for our tasks concerning our BW-SEM system we use an Excel list with the following columns: Area (e.g. data basis, operation,...), No. (serial number), Category (e.g. to-do, point at issue), Error(E)/Revision(R), Date of Admission, Description (e.g. technical name of BW object), Priority, Responsibility, Contact Person, Expense (man hours), Status (e.g. open, in process, done), Next Activity from, Date of Completion, Remarks.

We have an ABAP project, how can you estimate total of effort we spend to complete them. Please guide me some ways to estimate the ABAP development project ?

For example: in VB or C++ projects, we measure productivity of developers base on number of code lines per day.

In some development projects I had worked, we used to follow this many metrics but I remember only few:)).
i) To know the total work estimate: You can take all the objects that you have developed and first make a complexity review. There you have to determine if the object is Simple, Medium, Hard or Complex, Very complex. This is a very relative term to establish. Hence use a standard approach in looking at the complexities may be by carrying a Complexity review template/ guideline, jotting all the points and take a weighted average as per their relevance and significance of them to the total delivery.
Now you have a total complexity review done. Just find out if a same kind of project had been done anywhere else and find out what was the number of hours/days spent for each of this degrees of complexities. Say low is 24 hours, medium takes 40 hours, blah blah. Break it down to the level of Technical design, coding, reviews, etc. Now you have a total estimate done. However you should never get biased with actuals as you already have while caluclating the estimates.
ii) Now it is easier to find the productivity as you can find out what was the estimated time to complete and how much did each developer take to complete the job.
Generally the estimates must be done in the initial phase of the project. Also these are very minimal number of metrics which I am trying to tell you. But there is a huge number of them and you could find it out from any quality expert may be auditing software projects for CMM, etc.

Man-Hours Estimation template for BW objects

Hi,
I tried to search for specific templates relating to Man-Hours Estimation for the development of BW objects like Extractor programs,datasources, infosources , Info Providers , Queries , Web reports etc. But I was not that successful.
It would be great if anybody helps me in finding/making such template or the root/means(Links or documents) of creating the template.
I'm sure everyone uses it in the projects.But looking for an optimized,easy-to-use, close-to-reality estimation template.

Has anyone used more than one event for one project?

I have an opinion about Final Cut Pro X that hasn't changed since my first few days with it. I waited to see if I would get used to it. But, after a fair amount of time, I still am not comfortable with 'Events' and 'Projects'. The separation of the media and projects creates more problems than solutions with my workflow.
The purpose of it was to add flexibility for both the professionals and consumers using it, but my first impressions are still the same. The new Event and Project system adds complexity to organization and archiving. I wouldn't write this if it wasn't enough of a hindrance for me, that I encounter constantly. I think the new Final Cut Pro X is incredible, but this issue is definitely important to me.
Has anyone out there used more than 1 Event for 1 Project? Some of us create more than 1 Project for an Event, to make different version of a video, or for brainstorming, or to make a part 1 and part 2 of a video, but I've never had more than 1 Event for 1 Project. I don't need to use the media from multiple Events for the same Project. And I've never used it for a reason. I don't think someone will want to use their Hawaii vacation footage for a Denver vacation project, and a Florida vacation project. I think we should bring back the connection between Events and Projects in a meaningful way.
This is a throw back to the older days, but that's not always a bad thing. Let us keep our projects, or timelines, in the Events folder. Make an area above the JPG section, and PNG section, and MOV section, and call it the Projects section. Then we can easily find our Projects and add a new Project every time we need it, and organize our files quickly - without having to keep track of more windows. Final Cut Pro X is all about being more simplified than other video programs, and I think this goes right along with that idea.

My original fear was that FCPX was just going to be iMovie Pro... It so is not!
People use the interface in different ways. I think that's what most of us like about it, it's flexibiity to accommodate different types of workflows. For me, I use the Events browser mostly like I'd be using the Finder. All the imported clips I use are referenced by the hard disks on which they reside. I know where to find them in the Event Browser and I know where to find them in the Finder. I use a lot of stock footage and therefore *reuse* a lot of stock footage from project to project. I'm not going to re-import duplicates into different events because I don't find that the least bit convenient and I do find it a terrible waste of precious HD real estate.
But that's me.
Some people like to load up everything they're going to use in a single project in a single event... I get that. You can command click your way through a bunch of clips, type E and everything is automatically arranged on your storyline in the order you selected the clips. That is *awesome*!! Instant storyline (/timeline.) Furthermore, for those that need to share projects, it's easier to bundle up the events and projects if they're all together (albeit in two different folders) on one disk (— at least they are always at the top level of the drive and easy to find.)
Keeping your Events media in a different location (satellite drives) and keeping your current project on your *fastest* drive is probably the fastest way to edit (particularly if your satellite drives are Firewire or Thunderbolt [peer-to-peer interfaces don't hog system resources].) There is little cross interference in disk accesses that way. So essentially, you can keep FCPX dealing with original clip data that doesn't need to be quite as fast, reading and writing to slower drives on your system, while letting it plow through the heavy work on your fastest access drive (usually your internal HD.)
By no means is FCPX "more simplified". It has a huge amount of power. It has all the best parts of Color, Soundtrack Pro and Motion built in. It allows you to explore *ideas* in real time rather than having to plan for them a week in advance [layout, round-tripping plans to Color, STP and/or Motion for titling or effects.] You can grab and move around elements anywhere on your "palette" with simple mouse moves and an occasional key press. The list goes on. Bottom line, it doesn't matter how you organize your events or your projects. It's all about the finished product. And for me, I can turn that around in about 1/5th the time (not claiming it's great — but I think better results in 20% of the time, on average, than it would have taken in Studio.) [Not a professional video editor -- I'm a graphic designer, and I develop Motion graphics for FCPX to make all "you guys" look better.]

Change customer for a project!!!!!!!!

Dear Gurus,
I have a project number for which was changed to a supply order.
Just i created the project entering the details.No cost or anything assigned to this.
Now i want to assign this project for another project contract i received now.
I am able to change the project details like name, long name etc.
But i am not able to change the "customers and contacts " and sales man details from Projects Templates.
Can any one able to guide me, how can i edit the customer and contacts.

The easiest way is to abandon this project and start a new one :)
If you insist on staying with the same project, you may add a different customer to the same project.
For the wrong customer go and update the contribution percentage to zero (using Tools > Examine).

Org Management - man power report

I am new to HR ABAP. I have to develop a report on man power. The requirements are as below.
Give the no. of employees in each department. Reports are produced at all levels i.e line manager, senior manager , director and company. For instance when a senior manager generates this report then he should see all the departments that his line managers are handling under him as well as the total no. of employees under him. The same goes for all levels.

Best device to fit for a project

I'm not sure this is the right section but I try.
For a project (less than 100 branch offices and 2 Headquarters connected in an hub&spoke topology with IPSEC over MPLS among branch and HQ) I’m looking for the best device which cover the following items:
Branch:
Single device
At least two Ethernet interfaces (WAN/LAN)
Ipsec supporting 10-50-100 Mbs
Routing protocols such as BGP-OSPF
NAT
Redundant power supply (some site not but in principle I need it)
HeadQuarter:
Single device with XE intf
At least two Ethernet interfaces (WAN/LAN)
IPSEC supporting up to 7-10 Gbs of IPSEC (the sum of branches)
Routing protocols such as BGP-OSPF
NAT
Redundant power supply
Firewall is not needed, MPLS will be runned by two carrier (this is why single device, there will be two single devices (with hsrp/vrrp) per site each one connected to one MPLS carrier), IPSECs tunnels are on-top of MPLS.
I’m looking for the best solution in terms of scalability and price (very important).
I've an idea in my mind but I'd like to share your experience for the decision...

Hello.
I guess for MPLS you would use GETVPN, so ASA couldn't be an option.
For 10M, I would suggest Cisco 892 or 1921.
Up to 50M - 1941 could be fine (for asymmetrical flow), and 2921 for symmetrical;
Up to 100M - 2921/2951(for asymmetrical) and 3925 for symmetrical.
Not sure what to sugegst for HQ, but it should be anything like ASR1000-ESP20 (sure you need 2 devices for HA).
PS: why do you need NAT on MPLS?
PS2: in HQ I would suggest to split IPSec and NAT roles between different devices (ASA would be best for NAT).

Yet there is no any Time-estimation matrix is developed to calculate time for WebDynpro ABAP work .
But I there are couple of factors based on which you can develope your own matrix kind of thing.
I can tell you I am doing Dynpro Developement of around 5 view and with interacton with client we have Give 110 men days for this single application
 Now how I have calculated it ?
Answer
1) I first of all which UI elements will be used and how much we Dynpro team is Aware of It and How mwuch they are complex to use
2) Is there then other depedancy like A ) Client want Classes and methods to be developed and calling methods on click of button
B) It was depedant over one workflow also
So when things are clear about what functionality these 2 things will have my developement was useless
3) how much awareness my consltnant have about OOABAP and basic ABAP stuff that I need in project.
4) Most imp is Businees logic and what exaclty client want ?
how I will do it Dynpro ? Which Dynpro to go for WD ABAP or Java ( In my case we choosed ABAP is find it easy to play in ABAP enviro only ,)
5 ) How many views you have ( genrally 5-6 days for view ) , how much Data transfer among views and Windows you need .
6) Is developent need some backgrond RFC ,BAPI to be implementd .If yes how much time they will take ( In my case I am implementing for mySAP SRM which dont have many table and data which client So I wrote RFCs )
7) Another factor is Documention and following Quality norms . Time for that too.
This overall turns into final time you need .
Time being this much only .

Auto power-on for MacMini with WinXp

Anyone know how to enable auto restart on an Intel Mini running WinXp (bootcamp).
I would like to use the MacMini as media center for some project. The machine must run WinXP. If there's a power failure, I want the Mini to auto power-on again by itself once the power supply recover.
The problem I'm facing now is the EFI. Most auto-restart feature in WinXp only works on BIOS.

Power Cable for Cisco 4900M in China

Recently I want place to place an order for Cisco 4900M switch for a project in China. But I couldn't find the part number for the power cable in this country. The nearest country I could find is CAB-AS3112-C15-AU which is Australia.

No man power to issue how to map this scanario

Pls any one provide a solution for this scanario,
Oil is received (say 50000 ton) and stored at one location. There is no man power to issue it from that location.Worker comes there with pail (bucket) and collects oil and go. Over a period, the remaining oil is measured (using dip), if oil goes below the minimum level once again PO raised.How we can map this
into SAP.Its not a pipeline material.

Go through the following steps
1] Assume that today 5000 L of oil is received in the tank.
2] The person collect say 50 L from the tank. Now quantity 50 L is not known to the person who is resposible for stocks because there is no manpower available.
3] But as you stated before, physical stocks can be take with the help of dip.
The person will take dip and will found level 4950. So he will simply issue 50 L ( 5000-50=4950 L).
The same will be continued evereday.
But the problem is how to monitor the stocks and when to procure oil.
For this reason, maintain MRP Type VB with reorder point for example say 1500 L
Continuing the above procedure with stock will reach to the 1500 L, automatically PR will be generated.
With this PR, Procurement cycle will be continued.

Which DVDs are good for storing projects.

I tried to burn a family video project (iDVD) on a blank (newly purchased) Verbatim DVD-R (MCC03RG20 discs made by Mitsubishi Chemicals and branded for Verbatim). This is the message I got: "Unable to burn project. (The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.)"
Then I could burn the same project on a plain Sony DVD-R. And it worked.
I am trying to burn my family movies on good quality disk that is why I bought the Verbatim disks. But it seems they are not good???? Please help!!!
I also burn 1 copy of my projects on Verbatim Gold Archive DVD-Rs for long term storage. These are burning as well.
What is wrong with my "plain" Verbatim disks. I want to use these for every day viewing so my kids can load them in the player, lose them etc. That is why I bought these cheaper versions for the everyday use.

So I assume nothing wrong with my plain Verbatim but maybe my Superdrive is dirty. But why would it burn other brand DVDs?
Taiyo Yuden DVDs have a 100-year data integrity guarantee. Made in Japan, not China.
I have found DVD+R to be more reliable than DVD-R. The only disadvantage to DVD+R is that DVD players manufacture before 2003 may not play them.
DVD+R disks are better than DVD-R disks because of the increased error correction technique used for the newer +R type.
I would recommend Taiyo Yuden DVD+Rs. I get excellent results using iMovie 06 with iDVD 09, (and sometimes iMovie 09).
This may be the best media if money is no object.

However, my contractor requested me to give him in Watt as UPS is provided to it. Can anyone show me the formula to do so?

The basic rule of physics that "watts = volts x amps" is based on direct current (DC) circuits. AC is more efficient but when it hits the transformers, it suffers from reactance.
Reactance reduces the useful power (watts) available from the apparent power (volt-amperes). Power Factor (PF) is the ratio of these two numbers. Therefore, the actual power formula for AC circuits is "watts = volts x amps x power factor." Unfortunately, the PF is rarely stated but generally is a number of 1.0 or less, and about the only thing with a 1.0 PF is a light bulb.
Figure out total loading of product Amps (A) Watts (W).
Multiply voltage by amps (V x A).
VA x 135%= the size of the UPS you would need.
* Estimated Average Growing Space 135%

A. Ex: 1 PC= 2A 1 Monitor=1.5A, Total= 3.5A
3.5A x 120V= 420VA x 130%= 546VA.
