Managed Clients and printing list

Hi,
we have discovered the following problem.
When a user logs in on a machine that other users have used before, the new user sees all the printers that were assigned to the users before.
They are NOT displayed in the Systemsettings, but ARE displayed in the printing list thats used while printing.
It seems that CUPS only adds printers and does not care if the user should see them or not.
Deleting them in CUPS and relogging does the job, but this is not a clean way to handle this.
Can anyone help?
regards
Oliver

Modify the /private/etc/authorization file so that all accounts have the right to change the DVD region. The initial and subsequent region changes are different rights.

  • OSD with Configuration Manager Clients and PKI certifications

My team and I had just set up PKI Certs on our System Center 2012 R2 Server. We want the opportunity to utilize Out Of Band Management, but we also would like to make our OSD available to the following "Only Configuration Manager Clients." I have
done some testing and have found that without PKI enabled we have been able to use this feature. Once we enabled PKI we could only perform OSD through PXE or Boot Media.
Is there a way to have PKI enabled but also allow OSD's to be available through "Only Configuration Manager Clients"?

Thanks for the reply, I will relay the info concerning OOB. It is not necessarily a technical problem we are running into, more of an inconvenience. OSD works great as long as you make your TS deployment available through Boot media or PXE. Our end goal
is to create a zero touch environment. To do this I was thinking of making the TS available only configuration manager clients. With PKI I loose that capability and it forces me to use boot media or PXE.
Is there a way to have PKI enabled and still be able to deploy TS with only configuration manager clients, and no other deployment method?
    Thank you again.

  • FIM CM Bulk Smart Card Issuance Client and Printing Smart Cards

    Hi,
From what we are reading, the Bulk Smart Card Issuance Client can be used to Issue and Print Smart Cards - what does MS mean by 'print smart cards'?
Do they mean 'print on smart cards' like for instance users photo's?
Or would we still need to utilize something like ID Works Software?
    Thanks

With FIM-CM you are limited to which software Middleware and printers you can use (at least the version I am running FIM 2010).
We are running ID Works Enterprise Edition 5.1 on a windows 7 x32 workstation.
CM now supports ID Works Enterprise Edition 6.51 which supposedly can work on an x64 system but we haven’t tried it.
One thing to note is the cm software patch.  The CM Update allows the bulk client to be installed on windows 7.  But you can't install the client on windows 7 to apply the patch that lets it run on 7.  The work around is the Microsoft released
a copy of the bulk client with the patch already applied.  This worked fine for the install.  But we got errors when we tried to connect to the CM Servers.  It couldn't find the templates.  Turns out the dlls in the patched bulk client
were newer than the .dlls on the CM server, and this was breaking the notification.  We patched the CM server, and everything was good.
For Printers we got 2 SP75 plus Datacard printers.  We wanted the higher capacity, and the ability to laminate both sides of the card.  We got two for coverage so we will have one when we have to send one in for repair.  (Not saying that the
printers are "bad” but they take a lot of abuse printing, and need a lot of care).
Although the Plus printers aren’t listed in the supported printers, we got confirmation from MS that the Plus worked (they replaced the older ones), but that the newer 95's probably wouldn't.  (I think they are a different kind of printer).
One more data point to add.  Work out your Pin Policy before you buy your cards.
We got our cards first, and then figured out our PIN policy.  If we knew our PIN Policy at purchase time, the manufacture (Gemalto) could have set it.   We have been working on ways to set it using CM.  But have finally given up.
We figured out how to set the PIN policy using APDU commands, and CM can do application management via APDU commands.  But it looks like it can only do that for Java Cards, and not the .net cards (yet, we keep hoping).  So we are going to set the
Pin Policy before we bulk print.  And when we order our next set of cards, we will order them with the PIN policy set.
Over all I am very happy with CM.  and there is a lot more information on setting it up now than there was a two years ago (thanks a lot to Paul Adare and Brian Komar,  who I am beginning to think are the same person.  Has anyone actually
seen both of them at the same time?

  • MacBook Pro not recognising printer and printer list empty

my MacBook Pro isn't recognising my printer. This happened before Yosemite update. I looked in the printer list and my printer was the only one there. On advice I deleted it and tried to re add it. There are no printers in the list to click on. I have a canon MP280. I upgraded to Yosemite and still no luck.
i Also wanted to ask if my printer can be attached to a BT home hub.
    Thanks in advance

  • Managing Friends and Family List

Several months ago I added 10 numbers to my Friends and Family List, which allows me to make and receive calls to any number or network in the U.S. without using plan minutes.
After just being notified that I have an overage on voice minutes, I checked the list.
All previously entered numbers have been removed.
    Why did this happen?
And does Verizon notify customers when F&F lists are deleted?
Seems to me that if I am making no changes in my plan that Verizon shouldn't be making changes in my plan either.

My guess is when you entered those numbers into the F&F, you had a 1400 minute plan. You THEN at some point dropped down to a 700 minute plan. The problem is that the 700 minute plan HAS NO F&F numbers. When you dropped down to that minute allowance, all of your numbers were deleted as you do not get any at the 700 minute allowance.
When making the switch from 1400 minutes to 700 minutes, you ARE warned that your F&F numbers will be lost. I know this because I have made this switch in the past and received the warning at that time. I went ahead with it anyway.
When you subsequently increased your allowance back to 1400 minutes, you now have 10 available F&F numbers but you will have to re-enter them as the previous ones were not saved.

  • Managed Clients and Time Machine Quota Not Working

We operate a Mac OS X 10.6.4 Server with 10.6.4 Clients; the clients are all bound to the OpenDirectory and all the laptops should be backed up using TimeMachine Server. Therefore we created a computer group which contains all the client machine records of the laptops and defined managed TimeMachine preferences for this computer group:
    - the TimeMachine server URL: afp://server.domain.tld/TimeMachine/
    - „startup volume only“, „skip system files“ and „back up automatically“ are enabled.
    - and a backup limit of 50 GB is set.
If I run „mcxquery“ on the laptops, the settings are displayed. And the TimeMachine backup works.
But … but the size limit of 50 GB isn’t respected, all client images grow „infinitely“.
    $ mcxquery
    com.apple.MCX.TimeMachine
AutoBackup laptops (Computer Group) always 1
BackupAllVolumes laptops (Computer Group) always 0
BackupDestURL laptops (Computer Group) always afp://server.domain.tld/TimeMachine/
BackupSizeMB laptops (Computer Group) always 51200
BackupSkipSys laptops (Computer Group) always 1
    What am I missing!?
    Thanks
    Alex

I presume the bought a time machine means a time capsule.
How did you migrate the Time Machine files?
From where? A Time Capsule or external drive?
It is difficult to get TM working with Yosemite.. since it doesn't work after the upgrade on the old TM backup.. it will not work on the migrated files either.
You simply start a new backup and store the old backups for a few months until you are ready to dump them.
The instructions for inheriting old backups is B5 and B6 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
However it is just unlikely to work.. TM in Yosemite is very different. Broken even.
I also strongly recommend people to use Carbon Copy Cloner or some other 3rd party backup until Apple get the bugs fixed. And after several months.. they are still rampant.

  • Managed Clients Printers and wrong Printernames

    Hi,
we have managed clients and assign printers through the WGM.
If for example the client uses the "ad dept"printer the printername in the dock, while it is printing says "finance dept" but prints to the correct printer.
I have spoken with other admins, that also use WGM and managed clients/printers ad they have the same situation.
Again: The detination is right but the name of the printer in the Dock is wrong.
I looked in the detailview in WGM and found nothing irregular.
Is there a way to handle this?
    regards
    Oliver

We had a wierd problem with HP printers giving the wrong names... we had to change the printers mDNS name. Dunno if this helps

  • Archived print lists don't show up in OADR

    Hi,
I went through all customization steps in IMG (Archivelink Basic and Print List) and ran some Archivelink tests with print lists. I managed to archive some print lists, but cannot see any of them in OADR. Is there anything I may have missed? On the archiving system the index information file for the print list has length 0, which also looks strange.
I'm working with an IDES 6.0 EHP4 system.
    Any thoughts on this one?
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Photoshop CS5 Print Printing problem: print count and print to ICC profile

Since Adobe still haven't acknowledge the printing issue with CS5, I start this thread to report my own problems.
    Problem 1:
print copy count is not working. The first print is always one print regardless how many copies you set in the dialog window. The next print will actually print the copies set in the previous print job.
This is a well documented problem, and until today no fix.  I am not too worried about this problem because I can always print one copy each time to get job done, until the day Adobe acknowledge and fix the problem.
    Problem 2:
when I let the Photoshop manage color and print to a custome ICC profile (generated by Spyer3Print), Photoshop RANDOMLY decides to print a light colored magenta cast picture.  It's like Photoshop has used the wrong ICC.  Now every time I print a 13x19, I have to pray.  Because this thing is so random, I can't even reproduce the problem consistantly.
here's the information about my system:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit (not a fresh system) with 8GB RAM.  Printer drivers installed: Canon Pro9000II, Canon MP600, Epson 1400.
I experience problem 2 after I installed CS5 with Epson 1400 printer, but not too frequent.  Later on I installed drivers for Epson R1800, Epson R2400, and I mainly print with R2400.    All the printer drivers, software updates are the lastest available.
I was a software developer. I wrote windows application before. I am pretty sure the problem is with CS5 based on my knowledge.  If I wrote an Windows application that crashs Windows or another party's appliction, I certainly would not blame Microsoft or another party for not writing a bulletproof system. I would try to find a workaround in my own application.  That's just my take. Adobe may have different mind set. They are still pointing finger to MS and Epson.

I don't condone the problems, but a workaround I've recently read about for the copy count problem is to do the following, in order:
    1.  Set the copy count you want.
    2.  Click the Print Settings... button to enter the printer driver setup dialog.
    3.  [OK] out.
    4.  Print
This is reported to get the proper copy count into the print driver and make it "stick".  I just tried it and it seems to work.
Keep in mind you may want to go through this again after printing to get the copy count to default back to 1 for the next print.

  • Config Manager Client issues

    Hi,
We are having a problem site wide with the objects.data file for the WMI repository being bloated up by the config manager client. Once the repository is bloated up we are seeing many issues such as slow log on times, group policy failing, high CPU
utilization and eventually corruption of the repository.
To illustrate this I built a machine, and installed all windows updates including the hotfix rollup for domain joined computers.
At this point I recorded the repository size.
I then installed the configuration manager client and waited.
    Within an hour this happened;
Periodically from this point CPU utilization would max out.
I then used the tools available and found that there are millions of entries from config manager in the repository.
According to the WMI teams blog, 300mb+ is very large for a repository. We have hundreds of machines now with repositories between 600mb to a gb in size.
My question is this, is this intended behaviour? the performance impact and logon issues caused by this behaviour are forcing us to consider replacing config manager entirely.
Just to add, we are running Config Manager 2012 SP1

    OK,
This for anyone else that has the same issue.
CU2 did nothing to improve the problem. I do however, know what's caused it. The problem is related to using Configuration Manager to deploy windows updates. If I disable the update agent and try the same tests on a machine the repository does not bloat.
Another poster mentioned earlier about a large number of policies- we don't have that- unless you include the fact that every update seems to count as its own separate deployment rather than one deployment per update package.
So if Configuration Manager is designed to store information about each update in the objects.data then I'm assuming that's why the repository is so large- a recipe for slow machines and crashes.
Basically using Configuration Manager to deploy windows updates seems like a very bad idea at this point- unless I'm missing something.

How can I access my parents iCloud account remotely to assist with photo management and printing?

I tried that without any luck. I was hoping I could get Apple to reset it for me or delete the account so I could recreate it or at least tell me what is listed as my birth date, the security question answer.

  • Color management for web and print.

Hi there.  I would like to post my images and have them print ready for clients.  When I read about both of these I find one thing for web and one thing for print. I don't want to edit them twice. What would you suggest for easiest workflow?  I like to post the images in an online gallery for my clients and if I really like them maybe use on my homepage.  Do I have to edit twice or what is the optimal setting for a photographer.  I do mostly portraits --family, baby, couples, etc.
I am pretty well versed in actual editing processes but my understanding in this portion is still lacking.  I am trying prophoto rgb on photos today, but will this compromise my online quality?

    brwmmw wrote:
…I knew of this option but did not know if it was optimal quality…
You define the quality of the saved image in the Save for Web and Devices dialog box.
    brwmmw wrote:
…I have just been… using same files for web and print.  I wanted to increase quality across the board in print and web…
That is absurd!  (Sorry.) By doing that you are generating unconscionably and unnecessarily large image files.  You're clients won't like that.
Remember that you have no control over how anyone sees your images on the web.  Something like 97% of Internet users are running non-color-managed web browsers and uncalibrated monitor.
You and you're clients are best served when you stick to the lowest common denominator, namely sRGB images, for web.
    brwmmw wrote:
…What mode do you use for prints?…
Personally, I like to stay in 16-bit ProPhoto RGB when I print my images myself.  If sending them to a pro lab, I discussed it with the lab techs.  But I have gathered a lot of experience by now.  One really has to know exactly what one's doing to edit in ProPhoto RGB and stay in that color space.  If sending my images to a cheap lab like Costco, I stick to 8-bit tagged images that I soft-proof with the specific printer profile that will be used by the local store.
You should—and probably do—know that ProPhoto RGB has a very wide gamut that includes colors that cannot be printed by many printers, and it's up to you to compensate for that.  If you run into problems with ProPhoto RGB consider converting to Adobe RGB for print.  Make sure the printer drivers that will be used to print actually support 16-bit printing, otherwise convert to 8-bit.
Since you're a pro, I would warmly recommend you watch the video tutorials comprising the "From Camera to Print - Fine Art Printing" series by Jeff Schewe and Michael Reichmann, that are/were available for download from the Luminous Landscape.  They're working on a new 2011 edition, but the 2008 edition was just superb.  Best $35 or so I've spent in a long time.
