Making movies using Java

Hi,
I am trying to make movies using Java, and naturally with Java Media Framework it is doable. However, it is a huge overhead to my tiny tool to be distributed over the Internet, and also makes the program very hard to install for my end users, so I cannot use it.
In essence, what need to do is to take a series of jpeg images generated by my program, and convert them into a movie. Preferably to mpeg-1.
It only needs to work on Windows platforms, so I have been looking for a command line tool I can call from my Java program that will automatically compress the jpeg files.
Do you have any pointers? Help would be greately appreciated, as I have been looking near and far for such a program.
Thank you...

Although I can't offer any help, I'd be interested to see where you go with this topic. I had a request for a program to sequence JPEG and TIFF images (taken from a E.Microsope) into movie sequences a while ago. Similar kinds of limitations. Are there any C libraries in existance that you could call into using JNI?

  • Making animation using java, need help, image doesn't get painted

    I was trying to make some sort of animation and it is done by painting a head and a body at a time. The problem is the body never gets painted but the head is perfect. Unless I replace the int variable within imgBodypics[int variable] with a variable at counts from 0 to N or an integer , the body doesn't get painted, that is not what i want, as the images that make up the animation consists of 8 frames starting from the image006.gif ~ image014.gif

  • Making movies with SLR stills in FCE4

    Does any one have any sources of information for making movies using still images… not stills captured from movies, but stills taken using a 'still' camera either digital or scanned from film for time lapse movies and multimedia slideshows. I'm particularly interested in issues of quality both importing images and exporting the final product, this is the thing I have the most trouble with. I know it's possible to get fantastic results I've seen them on the web… Magnum in Motion, VII, Media Storm etc but all the advice I can find is not to surprisingly 99% aimed at video movie making.
    One other thing; I'm currently using iMovie 09 which is fine as far as it goes but I'm finding it a bit of a battle and am considering trying FCE 4 as it seems a little more intuitive and capable. I have read in a couple of reviews people complaining about the constant need to render and wonder how much of this is down to developing a sensible work flow and getting the hang of the software. As far as I can see from the tutorials most of the filters etc can be previewed without rendering. How does this particular factor compare with other products out there by Adobe for example?
    Sorry for the long question… I don't expect long answers!
    Matt.

    I recommend Photo to Movie to make movies out of still images. I looked at a number of different products including iPhoto, iMovie, FCE and decided on Photo to Movie. The feature set is strong with good transition, motion, audio, etc features and the usual range of output options.
    It's strong point is the image quality of the output whether for TV, web or computer - seems to be better than most other options at higher prices.
    Learning it is relatively easy to get started but there's enough capability to reach the movie making production of more expensive products. There's the demo option to let to test before buying. It is inexpensive for what you get. Support and advice can be requested and is given quickly and personally.

    javascript is not a type of java. It is a separate language. What do you mean by "making websites". A website in its simplest form is just an HTML page. If you want to learn what's called a "server side web programming language", which will allow you to do things like retrieve data that a user entered into a form on an HTML page and store it in a database, then first you need to learn basic java, and then you need to learn basic HTML(and it would be beneficial to learn basic javascript although that's not mandatory), and then you need to learn "servlets+jsp"--which is the java version of a "server side web programming language". The easiest "server side web programming language" to learn and the one that is most popular is php.
    Some books you might consider:
    beginning Java: "Java2: A Beginner's Guide"
    beginning servlets+jsp: "Murach's Java servlets and JSP(2008 edition)" -- includes an introduction to HTML
    Im new in using java applet, threading and stuff like that :).OK. You don't need know applets or threading to learn servlets+jsp.
    And maybe I can make management systems in java language is this possible?
    Sure.

  • Dynamic Programming Using Java

    hiiii...anyone knows how to use a dynamic programming to compare a mouse movement using java??? i hope some one can help me......

    This was just an idea. I do not know of any program
    implementing this. I will not help you store coordinates
    into a database, but I can explain my suggestion in
    more detail.
    Since the characters might be more dependent on the page
    then the user, you must make a sub character for each page.
    Your table row must then contain following fields:
    user, time, page, x-cord, and y-cord.
    Now assume following
    - we will use the characters 'average speed' and
    'centre of gravity of movement'.
    - we have two sessions of data, that is two sets of table
    rows as described above. Every set belongs to different
    users.
    - the sessions are spread on a set of pages.
    Now we will compute the distance between these users. There
    are a lot of distance metrics but let us choose the most
    common one. Let P be a set of points in R^n and p.n
    be the n coordinate of the point p in P. Then for any p1
    and p2 in P, define the distance metric to be
    D(p1,p2) = summa_{over n} (p1.n-p2.n)^2
    Define the average speed for a certain user and page to be
    Speed(user, page) (in) R. Further more let
    Gravity(user, page) (in) R^2 be the centre of gravity of
    movement for a user and page.
    Then the total distance is
    D(user_1, user_2) = summa_{over all pages} k1*D(Gravity(user_1, page), Gravity(user_2, page)) + k2*D(Speed(user_1, page), Speed(user_2, page))
    where k1 and k2 are constants determines the importance
    you want to assign the two characters.

  • Flash programming using Java!

    I found there are tools to compile .net applications to SWF movies that can be run by Flash.
    Are there any similar tools for Java, which can compile Java programs into SWF files?
    Looking for a way to write my Flash movies using Java...
    Thanks :)

  • How to play movie file using java tv

    hi,
    i am trying to play movie file(.mov or mpg or mp3) using java tv in linux plotform and also using jmf jar.
    problem is while running appear black screen and getting exception or errors like
    Unable to handle format: ima4, 480x320, FrameRate=25.0, Length=460800 0 extra bytes
    Thank in adv

    Well...
    I don't know how to load and play a video with JavaTV. But I've seen some posts telling that .mpg files aren't accepted by the JavaTV.
    Some people said that I had to use .avi files and these .avi files, if they were converted from a .mpg file, must had been converted with the Cinepack technology, but I don't know how to do this.
    If you find out how to load and play a video, I'd like to know, please send me an email or access my page and post there in the comments, so I can continue doing my application with a video.

  • Making my game created using Java SE work on mobile devices

    I have created a game using Java SE. Can my game be played on a mobile device such as the new g3 iphone?
    Do I have to create my game using Java ME in order to be played on mobile devices?
    Thank you,
    jeffphotos7777

    A lot of the J2SE library is not available on J2ME and the user interface components will have to be completely changed. Check out the J2ME API and you can see what parts of your code you will be able to keep and what will have to be changed. There is also the consideration of performance, the design of J2ME apps is different from J2SE so you may need to make changes to make sure you don't drain the battery etc.

  • How do you reference a Formular Object on a Crystal Report using Java

    Hi all,
    I am trying to reference an object on my report which contains a Formula field.
    I have read the following 2 threads, but they refer to textObjects:
    [How do you reference a textObject on a Crystal report using Java|Re: How do you reference a textObject on a Crystal report using Java?]
    [Changing the text of ITextObject programatically|Re: Changing the text of ITextObject programatically]
    But I cannot even get those to work. I can reference a object which refers to a database field but as soon as I try
    reference a textObject or reportObject I just get a NULL variable.
    Below is the code I am useing
    IReportObject dbField = reportClientDocument.getReportDefController().findObjectByName("BOB1");
    IReportObject textBob = reportClientDocument.getReportDefController().findObjectByName("BOB2");
    "BOB1" is the name of my DB field Object, and "BOB2" can be a Text box or a Formula item and I just get nothing.
    I have just tested it with a FieldHeadingObject and that returns a valid object, so clearly I am going about this the wrong way
    for objects I place on the reports which are not driven by the database items.
    Ultimately what I want to do is reference an object in the Report Footer which will contain the RecordCount of the number of
    records contained in the report, which I am them going to use to determine if the report holds data,
    if it does I will print it, else ignore it and move on the the next report. I am doing this so that I can at an extra filter to split
    a report up into groups and produce a sinlge PDF for each group instead of one massive PDF containing all the groups.
    So if someone has a solution to any of my problems I would be very greatful, and I dont mind being told Im an idiot and should
    rather do it another way, as long as you supply that other way
    Thanks for the help

    Forgot to add am using CR4Ev2 SP3

    Right I have made some headway.
    Firstly, Im an idiot. I was making changes and setting up test fields on my report, but then when running the app, I had it looking at
    the backup report, which would explain why all the new textbox fields were not being found.
    The stupiditity did force me to delve deep and work out a fair bit of how the reports work, so cant complain too much. BUT, I am still
    not able to return values of Formula fields and formulas extra. Could someone tell me if this is even possible. I get retrieve the formula field
    name, and properties but not its value once the report has been populated. Am I wasting my time?
    Well I will continue dismantling my reports till I find the answer, or someone points me in the right direction.
    If any one is interested this is the code I used to drill down to my text boxes:
    IReportObject recCount = reportClientDocument.getReportDefController().findObjectByName("TB1");
    ITextObject obj_RecCount = (ITextObject) recCount;
    System.out.println(obj_RecCount.getName());
    Paragraphs objP = obj_RecCount.getParagraphs();
    for (int i = 0; i < objP.size(); i++){
         ParagraphElements pE = objP.getParagraph(i).getParagraphElements();
         for (int j = 0;j < pE.size(); j++){
              IParagraphTextElement pEE = (ParagraphTextElement) pE.getParagraphElement(j);
              System.out.println(pEE.getText());

  • How to get comparable Oracle JDBC performance using Java 1.4 vs 1.1.7?

    Our application makes extensive use of JDBC to access an Oracle database. We wrote it a number of years ago using java 1.1.7 and we have been unable to move to new versions of java because of the performance degradation.
    I traced the problem to JDBC calls. I can reproduce the problem using a simple program that simply connects to the database, executes a simple query and then reads the data. The same program running under java 1.4 is about 60% slower than under java 1.1.7. The query is about 80% slower and getting the data is about 150% slower!
    The program is attached below. Note, I run the steps twice as the first time the times are much larger which I attribute to java doing some initializations. So the second set of values I think are more representative of the actual performance in our application where there are numerous accesses to the database. Specifically, I focus on step 4 which is the execute query command and step 5 which is the data retrieval step. The table being read has 4 columns with 170 tuples in it.
    Here are the timings I get when I run this on a Sparc Ultra 5 running
    SunOs 5.8 using an Oracle database running 8.1.7:
                     java 1.1.7  java 1.4
            overall:    2.1s         3.5s
            step 1:     30           200
            step 2:    886          2009
            step 3:      2             2
            step 4:      9            17
            step 5:    122           187
            step 6:      1             1
            step 1:      0             0
            step 2:    203           161
            step 3:      0             1
            step 4:      8            15   <-   87% slower
            step 5:     48           117   <-  143% slower
            step 6:      1             2I find the same poor performance from java versions 1.2 and 1.3.
    I tried using DataDirect's type 4 JDBC driver which gives a little better performance but overall it is still much slower than using java 1.1.7.
    Why do the newer versions of java have such poor performance when using JDBC?
    What can be done so that we can have performance similar to java 1.1.7
    using java 1.4?

    If I run my sample program with the -server option, it
    takes a lot longer (6.8s vs 3.5s).Which has to be expected, as the -server option optimizes for long running programs - so it shoudl go with my second suggestion, more below...
    I am not certain what you mean by "just let the jvm
    running". Our users issue a command (in Unix) which
    invokes one of our java programs to access or update
    data in a database. I think what you are suggesting
    would require that I rewrite our application to have a
    java program always running on the users workstation
    and to also rewrite our
    commands (over a hundred) to some how pass data and
    receive data with this new server java program. That
    does not seem a very reasonable just to move to a new
    version of java. Or are you suggesting something
    else?No I was just suggestion what you descript. But if this is not an option, then maybe you should merge your java-programs to C or another native language. Or you could try the IBM-JDK with the -faststart (or similar) option. If thew Unix you mention is AIX, then there would be the option of a resetable-vm. But I cannot say if this VM would solve your problem. Java is definitly not good for applications which only issue some unqiue commands because the hotspot-compiler can not be efficiently used there. You can only try to get 1.1.7 performance by experimenting with vm-parameters (execute java -X).

  • How to use Java Robot to click the same button multiple times

    Hi All,
    I am trying to use Java Robot to turn a Windows utility located on the Desktop by clicking the same button on and then off with the following code:
      1.  Robot robot1 = new Robot();
      2.  robot1.mouseMove(400,180);
        // Turn on the utility
      3.  robot1.delay(100);
      4.  robot1.mousePress(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
      5.  robot1.delay(100);
      6.  robot1.mouseRelease(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
        //Wait for 2 minutes
      7.  robot1.delay(200);
        // Move the mouse to disconnect button
      8.  robot1.mouseMove(400,180);
        // Turn off the utility
      9.  robot1.mousePress(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
    10. robot.delay(100);
    11. robot.mouseRelease(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);However, only the first click (line 1 - 7) worked. Everything from step 8 onwards doesn't appear to be doing anything. Even instantiating another robot2 to carry out step 8 - 11 did not work either. Also have tried running steps 9 - 11 only. ie skip 8.
    My aim is to turn this tool on and off at regular interval.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jack

    Hi darth_code_r and Vincent,
    Both you and Vincent are right about insufficient time between the release ( 6 ) of mouse button and step ( 9 ) press the same button again to turn it off. You are also correct in saying that it was not necessary to move the mouse again ( 8 ) since it was sitting on the right button already.
    Below is the code I have ended up with which worked for me:
    1.  Robot robot1 = new Robot();
    2.  robot1.mouseMove(390,150);
    4.  robot1.mousePress(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);

  • How do I rent a movie using money in my iTunes account.  I had to enter at the iTunes gift card code to open the account, but now I can't figure out how to use this money to rent a movie; I opened the account several months ago but never used the money.

    How do I rent a move using moneyin my iTunes account.  I had to enter the iTunes gift ard code to open the account several months ago, but never purchased anything with it.  When I entered this code to rent a movie, the response was that it was redeemed.  What am I doing wrong?

    If you've already redeemed the card onto your account then its amount should be on your account - a card can only be redeemed once.
    To rent a film, find the film in the store and (if the film studio has made it available as a rental in your country) click on its Rent button. If you are beig prompted to review your account and enter credit card details then see if this post from mountaingoatgirl lets you do so without entering card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054 . If that doesn't work then you should be able to remove your card's details after entering them.
    As long as you account's balance covers the rental cost then only that should be charged. How purchases are billed : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5582
    When making purchases, content credits are used first, followed by Gift Certificate, iTunes Card, or Allowance Account credits; your credit card or PayPal account is then charged for any remaining balance.

  • Running unix command using java shows error

    Hi All,
    I am trying to run UNIX move command using Java exec method but its throwing error, unable to rename. Here below is the code i am trying to run to move all files from one directory to another directory. source and destination directory exists.
    public class Demo
        public static void main(String args[])
            try
                Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
                Process proc = rt.exec("mv /home/demo1/* /home/demo2");
                int exitVal = proc.waitFor();
                System.out.println("Process exitValue: " + exitVal);
            } catch (Throwable t)
                t.printStackTrace();
    }if i give "mv /home/demo1 /home/demo2" in exec method, its working, with * character its giving problem.
    Please help me in resolving the problem.
    Thank you

    Characters like *, >, &, |, etc. are interpreted by the command shell--that is by the bash, zsh, etc. programs. When you execute a command with ProcessBuilder or Runtime.exec, you're not going through one of those shells, so their interpretation of those characters is not available.
    In your code, the character * is being delivered directly to the mv command (which doesn't think * is anything special), as opposed to being turned into a list of files and directories as it would be when it's interpreted by the shell. The mv command doesn't know anything about the * character being special.
    If you want to have those shell interpretations, you need to execute the command through a shell. One example is like so, but a) you'll want to read up on the methods in exec() that take arrays of String, and b) you'll want to read up on ProcessBuilder, and c) you'll need to check your shell's man pages to see the exact syntax and arguments.
    runtime.exec("/bin/bash -c 'mv x/* y'");

  • Confused.. trying to stop a flash video using java

    Hi, I am trying to put a video on a webpage that uses java to
    hide it's visibility.
    This layer has a video, and when a person clicks on a link
    java hides the layer and it is supposed to stop the video from
    playing. I know how to hide the layer, but I am new to flash and I
    have not seen a way to use java to turn of the video.
    Any ideas? How I can use a simple java function to turn the
    video off?
    Many thanks for any ideas to solve this.
    Joe

    I'm pretty sure that you mean Javascript and not Java. Have a
    look at the ExternalInterface class. There are some examples in the
    online help that demonstrate calling a function in a Flash movie
    from Javascript in the HTML doc.
