Mail won't let me add an account

I have tried selecting "add account" and using the + option, and nothing happens. It is working fine in every other aspect, and every other option, including deleting an account, works.

First try contacting your email provider, see if there is a block or other thing you you need to address.
You may also try to add another acct via the EMP directly first, then add the new acct to your Mail client.
You may try creating a new user acct, and see if it creates the new acct.

    I'm having exactly the same problem, but this wasn't the case the last time I added an account a few months ago - might this be as a result of a recent update?

    Hi. I am sorry that you are having issues accessing ePrint Center. What is the error message that you are receiving?  If you have a computer,  try to setup ePrint on the computer and see if you encounter the same problem.  If getting error messages on one browser; try a different browser. If needing to create the account for the first time, here is a link to that page on the site.

    Your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? This is not compliant with iCloud and calendar and contacts syncing won't work.
    There is an unsupported hack which has enabled some people to sync their calendars, but it may or may not be reliable.

    Greetings. Mail won't let me alter my server settings for .Mac. I am attempting to turn off "server authentication" so that I can use my .Mac account via mail through a hotel network, but every time I change the setting and exit the preferences screen Mail automatically reverts back to the previous setting. Ideas?

    Set up a new account for that with account type either IMAP or POP (not .Mac) as you desire.

    Open Mail app and then click on Mailboxes(Left up)>Go down and select your Hotmail acoount and then try Refreshing by pulling down the list.

    I have exactly the same problem. I received an important mail just two days ago and search doesn't even find it. Flagged mail no longer works either, so it's nigh on impossible for me to find my mails to respond to later. It's accurate to say that to me, in general Mavericks Mail.app is no longer a useful mail tool since it utterly breaks my mark-for-later-response workflow.
    What's worse is that this is a massive regression. This all used to work fine. It's somewhat upsetting that I can use my four-year-old Apple laptop to effectively use email and yet my brand new one is useless. With "progress" like this, how can Apple expect brand loyalty?
    EDIT: In case any Apple people read this, I am using a Google Apps mail account.

  • Mac Mail won't send messages through some accounts

    For many weeks I've had to use gmail because Mac mail won't let me go through either my business server or my personal website. I can send if I just use the browser so I know they are working. I've tried various addresses for my out going mail- nothing. I've gone into preferences and disabled those accounts, quit mail, then reenabled them again- still nothing.
    My secretary is having the same problem on her Mac mini. Any suggestions?

    I've encountered this issue too and I believe it may be an ISP issue. When I set up a new internet provider at my home I was at first unable to send business mail from home. Eventually I solved the problem by calling the ISP and they either made an adjustment or had me change some obscure setting on my computer or modem (it's been so long I can't remember exactly what it was). I still sometimes run into this problem when I take my laptop elsewhere. One way to check and see if this is the issue for you (if you have a laptop) is to take your computer to a coffee shop or some other place with wifi and see if you can send out mail using your business address from there. You also might want to check and see whether you are able to send mail to other addresses within your organization, or whether the inability to send email is across the board. I mention that because I seem to remember that I ran into an issue of some servers being unwilling to forward email that comes from outside to another address that is outside. So if you try to send an email from home, using your business address, to an address outside of your business, it may reject it, while accepting an address within the business.
    Hope this helps and please bear in mind that I'm no expert at all.

  • When I use migration assistant it won't let me use my account name that I'm signed in with.  It requires me to select a different user name and then creates a separate account where my files live.  Why can't I select the user name and account name I have?

    I'm trying to migrate my music and pictures over to my new iMac.  When I use the migration assistant it connects to my PC fine but it won't let me use the account name and username that I have created as the admin.  It requires me to create a new user account - so then I have two separate accounts to log in to which i don't want.  How do I get it to let me use the current account that I have to move my files to?

    Migration Assistant creates a new account and migrates all the information you have requested to that new account. There is no way around that. However once migrated you can move the data to the account you want to. Here are some instructions for doing so:

    hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo
