Making website in Indesign CS 5.5

Hi,
I am a big lover of Indesign.
I have read most of articles people saying not to create website in Indesign, but i dont agree with them i started making my website in Indesign CS5.5 .
I am facing one problem "How to center the website in center of browser as most of the website open".
Website size is 1024 x 768. And i have exported html and swf file and uploaded both files in ftp.
My website is www.pixeltodot.com. I am still in process of making the website, but if anyone can help me would be great.

Most Flash developers use swfobject to load a flash site. Here's the download and documentation page:

swfobject makes it easy to add alternate HTML content, which can help with SEO.
To center a SWF you can define a CSS style then wrap the SWF in a div. So the style to center both horizontally and vertically a style would be defined inside the head tag like this:
<style type="text/css">
#wrap {width: 1024px; height: 768px; margin-left: -512px; margin-top: -384px; position: absolute; left: 50%; top: 50%;}
</style>
And then you wrap the content after the body tag with this:
<div id="wrap">
your content here
</div>
Your site loaded in less than 2 secs for me, but there's nothing in the display of the site that couldn't be done with HTML. The only reason to use Flash is for effects and interactions that can't be accomplished with HTML and scripting.

InDesign is very flexible application but designing websites? While you can certainly use it for prototyping, I would choose something else such as the already mentioned Muse or Dreamweaver.
There's a great article by Justin Putney in InDesign Magazine on this, but I don't recall which issue. It wasn't that long ago, though.

Website Logo InDesign or PS

Hi there,
I just started my own site www.kunstendesignveiling.nl and I want to know what would be a better way of designing a logo for my website. InDesign or Photoshop. I know the basic functions of PS but nothing about InDesign. What is more powerful you think?

Will you be creating your logo from photographs or raster image file(s)? If so, photoshop might be a good choice. Adobe illustrator might be preferable if you plan to create a drawing. InDesign seems unlikely to help here, particularly if you have no experience with it.

Flash video game. How to make it playable & put onto website, and Indesign PDF file?

I am making a video game using Adobe Flash 2.0. I need to be able to show what I have through a website (my portfolio) and/or insert it into an interactive Indesign PDF file. The game needs to be able to be played and be used and tested by whoever I send the pdf file to, or whoever is would be view my the site I post it on. I have attempted many different ways to put my game onto my website (cargocollective) and Indesign, but nothing is working! I need help.
For example I need my game to be placed on the website page, and on the pdf document as an image. When it is clicked on I need it to start so people can play the game. I don't know how to do this and I would really love and need to know how! Thanks.

Creating fly-out menus for website in InDesign CS5

Hi all, I've just upgraded to CS5, and am looking into the new release of InDesign CS5. In the past, I had created websites in MS Publisher, and then exported the publication as website as html. I then uploaded the resulting HTML to my website using Cute FTP.
I dabbled around with Adobe Contribute, and still found it rather restrictive, as I could not create coloured text boxes, text frames, roll-over buttons and etc.
Hoping that I'll have better luck with InDesign CS5. I'm intending to create my website from scratch, and when finished, hope I can export the publication in InDesign as HTML.
Just wondering if there is a feature in InDesign CS5 that can create drop down or fly-out menus for a website?

It might be easier to invest in something like Quite Imposing, an impostion plugin for Acrobat. It's far less expensive than a full-blown professional imposition program and if you need to impose a lot of PDFs, it will pay for itself quickly.

Best for making event flyers: InDesign or Illustrator?

Hi everyone, I am new here. I am a novice with Adobe products, but I do have the Creative Suite. I have used Illustrator tons and am very comfortable with it. I used InDesign once to make a pamphlet.
I am part of a charity group that often puts on events. I will be making all the flyers. Printing budget is low and will probably consist of going to Kinkos and printing on A4 paper. So these flyers are really not all that involved, but I want to make them the very best that they can be.
Now my question. Is it better to use InDesign or Illustrator to make the flyers?
And as a bonus, if you know of any sites that might give me inspiration to make flyers, I would appreciate it! I try to keep my eyes peeled and learn new things all the time. I want to give credibility to our group with the flyers, and I dont want them to look cheesy or home-made. Thanks for any tips you might have!

This exact question came up at work today. The person in question was
ordering ID, but it was on the only program available for content
creation for flyers, posters, and all artwork. I suggested that if only
one program for artwork, posters, and flyers, I'd go with Illy. However,
if I had my choice I'd go with the Design Standard package, since there
are uses for Illy, PS, and ID (and of course Acrobat). In the end we
will try to get the package, but the choice if ID or Illy depends upon
not only what you need to do, but what other tools are available to help
you out.
I'd hate to do multi-page documents in Illy (or PS), but I'd also hate
making ID my sole artwork program as well.

I've only seen 1 tutorial about making flash web sites and it uses flash 8 AS2 it's all actionscript but a very good tutorial

Whats a good and easy software for making websites?

I need to make a website for our business, not sure how do this.

Website buidling can be tricky, but there are some great online template builders out there. For my personal website, I use SquareSpace. It's cheap ($90 per year), it's easy to use, and it offers great templates.
Professional website builders need to actually know how to code, which consists of learning computer languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Don't bother yourself with these, as they take extensive training to learn.
Instead check out these sites:
www.squarespace.com, www.wix.com, www.wordpress.com, www.zenfolio.com, www.fatcow.com, and www.asmallorange.com.
In the future, I would go to other forums to ask questions about website building, as it doesn't really pertain to macintosh in particular.

Making website universal no matter what program your viewing it on

I have created a website for my church and I burned it to a cd to view before i publish it.
When I open index.html it only opens the home page and does not show any links to other pages at the top. To view the other pages I have to open each site.html there is...
Also, some fonts and formatting are screwed up. How can I solve this problem and will this happen if I publish it and is viewed on a PC in IE ?? HELP !!

When you intend to save a website on a CD you have to publish to a folder on your desktop first.
iWeb creates an index.html file and a folder, or more folders, with your Site name(s).
Check that you've done that.
The index.html file and these folders you copy to the CD.
You either open the index.html file in your browser or one of the webpages inside the Site folder.
And yes, MSIE does not play nice. That's not iWeb faults.
And use websafe fonts. Or make sure the fonts you use on your Mac are also on the PC. Otherwise a substitute font will be used.
And viewing webpages from a folder is no guarantee for succes. Webpages are designed to be viewed thru a webserver. So use Personal Webserver or publish them anyway.

Please help with making website compatible with all screen sizes

I have recently made a new website using both Adobe Edge Animate and Adobe Dreamweaver.
It looks great and does exactly what I want it to do for the moment. However when using the site on a large screen, anything larger than an ipad mini the site only fills a section of the screen.
Have tried to seach on google for the answer to this and came accross a number of potential solutions.
1, changing the pixel values in Dreamweaver for my site from for example "1024px" to "100%" this sadly did nothing.
2, changing the px values of the Adobe Edge Animate composition from for example "1024px" to "100%" again sadly this did nothing.
3, combining both the above to see if they had to work in conjunction with each other... again though, sadly no luck.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some advice on this issue... I really want to sort it out for this friend of mine.

This is less a DW question and more of an Edge Animate question.
You need to create your Edge Animation project with % or use a Scale-to-Fit method. Manually add some breakpoints to re-scale text, etc... with CSS media queries.

Need help with making website flash banner/header

Can you loop in flash catalyst? I am new to catalyst and flash pro, so I am sorry if this is simple...
I have designed 3 art boards in Photoshop and imported them into flash catalyst. I would like to have the art boards show for about 4 to 5 sec and then transition to the next slide or art board, I need this to happen automatically. Also there are buttons on each slide to redirect to any single art board. Example button 1, 2, 3.
I have already made the links, but I do not know how to set up the art boards to start looping on load of web page. I have seen this done on many websites, am I using the right program? I have both which one should I use? Can anyone recommend an easy tutorial that will show me step by step how to make my art boards transition? Can anyone help?

Making Website name.

Hi,
Ok the first thing I want to say is I love the easyness and the elegance of the now iweb, however, I have one small problem.
This is my first day of using it, and I must have missed a step or something because I cant name my website something like "www.creadvd.mac" right now its "http://web.mac.com/creadvd/iWeb/CreaDVD/Home%20page.html" If I tried putting that on my business card it would have to be 2 inches bigger, and no one would want to spend the time to got there. does any one have any suggestions.

If you want to use your iWeb url, this normally would be sufficient:
http://web.mac.com/creadvd/iWeb
If you want to have a different url, this has nothing to do with Apple. You need to go buy a domain name from Godaddy or someone like that and then use their services to forward that name to your .Mac url. Or put your site on some other server with your domain name.

Making timelines in indesign

Is there a simpler way to make timelines in Indesign other than actually measuring the distance in between points on the timeline to make sure the dates are spaced apart correctly? I can't find any free software for macs that can do what I am trying to do.

Would a multi-column table work for you? Each column width could represent one time unit (hour, day, week, month, etc.) InDesign table and cell styles offer lots of options.
