been downloaded and empty Deleted Items. Going back to the iPad, those items deleted from Outlook, and then the deleted items selected, still appear. No matter how many times I refresh it, they are still there.

Why can't we have simple pro rata billing?

I've been a BT Broadband customer for ten years, and I am sick of these sales packages with their prefabricated bandwidth allowances and telephone or TV options. It seems to me that the BT Broadband sales strategists have a philosophy more appropriate to selling fried chicken. It's comparable to "bargain basket, 3 pieces chicken plus chips; bumper basket, 5 pieces chicken plus chips and free drink, family basket, 7 pieces plus chips and relish pack." Hence the insultingly stupid photograph on the BT Broadband web page, of a young Internet TV consumer before a flickering screen, cramming chicken segments into his mouth from a paper basket while laughing idiotically. BT's standard telephone service was never like this. You never found that if you didn't make 2 or more calls a month, you would be charged a non-use fee of £2, as happens with one of BT's Broadband plus phone packages. Nor did you get emails saying you had exceeded your allowance and would be charged a flat-rate fine, but "we know it can be confusing keeping track of your bandwidth usage; why don' you switch to a larger, more expensive package?" I suggest a simple solution: sack all the sales strategists and sell services with simple pro rata billing. Charge customers for what they use, plus a flat rate rental, just like you do with the simple phone service. You keep track of individual usage anyway, so that you can nag people about exceeding their allowances. So why not just charge pro rata and get rid of the sales packages? Or are you totally wedded to tricking people into paying for more than they need?

Welcome to the forum, which is essentially a customer to customer affair and messages do not necessarily reach anyone in BT.
As a fellow customer I couldn't agree more, except to say that it's not just BT. But you have to realise that we're ungrateful wretches, refusing to give thanks for the bountiful gifts of competition that were promised when telecoms and other utilities were thrown to the wolves of big business. The fact is though that when you're sending pretty much the same signals down the same wires, the same current down the same cables, the same gas through the same tubes, you've got to do something to snare more customers than the next firm. What better way than conning Joe Public into believing that your ever-changing, unfathomable price structure, all wrapped up in shoddy customer service from minimally-trained staff with little understanding and even less commitment, is better than anyone else's? If I was a cynic I could bang of for hours.

AS3 sucks !!! Why can't access a simple movieClip ???

Please - it's as simple as that:
I have a stageand there is a movieClip instance called "obiekt" in it. Inside "obiekt" movieClip there are two other clips. One instance is called "z1" and another one is called "z2".
Presume I have a event listener in "z2" what in case of mouse rollover calls a function what is supposed to set "z1" movieClip 'visible' property to true.
But why the hell when I code:
root.obiekt.z1.visible = true;
I get this error:
1119: Access of possibly undefined property obiekt through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.
Jesus - what's the hell - scripting a simplest thing in AS3 requires definig some bloody classes, extending other, importing whatever packages... Only to accesss a movieclip on the stage!!! If I were to do the thing this way I would rather learn C++ not Flash. Flash was supposed to simplify multimedia not making it worse!
Can anybody help me here? It's really urgent !!!

IPhone mail: why can't I select all - mark all as read? I would like that feature.

I have multiple email account in my mail app. None of them have the ability forms to mark all of the mail in folders, specifically Trash, as read.

TS3276 OSX 10.4 e-mail why can I not send?

I am assuming that I cannot send emails from my .mac account any more because my os is too old!!!!! Again!!!! I'm using an eMac (6 years old) and 10.4.11. Is it because iCloud does not support such old technology? i've been in Germany working all summer and it has been a real pain since 30th June when MobileMe discontinued. That should not mean that my e-mail account no longer works.....or does it?

Firstly, did you migrate you MobileMe account to iCloud (at http://me.com/move) before 1 August?
If you did migrate your account you can set Mail up manually to access the iCloud server:

You can also access your mail at http://icloud.com by signing in with your mac.com/me.com address and your MobileMe password.
However if you did not migrate your account its contents have been deleted: you can reactivate the @me.com address (but not the @mac.com version) but you cannot do this on Tiger - you would need access to a Lion/Mountain Lion Mac or an iOS5 ddevice.

If I type a URL in an e-mail, why can't the recipient click on it and go straight to the website in question?

It works fine in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome but in Firefox they have to cut and paste the link into their browser...

I have encountered the same problem with newest Firefox 6. Used to be able to just right click and get a hyperlink for url to paste into e mails. Firefox used to work great, now with the constant upgrades, all the add ons and even basic features are becoming more problematic. wish they would just concentrate on supporting one version to the best of their abilities and quit requiring so many updates that don't work as well. Many friends are migrating to Chrome....I am trying to stay with firefox because it was so good for so many years, but now it seems like constant problems.
Hope they get it worked out soon or I might have to follow the flock in migration.

Why can't I open simple pdf forms from IRS since Maverick upgrade?

Since my ugrade to Maverick I am having several frustrating challenges primarily with Numbers and today tried to open a downloaded pdf irs form and I coninue to get message that Adobe cannot open because it does not support this form or it is corrupted??? Is there something I need to do with Adobe now? I have 10.1.8 Adobe and 7.0.1 Safari. I don't seem to be behind in software updates.

are you able to open your downloaded IRS PDF form in Preview? (It can be found in your Applications folder.) If it is also unable to open it, then perhaps the download of the form was interrupted before it completed.
At the moment, 11.0.06 is the latest version of Adobe Reader which supports Mavericks.

Why can't I delete simple photo files even with admin access?

I'm cleaning my Time Capsule HD deleting some photo files. Most of them were just moved to trash, but when I try to move a specific folder, the OS asks my password saying that Finder wants to make changes. After typing in my password I receive a message that I don't have permission to access some of the items. It dosn't make any sense since I, same account tring to delete them, have copied these files into that folder.
I really appreciate any support.

Are you trying to delete files from your Time Machine backup? Don't do that!! If you have files/photos you wish to delete then delete them from iPhoto or whatever photo application you are using. They will be removed from the backup by the TimeMachine backup system. Your backup is not a simple file it is a time/event dependent organizational picture of your system sort of like a multilayered transparent collage, but if you start pulling random pieces out it will collapse the file system. I just purchased my iPhone, one thing I don't like is that with my Blackberry it allowed me to put an Out of Office reply to my emails. I thought the iPhone was a leader!!! Blackberry and other Android phones can do it.

Why can't I print embedded images in a Thunderbird E-mail? I just get blank boxes for the images.

I am a copyeditor who receives feedback from my clients re: manuscripts I have edited. They will often sent e-mails that include small screen captures from parts of their style guide or screen captures of the proof that is in question (small sections, like a paragraph or an equation, or a header that needs to be coded/styled differently for HTML). Now, I can see these fine in the e-mail, but when I go to print them out for my reference binder, the embedded images don't print.
Mozilla, I need these to print; they are quite important to my job.
To keep my e-mail from becoming too bloated, I save these important style issue e-mails into a folder on my desktop I call "Print out for binder", queuing them for the day I can print a bunch of them out and arrange them according to subject matter.
Problem is, they are useless if they don't include these illustrative screen captures; blank boxes are worthless to the context.
It is not my printer that is the problem. if I receive a Word doc with these screen captures, they print fine. But if I try to print from T-Bird, no go. Help. (I can't save these e-mails as Word docs either, which might solve the problem; the only options in T-Bird are "Save as file" or "Save as template".)
Thunderbird is a powerful e-mail program, and one I have been using for over a decade. Why can't it perform this function? Please help. Or point me to an add-on. I haven't been able to find one that addresses this seemingly straightforward, common, and simple problem.

When you select File(or AppMenu/Print)/Print Preview, do the images appear? Do the images print if you check 'Print background (colors & images)' under File/Page Setup? I don't have any problems printing a message with an embedded image, at least to an xps file.
I devised a workaround that might help, failing a real solution: install [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/unmht/ unMHT] in both TB and Firefox, and then File/Save As MHT in TB. Open the mht file in Firefox, and Print.

Why can't I use my normal mail account for synching notes

I maintain my father's iDevices/computers as he has Parkinsons and does not understand the technology behind how these services work. I need to maintain as simple a configuration as possible. As an example calendaring is difficult as new entries are not necessarily put in the calendar he uses and I have to talk him through how to show all calendars on a regular basis. I can't have his mail on IMAP as he cannot manage his mail and his mailbox fills up. I can't simply pay for storage ad infinitum - my local copy of his mail is about 6 GB and growing.
I have seen several discussions where it is clear that we *must* use an icloud.com e-mail account for synching notes via IMAP, but none of them have explained WHY I MUST USE @icloud.com e-mail. If this is an IMAP based service why can't I use any other IMAP server
I see that it is referred to as an "icloud account" but if I have to enable mail, it becomes an e-mail account, which I do not want as it will be confusing if there is an issue with the main mail server (which I maintain) it will present an option to use the icloud.com e-mail as a valid option to send the mail.
I do not turn on the mail option in icloud.. (only calendar, contacts, reminders and find my iphone). I find it dissapointing that this is now what seems to be a "requirement".

That is absolutely unnecessary, but more convenient to have icloud to sync your notes. I use other IMAPs as well and can sync my notes with google and yahoo and icloud(corresponding email is required in all cases). It is your choice and you can pick your poison, but you will find out that icloud is more convenient after you or him will lose his info few times. There is no requirement, you can even use the group that will not sync with anything "on my device" if you disable all of IMAPS. Icloud is just the one that you can call Apple and normally people prefer to work with Apple support way more then with google's or yahoo's, but that is again up to your preference.

I just hooked this thing up to my computer and was able to load new apps and update via the app store that way, installing them onto the iPad via sync. Very annoying though as I cannot make in app purchases etc still.
