Mailto URLs in erec email

I have a requirement in SAP EREC where I require URLs in the email body to mimic the same URLs in the attached PDF. In the registration document sent to candidates the Smartform contains a text element with text set as a URL. The code snippet below then sets the actual URL to the text link.

When the letter is generated this is fine in the PDF but in the body of the email the actual URL value (i.e. mailto:[email protected]) is displayed.In the IMG Settings "SSF_PDF" is set as the format for the output channel "Email". Is it possible to override this behaviour?

The business requirement is that when the cover letter is emailed to the candidate the email body generated from our custom Smartform needs to contain 'mailto' links to various departments within our organisation.
These links need to take the form of Link1 in the text but the URL is actually 'mailto:[email protected]'. I use the code snippet in the original post to create this in other Smartforms but in the body of the email the text displayed is mailto:[email protected]

Sending an email via mailto: URLs

Hi all,
is it possible (and how! :) ) to send an email from within a JAva application using the 'mailto:' URL in order to use the locally installed email client?
What I need is to be able to use the local mail client to send an email with an attached file and a return receipt from within my app.
Any suggestions?

Since you want the return receipt, then you have to have a place for that return receipt to be returned to. If you are just "bouncing" a mail off of another application, you do not have a return path to recieve the receipt.
The "bouncing" mail off of the local client is not doable with the mailto--if you try a mailto link it opens your local client with a pre-addressed mail (if you are lucky).
You need to use the Java Mail API.

Sorry, my previuous suggestion wasn't clear. Put the PublicKey.txt on the web, then send an email that says
Click Here for the public key. In the body, i.e your email URL is:
Email me

How can I hide/rename a URL in an Email ?

This is probably so easy I should've learned this years ago. Anyone know how to paste a URL into an Email, then change what you see to a slogan or something else ?

I used to be able to click on an URL in my email program ( Eudora) and it would open up in Firefox..it doesn't do that now, since Firefox upgraded itself

since there has been a recent upgrade with Firefox, I can no longer click on an URL in my emails to go check the websites

Do you get an error message from Windows?
Sometimes the Firefox installer messes up the registry settings for how to handle URLs in other programs. One common way to solve the problem is:
(1) Start up IE and have IE make itself the default browser
(2) Go back to Firefox and have Firefox make itself the default browser

HOW do you rename a URL in an email? Please list all the steps starting with opening a new email in Mail. I clicked on Add Hyperlink...in the Edit menu. I put in the URL. All that happened was that it put that whole URL into my email. Then I typed the name that I wanted to rename the link to in the email and highlighted it. Then I clicked on Add Hyperlink again and put the URL into that box. It LOOKED like the rename was an active link in the email that I sent to both myself and to my husband's computer. NEITHER email was able to access the web site using what looked like the renamed link. There has to be a way to identify the URL...AND "translate" that into the renamed link. All that Add Hyperlink does is let you type in the URL. That does not make it show up as something else. What am I missing here?
So would you mind listing ALL the steps in detail, starting with opening a New email? What do you do to indicate what you want to rename it to?

When you are composing an email in Apple's Mail.app email program, if you paste in a full URL, including the http:// at the beginning, it will work as a clickable link in the email you send. However, it will not be clickable in the window where you compose the email, only in the email that your recipient recieves.
Test it. Type a full URL into an email in Mail.app, for example:
http://www.apple.com
It won't appear to be clickable in that composing window. But send that email to yourself. You'll see that in the email you receive, that link will be clickable.
Note: This is somewhat dependent on the email program your recipient is using. Some will block links from being clickable. That's not something you can control. But most email programs will allow it to be a clickable link.

Hi - we have a new link for newScale for Request Center and it is https instead of http. Now when we add a link to an email to the request center, it changes the https link back to the http link which doesn't work. Anybody have any ideas?

Unable to insert like to url in an email

For some reason I am no longer able to insert a link to a url in my emails. Why would this be?

I was using the insert link icon. The insert window pops up, I pasted in the url, but the <Insert> button does not highlite. After several attempts, I finally figured out that there must be a character string limit for the url address. When I entered a shorter url address, it worked.

Creating a mailto: hyperlink when the email has a dot before the at ( @) sign

I have a FM 7.2 document that includes an email with a dot in the first part:
[email protected]
When I distill the file and afterwards create the PDF the result is that the mailto includes only the part of the name that is after the dot [[email protected]] --what can I do to fix this? I have to be sure that I'm getting working email hyperlinks in the PDF of the email address in its entirety.
If it matters any, the OS is XP Pro.

Here is my guess: The "message URL mailto:[email protected]" hypertext marker is either not present in your FM file or is not processed by FrameMaker (which could happen if the syntax is incorrect, the marker type is not hypertext or Acrobat Data is turned off). And you are using Acrobat or Reader 7 to display the PDF.
Starting with Acrobat and Reader 7, there is a preference of "Automatically detect URLs from text" (Edit > Preferences, General; in version 8 it's called "Create Links from URLs"). When this is enabled (default), e-mail and web addresses present in the text are interpreted as links when the PDF is displayed (without any links defined in the authoring program). Acrobat 7.x interpretation of e-mail addresses is incorrect -- the presence of a dot, an underscores or a hyphen disturbs the address (so, as in your case, [email protected] is interpreted as [email protected]).
This was fixed in Acrobat/Reader 8, so if you display the same PDF in that environment the interpreted link will be OK. Nevertheless, I recommend adding/checking the hypertext link in FrameMaker, so that a "real" e-mail link will work as expected with all versions of Acrobat/Reader.

Inserting hyperlinks (http: and mailto:) in text/plain email JavaMail

I am trying to write some very lightweight email classes based on the JavaMail API.
I regularly get emails where the header shows a MIME of text/plain and yet there are both http: and mailto: hyperlinks in the message body. I would like to emulate this, but I've looked all day for how to do this. Please could someone point me in the right direction?

If the body is text/plain, then per definition there are no hyperlinks in the content.
The e-mail client can (and usually does) format URLs as hyperlinks when it displays that content, 'though. You could probably use regular expressions to recognize anything that looks like a URL in the text and format that accordingly.

Too long url error when emailing thread with replies

There is apparently a bug in the "email thread with replies" feature.
I tried emailing myself this thread and it returned this error:

No surprise it did either. Look at what it was trying to send.

It's an web application made in Oracle ALBPM and which uses JSPs to entering data. The insert is made on the database object inside the ALBPM studio:

I read the link you posted, but I'm still confused. I did the following:
SELECT FIELD, LENGTH(FIELD), LENGTHB(FIELD)
FROM TABLE
I was expeting to get a larger value in LENGTHB(FIELD), but the values are equal. I can only insert 2000 characters from the application, so, I was expecting a LENGTHB 2x greater than LENGTH(FIELD).

HT201303 Has anyone experienced being a victim of GNU Emacs Api Emulations hacking thru URL's - Feeds - Email - Redirect - Data Scrabling and more? We are unable to stop them because they are super users. They come back and do more damage. Help Please.

We have been compromised within our businesses from an empolyee that was terminated with GNU Emac Api enulation program that has infiltrated all of our brand new Apple Computers. We made a decision to move to Mac's this year because of all our businesses being internet based and we are in several different platforms that require many different passcodes, email address, bank accounts, etc. It is not one seamless system that would address one email, password, bank account, etc.
Eacy time we change one segment of our business unit to move to the next one to fix, we go back to check the previous one that we changed and they have already been in the accounts and changed them so that we have to redo them.
The information is so broad and wide that the only way I know to ask this first questions - has anyone had this happen to them? We have seeked many avenues with law, experts, reformating our 2 momth old systems 2-3 times each and start over. They are the super users of this program and we can not get them out by changing passwords, accounts, etc. They have everything we do and make sure they keep changing it as we work on the next segment. They have cost our small business thousands of dollars already.
I am a victim of something that even the local forenic authority is stumped because they don't know where to start. We are not a banking instutition or 100 million dollar company to get the help we need. We don't want to find hackers like they have done to us, we want to get them stopped and get us back on track to start getting our businesses rebuilt.
Lots of stuff, but WE ARE BEGGING for HELP.
Apple Support today spent 3 hours with us on the phone and our suppot representative was awesome, but they also said it was big and we need to reach out to the Apple community to see if they heard of anything like this crime. They are in the URL's, RSS Feeds and ghosting everything we do.
I was told by our local Mac support that this was done by someone that was highly sophicated and they did not know many people that could do this type of damage. I can't image that someone in the Apple community would not know of someone that can assist. The one security company we contacted was around $25,000 to fix this aweful crime.
We just want them stopped and put in jail so we can go back to business before it destoys us completely. They even installed emacs on all of our Iphone and androids. WE are being taped, video recorded and eery key stroke is recored. They are only taking us down in middle America.

Thunderbird puts a hidden "mailto:" line into every email address I put in the body of my message. It screws up the end processor on the mail server I maintain

I maintain a club email list by sending plain text commands to it such as:
subscribe members [email protected]
(If you're old enough you'll have an idea of what the web master is still using).
Thunderbird has started attaching an invisible "mailto:" in front of each of the email addresses in my commands and the remote server rejects them. I see these as hot-links in my outgoing sent mail folder.
I have turned off HTML processing and tried to send text only but the hot links are still there in my sent box copy of the plain text message.
I POP my mail for a reason, more so than just my own convenience.
What is going on?

Thunderbird allows you to disable HTML composition, which is where I thought this was occurring (see image).
When I emailed myself plain-text email addresses in the body of the email, they would arrive with the address portions within the message body highlighted in blue and hot linked. If you hover the mouse over them, a link shows up in the lower left corner of the mail window showing the "mailto:" tag prefixed to the email address even though it is not visible in the message body.
I found no settings within Thunderbird that would allow me to turn this off and, unless this is an "undocumented feature" of the program, it is incredibly difficult to understand why this is happening or if this is the cause of the problem I'm having with maintaining the web mail server data base.
In a fit of revenge, last night the server manager program, "majordomo", stopped speaking to me at all. The web master is on the same domain so I don't know if I accidentally killed the host or he just hasn't responded to my emails about this problem yet (he has a day job and a life).
