Making a scroll bar

In CS5, I want to place content on a frame and give the user the ability to scroll through it all. I know no AS3 and have been using code snippets. How can I use code snippets or some other way to do this?
Thanks!!!

You can either drag it in from the components library or load it in dynamically.  If uou go dynamically you still need to have it in the regular library, which you can achieve by dragging one onto the stage and then deleting it from the stage... you'll find it in your library after you drag it onto the stage.

  • Issues converting scroll bar components from AS2 to AS3

    I am working on editing a document that has scroll bar components that I would like to convert from AS2 to AS3 since everytime I try to open the document it shows a WARNING and won't convert them and when I publish and look at the final document the scroll bar seems to act unusally since it is obviously still on AS2.
    Here are two of the scripts I finally was able to find within it. Should I fix it and how so? This first is for the "Creative Scroll Area" and the second is for the "Creative Scrollbar"
    package  {
              import flash.display.MovieClip;
              public class Creative Scroll Area extends MovieClip {
                        public function Creative Scroll Area() {
                                  // constructor code
    package  {
              import flash.display.MovieClip;
              public class Creative Scrollbar extends MovieClip {
                        public function Creative Scrollbar() {
                                  // constructor code

    Okay, well I know the code is making a scroll bar and a scroll area and under the "type" it says they are "compiled..." which is unusual since most of the other components I've worked with have been movie clips or bitmaps. Do I need to look up what AS3 components I need to replace the script from above? Because when I looked for that I couldn't specifically find what I needed or really understood if I was looking at the right information.
    Here is something I found when trying to "debug" it:
    WARNING: The component 'UIScrollBar' requires ActionScript 2.0, which is not supported in this version of Flash Professional.
    WARNING: The component 'Creative Scrollbar' requires ActionScript 2.0, which is not supported in this version of Flash Professional.

  • Text doesn't show, scroll bar does? using Flash CS3 Please help!

    A little background:  I made text box, typed some text, converted it to a movie clip, named etc.  Used a purchased and proven scroller component ... followed directions to the letter, including referencing/linking the files. However, when I tried to test the scroll bar .... the scroll bar appears, scrolls and works perfectly except the text does not appear.  I have tried making a scroll bar with the UIscrollbar same thing happens. I made an other attempt and put pics along with the text in the movie clip ... this time the pics appeared and scrolled, but the text still would not appear.  PLEASE HELP. I am on a deadline and can't get past this scroll bar issue. THANK YOU!

    Hi
    Thanks for the tip. I did embed the text, but still not showing. Currently, I have the text  box set to the following: Dynamic Text, Multiline, Border Around text, Anti-Alias for Animation (but I have tried all choices and embed the text each time).
    Here are the original instructions with the FTscrollbar which I followed exactly.
    1. Drag the component (FTscrollbar) from the components panel to the stage.
    2. Create a new movie clip to be scrolled:
         a. create a textfield on the scene and type in a few lines of text
         b. select the text fields and covert them to a move clip symbol having the registration point top left. (I did top right since my scroll bar is on the right).
         c. give the new movie clip an name in properties panel.
    3.Select the component of the stage and configure its parameters in the parameters panel or component inspector panel.
         a. Instruc the component to scroll the new created movie clip as the targetMovieClip
         b. Set the viewAreaHeight and viewAreaWidth
         c. set snapMode to snapToView value
         d. leave rest of parameters unchanged unless you want to adjust.
    4. Test Movie (contol/test movie)
    On the FTscrollbar, I have the targetMovieClip set to the movieclips name the only other parameters the instructions said to change were veiwAreaHeight=100 veiwAreaWidth=150 which were the defaults.  When I change this numbers the scroll bar goes away and the text still doesn't appear?  The scroll bar is 16 x 140, the text box to be scrolled is 130 x 143 and the entire flash page is 500 x 550. I am not sure what the viewAreaHeight and viewAreaWidth are for ... or if that could be the problem?  I have never had problems with scrollers but I used MX. I just recently purchased the CS3 and I am not sure what I am not selecting or not selecting but if feel it's probably something simple I am overlooking.  So any more ideas are MOST APPRECIATED. If you need more info from me to help solve, please feel free to ask. THANKS!

  • Different Scroll bars in one file

    I've manually customized the look and feel of the scroll bars for scroll pane component and it works fine. I've two different files that have different visual styles for scroll bars. Now I want to merge these two files meaning I want to have one file with two different styles of scrollbars co-existing. I can resolve the naming conflicts but both of the them are using same asset names and action scripts (I think in the class definition).
    So basically my question if how can I have two different scroll bars implemented in one file?
    Many thanks

    You can make the clip that you want to play at 2 fps seem
    that way by just making it longer. Alternately, you could use a
    timed tween.

  • 2 Scroll bars in 1 BAR?

    I just recently noticed I have to two scroll bars inside one scroll bar.
    I've displayed a picture so whoever is helping can have a better understading of what I mean.
    Never seen this happen & don't know how to fix
    http://s21.postimg.o...4n/2scrolls.png

    Yes, it does affect all sites that I go to!
    Thing is, I've used the same theme(If you're talking about the pride flag at the top) and everything else for the past year + and never had this problem.
    I recently just installed 3 new Add Ons in FireFox. One being, DoNotTrackMe. Two, Disconnect. Three, HTTPSEverywhere.
    Maybe they interfere with the scroll bar somehow making two in one? Maybe I should try to uninstall the programs - Since I've only recently had this program?
    Or, Maybe it was a windows updates I installed that made it go this way?
    This problem is quite annoying, I can't even see the scroll bar once I get to the end of a page because it's hidden in the second scroll bar near the bottom.
    Thank you for taking the time to try and fix my problem.

  • Scroll bars in phpBB forum posts

    I just posted a complaint on a phpBB forum about most posts being framed with scroll bars making it necessary to scroll down and across to read each post.
    After a bit of a debate it turns out that being the only Mac user and the only Safari user I am the only one experiencing this problem. It doesn't happen with Firefox.
    Is there any way of tweaking Safari to stop this happening.

    Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't make the slightest difference.

    Hello,
    This is a well-known issue with this code, as you can see in the thread you copied the code from.
    In the following post, Laura is presenting an IE only solution, based on a different code I wrote - Re: How to implement fixed column headers . Cross browser solution is yet to be found.

  • Scroll bar does not work when creating a datalist

    So I created a very simple vertical scrollbar from 2 stretched rectangles (a thumb and a track). I also grouped a text field and a square together, that would make up the list items.
    Next, I selected the scrollbar and the list item, and created a data list from them. When I tested the project, however, I could move the scrollbar without any problems, but the items in the list did not move. I also tried adding some more items to the list, which didn't help either.
    Then i tried using the component from Flash Catalyst, instead of my "home-made" scrollbar. Making a data list out of this, and testing the project gave the desired result.
    I'd really like to use my own made scrollbar here, and I have the feeling that I missed something completely obvious on the way that I forgot.
    Note: I checked several times if I had forgotton to "edit the parts" of the scrollbar and data list, but I had selected all the parts as required.

    What you can try if the above doesn't work, is deleting the scroll bar from your Data List, and then dropping it back in from the Library. The act of re-adding the scrollbar may get you the desired behavior.
    If that doesn't work, you will probably need to post your project so we can take a look.

  • Scroll bar, buttons and a Custom Component - help

    Thanks to another forum I was able to create a scroll panel and add a scroll bar to it.  That works fine.  Inside the scroll panel I have thumbnails of the product that I'm highlighting.  I want to be able to click on the thumbnail and have a full size photo of the product come up in the window next to the scroll panel.  I created a custom component that has a stage showing each full size product individually.  This worked fine when I simply had buttons and no scroll bar.  I could convert the thumbnail to a button and then add interaction so that it would go to the proper state of the custom component.  Where I'm having problems is now that I've imbedded the buttons in a scroll panel I'm no longer given the custom component as an option to pick from.  I can add interaction, but it only gives me the option of picking one of the pages, and not a component.
    I've attached a screen grab to help show what I'm describing.
    Any ideas?
    Doug

    Doug, thanks for asking this question.
    Hi ADAM...
    It seems that a lot of us are asking the same question: Scrollbar Navigation-Make Actionable
    (I created a low-fidelity proof-of-concept to test—using a datalist as you suggested. See link in my posting).
    I have reviewed the video you refer to here, but you example still does not allow for individual items in the datalist (scrollbar) to be assigned individual actionable events.
    Can you expain your thinking in Option 1, as a workaround? Do you have any other suggestions?
    BOTTOM LINE
    We are all looking to do the same thing... something we are going to see A LOT MORE of after Uncle Steve's TABLET presentation next week:
    A scrolling menu, with selected items in the menu causing "navigation" to a certain point in a scroll panel. (imitating the flick or slide effect of iPhone).
    Suggestion: Can you add a field to thedatalist so that when the "repeated item" (in edit mode) is configuredto do an action (i.e., On-Click, Transition to State), we can then assign the state  you'd like for each item in thetable itself?
    Now the issue is making it change the "State" within another component (i.e. scrolling panel). Can that be done?
    Thanks,
    - Rick

  • Unnecessary horizontal scroll bar in API

    PROBLEM .................
    Someone recently asked:
    When viewing the Java SE v1.4.1 docs
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/index.html
    in frames in Internet Explorer v6.0, the right frame always has a horizontal scroll
    bar regardless of how I size the window. This results in the right or
    left edge of the docs to be clipped in the browser. I had the same
    problem with the v1.4.0 docs leading me to believe it is an issue in the
    HTML generation in the javadoc tool. I'm no fan of Microsoft, but your
    HTML docs should be viewable in the most popular browser on Windows
    IMHO.
    SOLUTION.................
    This is due to a bug in IE, for which there is a workaround that
    you can easily implement by making a small change to a single file.
    The horizontal scroll bar will go away if you change api/index.html
    from this:
    <FRAME src="overview-summary.html" name="classFrame"
    title="Package, class and interface descriptions">
    to this:
    <FRAME src="overview-summary.html" name="classFrame" scrolling="yes"
    title="Package, class and interface descriptions">
    However, this fix did not make it into 1.4.2.
    This is the bug report:

    Ohh... thanks. I was wondering about that.

  • How can I browse my page without a scroll bar?

    Hi, I 'd like to have  my site in specific size(1360x768pix) without a scroll bar,  since I 'm making it for a wide screen PC for a special occasion.
    I unchecked "sticky footer" , set 0 for both "Mergin" and "padding" of the "Page property".
    Although I set page size and property to make it fit on the screen, It shows scroll bars on the right and bottm of the browser.
    Is there any way to get rid of a scroll bar??
    It would be great if you could give me some ideas.
    Thanx!

    Thanks for the tip, guys!!
    I insert the
    <style type="text/css">
    overflow:hidden;
    </style>
    code in the<head>Sec. in the Matadata panel of the PageProperties. But I can't get rid of the scroll bar yet.
    Do I do that procedure for the every pages?? There's no Metadata panel in the Master page's Page property but other's. Thanx!

  • How can I make an area of the front-panel have scroll bars?

    I'm writing a VI that provides many options to the user. The front-panel is large and contains many controls ~130 of them, it's divided up visually to match the workings of the system the VI controls. One particular functional block has very many control options though these are rarely used. I can't fit all of the controls I need onto the screen area I have available.
    What I would like is a way of making an area of the screen with scroll bars on it. I don't need any more than that, just an expansion of the front-panel area I have available. The "Sub-Panel" feature provides the scroll bars. But, a Sub-Panel is a way of accessing another VI, I don't want to do that. I could put the extra controls on the far-left or far-right of everything else and get the user to scroll the main scroll bars at the edges of the screen. The problem with that is that I it would mean couldn't lay out my front panel to match the system block-diagram as I have so far.
    Does anyone know how to do this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I know I can show the scroll bars at the edge of the VI. In my case that's not very useful. The front panel shows a block diagram of a system. It's made up of a set of clusters which control various parts of the system. I want to keep this layout because it's very useful in explaining to people new to the system how it works. I inherited that approach from a previous iteration of the program for an older system. The problem I have is that the new system has far more control parameters for one of the blocks. Unfortunately it's one of the blocks in the middle of the block diagram. If it were one at the left, right, top or bottom it would be no problem because the main scrollbars could be used.
    I can use a tab-control, that's my fall-back plan. The problem is that would be abusing the purpose of the tab control. In a tab control each tab is supposed to deal with a group of controls that have a common connection. So, all the things in tab #1 are supposed to be connected in some way and all the things in tab #2 are supposed to be connected in some way. There not supposed to be a way of gaining more screen space.
    The controls I'm dealing with are numeric controls, switches and rings.

    We've noticed that the TOC slide bar/scroll bar is not displaying via iPad.  It does show Desktop via Safari and FireFox.  Is there a setting we have missed perhaps?

    Depending on your issue, making an appoint will be offered as an option by choosing "Take in for Service" (see http://www.macrumors.com/2014/11/07/apple-genius-bar-online/).  Of course, you could also just try calling your local Apple store.

  • Question about transparent scroll bar?

    i have a Tree with some data in it. Verticalscrollpolicy = "ON". HorizontalScrollPolicy = "ON".
    When i click on one of my branches it expands, making horizontal width greater than the horizontal size of the Tree. The horizontal scroll bar springs into action, but the vertical scroll bar is still disabled because the data hasn't expanded that far vertically yet.
    However, when the vertical bar is disabled, the text overlaps the vertical scroll bar, like the bar is clear or something. I don't want this. I want the bar to be opaque, so the text never shows through it, even when the vertical scroll bar is disabled.
