Manage multiple users backups

Hi, I try to explain my situation and all my troubles with Time Capsules.
Here @ work we have around 20 apple computers all running latest OSX 10.8.2 and I use 3 different 2TB Time Capsule to store and balance users backups.
During last 3 years some user is gone, some new arrived so Time Capsules are still storing unused and unuseful backups.
Moreover we changed computer and users would like to start brand new backup.
Is there a way to manage different users backup? I really need to delete some old Backups.backupdb folder.
If I try to access the time machine from my MBP I just can see of course my folder.
Is there out there some administrative tool to manage what stored in my Time Capsules?
I expected from Apple to have more controls on "Utility AirPort" application, but the only thing I can do on my TC disk in to initialize it... we cannot just initialize a disc every time we need to mange it.
Any solution?

There are plenty of third party software..
CCC, superduper and chronosync.. being the most often quoted.. I use TM to a non apple NAS and occaionally free superduper to make a disk image.
Apple made the TC very difficult to use as you seem to want to use it.. in that, you cannot properly partition it. You can create disk images.. see
http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Q3 he goes through setting up disk images.
If you create a disk image for each Mac, then it makes it fairly easy to delete and recreate an image when you need to. Although you are now going to use the space somewhat less efficiently in that disk images will be of fixed size. I think this is not really as big an issue as it might seem as TM handles multiple computers connecting to the TC very poorly.
I am rather more a hands on person.. I would pull the hard disk out of the TC and parition it properly on a Mac.. and put it back in the TC.. this voids the warranty of course. Which is what makes the TC so useless.. it is a sealed device.. there is no other NAS which seals you out of the hard drive to fix, format, replace, repair.
You can hang multiple hard disks onto a TC via USB.. that will work for wireless but is extremely slow for ethernet.. and certainly USB disks are not without issues.. and latest Mac OS has been making a mess of reliable connection to them..
Otherwise a Synology or QNAP NAS.. Setup different user login for each user.. then use TM or one of the alternatives.

  • How can I Manage Multiple Users?

My wife and I both want to organize and edit our digital photos with PSE10.  Up until now, I have managed all of our photos by myself, and I have synchronized all data on both of our computers (and backed up all of our data to an external harddrive).  Now that my wife also wants to organize and edit our photos on her computer, I am finding it difficult to synchronize the PSE Catalogs and photos on our two computers.  So, I am looking for a better procedure.
Should I (and can I) keep my PSE Catalog & Photos on:
    (1) an External Harddrive (which would be connected to only one computer at a time, while that computer user is organizing and editing photos), or
    (2) on a Home Network location where both users could access the photos for organizing and editing (with a "lockout" for photos which are being edited by the other computer user)?
Are there other good or better procedures for managing multiple users of PSE?
My computer is running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit.
My wife's computer is running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

Thank all of you for your replies.
    Re SOFTWARE CHOICES:
I decided that my wife and I will each use different software on our different computers.
I decided NOT to upgrade my wife's software from "Windows Live Photo Gallery" (WLPG) to "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" (PSE).  After a detailed discussion of my wife's wishes, I discovered that she only wants to (1) move our pictures into folders, (2) cull the pix, and (3) create "Album" folders (with only our most memorable pix) to be printed as 8.5" x 11" pages for the Albums.  She wants me to crop, edit, add captions, and print the Album pages.  See the image at the bottom for our current Photo Mgmt Plan.
I will continue to use "Lightroom" (Lr).
    Re SYCHRONIZATION:
I decided that we both can use the same picture files.  I use "GoodSync" to sychronize files between my computer and my wife's computer (and between my computer and my backup HDD).
My wife's "WLPG" does NOT appear to use a database.  My changes (including "Keyword" edits or adds) show up in her "WLPG" program, when picture files have been changed by myself in "Lr" and sychronized with her computer.
After my wife adds folders and/or changes the folder contents, I sync her computer with mine.  I open her folders (which are now also on my computer) in "Lr", and "Import" any of her new and duplicate pictures into "Lr".  Surpisingly and thankfully, the pictures that have been moved to a new folder by my wife do NOT show up in "Lr" in the previous folder (i.e. I do NOT have to find and delete any "Missing" images which were in the previous folder location).
Re MULTIPLE USERS OF A DATABASE:
I do not need to use this now, but I read that "Lr" is designed to work with the "Lr" database (and pictures) on an external HDD.
Thank all of you again for your very helpful replies.

  • How do we manage multiple users in a CAL account

    Hello Gurus,
A colleague of mine has created an instance of HANA in CAL and I'd like to access it because we need to develop together, but we're not sure how to do so. We can see tabs "Accounts" and "Users" in CAL but how do we add someone else's user to your own CAL account?
Ideally, we'd like to both manage the same account (to start/stop the instances) with our own separate users. Should be very easy to do and yet there's no indication on how to do it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Daniel,
Lemme explain that in detail so that, you have a clear picture on this :-)
    For Paid Subscriptions:
    >> The pricing works per active instance, per month: so you can have only one active instance at a given point in time in your CAL account. This means you should see only one instance under the "Instances" tab in your CAL account (the state of the instance can be active or suspended but as long as you see an instance under the "Instances" tab - it is counted as an active instance).
    >> If you want to create another instance (a new solution instance), then first you will have to terminate/destroy the previous instance under the "Instances" tab so that, the Instances tab is empty and then you can go ahead and create a new instance. You can do this multiple times and create multiple instances from the solutions library as long as you follow the above mentioned rules.
    For Free Trials:
    >> The above restrictions do not apply for free trials and you can create multiple "unique" trial instances in parallel. For example: you can create one trial instance for BW on HANA trial and in parallel you can create another trail instance for ERP on HANA and another instance for CRM on HANA (so you can have 3 different trial instances running in your CAL account at the same time under the "Instances" tab) but you CANNOT create two instances of the same trial (so you cannot have two instances of BW on HANA trial in the same account).
    For Users:
    >> You can add multiple users from your organization in your CAL account and give them administrator or read only access to the solutions instances in your account.
Btw, thanks for bringing-up this question, I will add this to our FAQ section as this would be helpful for everybody.
Hope this info. helps and lemme know if you have additional questions.
    Best Regards,
    Adarsh

  • Best way to manage multiple users and multiple devices?

I would like some advice on the best way to manage iTunes and devices synced to it for multiple users -- Here's the scenario: I have 2 grade-school aged kids, who each have an iPod Nano and are going to get my old iPhone 3G to use as an iTouch after I upgrade my phone to the iPhone 4. In addition to my iPhone, I have a MacBook, a 30GB iPod, and a iMac. We are also looking into buying an iPad that we'll want to use (among other things) to watch movies while traveling. All music/apps/movies are currently located in my iTunes account on the iMac, and we sync via my personal @mac.com account.
I don't want to simply set up separate iTunes accounts for each kid, as I'd like to be able to control what music & apps they buy/download, and I've already got a fair amount of "their" music/apps/movies in my account, and don't want to have to try and move it from my account to theirs. Any advice on how to best set up an iTunes sharing arrangement that allows me to control their accounts, and sync all of the above devices would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • CS4 - Color Management - Multiple Users

    All,
Here is what I hope to be a question that some of you have encountered and solved already. I've tried dealing with Adobe on this, and even went as far as to purchase a pricey Gold Support Program, but that has turned out to be a waste of money so far (response times are horrible, and the "engineers" cannot seem to provide anything more than basic application usage support).
I am running CS4 on Windows 7 and I am looking to set up a custom CSF file for standardizing our color management policies across all of our CS4 apps. The workstations will be used by multiple users, so we configure the default account as we would like, and have new accounts replicate off of that.
The problem we are having is that the CS4 apps, and especially Acrobat, what CSF files in:
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Color\Settings
When I place the CSF file there when I am customizing the default user account, the file would then reside in:
    C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Color\Settings
The problem with this is that when new user profiles replicate off of the default account, the CS4 apps prefs point it to that folder for their CSF file, and I get errors, because the new profiles will not have privs to read from that directory.
So, in response to this, I have created a folder in the root of C and stored the CSF there. In Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign I can load the CSF file from that location manually. Unfortunately, Bridge doesn't see's only the current users color settings folder, so it cannot see it, but if I set the three apps above before I launch Bridge, Bridge recognizes the CSF. The issue is Acrobat, which seems only to see "Custom" for color settings.
Further, when new profiles are replicated off of this setup, it breaks entirely.
So, what I'm hoping is that someone here has had to configure color management for CS4 in a mutliuse environment, and that you may have a strategy for this.
Is there a way to specify the CSF file for each of the apps with a registry key? This would be easiest...
    Please, any thoughts are welcomed.
    Matt

    Further testing yields these clarifications:
Putting the CSF file in a folder in the root of C seems to work well for Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. They are happy to have it there and work well in the Default account, and in user profiles that are replicated from there.
Acrobat still displays "Custom" in the list of drop downs for CSF files in Color Setup. The settings look to be configured properly, but the name of the CSF file is not shown, which makes us nervous.
Bridge does not like this at all. Previously I had seen it show the CSF file in the list if all the other apps had that CSF file specified, but I cannot recreate that condition. Currently is says that the suite is not synchronized, and it wants to apply one of the standard CSF files supplied with the suite.
Please help! This should be easy!

  • How to manage multiple users/devices/Apple IDs on a single computer

I got my 8 year old an iPad mini for Christmas and I'm about to set it up but I need some advice on using multiple IDs on one computer. I have an iPhone 4s. I assume I will need another Apple ID for the iPad mini so she can use Facetime. How do you manage two devices with different IDs on one computer? Will my movies and music be available for the iPad mini ID? What happens when I plug the iPad into my computer? Do my iPhone apps on my account disappear? Do I need to log out of my iTunes store account? Is their a danger in mixing the two accounts? I was told to be careful if you plug another iPhone into your computer because it can wipe your phone and replace it with another users info if you don't log out/in correctly. It's very confusing so if anyone could give me some advice on how to set this up and manage two IDs and devices on one computer it would be helpful. Thanks:)

This should be of some help.
How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer
Your daughter is too young to have an Apple ID because the minimum age is 13 years old. You can use her email address for FaceTime and Messages. You add the address as the contact address when you activate both of those apps. But both apps will still have to be tied to your Apple ID.
I was managing 5 different devices with one iTunes library and all devices had their own unique content on them. It is not that difficult to manage.
there is lots and lots of information out there on how to do this. Check some of these out for more information.

  • How to Manage Multiple Users' Playlists

Hi - Can someone tell me the best way to manage playlists from more than one user on a single computer running Windows XP. In my case, I have four people in my house using a single computer. Each person has their own iPod and there own iTunes library. I would like to be able to download my own library plus one other person's music library (not all four) onto my iPod. I figured out a way to do this some time ago but it seemed clunky and I almost lost alot of music. Can someone explain the "right" way to do this? Thanks...

You are doing what I do at home. My music is stored on a network drive though.
This is one of the recommended methods for people to manage different iPods. The most important consideration now is whether you are using users accounts or if everyone is running as admin. Also, where the files are store matters. If you are using default location the it will be /user/My Documents/My Music/iTunes.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
As long as a user can access files in the other users' folder then all you have to do is use the add file or add folder function to add the files to your own library.

  • Managing Multiple Users

I am teaching FCP to high school students. I have five media classes totaling 110 students. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to manage my macs (I have eight G4's and eight iMac's). I want to be able to manage the computers so that the students won't be able to mess with other students projects.

If you don't have a server you'll need to create individual user accounts on each computer. Without a server you should just divide the computers among the class members assigning each student (or team) to a specific computer. Of course if the computer goes down in the middle of the assignment...but there's little you can do about that. If like me, you have lots of students with iPods, you might want to encourage them to back up their work onto the pods, or to flash drives. And being paranoid, I'd consider burning a CD each Friday.
If you have a server...well, I found out that my G4 server couldn't handle a large class given the amount of bandwidth video requires. So I created a video class account on each computer and then taught students to copy their project from their home to the local computer each day and then back to the server at the end of the day. This ate only a few minutes each day but kept us all from pulling our hair out during the class when suddenly things ground to a halt.

  • How do you manage multiple users, iTunes and icloud

I haven't figured this out yet.  I have an iTunes account, two daughters who buy most of the music on it but we all share the account.  We all have Macbooks and iPhone 4 or 4S.  I don't want to download their music and they don't want to download mine.  How do we blend iTunes, iCloud and our phones and Macs without so much cross-pollination?  I already have music in my library that has been downloaded since I got my new iPhone and activated iCloud and it's music they purchased.

  • Multiple users on a single iTunes account

I am wondering if anyone knows how one will be able to manage multiple users under a single account under the new iOS5. Let me explain. In my house my wife and children download content ( movies, music, app) under my itunes log in so we can decide to watch the movie on my computer or my sons iphone without running into DRM issues. With the automatic syncing of pictures with iCloud I dont want my pictures and hers being mixed up but would like to each have an account. The problem is that I dont want to loose the ability of having the same DRM account for different itunes account. In other words, is there a way to associate a couple of me.com (icloud) emails / accounts to be associated with one itune store purchase account to be able to take advantage of sharing content with in the family. My apologies for the long winded question but I couldn't explain it any other way.:)
Any insight is greatly appreciated. thanks

This is from a MobileMe page, so it may not fully apply, but it suggests you'll be able to use separate accounts for iCloud and iTunes.
    http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html
If I use different accounts for iTunes and MobileMe, can I merge them into a single account and use it with iCloud?
No. You cannot merge two accounts into one. However, you will be able to move your MobileMe account ([email protected]) to iCloud and, if you choose, you can continue to use a different iTunes account for store purchases and iTunes in the Cloud.

  • Can you have multiple users on one apple Id and utilize iCloud?

My family shares an apple Id and we each have multiple Apple devices. When we use iCloud we "cross pollinate" each others devices with contacts, calendar events, etc.  is it possible to manage multiple users on one apple Id with iCloud activated or are separate ID's required?

iCloud isn't designed as a multi-user service. Either you all have the same ID, and all your data is available to everyone, or you all have separate IDs and keep your data separate. You can share calendars, so that for example you could all have your own calendars but have one which is common to everyone:
    http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a9479
If you want to share contacts you will have to do it manually. If you want to do file transfer you will have to find a third-party alternative.

  • Restrictions on using multiple user tasks in parallel ?

    Hi there,
are there any restrictions on creating / managing multiple user tasks sequentially or in parallel in a BPEL process ?
Sometimes my BPEL engine (OC4J/2.0.11) generates an error about "unregistered object ..." and the BPEL process failes.
The BPELConsole then is not able to display the process state anymore.
    Thanks,
    Wolfgang

There should be no restriction on how many task you can run in parallel. The only requirement is to use distinct partnerLinks (the partnerLink is statefull and embedded the correlation information).
If you are combining flowN and tasks, you can achieve this by using local partnerlink (not supported by the designer but supported by the engine so a local partnerlink can be added to the process using the XML source representation of the BPEL).

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Here adding to the words of “Tim”, a forwarder is a DNS server on a network used to forward DNS queries for external DNS names to DNS servers outside of that network. You can also forward queries according to specific domain names using conditional forwarders.
A DNS server on a network is designated as a forwarder by having the other DNS servers in the network forward the queries they cannot resolve locally to that DNS server. You can refer information regarding forwarders and how to configure from beneath link.
