Making VOB Files Play on DVD Player
I am using MPEG Streamclip to create edited VOB or TS files of personal DVD recordings. I can burn these files onto a data DVD, but I can only use my computer to play them. What I need is some kind of application that I can point to all of my VOB or TS files and it would create a IFO playlist in a VIDEO_TS folder that would run on my DVD player. I hope that makes sense. Basically, I need to go from a folder full of VOB video files to a DVD that will run on a DVD Player.

If you still have Toast 6, please update it least to version 6.0.9. Previous Toast versions could alter audio/video sync of muxed MPEG files. Some versions of Toast may have trouble burning some MPEGs with mp2 audio -- a workaround is to demultiplex the MPEG to m2v and m1a (or aiff) with MPEG Streamclip and burn them with Toast. Toast may lose audio sync or be too picky and reject some MPEGs -- a workaround is to demultiplex the MPEG to m2v and aiff with MPEG Streamclip and burn them with Toast. Converting to "Headed" MPEG adds a special header to the MPEG file that lets you import unsupported frame sizes into Toast 6 or 7 and skip recompression. However, DVDs made from "headed" MPEG files are not guaranteed to work with all players.
Sizzle does not have encoding capabilities. Maybe it is just re-muxing the files?

for creating so-called 'flash video'/.flv, you need 3rd party apps.
Sorenson Squeeze is more of an pro-tool, .. you need some background knowledge to get noticeable 'better' quality.
.. and the question is: are you willing to pay $.$$$ for that 0.x% more quality .. ? does your source offers such a 101% quality, which needs such affords?
if bandwidth is an issue, because you're hosting on your own servers, consider the free codec xh264, you can install as a free QT-plug-in.. with low or super-low bitrates, it offers a superior quality compared to h264 ... -
Putting 2 vob files onto 1 DVD -Please help
I borrowed a handicam that burns to mini DVD, as mine broke. Usually I import files as DV on the mac from my camera and cut them together there.
With this camera, I have two halves of a recital that I want to put onto 1 DVD. I saved the DOB files from each mini disc ont my Mac and I figured I would just put them both into iDVD or edit with iMovie and burn onto 1 DVD, but I cannot import or use DOB files with them. I also have Final Cut Express, but again - no DOB files. iMovie won't take them.
I tried converting the files with VLC or MPEG Stream on a PC but the audio and video don't sync.
All I want to do is put both VOB files on a DVD that will play in a DVD player.
Please help me! I am extremely frustrated and under a deadline...Make your sequences, export out as DV AVI files, bring them into Encore and author as usual.

How to burn VOB files onto a DVD?
Hello everyone, I've seen this question asked in other forum postings, but I can't seem to find the specific answer I'm looking for. Basically, I have several VOB files that I want to burn onto a DVD that I can play in a regular DVD player. Can anyone please recommend any applications that would be good to do this? You also need to determine what kind of DVDs your player supports. My player will play discs with image files on it. Some players will even play files in mp4 format. If yours will only strictly play DVDs in DVD format then you have to author them with a tool such as iDVD (no longer sold).
If you are playing these at home you might see if you can ouptu video straight to the video device from your MBA. -
Audio doesn't play in DVD player
Hello,
First post here, so be gentle.
When I burn a DVD, there is no sound when I play it on my dvd player. It plays fine when played on my Mac.
Here is what is going on:
1. capture HD video in imovie 06.
2. add chapters, no external audio or photos
3. export to idvd
4. check video in idvd, all looks good, includes audio
5. burn dvd
6. when burn is complete, play in DVD player
results:
No sound when playing video.
I am not sure where to go next, I will try another DVD player this evening. When creating a DVD with the exact same setup but not HD content, everything worked fine.
Any Ideas?

Changed TitleIf it plays OK in your Mac, iDVD 'has done its thing'.
Not all set top like writable media - this might be your problem.
More likely, your problem involves a high level of burn errors resulting from low quality media and/or a high burn speed. Instead of going directly from iDVD to writable media, create a disk image file (an option under FILE). Use Apple's DVD Player to verify the mounted (by double-clicking on the disk image icon), then use Apple's Disk Utility or Roxio's Toast to burn the disk image to writable media. Use good quality media (Maxell or Verbatim) and burn at a low speed (4x or slower).

I exported slideshow from Iphoto 11 to IDVD 7.12 so I could burn DVD for play on DVD player. Fine, but then when playing on DVD player show stops about 12 way and starts over. Seems there are 2 chapters in show. I wan t show to play straight through until end. How do I elimiante chapters or solve problem. Thanks. Bob Low
Try this workflow:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Play the disk image with DVD Player and see if you get the same start over half way thru.
Did you create the slideshow in iPhoto in the slideshow mode?
or were you in an album and then used the Share ➙ iDVD menu option? What I'm trying to find out is if the slideshow in iDVD is a movie file or an iDVD slideshow with the photos from iPhoto? If it's the latter how many photos in the slideshow?

Help - my DVD won't play on DVD player or pc
I have a new macbook pro, and have created a large photo album on iDVD. I have tried 3 times to burn it to a DVD to play it on my TV. The first 2 times the program said it only had less than a minute to complete, but went for more than an hour. The DVD's were burned, but would not play on DVD or PC, but would work on my Mac.
The 3rd time, it went through whole process and it actually completed and ejected the DVD, but when I put it in our player I got a "disk error" message.
I am using DVD-R discs. Can someone please help? Or other ideas on how to get a slide show burned to DVD to play on TV?

Did you create a slideshow on iDVD, or create one in iPhoto and put that into iDVD or create a slideshow in iMovie? How many photos are in your slideshow? Some DVD players will not play more than 99 photos, and other players will stutter/skip/pause for a few seconds and then resume playing.

Did you create a disk image with your iDVD project? That can often help pinpoint burning issues.
From iDVD Help:
+You can test your project before you burn it by saving it as a disc image. The disc image of your project is a fully encoded version of the project that you can play in DVD Player (which comes on your Mac) or burn to a disc later. You can preview the disc image to make sure your project plays correctly and then make changes, if necessary, before burning a disc.+

+Type a name for the disc image.+
+Choose where you want to store the disc image.+
+Click Save.+
+Double-click the disc image icon when the disc image is ready.+

Be sure to use a good brand of DVD-R disks, such as Verbatim or Maxell. Choose a burn speed of 4x or less.

DVD-R discs will not play on DVD Player
The DVD-R discs I made will not play on DVD Player Version 4.0.
I transferred VHS to DVD-R using an RCA VHS/DVD Recorder. The discs played well in 3 different DVD players but will not play on my i-book.

When recording DVD's the software that is available varys greatly.
Some of the top of the line software gives options to burn PC only, MAC only, and PC or MAC combined.
It was also brought to your attention to use VLC Player on your Mac the firmware that is used with this player will sometimes allow for playing DVD's that were burned on these VHS to DVD Burners.
Here are a few tips that affect reading and writing DVD. This link is only a small amount of what can and does affect, I suggest you do a Google search to learn all you can.

Nearly every DVD that will play on a set-top player *should* play on a computer, provided two things:
1.) the computer has a DVD player that can handle that flavor of DVD media, DVD RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD DL, etc.
2.) the computer has a software player installed. This feature has been removed from some common media players. You may need to locate, download and install a separate software player.
There could be another discussion on interlaced vs progressive scan media, but I'll let you ask that question.

You would need to have burned the disc using iDVD or a third-party application such as Toast. Is that what you did?

If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

how do I show my keynote file on a dvd player and control the slides with the skip or next chapter command on the dvd remote? when I export to quicktime, it changes slides on a timed basis. I want the chapter button on a dvd remote to act like a mouse click would.

You have to export the individual slides from your Keynote presentation, and then import them into your DVD application.
I use DVDStudioPro - it works fine this. I'm sure iDVD will be OK.Going via QT has never worked for me.

How to create a dvd to play in dvd player from an avi file?
Hi, i have a new macbook pro and have alot of avi files of full length movies (not home movies, box office) and would like to burn to a dvd.
Everytime i convert it to an mpg or something and drag into iDVD it just bounces back to the desktop.
How do i burn an avi file to a dvd to watch in a dvd player.
Have tried the program "burn" which worked a few times but seems to stop working every now and again.
Help please!.AVI is just a file wrapper that can contain content encoded in many ways - several of which can't be used with iDVD.

Transcode quicktime files to play on dvd player
okay, so the situation is I have several short home videos in quicktime *.mov format that I would like to transcode into *.mpg such that I can use dvdauthor to burn these files to a dvd (so that my grandma, who doesn't have access to a computer can enjoy them).
I know the general process for doing this with *.avi files is
transcode -i movie.avi -y ffmpeg --export_prof dvd-ntsc --export_asr 3 -o movie -D0 -s2 -m movie.ac3 -J modfps=clonetype=3 --export_fps 29.97\
which outputs an audio file and a video file, that can be multiplexed together with
mplex -f 8 -o dvd_movie.mpg movie.m2v movie.ac3
however, I'm not really sure how to go about this same process with quicktime files.
any ideas?i use the following in my dvdcopy script before using dvdauthor on the resulting mpeg.
mencoder dvd://$TITLE -dvd-device $DEV -ovc lavc -of mpeg -mpegopts format=dvd:tsaf -vf scale=720:480,harddup \

i'd be willing to bet it'd work with anything mplayer can read by simply changing the `mencoder dvd://$TITLE -dvd-device $DEV` part to `mencoder /path/to/file` to change the input source.
you'll need to define $vbr and $WD (or hardcode them).
