Make VI or LLB Writable

Hello, I have an LLB with VI's from an equipment vendor. I just upgraded to LV2012 and when I open the LLB or the VI's inside they are recompiled for the new LV version. When I exit labview it asks if I would like to save changes, i.e. the recompile, which I would. If I click "Save" I get a "you don't have permission to write to the containing LLB" message. I've also tried to mass compile the LLB but get a "CompileFolderCore: error 8" which is a permissions problem I believe. If I right click on the LLB in Windows 7 the "Attributes: Read Only" box is NOT checked. How can I change the permissions on this LLB or recompile?
Thanks,
Ed

I have seen third party library files locked by default and they release it for the different version so when you upgrade your whole library some of the vi's at the top level gets compiled but the low levels vi's are not. So check about the library file and also check your third party whether they have any release for the latest version.
The best solution is the one you find it by yourself

  • Can I make the printed document writable?

    Hi everyone,
Is there a place in RH9 where I can set an option so that I can save the Word file using its original file name? I want to preview the printed document (Word) and make minor adjustments before I make a PDF.
I have gone through the folders and set them all to be writable--although that doesn't seem to matter; they go right back to being read-only!
    Thanks in advance,
    Mary

To be honest it is always best to generate the Word file separately first anyway, make any edits and then save it as a PDF.

  • View size of files that make up an LLB?

Does anyone know if there is a way to view 'by size' in the LLB manager?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm not sure about rtexe, but normal exes are since about LabVIEW 2009 really disguised ZIP files inside an executable wrapper, unless you select the "Use LabVIEW 8.x layout" in the Build options. So I wouldn't be to surprised if they use that in LabVIEW RT executables as well.

  • I want to use Connect to Server an FTP account, but make it writable

I have an FTP account through my .com.au domain.
My aim: to use the large online storage 'cloud' as if it were any other readable/writable folder on my computer.
I set up Automator to automatically connect to the server. However, the server is readable only. How can I adjust it to make this Server connection writable?
Also, I know Cyberduck can let you mirror a folder on the FTP with a local folder. Can I somehow use this to update such a mirror every 30 mins or whatever?
Any other solutions, please let me know.

You cannot write to an FTP server via the Finder. You can only read.
You'll have to use another FTP client to write.
Also, either use SFTP (secure FTP) or don't pass any sensitive information to your 'cloud.' FTP passes usernames and passwords in the clear. I imagine the data transfer is unencrypted, also.

  • Make /sys/devices writable for normal users

I'm trying to make a file user writable in /sys. The goal is to have a non root user do this:
    $ echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/eeepc/camera
Is there a nice solution to make this file writable?
    Thanks.

    Only by 5 seconds
Good advice about using the same group though. I forgot about that.
I do this with ubuntu and arch, sharing the same storage/data partitions. in ubuntu the default user are uid/1000:gid/1000, and since in arch i have uid/100:gid/1000 there are no problems with permissions (since i'm in the same group), unless permissions are altered to something else than directories/755, files/644.
[edit]of course im wrong about this. didn't think it through! i have the same uid in ubuntu/arch but not the same gid. Of course *that* works, but if you share gid, 775/664 permissions is what you need[/edit]
Alternative (which is generally a good idea), is to create a special usergroup for the users you want to be able to modify the files, and use chmod to give that group write permission to the filesystem, and add the users you want to that group.
Aah, yes, but when creating new files, you should set the "sticky bit" on the containing folder, because you will still mark the files with your umask (username:primary-groupname), unless "sticky bit" preserves the gid that the folder has (the secondary group created to share files). That is my limited understanding though.
The simplest (not the safest) solution is just to be a (primary) member of the same group, namely "users". That'll require virtually no modifications, but "just work" in most cases.
[edit]wrong again. as i said earlier, 775/664 permissions is what you need to share gid[/edit]

  • Old name and password won't work when networking to new Win7PC.

I have a name/password problem when trying to network a new Win 7 PC via a new Netgear 2200 Router to a MacMini.
It networked 100% OK with the old XP System and old Netgear Router, but now when I click on the PC icon that shows up in Workgroup the old password doesn't work and there is a different popup menu that won't allow the old name and password.
Interestingly the Mac Mini still networks with the XP laptop using the old pupup box with name and password.
Netgear say it's not their problem - even though they list 'mac compatible' on their box.
The PC manufacturer (Acer) say Mac issues are outside of their free technical support.
Apple support said the Macmini was 'out of warranty'.
So I'm stuck using a USB stick or email to transfer files from one to the other!
Please help, I need that network connectivity back asap.

    Option 1
If you've enabled root logins, log in as root and promote the other user to an admin.
    Option 2
Recover your entire system from the last Time Machine snapshot taken before the damage was done, if you know when that was. Afterwards you can restore any data that has changed since then from a later snapshot. If you’re an advanced user familiar with the shell, there may be a quicker fix, but I prefer not to get into that.
    Option 3
Back up all data, then boot in single-user mode (command-S at startup.) When the text stops scrolling, follow the prompts to make the boot volume writable. Then enter the following command very carefully:
    rm -i /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
You should get the following line of output below what you entered:
    remove /var/db/.AppleSetupDone?
    If you do, then enter
    y
    and press return. Then type
    reboot
Press return again. The system will boot into the Setup Assistant, as if you were setting it up for the first time. Skip the prompt to transfer information. Create a user with the same name as the old admin user. Log in and test. You may need to recreate your other user accounts, if any. Their files won't be deleted.
    Option 4
If you're not comfortable with any of the above options, get someone more experienced to help you. One way to do that is to make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store. It's a free service.

then i did some thing and it went thru, now i am trying to install the OWB again i am getting the same error and i was browsing net past 2 days for a solution but i din't get one
while installing oracle i have not made any notes, that was my mistake
Please suggest me the possible solution or the Document which can guide me
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
the problem is the logfile for the installation. Every oracle installtion writes a log file with this name in a predefined directory. Make the directory /tmp writable for oracle and extend the disk quota at least 60 MB.

  • New to Macbook Pro, External hard drive question.

I've just made the swirch to an Apple Macbook Pro from a PC.  I've used the PC since the early 90's and all I know is Windows.  However I'm finding myself more at home in Lion.  My question is probably a simple one so I'll get to it.  I have a 1TB Seagate Mac/PC external usb powered hard drive that I've used on my PC for all my iTunes media, 95% of which was purchased from Apple (who the **** knows if that matters but information could be crucial and besides I saw someone else say that in a post, only he found his music, whatever that means, anyway....).  Now I have added all files to the library of my iTunes on the Mac while still running them from the external hard drive and everything transferd smothly (see not a complete idiot) but for some reason I can not write to the hard drive.  If I try to update an app, delete a fie, rename or otherwis change the file in itunes I get an error claiming I don't have permission to do so.  When I look at the drive itself, sure enough it says I may read only.  Now the drive was formatted and used on a Windows PC prior to today.  What do I need to do on the Mac end to make it read and writable (is that the right word?) so I can enjoy updating my apps or plain getting rid of some old things?  Thanks in advance for any help.
    New Mac User

Your external harddisk uses the NTFS file system which is common for Windows PCs.
Mac OSX can read from NTFS harddisks but cannot write to them.
For full access you need a third-party helper tool like the free NTFS-3G or Fuse4X or the commercial ones from Paragon or Tuxera NTFS for Mac.
In the long run and when you don't need a "Windows-PC-compatibility" of the external harddisk anymore you should consider reformating/repartioning the external harddisk using the Mac OSX native partition and file system formats. (GUID and MacOS Extended (Journaled)).
But such an action would delete everything that is on that external harddisk so it is not that easy.

  • How do I get Finder windows to hold their settings?

Reading in other discussions, I see some folks are having problems with desktop icons moving around. My desktop icons are fine and stay put, but my Finder windows continually rearrange themselves to whatever random design Lion wants to give them.
They will not retain size, toolbar on / off, arrange by / sort by, icon size or grid spacing etc. For a while I thought I had the problem sorted by leaving the main User window open when I shut down at night, but this 'solution' didn't hold either.
I have worked my way through the View options, tried resetting defaults etc etc, but either there's nothing I can do about it (bug?) or I am missing something simple.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. TIA

I have this problem too, and it's maddening.  My latest effort fo fix it has been to make .DS_Store read only using the Terminal.  This will work for directories that you never alter; I did it to my home directory.  If you do it to directories that change, the results will be undefined, because the Finder will be unable to write changes to the .DS_Store file reflecting the position of the new files.
To do this, open Terminal in /Applications/Utilities, and then type:
    cd "/Path/to/directory/to/fix"
Replace the path with the folder you need to fix.  If you're not sure what it is, you can just type "cd " (without the quotes, but note the space after the letters 'cd') and then drag the folder you want to fix onto the Terminal window.  Then press return.
    Now, type:
    chmod 444 .DS_Store
Make sure you include the period at the beginning of the .DS_Store name.  Press return.  This will effectively lock the .DS_Store file and prevent the Finder from screwing it up.  Your icon positions and window settings will be fixed in place until you make the .DS_Store file writable again.  To do that, repeat Step 1 above, and change Step 2 as follows:
    chmod 644 .DS_Store
That will return the .DS_Store file to its original state and undo the changes you made.
I have tested this only on my home directory, which never changes.  Doing this to directories to which files are added and removed will result in undefined behavior.  It will not damage your computer or your files, but Finder windows for that directory will not behave in a predictable fashion.

  • Users Accessing All Files - 2 Accounts

    Hi everyone,
My wife and I share the same iMac for work. On occasion, when one of us tries to to open a file created by the other user we get a -5000 error, which is "access denied". I know about setting up a shared folder, but I would like the entire drive and its contents to be accessible by both user accounts, which are both admin. Can this be done? I have seen posts warning about changing permissions on the entire drive, so I'm being cautious since this machine is used for work.
    TIA,
    Mike

    Here's what I recommend:
    1) Go to System Preferences -> Accounts and create a new user with Admin privileges.
    2) Log out of your other accounts and into the new Admin account.
    3) Open up System Preferences -> Accounts, and uncheck "allow user to administer this computer" for both your and your wife's accounts. Read biovizier's testimonial below on why it is not a good idea to use an Admin account for everyday use.
    3) While in the Admin account, go to /Users/Shared, and make a new folder inside called "sharefolder" or something similar.
    4) Apply Access Control Lists (ACLs) on your new shared folder to give both you and your wife full read-write access to everything placed inside from this point forward. This can be done by launching Terminal from your new Admin account and entering:
sudo fsaclctl -p / -e (this turns ACLs on on your boot volume)
Paste in all three lines of this at once, replacing USERNAME with the short user name of your regular account:
sudo chmod +a "USERNAME allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" \
    /Users/Shared/sharefolder
Repeat that last step, replacing USERNAME with the short user name of your wife's account.
Now anything you save in /Users/Shared/sharefolder will be automatically readable and writable by both you and your wife. But do take care to COPY any PRE-EXISTING files to that folder; don't MOVE them there. The ACL settings are only applied if the files are newly created inside the folder; they won't stick if the files are previously existing elsewhere on the boot volume and moved in.
If you want to completely open up all of the contents of both your home folders to each other and make everything readable and writable (which I don't recommend), just enter this into Terminal as well, replacing USERNAME accordingly:
sudo chmod +a "USERNAME allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" /Users/USERNAME
When done, log out of the Admin account. You'll find that you will hardly if ever need to use it again. Nearly all admin and even root tasks can be done inside your non-admin account just by authenticating with the admin username and password when prompted.

  • Can i erase lightroom files cache00000.dat?

am traveling and using 1G Lacie Thunderbolt portable drive to store photos. Drive is full - strange...but lots of memory is using LR files labeled cache000000.dat (different sets of zeros, this just an example). I think I started to use LR on my MacBook to start new catalog a few days ago...but there are only five photos there...and really I just need to save everything on the road and do post processing at home on MacPro. Don't want to have to buy another external drive tonight...these files all look like trash to me - they are dated the past few days so not anything older where I'd lose the LR connection. I've been using Nikon ViewNX2 to transfer from camera's compact flash to the Lacie external. Figured all photos could live there and I can work them at home. But afraid to erase these cache00000.dat files until I"m sure it's ok. Thanks for any help you might offer!

    You're welcome gunsue.
If ACR/Lr not running, you can delete the entire contents of the folder containing the .dat files, assuming that folder is indeed the ACR cache folder - you should also see an Index.dat file, and NO other files (besides the Cache00000001234.dat files I mean). That is exactly what happens when you click the Purge Cache button in Lightroom's preferences dialog - it deletes the contents of said folder. But note: it's contents will be regenerated as you use the software again, BUT today's entries are smaller than yesterday's (assuming you are using Lr4 or Lr5), so it won't take as much space as it would, or did (and maybe still is), from when you had Lr3, 2, or 1.
Anyway, consider putting a 5 or 10 GB (or less) cap on it (maximum size) to be sure it doesn't take too much room in the future.
Note: you can simply make the folder non-writable if you are really pressed for space and ACR/Lr will simply not create cache entries at all. That will adversely affect performance, but only a tiny bit (a surprisingly small amount, like a small fraction of a second when loading a photo for develop).
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • The administrator account on my iMac has been changed to standard account somehow. How do I change it back to Admin. without any admin account to put password in with..?

I have an iMac 21.5 Intel based comp. running Lion 10.7.3

Somehow you managed to demote the only admin account, despite the safeguards in place to prevent it. I don't remember ever seeing that before. I'd be curious to know how you did it, and why.
    Option 1
If you've enabled root logins, log in as root and promote the other user to an admin.
    Option 2
Boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup) and restore your system from the last Time Machine snapshot taken before the damage was done, if you know when that was.
    Option 3
Back up all data, then boot in single-user mode. When the text stops scrolling, follow the prompts to make the boot volume writable. Then enter the following command:
    ls /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
You should get the following line of output below what you entered:
    /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
If you do, then very carefully enter the following command:
    rm !$
Now you should get no output. Then enter
    reboot
The system will boot into the Setup Assistant, as if you were setting it up for the first time. Create a user with the same name as the old admin user. Log in and test. I'm not sure what will happen to your other user accounts, if any. You may need to recreate them.

  • Projects vs libraries

This should be a relatively easy question to answer:
How do libraries and projects compare to each other (advantages and disadvantages of each)? I have several related VIs that are used together with one of the VIs making calls to the others.  I'd like to have them organized together in the most efficient way.
A couple of times years ago in an older version of LabView, I had built libraries to do this.  I don't remember projects being an option then.
    Thanks.

And an llb should not really be used as an organizational tool - as least during debug. They were originally created so that LabVIEW users on win 3.x could create VIs with long files names like Mac users could. The only real valid use they have today is a way to distribute a VI and it's hierarchy. A single corrupt VI in an llb will make the entire llb unreadable and that is a major reason they should not be used in development.

In fact the repository is missing

can anyone explain what does it means ?

The scripts is what you need to run.
Check out that the directory you run them from is writeable.

  • What are Ownership Eliminations

    Hello Gurus,
Please can some one tell me what are Ownership Eliminations? How different are these from Intercompany Eliminations?
Also our Business Users are asking to do Full Consolidation by which they means the Holding Company/Parent Node Companies will hold 100 % Ownership on their Subcidaries thugh in reality not. I mean Legally they have their own stake of Ownership. BUt for the consolidation purose our Users are asking to consolidate every thing to 100 % at group level.
I am queit confused with this statements.
So can some explain what that means to BPC Consolidation of Investment Business Rules.
There I am finding Equity, Proprtina, Purchase, Parent, Global, Holding Methods.
To add this they want to calcuate Minority interest for onl those Entites which are owned by Outside 3rd party  Company/Partners(Joint Venture). How do I do this?
Can some one can draw a line of my understanding as getting way too confused with this whole process.
Any quick response is highly appreciated

Software Update gave an error I can't reproduce at the moment; but the upshot was that it could not write the package file to the directory. Permissions were drwxr-xr-x. I've solved that by making /Library/Packages writable by any user in group admin. (chown root:admin /Library/Packages; chmod 775 /Library/Packages.) Call me paranoid but I don't want to make that directory world-writable.
The reason I'm updating in that fashion is that I choose to use the "minimalist approach" to system updates discussed in a MacFixIt article at http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070427001751397.
