Manage user in sql developer
i would like to ask about how to manage the user to the same db. as db in the same server. but i want to create different user will have different view of db.
how can i manage it using SQL Developer.
If you have an account with DBA privileges on the database you can use SQL Developer's DBA module.
Select View|DBA from the menu. This will open an additional connection browser. You can expand the tree to show Security -> Users

How create new user in sql developer?
so i tried creating a new user in SQL developer, under the worksheet section, for a 12c database
create user Hares1
identified by book;
but I get this error
SQL Error: ORA-65096: invalid common user or role name
Sorry I know this is a generalized question. I only learned how to actually connect today - any help of a next step would be appreciated.so i tried creating a new user in SQL developer, under the worksheet section, for a 12c database
create user Hares1
identified by book;
but I get this error
SQL Error: ORA-65096: invalid common user or role name
The 'next step' is RTFM. Sorry but for 12c multitenant you simply MUST read the documentation about the new multitenant architecture.
Your 'problem' is not creating a user with sql developer - it is how to create users in 12c.
See my extended comments and reply in this thread (and several other threads I reference there) which addresses your exact problem
12c: ORA-65049: creation of local user or role is not allowed in CDB$ROOT
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db121/homepage
I suggest you first read chapters 17 and 18 of the Concepts doc about the new multitenant architecture of 12c.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16655_01/server.121/e17633/part_consol.htm#CHDGDBHJ
The 'Common Users in a CDB section answers your question
>
The name of every user-created common user must begin with the characters c## or C##. (Oracle-supplied common user names do not have this restriction.)
>
There are two types of users in 12c: common and local. You need to understand the difference between them.
Until you read those doc chapters you won't understand these terms: common user, local user, CDB, PDB, root container, and many others.
As I said in that other thread:
You will NOT be successful working with 12c unless you have read and understand the new multitenant architecture that it uses. There are very simple things (connecting, startup/shutdown, creation of users, grants to users, etc) that just don't work the same old way anymore.
If you try to just 'plow through it' without reading about it you will likely get an exception that you won't understand and it will likely use a term (CDB$ROOT) that you won't understand. Then you will hunt all over (or worse, ask in the forums) to find out about that term.
Yes - I know how adverse some people are to RTFM replies. But for 12c multitenant it is mandatory to read the docs no matter how expert you may be in previous Oracle versions. -
Show Current Connected User in SQL Developer
Hello,
Is there a way to make SQL developer display the user that is currently connected?
For example, in the Connection tab, instead of just the database name show something
of the lines of "USER@DATABASE" or "DATABASE -- USER"
or in the SQL Worksheet Page?
Sometimes you connect and you don't know with which user you connected.
ThanksWe do have this listed in our task database with the other connection requests. These will not be addressed in the next update, but in a future release.

SQL developer hangs on Win XP if not admin user
Hi, I just installed Oracle 11g on Win XP sp2, as admin user.
Things appear working, except for SQL Developer which runs fine only when logging in to XP as administrator.
If I log in as a normal user, then SQL Developer hangs forever just after being started up, eating 50% of CPU. Task manager is required to stop it.
A few more details: it hangs just after asking about file name associations, showing on the left panel the connection I did while being admin.
SQL Plus runs just fine in any case.
If I run the alternative version (sqldeveloper.exe), the involved window reports:
WARNING: Unknown directive: SetSkipJ2SDKCheck
Using oracle.home=C:\oracle\app\Admin\product\11.1.0\db_1\sqldeveloper
Using ide.user.dir=null
Addin: Translator PlSql is trying to register a input type (.plsql) which confli

javax.management.InstanceAlreadyExistsException: com.oracle.jdbc:type=diagnosability,name=main11.0
at com.sun.jmx.mbeanserver.RepositorySupport.addMBean(RepositorySupport.java:452)
then the ide windows hangs as reported above.
Any help is appreciated.- sqldev is slower - and yes my machine is fast
- sqldev needs a mouse; the keyboard shortcuts are severely lacking
- output window is separated from SQL window
- It doesn't show me anything I couldn't get to before by typing commands & using TextPad
As far as sqlplusw.exe vs sqlplus.exe, I won't get into that discussion- all I'll say is that the "workarounds" on the Internet have not addressed my concerns. (control-c exits by accident, having to edit every shortcut on every computer/server I touch which either needs admin elevation or shortcut copy/paste or both, etc)
Either way- thanks again to sperkmandl for the solution (running sqldev as non-administrative user)! I never run on my machine as local admin; I only elevate when needed. -
SQL Developer extension for APEX workspace management
Hi everyone,
I've put together some SQL Developer extensions - one of them provides APEX workspace management
from within SQL Developer when connected to the database as SYS. A screenshot and a short
description is available here:
http://sql-plsql-de.blogspot.com/2009/09/erweiterungen-fur-den-sql-developer.html?lang=en
You can download the zip archive directly from here (the blog posting contains this link also)
http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=20225:2:0::::P2_SUCHWORT:sqldev-ext
Try it out - if you like it: Please give me feedback; if not: please do also

Looks very nice and I really like idea. Great job !
For futher development idea:
I like see that individual workspace admin could use same kind plugin, connecting DB with user that is assigned to workspace and manage only that WS properties.

Sql developer 1.2.1 failed sys user login
Setting up a connection with the sys user in sql developer connections return invalid username/pw.
I have the role set to sysdba.
I can connect as non sys users with sql developer.
I can connect via sqlplus with the sys user and pw.
What would cause me not to be able to connect with the sys user with sql developer?
ThanksThis is the Oracle Designer forum. Not the SQL Developer forum.
Please repost in the proper forum. -
How to user ORACLE as username in SQL Developer
Hi,
I am new to sql developer. Could you please tell me how do I connect as "ORACLE" user in SQL developer?
I have full privileges using sys & oracle. I tried using sql as sysdba too but it is not accepting it in spite of providing correct password.>
When I tried connecting to the database as " username - sys as sysdba" in spite of providing correct password, it says, logon denied, incorrect username/password. The oracle database version is 10.2.0.4 & sql developer is 3.5.
>
Are you sure you are using Oracle's sql developer?
This is the official product page
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
IT shows the current latest version is 3.1.07.42 so Oracle doesn't have a version 3.5 yet.
And the official product does not have a " username - sys as sysdba" selection anywhere that I can find. There is a role selection dropdown that includes a SYSDBA choice.
So you provided information that can't possibly be correct and you did not respond to any of the questions that I asked other than DB version.
If you want help you need to provide SPECIFIC information about what steps you have taken and what results you got.
What steps did you take, specifically, to create a user called "ORACLE"? What user was used to create the "ORACLE" user? What grants (roles & privileges) were granted to the user named "ORACLE"?
As for me, since you are not willing to provide information about the other questions that were ask I can't help you so I wish you luck. -
SQL Developer High Memory Consumption 3.2.20.09.87
Hello,
I have been using SQL developer for quite some time and had initially had problems in the past with high memory consuption when I use this tool.
I have received and applied advice from this forum and while it had helped a little, the majority of the high memory consuption remained an issue.
I finally got more time to dig around and try to specifically isolate where the problem seems to be coming from and here is what I found.
*1)* I have removed the Check for Updates feature
*2)* I have turned off many of the extensions except for DBA Navigator, Real Time SQL Monitoring, SearchBar and Snippet.
*3)* When I start a fresh SQL Developer Session and initiate a Oracle Connection the application consumes roughly 148 meg fo RAM
*4)* When I open my Windows Task Manager and watch the memory allocated to SQL Developer I notice it goes up when I move my mouse over the SQL Developer tool and When I run through menus at roughly 5k a second or so and the memory is never released back to the system.
*5)* When I run a Large SQL to the grid the memory jumps by about 100 meg or so and will continue to do so every time I repeat the SQL until SQL Developer consumes roughly 748 meg of RAM.
*6)* 748 Meg of RAM seems to be the number when SQL Developer (with one Oracle connection) no longer continues to consume more and then not return the memory to the system.
Is there a way to have SQL Developer automatically clear up it's active memory usage without closing it down and restarting it?
Why does SQL Developer continue to consume more and more memory just from moving your mouse over it and/or by navigating menus?
Here is my About Detail;

Thank you.
I applied fixed noted in Re: Reduce SQLDeveloper memory footprint with JDK 1.7
For others, to summarize my changes.
product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf
AddVMOption -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions
AddVMOption -XX:+UseG1GC
AddVMOption -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50
AddVMOption -XX:GCPauseIntervalMillis=200
AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=128M
AddVMOption -Xms50M
AddVMOption -Xmx384M
AddVMOption -XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=10
AddVMOption -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=10
product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf
comment the following two lines as shown below
#AddVMOption -Xmx640M
#AddVMOption -Xms128M
Now SQL Developer runs at roughly 500 meg.
I guess the only thing I have left to ask others reviewing this would be if there is a way to get these memory values down without having much adverse impacts on SQL Developer based on newer JVM switches/functionalities.
The posts that drove these changes are old from a technologoical perspective :) 2010.
Tom -
Unable to connect using SQL Developer.
Hi,
I am having a hard time connecting to the database instance using "Cloud Connections," in SQL Developer.
I am using the information found in here: http://docs.oracle.com/cloud/CSDBU/develop.htm#BABDBHJA to connect to my cloud-service, but all I get is an error:
"Authentication Failed Invalid resource owner credentials."
I am positive that I am using the same username and password as when logging in to could.oracle.com.
Can anybody help me?Apologies for any difficulty you have been having.
I would start by reviewing the white paper on data movement. My guess is that you have not defined an APEX user with SQL Developer privileges (yes, I know the process could be more clear - it's getting there.)
You can find the white paper here - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/database-cloud/public/data-movement-wp-1844121.pdf. Please make sure you follow all the steps properly, for both initialization and the actual connection.
Hope this helps.

Administration of APEX in SQL Developer with Proxy Authentication impossibl
Hello!
We are using latest version of SQL Developer to administer APEX. We are connecting to the database with proxy authentication. The syntax is:
personal_user[apex_ws_owner]
e.g.: mdecker[apex_demo]
When trying to deploy APEX application I go to "Database Object" -> Application Express -> Application1 [100] -> right mouse click: "Deploy Application". Then I select the appropriate database identifier and next, I am presented with a screen showing import options. In second line, it says: "Parsing Schema: MDECKER".
This is wrong: it has to be Parsing Schema: APEX_DEMO. It seems that managing APEX with SQL Developer does not support Proxy Authentication.
Could you please confirm?
Is there a way to formally ask for this enhancement?
Best regards,
Martin
Update:
I found out that if I check the flag "Proxy Authentication" in the connect details and provide both passwords, the deploy application parsing schema is set to the correct APEX_DEMO account. However, we are using Proxy Authentication in order to avoid having to know the application password.
Edited by: mdecker on Jan 28, 2013 4:48 PMThere is a write-up about connecting to APEX here: <a href ="http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/sql_dev_integration.html" >SQL Dev Oracle APEX Integration</a>
<p>You do need to have updated to Oracle APEX 3.0.1.

GeoRaptor Release 2.1.1 (Build 3) Available for SQL Developer
Folks,
On 7th July the GeoRaptor development team released version 2.1.1 Build 3 into the public domain.
It can be downloaded from:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/georaptor
This release has a very large list of functional additions and enhancements. A summary of these can be read at the GeoRaptor wiki:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/georaptor/index.php?title=Main_Page
For example, now you can run VALIDATE_GEOMETRY_WITH_CONTEXT and actually have GeoRaptor take you to the errors that are described in the error string that the Oracle function returns! There may be other tools that do this, but I do not know of them: just this functionality would justify the expense of buying GeoRaptor if you had to pay for it, but you don't!
Please download the release from our central site and recommend it to other users of SQL Developer and Spatial.
Also, if you find bugs (a bug in the handling of null geometries in the validate geometry menu has already been fixed - no patch is available as yet for this) or want to request enhancements please visit the GeoRaptor SourceForge page and enter your bug/enhancement request.
Finally, GeoRaptor is an open source development project. If you want to join and help in any way (not just programming), just let us know.

SimonHi,
The original GeoRaptor had some documentation but it has not been updated.
It is a task on the development list but it has a low priority next to the developments we have planned for the next release. (The main ones being the ability to map the whole, or part, of a SELECT statement executed in a SQL Worksheet - including export to shapefile; the addition of multiple SRID-aware Views to enhance the current single, SRID-unaware view; length/area tools; line and polygon selection tools.)
The attribute and geometry tabs in the pane in the lower half of the spatial view will appear when an "identify" operation is executed and selected data exists.
The split into attribute and geometry tabs was done to better control the visualisation experience of a user. The original Geometry tab displayed a single geometry in a non-standard way and allowed a user to drag select ordinates which could then be mapped. The button should have been removed in build 3 but it wasn't. It will probably do nothing. Perhaps in the next release we might replace the button with an ability to select and individual geometry, highlight it and show its points or even show elements in a multi-element geometry eg show me inner ring 2 in the first outer-ring of a multi-polygon. Don't know. If anyone wants this type of functionality register an enhancement request on the sourceforge GeoRaptor website.
Remember, GeoRaptor is an open source, community driven tool. If you want to help by writing documentation eg a simple one page wiki page on how to validate geometry etc (it doesn't have to be a whole manual), or contribute code, let us know. Or if you simply like the tool or want an enhancement, let us know.
It is hard writing a tool in the vacuum of one's own experience (no matter how considerable that might be) in a land far, far away (I live in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia), to let us know how we are going......

APEX 3.0.1 and SQL Developer integration - what is it?
Hello
In the Apex Release 3.0.1 page, it reads "Supports direct integration with Oracle SQL Developer 1.2.". What does this exactly mean? I looked at the patch notes but could not find any info... I am not a current user of SQL Developer (long way to go to get close to PL/SQL Developer's PL/SQL development functionality IMHO) but wouldn't mind giving it a try depending on what this "integration" means...
Thanks
LuisHi Earl,
I have blogged about that some time ago. See http://inside-apex.blogspot.com/2007/05/what-is-your-favorite-plsql-development.html
For me the main advantages out of many are
-) real code completion. Also for local variables, parameter,... and not just for tables/columns.
-) showing unused variables, enforcing coding styleguides -> shows warning if you don't use the correct prefix for your parameters/local variables/...
-) powerful template system with placeholders, conditions, autoreplace
-) Refactoring support
I think the biggest drawback of SQL Developer was (has been fixed I think with 1.1) that you couldn't do file based PL/SQL development.

IBM DB2 to Oracle Database Migration Using SQL Developer
Hi,
We are doing migration of the whole database from IBM DB2 8.2 which is running in WINDOWS to Oracle 11g Database in LINUX.
As part of pre-requisites we have installed the Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.1 (4.0.1.14.48) in Linux Server with JDK 1.7. Also Established a connection with Oracle Database.
Questions:
1) How can we enable the Third Party Database Connectivity in SQL Developer?
I have copied the files db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar from the IBM DB2 (Windows) to Oracle (Linux)
2) Will these JAR files are universal drivers? will these jar files will support in Linux platform?
3) I got a DB2 full privileged schema name "assistdba", Shall i create a new user with the same name "assistdba" in the Oracle Database & grant DBA Privillege? (This is for Repository Creation)
4) We have around 35GB of data in DB2, shall i proceed with ONLINE CAPTURE during the migration?
5) Do you have any approx. estimation of Time to migrate a 35 GB of data?
6) In-case of any issue during the migration activity, shall i get an support from Oracle Team (We have a Valid Support ID)?
7) What are all the necessary Test Cases to confirm the status of VALID Migration?
Request you to share the relevant metalink documents!!!
Kindly guide me in-order to go-ahead with the successful migration.
Thanks in Advance!!!
Nagu
[email protected]Hi Klaus,
Continued with the above posts - Now we are doing another database migration from IBM DB2 to Oracle, which is very less of data (Eg: 20 Tables & 22 Indexes).
As like previous database migration, we have done the pre-requirement steps.
DB Using SQL Developer
Created Migration Repository
Connected with the created User in SQL Developer
Captured the Source Database
Converted Captured Model to Oracle
Before Translation Phase we have clicked on the "Proceed Summary"
Captured Database Objects & Converted Database Objects has been created under PROJECT section.
Here while checking the status of captured & converted database objects, It's showing the below chart as sample:

We have seen only "Missing" in the chart, also we couldn't have any option to trace it in Log file.
Only after the status is VALID, we can proceed with the Translation & Migration PHASE.
Kindly help us how to approach this issue now.
Thanks
