Making a sill photo from a dvd

I am viewing a dvd of a dance show and want to make a still photo of some of my students moves. I can't figure out how or if I can even do that........need help....not good on computer......old school girl here, be gentle

the easy way, well I hope anyway, would be to take a screenshot with the movie paused where you want it. now, the DVD Player application does not let you take screenshots when it's open. so you'll need an additional application, either to playback the movie or take the screenshot.
so, it would be easier & better to tell you to get another video player. it's free & pretty simple to install. it's called VLC & can be found at http://videolan.org
once installed, play the disc using VLC & pause where you would like to take a picture. I think using the arrow keys will nudge frame to frame when paused, which is similar to quicktime. there's plenty of faq stuff on their site to help with VLC if you need more info.
& here's how to do screenshots in Mac OS - http://take-a-screenshot.org/ click the Mac tab.

  • Is there any way to import the photos from a DVD slideshow I made in 2007?

is there any way to import the photos from a DVD slideshow I made in 2007? they are set to music and there are quite a few photos on the slideshow. I didn't back up the photos on a separate DVD/CD so the photos are all there but i don't know how to import them from a musical slideshow. Help!

Unless you opted to add the source image files to the DVD's ROM  Contents the answer is no.

  • Import photos from slideshow DVD.

I made a slideshow DVD and trashed the original photos.
I now want to change the soundtrack - how can I import still photos from the DVD or alter the soundrack please?

The only way I can think of to do that would be to rip the DVD onto your mac into a quicktime format, then - with Quicktime Pro - dub the new soundtrack on and then re-burn it to a DVD.
The problem is the DVD format is a "final" format, not designed for re-editing.

  • I am lost. I put photos from a DVD into organizer?

I put images from a DVD into Elements 9. My images show up in my catalog and it allows me to edit and to print. It never asks me to put in the disk. BUT once I got a message that elements could not do something because the image is on an external disk.
How do I check where they are?
If they are only on the external disk, why did it let me print and do some editing?
Is it using just the thumb nail? Wouldn't I lose a lot of quality. I have only done 4x6 prints so far.
I can't find the answers in the manual.
If they are only on the DVDs, what I guess I am asking is, how do I manage them if they stay on the dvds. I have one to three DVDs for each year.
    Thanks for any help,
    confused and bewildered

Thanks, I lost the side panel. I begin to understand. I see my photo files and they are all within the c drive. They must all be imported otherwise it would show F (DVD) drive wouldn't it?
Elements created a folder and called it "photos from removeable media" and all my photos from DVDs are within that folder. To me 'from removeable media" seemed to indicate that they are thumbnails only but I guess not. There is a message that says "No files from this folder have been  imported into the organizer. To add any files right click on the folder  and select 'import to organizer'  Do I read this that Elements does not  see any files in the master folder since there are only folders in the  master folder?
All my file organization is gone from the files imported from removeable media. The whole year is just blobbed together. What is the best way to put the pictures back into the subfolders I had on the disks. For example, I create a master folder (Boston trip) and then within it subfolders (A at hotel, B tours, C people) Should I delete everything and start again. First copy to the hard drive to keep my folders? Then import to Elements? I have 2 or 3 DVDs per year.
I appreciate your help. Thanks again,
    Linda

  • Iphoto-import photo from cd/dvd

hallo .my new apple mac is giving me problems after a trouble free 11 months,no doubt totally due to my own erros.i lost all my photo library after trying to tidy up things.
imports of new photo via sandisc imagemate(reader writer) no problem but when i try to impo rt the photos to libray.i imediately get THE VOLUME FOR CIMG JPG APPEARS.
i am not able to stop importing except by force quitting.later some photos are found in the iphoto library that were not imported and asks if i would like to import them.if i say yes,it goes back to VOLUME FOR--CANNOT BE FOUND.
i can only import them by cancelling each one individually.i have checked COPY ITEMS TO THE PHOTO LIBRARY to no avail in advanced preferences.
i am not connected to the internet and would appreciate any help in getting my iphoto library back in ship-shape order.
    thank you

I’m not sure I understand your issue but this might be the issue:
This sometimes occurs if you’re importing a file into iPhoto and there’s already a file there with the same name. Digital cameras can produce many, many files with the same name over their lifetime, so it’s not uncommon to have several files called IMG_00543.JPG, for instance. Now you want to import one also called this.
What happens is that iPhoto compares the two files to check for duplicates. However, if iPhoto cannot find the file already in the database for comparison, then you get this message. It suggests that your database is damaged because iPhoto has lost track of this (or these) similarly named files.
A simple test is to rename the file you are importing - just add a character - IMG_00543a.JPG for instance. If this then imports with no issue then you might consider rebuilding your library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Get Photos from DVD Slideshow

    Hey there
I am running the PSE 5.0 with PE 3.0 combo. I created a slide show in PSE and sent it to PE to add some video clips to it before creating a dvd. Since doing this I have deleted the slideshow from my computer and was wondering if there was a way to just import the photos from the DVD. Some of the photos had captions added and I would prefer to not have to go through all my pics again and put them in order and add captions...you understand. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Jason

    Jason,
    >wondering if there was a way to just import the photos from the DVD
    Probably not -
If you have created that DVD from Premiere Elements, then it contains a video in which your photos appear. However, the are not actually photo files on the DVD because they have been encoded to video format.
If you have made a regular DVD (standard definition) then the images of the photo within the video on the DVD only have a resolution that is equivalent to 640x480 pixels. This resolution is lower (worse) than some cell phone cameras or your PC/laptop monitor and is not practical for printing photos.
    >Since doing this I have deleted the slideshow from my computer
1-- Did you delete both the Photoshop Elements Slide Show AND the Premiere Elements Project (file) for this video?
If you have either of the project file from PSE or from PRE and you have the actual photo files still on your computer, you might be able to get the photos in sequence with captions again.
Some more details to help evaluate alternatives -
2-- How do you plan to use these photos with Captions?
3-- Did you add your captions to the photo file OR did you add the captions during the PSE slide show editor process?
4-- Did you make a Collection of these photos to establish the sequence of photos before you started the slide show in PSE?

  • Import Photos from DVD  - Reference to Original DVD Title?

i installed the trial version of Lightroom 2.0 and tested it out putting a DVD in.. it imported all the thumbnails fine... but when you take out the DVD after its done cataloging all the icons, the program doesn't tell you the name of the DVD that the photo folders belong to... it just gives a message referring to the fact that the "image is not available" when you click on an icon... which makes sense of course because the DVD isn't there, but... there's no indication like "please insert DVD labeled "PhotoDVD090" or whatever ...
I looked through the preferences to see if there was a way of turning on a feature that would be able to prompt me to put in the correct DVD when a particular thumbnail was clicked... this, I believe would be an invaluable and time saving tool for those of us with tons of off-line media.

Thanks for the reply.. I appreciate it much. I know what you're trying to say but I have searched for a program that will import photos from a DVD, remember it by serial number (of the physical media), allow you to type in a DVD name or use the one originally provided when you burned the DVD, then store all thumbnails on the computer, remove the DVD, still have the thumbnails on the computer permanently and when you click a thumbnail, if the appropriate DVD is not in the drive it will prompt you for the title of the DVD..
simple simple simple... The fact that Lightroom doesn't have such a feature has prompted me to remove it completely from my system..
the fact that ACDsee Photo Manager 10 DOES have this feature, and costs a mere $29.99 has prompted me to get it instead.. it works like a dream... you can browse all your images, search by any criteria imaginable.. and then when you find the image you wish to work on.. a double click will pop of a box saying please insert such and such a dvd... you put in the DVD then click edit and up it pops in photoshop (or whatever other editing software you specify).. magic... Lightroom really needs to address this lacking option.

  • Copying photos from DVD to DVD

I have a DVD with a lot of pictures -- over one gigabyte total.  I want to make copies the pictures on the DVD on other DVDs to distribute to others.  I have a Mac Air with an external CD/DVD burner.
Because it would take up a lot of space, I don't want to download the pictures to my computer, however.
My plan was to upload the pictures from the external CD/DVD burner to the iCloud and then burn the files to DVD copies from my iCloud account.  But it seems I need to involve iPhoto to do it, which means copying the photos to my hard drive.
Is there a way I can copy the photos from the DVD to other DVDs without ever storing the pictures on my hard drive?

    TigerBrains wrote:

Apart from the fact that you can't upload photos in this way to iCloud, you can't burn a DVD from any online service - the downloads wouldn't keep up with the burning process.

  • Can I retrieve photos burned onto DVD (I used iDVD)?

I lost my hard drive last week and am in the process of rebuilding my photo gallery. In Decemeber, I burned a DVD with all of my desired photos from 2012 using iDVD. In addition to the videos and slideshows that I included in the main menu, I made sure to burn the actual photos to the DVD as well. Except now, I don't know how to retrieve the photos from the DVD to re-import into iPhoto. Any suggestions?

  • LOSING IT: "Image Loading" from a DVD is NOT!!

I don't know what's the deal. Aren't we supposed to have our photos anywhere? That's how Aperture is being marketed right?
How come I can't edit my referenced photos from a DVD? I import them fine and during the import it seems I can edit the photos. But say that I want to edit some of my photos a week after; Aperture simply doesn't allow that! It tells me that the "Image is Loading", but the DVD doesn't even spin.
It's not the DVD player as I can access the photos in the Finder and even edit them using Preview....
    H....E....L.....P.....!

    Hi Eduardo,
Thanks for the reply. I had tried that to no avail. It's weird because the photos I have in external drives have no problems. Only DVDs.
The screen to manage referenced files (the top part) shows that all files were found (the ones I have referred to in my DVD as well). However in the "volume" column it only shows "All Volumes" and my external hard drive. I'm assuming that here also the DVD volume should also be listed. This may be the reason why it doesn't work. But how can I force it to see my DVD? Any other approach?
    Any ideas?

Add new photo to existing calendar folder in iPhoto
I am making a calendar in iPhoto, picking photos from a folder, let's call it "2011 Pics," in iPhoto. After arranging all the photos and captions I decided I wanted to insert a new photo -- one that was not in "2011 Pics." So I inserted it into the folder, but the picture does not show up on the scrolling menu of pictures at the left of the calendar-making page. This happened last year and in frustration I started all over again. But surely there is a way to add a new picture to a calendar that is already laid out.

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

It should. So they aren't shown in the Last Import smart album, right? Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.
