Mail will not send Windows friendly attachments

Although in the menu "Edit" send word friendly attachments is ticked.  It does not send them.  Recipient says it arrives as zipped file that is jammed and cannot be opened.  I've been exporting the pages document to Word and then attaching it.

Hi,
"embedded jpegs" is not good terminology. If the JPEGs are attachments, they are not embedded -- don't confuse embedded with View in Place, btw.
How large a JPEG have you been able to attach and sent? How is the computer connected -- wireless or via ethernet cable?

  • Send Windows Friendly Attachments option in Mail 1.0

I'm troubleshooting for my brother and need to know if the "Send Windows Friendly Attachments" option is available in Mail 1.0. He couldn't find the option.

    Attachments<Send Friendly Window
If the following is not done, the PC recipients will see multiple attachments. (Mail will send the file’s data fork and its resource fork) .......
    Method 1....
    • Menu>Edit>Attachments>Always Send Windows Friendly Attachments
    • Open Mail ....Command-N or click the “New” icon in the Toolbar
    • Type what is required and then..
    • Click the “Attach” icon in the Toolbar
    • Navigate to the file
    • Select “Choose File”
    • Click “Send” icon in the Toolbar or (command-Shift-D)
    Method 2 ...
    • Open Mail ....Command-N or click the “New” icon in the Toolbar
    • Type what is required and then..
    • Click the “Attach” icon in the Toolbar
    • Navigate to the file and check the box “Send Windows Friendly
    Attachments”
    • Select “Choose File”
    • Click “Send” icon in the Toolbar or (command-Shift-D)
    Method 3 ....
    • Make a folder on your Desktop and add files to it (pictures, etc).
    • Control-click on the folder and choose “Create Archive of 'Your Folder'.”
    • This makes a compressed archive of the folder in ZIP format.
    • Drag the resulting archive (it ends with '.zip') into your mail message.

  • How do I send windows friendly attachments in Mail?

I am attaching jpgs to emails and sending them to windows users. They claim that the jpgs are embedded in the email and that they cannot access them. When I look at the email I sent in my Sent Mail folder it looks just like I would expect it to. Yes, the jpgs are visible at the end of the email, where I dragged them. But they are also shown in the header as attachments. "Always send windows friendly attachments" is already selected in the Edit>Attachments menu, so what am I missing here? Why can't these windows users access the jpg files?

I need to make a living.  I won't let mac mail prevent me from making a living even a little bit.  Apples product will not let me do the things i need to do.  I don't have the luxury of trying to dictate to my customers which email product they use, most of them are NOT sophisticated computer users.  They use what is given to them by an ISP.  One contact lost could cost thousands of dollars in lost revenue.
I am not misinformed Apples, product does not do what i need.  That is ALL the information i need, i can't use it.  I don't care, even a little bit, about a "standard" so don't try to inform me about standards and how Apple is right and Microsoft is wrong.
Apples email product is the only product I've used that has this difficulty.  So far it has not been enough of a problem for me to abandon Apple entirely.  I must say that I cannot use 2 of the three products i have from apple for sending business emails.  I don't know how much longer Apple will be able to ignore real world problems their customers face when using Apple products in a very NON standards compliant world.
None of the solutions i've found here are real world solutions, No Zipping of Files, No requirement that attachments be at the end of an email, No requirement for plain text.  No one seems to understand that much of what i have to deal with is a long string of forwarded and reply email.  If i try to make all of this stuff work i'd spend days reformatting other peoples email and the result would be something they would not recognize.
So i'd love to hear from someone that does not have a myopic Apple flavored view of the world and has a real solution.  The only one i've found is spelled "OUTLOOK".  Sorry.

    Dear Dan,
It was from InDesign that I was creating the shared pdfs. I was one of two Mac drivers in a corporate sea of Win users and had to make the change I mentioned in order for the Win users to see my pdfs for review. The difference from what you appear to be doing was that were all on an MS Exchange Server so the files were shared over the company's Exchange Server e-mail system. However, some of these files occasionally went to outside users via regular e-mail and those people had no issues either.
So what I did was tested and worked for years.
You might look at the Adobe forums or Knowledge Base to see if that is a reported issue with newer version of CS. I was on CS2 when I was doing this, and the other Mac driver was on CS3 but had no problems either.
Some Win users I've talked to find a problem opening some pdfs (not mine) in general and found they had to open Reader first and them open the file from Reader's File menu. That most often happened if the client was using an outdated version of Reader.

Re: Macbook Pro 10.6.8 RAM Upgarde to 8 GB
The amount of RAM is not dependant on the operating system. It is all about the model of you Mac.
10.6.8 is the version of OS X that is installed on your system. It has no real baring on the amount of RAM that CAN be installed.
Personally I have never had good luck with Corsair RAM. I have always had good luck with Crucial and Kingston.

  • Mail will not send

Hi, I've had my iMac some time now but have only just set up the 'mail' option. I have definitely put in all of the correct details for all of my email accounts. I am able to receive email but it just will not send out any emails - from any of my 5 email accounts!
When I check the mail connection all is green (except for one of the outgoing servers for one particular email account). So why will it not send from the other outgoing server when it is green?! I use an iPhone and an iPad and my mail on those is fine (using exactly the same settings).
I have updated the software (as recommended by Apple for this particular problem) but it has made no difference. Every time I try to send it says 'Mail will not send with server...'
It's driving me crazy! Please help! Thanks.

This may not help, but a few months ago I was trying to send a message to members of my professional organization, but kept getting a similar message. I exchanged correspondence with Tech Help at my server to no avail. I thought the problem might have to do with the quantity of receoients, so I started deleting a few at a time from the list and resending. All of a sudden, it worked!
I finally narrowed it down to one address that had been preventing the message from going out. After I deleted and exactly retyped the address, I never had another problem. Never understood what had happened.

  • Mail will not send mail, only receive.

I have spent the majority of today re-installing OS X and all necessary updates, music, data after the death of a hard drive. Luckily everything went perfectly, except for the same problem I had with Mail even before the 1st hard drive died. Mail will not send mail, only receive.
All efforts time out and give me this message: "The connection to the server mail.earthlink.net on port 25 timed out"
Mail used to send messages, but stopped suddenly in 2004 and has yet to start again. Any idea guys?! I can't figure it out, under Account settings I have necessary fields filled in: Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is set to "mail.earthlink.net", Server Port is set to 25, and Authentication drop menu is set to None.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    --DANIEL

This is NOT a problem with Mail or OS X. This is an incorrect settings problem - garbage in = garbage out and this information is certainly available at Earthlink's website and Earthlink also provides technical support.
Earthlink has an authenticated SMTP server they changed to long ago.
    SMTP Server: smtpauth.earthlink.net
Server Port: 587 but 25 should work if you are using Earthlink as your internet service provider for connecting to the internet.
Use SSL: Off or not selected.
    Authentication: MD5 Challenge-Response
User Name: Your ENTIRE Earthlink email address.
Password: The account's password - the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages.

  • Updated my phone, now e-mail will not send because server does not allow relaying

Updated iphone 3GS to iOS 5, now my company e-mail will not send "because server does not allow relaying".  I'm just an employee, not an IT type - have no idea what this means and I'm very frustrated. Also infuriated with Apple because THEIR update caused this to happen, yet I have to PAY for their support because I have an older iPhone. Someone please help.

razmee209, thanks for your reply. After signing up for the community, I saw that I wasn't the only one. However, I think I've solved it by looking over the comments in reply to others with this problem.
First, I think the iOS5 update may have made the phone default to IMAP setting. I noticed when I deleted my account and re-set it up that there is a large button at the top for either IMAP or POP. It is already defaulted to IMAP, but my account must be POP.  So this is the first thing to check when you're setting up your account.
Second, I noted some other comments about needing to supply a username and password to the outgoing server even though it says optional. I included those, but got a message that it wasn't recognized (or something like that) and did I want to continue anyway. I told it to continue. After a few seconds, it verified my account, and now everything works.
Hope this helps others having this problem.

  • Mail will not send or receive. It intermittently stops working. Why?

Mail will not send or receive. It intermittently stops working. Why?

I had problems with sending emails from one server in particular, however, I would ask if you have gone to the page of your server and found specific instructions for configuring your mail. My iMAC would not send out emails, so I went to my (Italian) server's page and solved the problem.
It was not sufficient to let the MAC wizard connect you up with your server, and, indeed, MAIL invited me to consider installing the server's email manually. So doing, my problem was solved.
Your server's page should have a list of email programs (cf Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) , with instructions as to how to configure them. Look for the item referring to Macintosh Mail, keep it in background in order to go back to it as you configure your mail.
My problem was that I could not convince Mail to accept the out connection, but when I eliminated my server entirely in Mail's Preferences, I added that server once again: Mail told me that it could not safely transfer my password and asked me if I wanted to set up the site manually. I clicked on manual, and found very precise specifications as to the number of the port to be used, then instructions on how to find the menu for the out mail, with a particular number I had to insert in the drop-down menu they specified.
It was not as complicated as it sounds here, but requires patience.

  • AOL mail will not send

AOL mail will not send from iPad. It goes to outbox and stays forever. Have deleted the account and re-added the account. It test fine and verifies with no problem, but every consequent send results in server error. Accounts work find on iPod touch and webmail. The issue is with mail app only. Any advice? I just configured four of these for the kids. The two that use hotmail have no problems...it's just the AOL accounts. I even added my AOL account...and it too, fails to send from iPad.

I have an AOL account and I do not have the AOL client loaded on my PC. Our ISP is Time Warner Road Runner. iPad is connected via Wifi to Linksys E3000 cable modem router, which is connected to Motorola SB5100 cable modem. iPad will receive AOL mail OK, but will not send. iPad will receive & send OK for Road Runner mail.
Here is how I solved the problem. Apparently Road Runner does not allow to be on their network and use other mail server such as AOL to send. My guess is that is their attempt to stop spam or phishing.
I added the secondary SMTP server, which is Road Runner's SMTP and turned both primary & secondary servers on so that I can use it when I'm not at home. It now works like a charm. Road Runner SMTP doesn't work with SSL, so I had to leave that off for smtp-server.xxx.rr.com, where xxx is the location such as san for San Diego. No User Name or Password necessary.
My guess is that this is the case or other ISP's as well. Hope this helps someone.

  • Mail will not send on 3g but will on wifi

Outgoing mail will not send while going out on the AT&T network(3G) but rather places a copy of the email in the outbox and sends it within seconds after it connects to any wifi network.  AT&T doesn't have a clue about anything to do with the iPhone, I know, sad huh.  The email proxy settings were synced with my iMac that uses the exact same settings with no problem.  I have done a full restore and have the new software installed and have restarted the phone several times.  Any help will be appreciated.
