Mail won't send mail when in wireless mode but works fine when wired

Ok, this happens all the time. I have several pop email accounts, all of which work fine when I am hooked in to an ethernet cable, but Apple Mail won't send any of my outgoing mail form any of my accounts when i'm am working wirelessly.
I always get a message like:
Cannot send message using server smtp.name.net
I try to switch servers and I cycle through all of them, getting them same message, followed by things like:
The server response was: 5.1.2 Bad or missing RCPT domain k39sm5757680wah
Any advice.

Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
You may use “network locations” to more easily switch between network settings if necessary, as described here:

  • The iTune Remote App has stopped finding my iTunes library when connected to wifi from my main router, but works fine when connected via second wifi router on the same network (different SSID)

    I'm running iTunes Remote App from a couple of iPhone 5's and a first generation iPod Touch. iTunes is running on a PC - Windows 7. My home network runs two Wifi Routers, each with a different SSID. I've had no problems with the Remote app running this set up for the last 8 months but recently the App can only find my iTunes library when the iPhone/iPod is connected via one specific router, when connected to the network via the other router, no iTunes library is found. I'm also running an Apple TV and it's the same as the iTunes Library, only visible via the one SSID.
    Everything else seems to work fine when connected via either router, eg Internet on the iPhones (definitely via wifi)
    I've tried renewing the lease on the iPhone wifi connection, restarting everything.....several times.....
    It used to work fine, this only seems to have been a problem in recent weeks

    It turned out to be the firewall settings on our router. Her machine was sending traffic that our router interpreted as a DoS attack and blacklisted her Airport's MAC address. That's why it would work fine if she switched to Ethernet.

  • OSX Mail won't send mail from outbox

    Hi.
    I'm having a problem with Mail not sending messages from my out box. Everytime I compose a new message, it ends up in the outbox. I used the connection doctor and my pop and smtp connection is fine. I tried deleting some of my old email messages. I've repaired permissions, ran Diskwarrior even move my old email from a holding folder, deleting the old mail account, created a new account, transfered the old email back into the new account. It still doesn't send email from the out box. I know my pref settings are correct because I also have a G-4 desktop running the same OS and it sends mail just fine. I'm stumped.
    Any info will be of great help.

    If no error message is provided, the Outbox mailbox may have some corruption.
    With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Outbox.mbox.
    The Outbox.mbox folder represents Out in the mailboxes drawer which appears only when a message cannot be sent and is shared by all accounts.
    Delete the Outbox.mbox folder and empty the Trash. This will delete any messages contained in the Outbox mailbox so before doing so, you need to move any messages contained in the Outbox mailbox to the account's Drafts mailbox.
    Launch Mail and a new Outbox.mbox folder will be created automatically by Mail within the Mailboxes folder.

  • 10.8.2 mac mail won't send. reset modem and router and it worked for one day and has stopped working again

    My imac is running 10.8.2 mountain lion and has been since it came out. In the last couple of days the Mail program has stopped sending. Incoming is OK. The message I get is that " my sender address was rejected by the server". We have 3 macs running Mail [2 of them running mountain lion and 1 running snow leopard] that have the same issue. Our other 2 Macs using Eudora are working fine. WHY ??????

    Mail - Prefrences - Accounts - reinput all the settings you see. I believe one or more is corrupt, re-inputting them will reset them. You can also try Apple's suggetstions in:

  • Yahoo business mail stopped being pushed to both of my iMacs, but working fine on iPhone.

    I recently updated to 10.9.2. And I can see the messages on the server, but why can't I see them in mail??
    I've tried deleting the account from my preferences, and adding it back in but still nothing. My normal yahoo mail still is working fine.
    For business mail, I pay for POP forwarding.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I'm SO frustrated with this Yahoo! email integration... I'm seeing the same issues as you:
    1) PUSH email stops pushing
    2) "Sent" email messages ("whoosh" sound implies all is well) via Yahoo! are not actually being sent.
    This would be bad enough if when sending email the client actually told me there was a failure... but it turns out it's been a completely transparent problem. All appears well, but isn't.
    The only solution I seem to have found is to delete the Yahoo mail account in the Settings/Mail area, and then re-add it through the Settings/Mail UI. After doing this I find that Push notifications and the ability to send email via Yahoo! mail returns.
    .... The problem is that - based on previous experience - it won't be long before the client, or Yahoo (I have no idea where the problem really lies) will quietly stop functioning again.
    I'm also a Yahoo! Plus email subscriber, if this has anything to do with the issue. Any non-plus users out there running into this issue?
    Apple / Yahoo / AT&T... PLEASE fix this!

  • Verizon mail deleted from server is not deleted from IPAD2 but works fine on Android

    I have both an Android phone and an IPAD.  This Android (RAZR) and my previous one (Droid2) worked fine.   Mail deleted from the server is also deleted from the phone.  Deleted from phone would delete from server.  Worked great.  On IPAD, when setting up the Verizon mail account, it defaults to POP and I can set it to delete from server when removed from IPAD.  However, mail deleted from the server is not deleted from the IPAD and so I have to remove it manually (a second time).  Why does it work on Android and not on IPAD?  Settings on Android appear to also be for POP.  Can anyone help with this?  It's too hard to believe that with so many people using IPADs, that this is such a problem.   I've read that Verizon isn't supporting IMAP, but how in the world is the Android phone working?

    Any mail service POP downloads a copy of the message to the phone. It would then need to be deleted from the device itself. What you are referring to where its deleted in both places is an IMAP type email service.

  • My MacBook Pro (mid 2010) won't startup correctly in my admin account, but works fine if I use the guest account...

    My MacBook Pro (mid-2010) suddenly stopped working when I was overseas, but I managed to fix it when I returned back to the States after I reformatted and erased the disk, then installed Yosemite. I lost most of my files but didn't really care, though I noticed that some pictures from iPhoto had survived and were in the Trash folder.
    I thought I could copy/paste them back into iPhoto, but it wouldn't let me since they were still in the trash. I started getting an error message for EACH PICTURE saying it couldn't be copied because it was in the trash, and when I realized that I'd have to click "ok" 644 times (once for each picture), I tried to restart, then shut down, and eventually forced a shut down by holding down the power button. This is where the problem started...
    After trying to startup again, I was able to login to my admin account, and the desktop image would load, but I'd get the spinning rainbow wheel and the computer would remain frozen like that from then on. I tried to repair the disk (there was nothing wrong), and even re-installed the operating system again, but still the problem persists. BUT, if I login with my guest account, everything works fine.
    I'm guessing it has something to do with it somehow being frozen on those error messages for those 600+ pictures, but I have no idea how to fix/unfreeze it. Any tips or suggestions?

    SATA3 is backwards compatible with SATA2.  That is not likely to be your problem.
    Based on what you have done, I suggest a reinstall of the OSX.

  • Time Machine fails to backup HD and stalls computer when backing up to external HD (Western Digital WD5000MT) when using Firewire 800 but works fine using USB

    I have a mid 2012 MBP (MacbookPro9,1) running Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  When I start a Time Machine backup to an external Western Digital HD (WD5000MT) connected using a Firewire 800 cable, my open programs stop responding and in general my computer freezes up not allowing me to open activity monitor or the console utility.  I can't even shut down or restart my computer and must hard boot to reset.  Though removing the firewire cable that goes to the external HD can sometimes get my system working again.  However, the WD external HD also has a usb port and when I connect it to my computer via a USB cable, Time Machine seems to backup my system fine without stalling my computer.  This same external HD worked fine with Firewire 800 using my old late 2007 MBP running snow leopard.  I should note that my brother has the exact same model WD external HD and he also had issues with the firewire port on his MBP running mountain lion.  I have run the disk utility checking for disk/file permission errors and the drive itself seems fine.  I initially formatted that drive as ExFAT but while troubleshooting reformatted to HFS+ and still had the same issue.  I tested using a different firewire 800 cable but still had the same issue.  Can't think of anything else to do.  I don't have another firewire-compatible device to test if it is the HD vs the firewire port.   I would prefer to use the firewire port for quicker transfer speeds but I'm stuck with USB for now.  Any suggestions?

  • Why won't Words With Friends open in Firefox but works fine with IE?

    I am trying to redirect the user to different website with username and password. I am using the code above and passing user name and password as parameters.
    This works fine on IE when i run the code on my local machine.
    But when I push the code live this does not work, and user is not able to login.
    It is working fine for other browsers.

    This is a problem specific to ASP.NET 4.0.  I would either recommend upgrading to .NET 4.5 if possible, otherwise I believe you might have to create a custom browser definition. There is a bug in .Net 4.0 for browser detection.

  • Gray screen on start up, but works fine when hard disk in usb

    Im using a Mac book pro which is around 2-3 years old now i think. Anyway, a few days ago it froze while using it, when i restarted it i just got a blank grey screen (no spinning wheel or apple logo) and it just stays there.
    I replaced the standard hard drive with a samsung 840 EVO ssd 250gb a few months back and it has worked fine since.
    I tried all the setup/safe mode keys during start up and it still gets stuck on the same blank screen.
    I took it to the "genius" bar at the apple store and the guy that served me said it was a problem with the hard drive and told me to wipe it and reinstall the os. I've just taken the hard drive out and connected it via usb port, using the connector provided with it, to try and get into setup mode this way, however the laptop now starts and works perfectly fine with the hard drive connected this way. I tried connecting it internally again and got the same problem with the grey screen again.
    Im very annoyed the so called "genius" at the apple store told me it was a fault with the hard drive when it is clearly functioning properly and almost had me erase it and loose all my things. Very poor customer service and even poorer knowledge on his part.
    Has anyone had a similar problem or have an idea what it might be?

    one possibility is that your MacBook Pro’s internal SATA cable could be faulty, since your SSD works well externally but doesn’t work well internally.

  • New MBP Retina wifi is awful - even with bluetooth off! But works fine when using Ubuntu 13.04

    Hello - I've recently as of last week - purchased a new Macbook Pro Retina.
    I've dual booted it with Ubuntu 13.04.
    The wifi is terrible when logged into the OSX.  However, works fine in Ubuntu! I've tried turning bluetooth off as suggested in many forums, but to no avail.
    Any idea - my first Mac too, so I'm trying hard not to give up and just return it for something else!

    Was the OS X wifi terrible before or after you installed Linux?
    Linux is not a Apple approved operating system for running on Mac's.
    The open source community has a different philosphy than commerical companies like Apple or Microsoft, it might be that your OS X wifi drivers was surplanted with those from Linux and thus OS X can't recognize them and defaulted to a more basic mode of a slower speed.
    Apple doesn't provide drivers publically for Mac's, so it's some third party hacker, with quesitonable skills and non-communication with Apple, that's providing the drivers. So there is a problem there, which I've found out about myself when installing Linux on older Mac's.
    I advise Linux and other non-approved operating systems to be run in a virtual machine program instead.
    Install Windows or Linux into VirtualBox
    Unfortuntly to fix your system and uninstall Linux, which is designed to be installed on generic PC's, is to erase your ENTIRE boot drive, including the hidden EFI parititon where Linux installs it's swap file.
    I suggest you take your machine into Apple and tell them what you did.

  • ITunes freezes when syncing with iPhone, but works fine with iPod?

    It's a bit of a long story with my iPhone/iTunes problem. In late July, my iPhone stopped syncing properly. It's an iPhone 4. Basically, I tried to add more photo albums to sync onto my phone, something I have done before. It began syncing, then notified me that it couldn't sync 'x' amount of photos. It was a pop up on my phone screen. I tried deleting my cache in My Pictures, still errors. Then it seems like everything possible has just glitched when I sync as weeks went on. It wouldn't sync music. The songs would appear gray and failed to play. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it doesn't. Now, iTunes freezes when it reaches the end of the sync and I have to ctrl+alt+del to close iTunes as it stops working.
    I took my iPhone to apple, and she ran diagnostics and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. She told me she couldn't run diagnostics on my iTunes because it's a Windows laptop and she's "not trained to work with them". She said everything seemed fine with my iPhone and asked if it was possible if I have a virus. I've had no other problems with my laptop whatsoever and I have a decent virus protector that we pay for monthly.
    I have tried restoring my phone twice, with a backup. I tried again WITHOUT a backup, and still, it freezes when it syncs, some songs are gray on my iPhone and won't play, and photos refuse to sync, period.
    I then tried syncing my dad's iPod with my iTunes, and it worked. I also tried syncing my iPhone on my dad's laptop, and it worked. So something is clearly glitching between specifically my phone and my iTunes. I'm avoiding uninstalling iTunes at all costs because I don't want to lose play count information as the majority of my playlists are created this way. I thought iOs 7 or iTunes 11 (now 11.1) would fix it, but neither did.
    Can anyone determine what the problem could be and how to fix it?
