A forum is not a right place for a step by step tutorial. Anyway, my advice is to look at:
(i) The database character set: use AL32UTF8. You can theoretically use IN8ISCII, which would give you space savings, but as both Java and Windows support Hindi (actually: the Devanagari script) through Unicode, you should use Unicode. This way your database will be prepared for other languages, including other Indian and South Asian languages.
(ii) Look at character length semantics as in:
CREATE TABLE tab ( col VARCHAR2(20 CHAR), ...
As each Devanagari character occupies 3 bytes in AL32UTF8, working in terms of characters instead of bytes, may be easier.
(iii) Make sure your JSP pages are properly declared as encoded in UTF-8.
(iv) Be prepared that you can store only up to 1333 Devanagari characters in VARCHAR2(4000). Declaring the column as VARCHAR2(4000 CHAR) will not change this. Therefore, for columns longer than 1333 characters, use CLOB.
(v) I do not really know the Devanagari script, but I can imagine that because of its structure, i.e. syllables combined with vowel marks, you should not shorten words blindly using the SUBSTR function as a syllable without its following vowel mark may make no sense. Anyway, verify the rules associated with shortening words and implement more sophisticated substring functionality if necessary.
(vi) A JDBC connection between an AL32UTF8 database and UTF-8 JSP pages should not need any extra configuration for Devanagari.
(vii) Prepare instructions for your users regarding configuration of browsers. IE6 and Firefox seem to be already preconfigured for Devanagari. You may need to make sure that the client operating system is also configured to support Devanagari. On US or European versions of Windows 2000 and later, you may need to check the appropriate option in Control Panel->Regional Settings for the necessary support files to be added to the system. Mangal and Arial Unicode MS seem to be the fonts to use with Devanagari.

  • How to Connect Oracle Database 10g with using Oracle Dev 10g

    Hello there,
I have problem with connection on database 10g using oracle dev 10g on the same server.
The message is: TNS... bla..bla... it means not connect.
    Please advice
    Regards
    Leksono

    just simple
copy the from the database instance the tnsnames.ora
file's entried into developer folders tnsnames.ora
file and you can connect to DBFirst of all there is no such error as TNS... bla..bla... it means not connect.
there are several errors for the tnsnames, post the exact error
And it is not recommended that you copy it from the database's tnsnames file, it doesn't always work.
to configure the tnsnames.ora you have 2 ways, manual and GUI.
For GUI use the Net configuration assistance from your Devsuite home and for manual you need edit the tnsnames.ora file usually under %ORACLE_HOME%/NETWORK/ADMIN
You need to specify the connection string name, the hostname and the database SID name. It should look something like this.
    <connection identifier> =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host name)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = SID)

  • Move all data from one database to other using oracle expdp and impdp tool

I need to move all of the data from one database to another. For that I am using oracle expdp and impdp tool.
I have the full database export dump file. I moved that dump file to my other database.
Now when I try to use impdp tools it gives lots of error regarding path mismatch, user not exists, role not exists.
As my datafile path of source database does not match with the target database path , also the users are not there in target database. I dont want to create all the tablespaces that in my source database as there are 82 tablespaces. Is there any way by which I can move my all data without using remap option for tablespaces or users and grants.

The FULL parameter indicates that a complete database export is required. The following is an example of the full database export and import syntax.
The user must have the privielge of EXP_FULL_DATABASE
    expdp system/password@db10g full=Y directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=DB10G.dmp logfile=expdpDB10G.log
    impdp system/password@db10g full=Y directory=TEST_DIR dumpfile=DB10G.dmp logfile=impdpDB10G.logGO through below linkfor more details...

  • Unknown Database Connector Error using Oracle stored procedures

We are using an Oracle database for the first time with our Crystal Reports, and I am attempting to modify a report to use a new stored procedure.  When I attempt to add either the new procedure, or to add a new copy of the existing procedure, I get an error message:
    Unknown Database Connector Error
If I remove the existing procedure first (leaving no database objects at all), and then attempt to add back exactly the same stored procedure that I just removed, I get a different error message:
Database Connector Error: '42000:[Oracle][ODBC]Syntax error or access violation'
Neither of these errors is particularly helpful.  The stored procedure in question works as is.  I can run it in SQL Developer, and it also executes within the existing report if I run it.  Unfortunately, it needs to be modified and given a new name, so I need to be able to add the new stored procedure to the report.
The operating system is Windows XP Professional version 2002 SP3.  The Oracle version is 11g (11.2.0.2.0).  Crystal reports version is Crystal Reports 2008 (12.3.0.601).  The stored procedure returns a refcursor.  The ODBC connection is created using the "Oracle in OraClient11g_home1" driver.  When I test the connection, it tells me it was successful.
If it matters, the report is a Saba report.
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem is and how to fix it.  If the solution is to upgrade the Windows version, that is under the control of our tech support and there is no information available as to when it will happen.

Yes - I had used the Set Datasource Location to point to the correct ODBC connection.  I get the same results with an existing report as I do with a new blank report.
I have no idea where the service market place is.  Honestly, I find the entire SAP site confusing.  I found one reference to the PAM guide, but when I clicked on it, it insisted on a userid/password, and apparently the userid/password I have for this discussion group doesn't pass.  I did find, eventually, a document called "Crystal Reports 2008 Service Pack 3 for Windows - Supported Platforms".  When I read it, it tells me that it's compatible with Oracle 11g, generic ODBC, and Windows XP SP3, which is what we are using.  I'm hoping that this document has equivalent information to the PAM guide.

  • Delete entire database i m using oracle 11g enterprise version

    Hi,
I want to delete entire database from my laptop, actually I have installed 3 databases Oracle11g, I want to delete all of them . I have deleted it from registry but also its not totally deleted from my system.

    Hello,
I want to delete entire database from my laptop, actually I have installed 3 databases Oracle11g, I want to delete all of themIn fact there are 2 things, the Databases and the Software.
If you intend to DROP the Databases, and if these Databases were created by DBCA, you may use DBCA to DROP them. If the Databases were created manually you have the DROP DATABASE statement as follow:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_8009.htm
About the Software, the answer depends on the Oracle Release.
In Oracle *11.1*, OUI let you deinstall the Oracle installation.
In Oracle *11.2*, you need to use the Oracle De-install Utility (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • Justification for using Oracle Text vs Other Search Tools

    Hello,
Can someone give me good cause (justification) for utilizing Oracle Text over other tools out there that are not tied directly to Oracle?
Apparently it is possible to identify metadata within text and do keyfield and keyword searches this way with other tools, but I question the accuracy, speed, or value in terms of data relationships with this approach. I feel the relationships belong in the database along with the indexes but can't convince anyone of this.
Has anyone experience working with Oracle Text where relationships help to drive the search and can give me good cause to this approach?
    thanks

Tools like Autonomy have fantastic searching functions, far in excess of what we get with Text. What they aren't very good at is the database side of things. So if your prime concern is to be able to search free text documents on your file system using a baroque range of filters then Text is not the right choice. But if you want to join the outcomes of free text searches with structured data in database tables or if the text you want to search is stored in database tables then using Oracle's built-in functionality is the better approach.
From your post I'm not sure which scenario fits your situation more closely.
    Cheers, APC

  • Using Oracle as an IP Address Managment Database

Can an Oracle database be setup to document and manage IP
Adresses. Our Software team built a database for my group to
document addresses but, it does not perform any math features
based on subnet mask. Any suggetions on where to look for IP
Address Database creation with an Oracle database?

    Dear Stefan
(Please send the King of Iceland my regards)
We have just undertaken a similar project - but in reverse - i.e. synchronising an LDAP server from Oracle.
Our challenge was a little simpler in that we could use triggers to instigate an LDAP call on update/delete/insert.
We originally tried using the Oracle JVM in conjunction with the Netscape's LDAP JSDK, but this proved too flakey, and we have reverted to calling an extproc which inturn calls some java code to update LDAP.
Working the other way would be more complex and I'm not sure how you could get LDAP to invoke a command to update Oracle.
However, if you managed the process from within Oracle you could maybe use LDAP groups to maintain a list of those users that were in sync, and those that required synchronising.
    Good luck

    Hi ()
My problem is accessing the database with sqlplus system/manager @oralin, on page 55 of the Linux starter kit. Do you notice the space here, between system/manager.. and.. @oralin. I think it needs to be there.
    Is your database named Chestnut?
And for Startup, why are you using init.ora? the book mentions initoralin.ora on page 43.
Your configurations are different than recommended in the book. I'm not sure if any of this helps, but maybe you can help me. When I try sqlplus system/manager @oralin, the response is: can't connect to oralin.sql.
According to the book, I need to use @oralin at the end of the command in order to see if I have properly configured the server for MTS, a multithreaded server.
Any ideas? I hope I can help further.

    Dear user13295317,
    Here is the error explanation;
    Oracle Error :: TNS-12533
    TNS:illegal ADDRESS parameters
    Cause
An illegal set of protocol adapter parameters was specified.
In some cases, this error is returned when a connection cannot be made to the protocol transport.
    Action
Verify that the destination can be reached using the specified protocol.
Check the parameters within the ADDRESS section of TNSNAMES.ORA.
Legal ADDRESS parameter formats may be found in the Oracle operating system specific documentation for your platform.
Protocols that resolve names at the transport layer (such as DECnet object names) are vulnerable to this error if not properly configured or names are misspelled.Hope That Helps.

  • Can I use Oracle database Standar Edition One?

In what versions of database can use Oracle Lite, to my central Database?
Can Oracle Lite support Oracle Standar Edition ONE?
In the official documentation only mentions Enterprise Edition and Standar Edition
    Thanks in advance

Just quickly viewing oracle's datasheet on the product, I don't see why you couldn't. I don't think it is supported to work with Oracle Mobile Server though. Also, the maximum CPUs supported are 2 on Standard One. Depending on how many mobile users you require, this could be a bottleneck.

Asking someone to violate such privileges is a serious offense and could get that other person's organization banned from all support and all their support contracts cancelled.

    Hi All,
I have doubt regarding the usage Oracle Database Express Edition in Development environment. I am not sure weather I can ask a non technical question here or not. Pleas forgive me if I have done any thing wrong.
I am working in an IT company where we take up projects outsourced by our clients. As part of our current project we are making some modification to a web application used by an institution. Our client is using Oracle Data Base standard edition. Due to budgetary constraints of our Company we can not set up a Oracle standard edition data base in our development environment.
So would it be illegal if we use  Oracle Database Express Edition in our development environment?  We can guarantee that  only our internal development team which comprise a maximum of 10 people will have access to this development database and this development data base will never be opened to our Client for their business purpose(Who have their own Oracle standard edition in their environment). As part of the project we delver only table DDL script and stored procedure to our client and they put it in their environment. The sole purpose of a internal Express database will be development only.
Could some one please tell me if it would be violation of license agreement if we install Oracle Database Express Edition in our development environment.

    Hi Paul,
Actually I have already gone through the Oracle Technology Network Developer License Terms for Oracle Database 11g Express Edition . But was not quiet clear about the content. It says in the license terms that "We grant you a nonexclusive, nontransferable limited license to use the programs for: (a) purposes of developing, prototyping and running your applications for your own internal data processing operations". Does the term "your application" includes an application we are developing for another company. Since the Express database  is installed in the development environment only and is not opened to any one else not even for Our client it definitely falls under the term "internal data processing operations" right?
