Make photoshop action that saves file with specific filename

Is there a way to make a photoshop action that does a SaveForWeb, but adds text to the original filename when saving?
For example, if I open a file called "coverPage," and I want the action to do SaveForWeb as a JPEG, can I have it save  as "coverPageWEBVERSION"?
Thanks for your time and help

No this is one thing you will need scripting for.
They really should have introduced some modification to the Save dialog that allows file naming additions or modifications triggerable within actions. But they never did.
As a workaround, Bridge is a good tool for renaming, because naming convensions can be SAVED and quickly applied to groups of files. Not often known fact  - On a mac there are also OS scripts that can do the same thing. There is a script called 'rename items' hidden away somewhere. This is accessable by Control or right clicking on a group of files, and going through the 'automate' submenu

    Is there a way to save a file with a unique filename using some data a user has entered (name, for ex.) that will fire when the user clicks a Print button? Attached is a file for reference.

    Yes, I'm getting close. With this
    var
    vTargetName = Page1.dateStamp.rawValue + " HSS Foot & Ankle for Patient " + Page1.First_Name.rawValue + " " + Page1.MI.rawValue + " " + Page1.Last_Name.rawValue + ".pdf";
    var
    vCurrentName = event.target.documentFileName.toString();
    if
    (vCurrentName == vTargetName)app.alert("Thank you. Your form has been saved.");
    else
    app.alert("There was a problem. Your form has not been saved.");
    I do get an alert when the PDF is saved. But if I modify the folder js to say var vPath = "/c/HSS/ instead of var vPath = "/c/HSSSave/ I don't get the alert "There was a problem." Do you see an error in the else condition?

  • How do I create an action that saves files as JPG in the same folder?

    Hey folks!
    So I'm sitting at work, trying to optimize my workflow a bit..
    What I'd like, is a droplet, that will allow me to open PSD's and save them as JPG in a new folder inside the original folder.
    Like the Image Processor that makes a new folder named 'JPG' but without opening the dialog box and having to press buttons.. Drag-drop-done

    Hope you can help

    Use scriptListener to create the code for adjusting the hue.  find the line in the code that denotes the change in hue replace that value with a variable that stores a random number:
    var rangeForRandomNumber = 200
    var offsetForRandomNumber = -100
    var randomNumber = Math.random() * rangeForRandomNumber + offsetForRandomNumber

  • How to make an action that creates a composite onto one image from a non specific source??

    Hi
    I'm trying to create an action, But having some trouble. I have a fair knowledge of CS4 and actions but this one is tricky.
    Basically i need to create a new document out of a folder full of images. These images need to have their opacity reduced to 40% and their blending mode changed to Colour burn. They then need to be copied onto the same canvas with a transparent background.
    Most of this is fine. But i need to make the action that is not image specific. So not the one i used to record it. This is for a mid process that is going to go between various other programs before display, and the hole process needs to be automated. When i hit pay or go through file-automate-batch it uses the images that i recorded with.
    I realise i havent explained this terribly well but any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    You may have to look into Scripting to achieve something like this.
    You could ask in the Scriptimg Forum
    Photoshop Scripting
    But maybe it would suffice to insert the Menu Item
    File – Scripts – Load Files into Stack
    into the Action and then iterate through the Layers with [ or ] and reset the opacities and Blend Modes – but as Actions would not be able to change the number of repetitions of the operation conditionally a custom Script would still seem preferable.

    Hi all, once I set an action like this:
    and with the batch i can always choose the destination folder, time by time.
    But I tried to do a similar action that saves a png file, but I can't leave the "in: " empty, it always fill with a path.
    How can I do?
    Thanks a lot!

  • PS CS4 save action that prevents file clobbering?

    Hello:
    Does anyone know of an action step or event script that will alert you to the existence of a file when using non-dialog save commands in actions?
    Scenario:
    Suppose I have a "Save" action that points to a specific folder, I then save an image titled XXX into a folder called IMAGES. Then either intentionally or accidentally I get a new (i.e. completely different) image called XXX that I edit and resave to IMAGES via the action. Right now, CS3 and CS4 actions with suppressed save dialogs do not alert you to the existence of a file in the target location. It just saves over it.
    I am using function keys to trigger script steps since I have different routines based on image content so batching a directory is not preferred.
    The ideal solution would be an "if file exists in path" step.

    You will need to write a script to check if the file already exists.
    Install the script listener plug-in. Record you save step and check the listener log file on your desktop.
    You can then do a if ( File("fullpathtofile").exists ) { alert ('dont do that'); } else { ... do regular save here ... }
    Another option would be to use a unique file name generator so you don't ever clobber a file.

  • Photoshop Action - Multiple Save As

    Hi all.
    I am trying to make an Action to save out multiple versions of a file, that can be applied to numerous different files, all in different destinations.
    How can I edit and remove the "IN" parameter in the Save As steps of the actions?
    I have tried the "insert menu item" but even when clicking on SAVE AS it only records it as SAVE (with copy).
    I see there is a default SAVE AS PHOTOSHOP PDF in the Production set of actions, but it has differet settings to what I need.
    Any help is appreciated

    Hi all,
    The problems detailed first is a problem I am also experiencing and it maybe a case that I am asking too much but I really don't think so - Here is the issue:-
    I create the product information pages for my website (www.formyoffice.co.uk) and each product has an HD image, a std image, a section link image, and a thumbnail image, and these are sized to square images in pixels to the following sizes HD=750, STD=350, Section=150, Thumb=75 pixels.  I am hoping to set up an automated process that once I have finished modifying the image given from whoever (suppliers/manufacturer/customer/showroom photo) and I have saved this HD image, will then run a batch and adjust this image to the required size AND save this image for use.  I have completed an "Action" process and this works well but have an issue with the filename that the new image is then saved as and this is making this automated process pointless.  So if my original image was called, for example "OSCO-Test-HD-1.jpg" my process required an action to deleted ".jpg" and then re-save with addition "-350" for STD, "-tna" for Section, and "-tnb" for thumb but the problem is that the filname will not update to the actual file it is looking at and keeps modifying the filename so new file "Wibble-Test-HD-1" will get changed to the following "OSCO-Test-HD-1-350.jpg", "OSCO-Test-HD-1-tna.jpg", and "OSCO-Test-HD-1-tnb.jpg" instead of saving as the correct extensions "Wibble-Test-HD-1-350", "Wibble-Test-HD-1-tna", and "Wibble-Test-HD-1-tnb".
    Am I asking too much here??  The filename does update itself but I can not get the action to use the current original file that it will modify to create these other images, it jsut keeps using the filename used when creating the Macro action process and then updates this.  Any help will be greatly appreciated and I think this will help Tigo88 as I think this is the same issue.

  • Making a photoshop action open a file

    Hello all,
    I need to make an action that begins by importing a PDF file with certain settings.  I'm trying to do this by recording myself opening a random PDF with those settings.  However, the action always records me opening THAT specific file from that specific location.  But I need my action to open any given PDF (I plan to make a droplet of this soon) with specific settings.
    How should I do this?
    Thanks!

    PS' behavior toward EPS and PDF have changed. One forum user was able to record an open action on a test TIF, and then unleash the action on a folder of PDFs, and have it behave like you're remembering. I could never replicate this myself. The best I've come up with is to open all the PDFs with one action (this works), and then process them out with another.

  • How to create PDF from text file with specific layout?

    I wanted to create the pdf from text file in specific layout - Landscape orientation and JIS B3 Page size while at Adobe Acrobat Pro.
    In past, I could do a right click on a text file (desktop area) and select print to print out the document into .pdf BUT only if I set the Adobe PDF to Landscape and JIS B3 Page size BEFORE.  And I could only do 15 text documents at once.
    I wanted to see if I could do the create the pdf from text file with specific layout in Adobe Acrobat without having to go to Control Panel to preset the Adobe PDF to specific layout at every time.   I would have to set Adobe PDF back to normal layout after I'm done with these pdf print outs.  I do lots of pdfs in normal layout.  Sometimes I would forget to do that.
    So, How do I do that?

    No such luck.  It would output the contents in letter size even in JIS B3 Page layout at MS word.
    Is there a script or action where I could set the orientation and page size before creating PDF on these text files?

  • How to save file with the "/" symbol in the name?

    Hi,
    I have Adobe Professional 8.  I need to save files with names that include the symbol /, but Adobe interprets, for example, A/88/6, as file name 6, in a folder named 88, in a folder named A, and sets up new folders to accommodate that.  I cannot substitute another symbol as I already have thousands of pdf files in a database using the / symbol, and I need them in the same folders.
    I would very greatly appreciate any advice,
    thanks,
    Mo.

    Thanks.
    As I said, I'm pretty ignorant about these things.  I wouldn't know how to begin using a "hack".  All I know is that I was able, for over a year, to save .pdf files directly from my browser on several computers, and use the forbidden "/" symbol in every file name.  After saving the files, Adobe will happily open them, and allow me to edit and re-save them, although I now see that it will not allow me to "save as" them under a different name without removing that symbol.
    I may not be tech-savvy, but I can state that everything I have said here and above is entirely accurate.  I would be happy to open a dropbox account to show you countless .pdfs with the symbol "/" in the name.
    This is honestly not that big a deal.  I greatly appreciate this discussion, and you have inspired me to become slightly less computer-ignorant.
    Hope you all had a great New Year.  I am still recovering.
    Cheers,
    Mo.

  • Writing a report file with specific information

    Hi, all:
    I need to write a text file with specific information in it. I'm going to copy it into Excel, so the easier the format, the better (perhaps CSV format?). I've never done this before, so here's the method I need to capture the information from:
         public void step() {
              greenColorStorage = new ArrayList();
              magentaColorStorage = new ArrayList();
              System.out.println( "==> Model step " + getTickCount() );// Checking step #
              for (int i = 0; i < soldierList.size (); i++) {
                   Soldier s = (Soldier) soldierList.get (i);
                   s.step();
              Collections.shuffle(soldierList);
              System.out.println("Shuffling collection now.");
              dsurf.updateDisplay ();
              System.out.println("Model.step() finished.");
              for (int i = 0; i < soldierList.size (); i++) {
                   Soldier s = (Soldier) soldierList.get (i);
                   if (s.getMyColor() == Color.green ) {
                        greenColorStorage.add(s);
                   if (s.getMyColor() == Color.magenta ) {
                        magentaColorStorage.add(s);
              if (magentaColorStorage.size() == 0 || greenColorStorage.size() == 0 ) {
                   stop();
         }In this method, I need to capture this information: There are soldiers on the Green team and on the Magenta team. I need to know how many there are originally, how many in this time step, at what time step the model stops, and how many of the winning color team are left when the model stops. How do I do this? If you can point me to a specific thread that shows how to write a report file like this, I'd be grateful, since I couldn't find one when I searched. Otherwise, I'd be grateful for examples. I'm in the middle of doing some research, and I have the feeling that I'll need to write report files in the future, so if you'd explain any code you provide, I would be quite grateful--I need to understand what I'm doing as well as simply using your code so that I can really learn what I'm doing when I do this again. Thanks very much!

  • Copy a file with same filename using XI - module experts please help!

    Guys,
    Felix Jeyareuben had an excellent blog on how to copy a binary file with XI.
    /people/sap.user72/blog/2005/07/15/copy-a-file-with-same-filename-using-xi
    It is a shame by the way that such a simple thing has to be this complicated in XI, but that's another question...
    So after I created the EAR file and successfully deployed the modules on our XI server, I got the following file adapter error, when I was trying to use it:
    Sender Adapter v2727 for Party '', Service 'BS_TA_XI_DEV':

    - 2006-11-30 14:10:00 EST: Processing started
    Can you give me any clues what could have gone wrong?
    This is the first module I deployed so I might have messed up something simple, but I cannot figure this out.
    Also how can I debug this?
    Your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks a lot,

    > Moorthy,

    Do it like in the mentioned blog, but don't do any mapping. That will be fine.

    Check your EAR if there are any libs from the adapter framework and delete them if necessary.
    After deployment check in your visual administrator if your EAR is available.
