Make iPad app from InDesign for private distribution

I want to make an iPad app (or similar) with inDesign that can be distributed via e-mail to a limited number of people. This is for the purpose of spreading information that isn't of interest to people in general, and the app cannot be avaiable through the AppStore or similar. (Yes, I know I can use iBooksAuthor on the Mac but I want to utilize InDesign's full functionality with portrait/landscape layouts etc.)
If not an outright app, can InDesign do something landcape/portrait with interactivity that can be read through iBooks or the Newsstand?
Thank you!

Ok, solved it.
Instead of requiring directory wide authentication, I'm only requiring authentication to access the .plist. Therefore the user navigates to the page(unrestricted), taps the download button, which makes the call to the .plist (restricted) and the user is then asked for credentials. When the user successfully authenticates, the .plist becomes available, enabling the download.
The .htaccess file looks like this:
<Files enterprise_viewer.plist>
AuthType Basic
  AuthName "Authenticate to Download"
AuthUserFile /home/file/path/.htpasswd
Require valid-user
</Files>
I have a few concerns about the overall security of this, so if anyone has more of a background I'd appriciate a chat, but at least this works or basic security.

  • What are the requirements for publishing an App for private distribution, not sale.

I need to create an App in English and 4 other languages for private distribution to individuals. What are the requirements for doing this please? I currently have a just a Single Edition license. Am I right in understanding I need a Cloud subscription and an Apple Developer subscription also?

My client desire is to only make their accessible to paying members requiring a sign–in before download. Does this fall into a private distribution deployment.

When you go to Starbucks, you'll need to first go to Settings on your iPad and choose Network. You'll see ATTWIFI as one of the available networks. When you click on that to select it, you should be immediately sent to AT&T's sign in page. You just need to check the box that says you agree to their terms and conditions and then hit the Connect button and you'll be online. One warning, however. If your Starbucks is anything like those in Manhattan, be prepared for really slow wifi. It can be a real pain waiting for pages to load sometimes.

  • HT4889 how do i transfer my itunes account (with all my music, photos and ipad apps) from a macbook pro to a new macbook air

how do i transfer my itunes account (with all my music, photos and ipad apps) from a macbook pro to a new macbook air?

thanks but exactly how do I do this.  I tried setting the new macair up using migration assistant but for some reason not everything has come through.  I bought a thunderbolt cable to improve the transfer rate.
Now my question is how do I transfer the iTunes folder.  I have authorised the new macair for iTunes and am within the 5 computer limit.

No. Apps are associated with Apple ID with which they were purchased.

Is it possible to buy an iphone 5s and an ipad air from US for use in Zimbabwe?

iPhones sold at less than full price are locked to a wireless carrier
and in the US you are agreeing to a 2 year contract with that wireless
carrier. Such iPhones will only work with the wireless carrier to which
they are locked, and only that carrier can unlock the iPhone.
Be advised that Apple sells 2 types of iPhones at the same price-
one is contract free meaning the iPhone is locked to a wireless provider
but no 2 year contract is required, and the other is unlocked meaning it
can be used with any wireless provider that uses the same bandwidths
and protocols as the iPhone supports.
If you purchase an iPhone from the US, the warranty will be valid only in
the US. Should a problem arise, you would have to personally bring the
iPhone to Apple in the US or send it to a friend/relative in the US to take in.
Apple does not accept international shipments for evaluation nor will Apple
ship out of the country after repair. A US purchased iPhone will not work
with LTE/4G outside of North America. But your iPhone locally to avoid
    these problems.

  • How to prevent ipad apps from being stored in the iCloud and how to bring them back to the iPad

I have an iPad Mini Retina with 128GB of storage.  I purchased about a dozen apps and it gets stored in the iCloud and I don't know how to access them on the cloud storage.  Plus I have many apps from me itouch that I use and they are also stored on the iCloud.
How can I prevent further apps that I buy from gettting transfer to the iCloud?
How can I download my existing apps that I purchase and that are from my itouch that are stored in the iCloud into my iPad?
How do I access my iCloud storage from my iPad?
    Thanks.

You make it sound like apps are disappearing from your iPad and uploading to iCloud. That's not how it works. Maybe somebody (or you) deleted the apps and you don't realize it.
You cannot prevent apps from being stored in iCloud. That is one of the reasons for using iCloud. It will store all of your purchased apps and you will be able to download them if you delete them, or if you buy another device that you want to use the apps on.
If you have apps that are in iCloud, just go to the Purchased Tab in the app store, tap on the Not on this iPad button at the top. Look for any of the apps that you want to download and then tap the cloud icon in order to download them to the iPad. You access your iCloud storage in the purchased tabs of the different stores or in the apps themselves. Any data that is being backed up in iCloud is on the device in the corresponding apps and you don't need to access that data in iCloud. It's at your fingertips already,
Purchased apps do NOT count against your iCloud storage. If you have 60GB of apps, they do not take up the alloted 5GB of free storage that you get. The app data would count against the storage but not the apps themselves.

  • IPad app from Flash

Hello, you need to know if is possible to develop applications for the iPad 4.2.1 IOS from Flash. I have found contradictory answers before buying a developer license wanted to make sure.
    Thanks.

    Fletch3 wrote:
could the problem be with the ipad then? even now I'm getting the msg 'flash required' to view this item.
That should be totally impossible if you obtained the apps from Apple's app store.
Even in those cases where you really are trying to access a Flash video (on the web), that's not the message.  I don't remember Flash being identified.  I recall a vague message simply saying that the video can not be viewed.
If the iPad has been jail-broken, that's most likely the cause of your problem.  If it has not been jail-broken, the only persons that can help you are the Apple support personnel.

  • How do I transfer a paid iPad app from one iPad to another?

I am not sure where is the best place to post this question, but here it is anyway:
The school I work in has 37 iPads split between 2 mobile carts.  For a variety of reasons, the staff wands the iPads divided up by classroom.  No problem.  The problem is that they would like the paid apps on the ipads moved around so the grade level apps wind up in the appropriate classrooms.  This is logical.
My problem is I have no real idea how to free up iPads from one iPad so that they are available for transfer to another ipad.  I use Apple Configurator to acquire paid apps from the Volume Purchasing Program and download/install them initially to iPads.
One knowledgeable individual gave me this advice:
"If you placed the apps on the ipad using Apple Configurator, then you should be able to attach the initial iPad to AC, unsupervise the iPad, and the apps' licences should be available for redistribution.  Then connect iPad #2 to AC, turn Supervision on in AC, then add the specific app to iPad #2."
    - - - - That sounded too good to be true.  I tried it and found out that that process does not free up app licences (at lest when I tried it).  What I think is the problem is that I don't know Apple products and iOS well enough and missed steps.  (I am from the Netware/Microsoft AD/Windows computing environment.)
Could someone help an old grunt out and possibly provide a detailled set of steps how to transfer paid app licences from one iPad to another?  I appreciate any help.  Thanks

I can't answer your question and chances are that you could be here a long time before someone that can help will chime in. So from one old grunt to another, I think you would be better off posting your question in this forum. These folks should be more familiar with the type of thing that you are seeking help with.

  • How to output from InDesign for best photocopy results?

    Hi,
I need to output a color newsletter created in InDesign to be printed in grayscale for b&w photocopying. Because the newsletter has a few photos and other grayscale images, the InDesign file needs to be printed to my printer at a lower lpi for the best results to be photocopied.
The original is in color because the newsletter is primarily shared digitally. However, the client has a need to print copies on their photocopier for other distribution needs.
How can a file be EXPORTED or SAVED or PRINTED in a way that I can play with the lpi output in order to find the best results with their copier?
    Thanks.

Does this need to be copied "off the glass" on this copier, or does it have a printer interface? Copying halftones is always a problem, and you don't normally get to set the screen frequency for a desktop printer (some postscript printers might allow it) -- in general they only have the abilitly, due to low resolution limitations, to output a very small number of actual frequencies and the odds that you'll find a screen that doesn't create an interference pattern onthe copier are pretty small. IF there is any way to adjust the lpi value, it will be in the printer driver.
If the client's copier has a printer interface, that's the way to go. Make a grayscale PDF (or if it's a monochrome machine, just send it the color PDF and see how it prints) and print, rather than copy, so you aren't re-screening the images.

  • PDFs from InDesign for print then web?

The workflow is supposed to be: we simply take the PDF files which were created from InDesign and then sent to our printer, and give them to our web service company who has our online edition finished by morning. But we're upgrading our photo processing for the print edition, which results in overly bright photos for printing on newsprint. With a 48 page tiny-town newspaper, it would be a major problem to replace all of the photos in the layout with specially processed ones for web. But we need to have PDFs for our web service company that contain, richer, higher contrast photos for web.
Is there some trick other than manually processing new photos for every page and manually re-linking each one on every page? Maybe CS4 has some feature that makes this easy, i.e., automated web version of an InDesign layout, i.e., links to an alternate folder of photos just for a web version?
    CS2 / Mac OS 10.4.11 / various Mac hardware

RGB-workflow is just a way to do things... You can do it in at least CS2, CS3 and CS4 softwares, propably with earlier versions too. It basically means that you adjust your images in some wide RGB gamut, like AdobeRGB, then save them without making CMYK conversion and place them to indesign layout as RGB images. When you export your PDF, you make that RGB-CMYK conversion to all images at once.
Normally people can use same adjustments for both web- and print images. When image is adjusted well, icc-profile that will be used for RGB-CMYK converion will take care of fine tuning like compensating midtones and Total Ink Limits...
In InDesign CS4 you can use Photoshop PSD images with adjustment layers. If you really have to make some adjustment that would be nice to get rid off in indesign, you may toggle visibility of those adjustment layers in InDesigns Object Layer Options tool.
I still suggest that you try to fix your workflow so that you don´t have to make any extra adjustments to images for printing after you have once placed them to indesign layout. It should be possible, millions of publishers do that every day...

  • Exporting graphic from InDesign for Web

    Hi Everyone,
My goal is to create some large buttons for the web. I probably should have done this in another program, but since I'm a beginner to Adobe and still learning, I drew them in InDesign, the program I'm most educated on. I created an embossed box with rounded corners and added on some product photos and text.
I copied and pasted the boxes onto a transparent background in Photoshop, the exported them for Web as PNGs. They came out very pixelated. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks for any help!

Copying just takes a scrap of the actual data from InDesign to Photoshop in your workflow. Hence you're getting pixelated output. The best way is to work in Photoshop use Pen tool to make curve corners and then place Photos and add text layers.

  • How do I block an iPad app from hacking my Time Capsule WiFi?

I have a 1st gen Time Capsule. I use it for my Wi-Fi signal in the house. A kid with an iPad has an app that keeps hacking my Wi-Fi password every time I change it. Is there a way for me to block that app from hacking my Wi-Fi? If so, how?
Again, it is a 1st gen Time Capsule, and my computer is a mid-2007 iMac. I use WPA2 Personal for my wireless security. My password has letters, numbers, and special characters, and is not easily remembered. I had to write it down in case I need to enter it on a new wireless device, yet this kid just hacked right in.
Any and all helpful info will obviously be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    A couple of things.
The advice on the passwords above is good. FING recomendation was great as well - It's a great APP.
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fing-network-scanner/id430921107?mt=8
However, there is another possibility - Does he know your Time Capsule's Admin password? With that he can use an app to quickly get your WIFI password and get on the network. Have you tried changing the admin password.
If you've installed this app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/airport-utility/id427276530?mt=8
It will ask you for an admin password to access the Time Capsule. If you're using the same password each time for admin access then he can get access to the admin rights and there are ways of getting the password from there, quite easily.
P.S. Change the password on your iMAC in case he has accessed it and installed a key logger. (There used to be physical keyloggers that would be discreetly put inline between the keyboard and the computer but I don't think there is one for Macs and with the advent of Bluetooth keyboards it's a moot point)

  • Ipad Apps not available for original Ipad

I own an original Ipad. I am a photographer and have discovered that many apps are not compatible with my Ipad but only the Ipad 2. Apple should address this issue and require app designers to make them compatible for both the original and Ipad 2. The original Ipad owners made the Ipad 2 more successful and Apple should support us being able to purchase all apps for our Ipads. This is only fair.
I own two Macbook Pros, one new Mac Pro, two iphones and two ipads. I am a great supporter of Apple and they need to support us.
    Hugh Adams

...Apple can make the app developers do whatever they want. They can require all apps be compatible with both ipads. But I think you know this.
Yes, in fact many developers already complain that Apple already forces them to modify their apps.  Note how many developers complain that their apps are rejected, thus requiring changes to the app.
But Apple also wants to sell more iPads and iPhones.  So Apple could also force developers to make a camera based app only work with camera based devices.  Oh, wait, they seem to already do that.   Or perhaps it only applies to "photographers". But then, you would think that a "photographer" would want to sell their non-camera iPad1 and get an iPad2.  (I'm a photographer and I know I want an iPad2, although I'm quite satisfied with my iPad1.  But then, I also prefer to edit my pics while sitting at my computer rather than the iPad since, as a photographer, I already have an array of editing tools on the Mac and PC.)
Don't blame Apple for making a better iPad that actually will fit your needs better.  Go get an iPad2 and be happy rather than whine and try to prove you're right, which you are not.  (And if you're going to complain that you can't afford it, then as anyone else will tell you, sell your iPad1.)
(And you of course will want the last word, so I will end here since it does not appear that you are not being open minded and refuse to even consider any other viewpoint.)
