Managing Widgets?

Hi, I like widgets stuff in apple, but I had a problem. At first I couldn't have my widgets in my desktop I had to have them in my dashboard. But then I learned how to have them in my desktop. Then there was another problem. The widgets that are in the desktop stay above any other window, which means that even if I am working in Safari or any other program they would be in the way, and I had to move them all the time.
Is there a way to manage the widgets that are in the desktop to be behind any other open window? and they still show up if I pressed my desktop icon I see the desktop and the widgets as well in there?

Hello Yousif, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your only option is to use the shareware program Amnesty. Amnesty allows you to move widgets onto the desktop AND select their window level. It also allows you to apply transparency, scaling and rotation effects to widgets (and all sorts of other extra features).
And if you use the "Desktop" level in Amnesty, the F11 Expose shows you only your desktop and your widgets, exactly as you want.
Amnesty is shareware though, so you have to decide whether these features are something you're willing to pay for.

  • Manage Widgets dashboard widget won't close

    Hi
I put the manage widgets widget in dashboard up so I could delete a widget and it didn't work. None of the widgets showed up in the list and nothing loaded. I can't close it now. Nothing happens if I click on the x in the corner or if I hold option and click it. How can I close the widget?

    I'm slow this morning, sorry.
    From your users account...
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Scroll down to where you see your widgets .plist files. Drag those to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. See if that unlocks your Manage Widgets window.
Also, Repair Disk Permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.
If that doesn't help, select the Manage Widgets window then press Command + R.

  • Manage Widgets feature inoperable in Snow Leopard

Unlike many others, my existing widgets seem to work normally. Unfortunately, when I click on "Manage Widgets", nothing happens. It is inoperable. Any thoughts?

KT has already noted the same thing; I had to try it out before I posted.
I'm not sure what is wrong. Sometimes, a plist could be corrupted. Look in your username/Library/Preferences folder for a file called com.apple.dashboard.plist. Move it to your desktop and try managing your widgets. If it doesn't work, try restarting and then try again. If it still doesn't work, you can move it back into the preferences folder and replace the one that is there.
The system will recreate the plist, but you'll probably lose any customizations you've made to some of the widgets and which ones are showing. I removed mine and restarted to see what would happen. It didn't reset anything until I restarted. The Dashboard reverted to the default, but all installed widgets were still there.

  • How to manage widgets in Mountain Lion?

I am running OS X 10.8.2, and in dashboard, when one clicks on the Plus sign, there is no manage widgets button, only a more widgets button. I wish to delete downloaded widgets. Have tried library widgets file, but downloaded files do not appear. Any help please?

When you finish downloading a .wdgt file, it appears in your downloads(by default, you can change the folder). If you open this file, it gives a dialog: "Install (the widget) ?". If you click "install" or whatever the install confirm button is (I don't remember), it will take you to dashboard and opens the widget.
If you want to delete one, click the "+" and then the "-" (minus sign). The widget icons will vibrate like the icons on launchpad, if you click the "x" it will ask for confirmation to delete the widget.

  • Dashboard Manage Widgets is Hung

I see default widgets. I can add or remove widgets. When removing any widget, [Problem 1] I do not see the X image but a blank white rectangle; I click the rectangle and the widget is removed.
[Problem 2] When I click the Manage widgets, I do not see any screen opening up. I have checked if it is hiding. I want to Manage widgets and am not able to do that.

  • "Manage Widget" Icon gone

    Hello,
I accidently removed the "manage" widget icon from my dock. Not the "dashboard" icon which displays which widgets you currently have active but this one (just the round icon, not the background:
It came loaded on the dock when i got the laptop and I actually thought it couldn't be removed. Anyway, thanks in advance for any advice or answers

    That's not a good sign, I get...
I guess you could Try making a new Folder there called Resources & putting that file in there.
But I'm worried how this could go missing...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Reboot & see if it's there now.

  • How I manage Widgets in Lion ?

I want to delete a Widget.

    Hi,
Click on the Dashboard Icon - near the left side of the Dock. Click the Plus sign, the click manage Widgets. Add or subtract what you will.
That's the way it works for me.
    Cheers,

  • Manage Widgets not opening up

The little (X) in the lower left screen that you use to click on to manage your widgets is not opening up. I have widgets in the folder (library) but the widgets manager is not there. How can it be restored or downloaded from somewhere?

Restarting did not help but I have since found a solution by deleting all my widgets in the widgets folder in the HD library. Then I verified disk permissions (go to Utilities/Disk Utility/select HD/First Aid then click Verify Disk Permissions). Restarted and downloaded new widgets from apple.com. It worked.

  • Manage widgets won't launch so I can't delete widgets

Everything fine until I downloaded some new widgets today. Guess one is messing it up.
Is there a way to manually uninstall widgets until I find the offending widget or could it be something else?
    Thanks for any help
    Tel.

You can find widgets you've downloaded and installed in your home folder's Library/Widgets folder. Simply move the widgets you want to delete to the Trash, and then relogin (or restart) so that the offending widget is no longer loaded.

  • Missing widget manager and Widget widget in dashboard

I just installed 10.4.3 on both my computers (Tiger family pack). Dashboard works fine on my iMac but on my PowerBook G4, I have no Manage Widgets button and no Widget widget in my Dashboard items. The Dashboard icon is in my apps. Cmd= (command equals) doesn't help.
I'm stuck on what to do.
    Thanx.

  • Widget Manager - Corrupt Display Issue

    Hi
    Long time reader, seldom poster.
It is not often that I make use of the Apple Widget Manager, but during a break in social activities I noticed that I no longer had the Widget Manager icon on the dashboard. Clicking on the 'Manage Widgets...' button did nothing.
Trashing the preferences and repairing permissions brought it back, for a while. It has since disappeared again and the button has resorted to doing nothing.
When the icon did appear something very strange happened.
    [] Click 'Manage Widgets...' button
[] 'Widget Manager' would appear on the dashboard, completed boilerplate.
[] The widget would then build the list of Widgets to be managed.
[] On completion of the list, the boilerplate would turn into '?' icons.
[] The list of widgets is there and clicking on the various '?' would do
whatever the function underneath is supposed to do.
My understanding is that the '?' indicates that it could not find the graphic to display, but the graphic was there before the building the list of widgets.
I used Pacifist to reinstall the System/Library/WidgetResources from the 10.4.8 combo, but no change.
Any ideas as to what I should try now ?
    Thanks in advance
    Richard

  • Widget Manager won't let me enable widgets.

Every time I open the widgets bar, it shows all disabled but about four. At some point I used Widget Manager to disable the others, but now when I try to turn them on, the manager won't allow me. In fact, when the WM loads it shows under Computer Widgets all active, but when I mouseover them, the buttons turn grey, showing off. When I click on one to activate it, the message that comes up says, "Widget could not be enabled. You must have Administrator privileges to alter widgets in the Computer category."
I am the only user and the Administrator of this machine. Why can't I alter these? And in the User category, even if I click on the button and it shows active, it still shows the widget as disabled and it won't open.
How can I make my widgets work. And if someone could point me to an explanation of the different layers here (computer, user) and how I can manage them together, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks, Tonia

I take it you're referring to this Widget manager and not the one that came with the 10.4.2 update. If that's so:
The difference between the Computer and User sections would normally be dependent on whether the widget files are stored in HD/Library/Widgets or HD/Users/<username>/Library/Widgets. The first, being owned by the system, would require an admin password to make changes to enclosed files.
Since there is a Widget manager built into Tiger (accessed throught the Widgets widget or the "Manage Widgets" button above the Dashboard bar, it would probably be easier to use that one instead of the third party downloaded widget. Even you choose to continue using the same one, you should make sure that settings in the Widgets widget are not conflicting or the cause for your problems.
If all else fails, try trashing the preference file for your widget manager in <username>/Library/Preferences/ The filename should start with widget-com.

  • How can I remove a third party widget

I downloaded a noisy third party Homer widget (on leopard) and now can't remove it.
The finder search instructions say use f12 (but for me that is the volume control), I used f4 to open widgets but can't see anything for managing or removing widgets. The finder instructions say open with + but I can't see a plus or a manage widgets command.
    Thanks.

Open up Dashboard, then click the + in the lower left corner and add the widget called "Widgets". With this widget you can manage your widgets. If you want to get completely rid of a widget you need to delete it in the Finder. Go to /Library/Widgets or ~/Library/Widgets and delete the corresponding .wdgt file from there.
