Map middle-click to command

Hello everyone, lately I've been trying to map my mouse buttons with some success.
I am using imwheel to map the two thumb buttons like this:
# Change desktops
None, Thumb1, Super_R|Down
None, Thumb2, Super_R|Up
But I thought of using the middleclick to switch imwheel configs, so I can have 2 modes for the thumb buttons.
I looked around the wiki but I didn't find anything for middle click, only how to make a keyboard button act like it.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Another idea would be using the two thumb buttons as a modifier for the mouse wheel. For example:
Thumb1 + MouseWheelDown = Super_R|Down
Thumb1 + MouseWheelUp = Super_R|Up
Thumb2 + MouseWheelDown = Super_R|Right
Thumb1 + MouseWheelUp = Super_R|Left
But imwheel doesn't map an action to two mouse keys.

You could do it using xdotool, I think.
Alternatively, using a tool like parcellite, annamnesis, etc.  (there are a few) you could sync. the CLIPBOARD and PRIMARY so that when you copy from xterm, CTRL+V will then work to paste in X. There are some usability issues with that (selecting text in a text box will overwrite the clipboard preventing pasting in on top) but most people are able to get a reasonable system sorted with a little tweaking.
EDIT: see here for some details http://standards.freedesktop.org/clipbo … ds-0.1.txt

  • Mapping middle key to command in a form

    hii,
please help me to map middle key in handset to a specified command added in a form?

Supposidly it's possibly through a CustomItem. I've never worked with it though.
    http://www.it.uc3m.es/celeste/docencia/j2me/docs/api/midp/javax/microedition/lcdui/CustomItem.html
Mind you, this means you'll have to program all of the Form functionalities yourself! (That or copy the original Item you want to use and add your own bit of (key input) code, if that works..)

  • On OS X, middle click and command-click do not open bookmarks in a new tab

On OS X, middle clicking or Cmd-clicking on a link, or on a bookmark on the toolbar, opens that link in a new tab. However, middle clicking or Cmd-clicking on a bookmark in the Bookmarks menu opens the link in the current tab.
In the case of middle clicking, I am using an external mouse. Cmd-click fails to open a new tab from links in the Bookmarks menu both when using an external mouse, as well as when I use my MacBook trackpad.

  • Middle-clicking woes in X11 Apps using a mighty mouse

    Hi,
This has been a frustrating issue ever since I got my new work computer (it's been over a year and a half) and I've just suffered through it. While middle-clicking a half dozen times today until it worked, I finally decided to ask to see if there's a solution other than scrapping the mighty mouse.
The problem is that when I use XEmacs (an X-windows app I use for coding), I like to use the middle click to paste, but I almost always manage to make the scroll-ball scroll inadvertently which causes the middle-click to not work and hence, nothing gets pasted. I know that there are other methods I could utilize, like setting up option-left-click or by command-c/command-v, or by using menus, but that's not what I want. I just want to highlight and middle-click. I want to have a middle-click that works with one try every time. I use all the clicking surfaces, so I don't want to map middle click to some other button. Is there a way I can tell X11 to ignore the scroll and middle-click anyway? Can someone give me a pointer on how to middle click better? This is crazy.
    Thanks,
    Rob

Have you tried an alternate Mouse driver?
    USB Overdrive
    <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13443>
    SteerMouse
    <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27620>
I think they have demo modes.
Personally, I use a Logitech mouse with about 9 buttons. My scroll wheel can be pushed left or right. Left is configured to Copy and Right is configured for Paste. Via USB Overdrive it does Command-C/Command-V for Mac applications, and the correct thing for X11 applications. That is to say, I can have the buttons do different things for different applications.

  • Is there a way to assign the mouse middle click

    hello all,
I have a graphics pen , and I wish to assign the middle click ( the button that is on the pen ) to switch the foregrou and background color. It is mor handy when painting. is there anyone who knows a method , generally I want to know if I can assign other buttons besides keyboard, like signals from a midi console ?

I already tried that, but the driver interface has no other posibilities than mouse left/right click and middle click (and double click) .
now I am thinking if there is a program that makes a bridge between mouse and keyboard commands. I searched, but no results so far.

  • Middle click paste no longer works correctly zsh

After a recent update my middle click to paste no longer works right. Instead or just pasting "x" it will paste "00~x01~". I tried terminator and rxvt-unicode and they do the same. This is a recent issue that just started after an update. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Edit: This seems to only happen sometimes randomly. Also, when it does my home key and end key does not take me to the beginning and end of the line.
Edit2: Seems to be related to zsh. When I switch to bash this doesn't occur. Looking into it more. (Edited title). Here's my .zshrc (removed irrelevant stuff):

youngunix wrote:"Middle Click" does it mean pasting text using the wheel in the middle of the mouse? <<Sorry, never heard of that before, that's why I'm asking>>.
I don't use zsh, yet when I've used it (or any other shell) to paste text I just use [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[V] and to copy text from shell use  [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[C].
    I hope that helps!
Yeah. Pasting by clicking the middle button. It works if I do not use this plugin so I will just leave it disabled I guess until I figure this out.

  • X11 middle click paste in pane should goto location but doesn't since upgrade to 3.6

In unix / linux up 'til now the x11 middle mouse button click maps to "paste". If ff received a middle click paste in the main pane it would act as "goto location". Hence if you blocked google in a window and middle clicked in firefox firfox went to google.
Since changing to 3.6 this has stopped working.
Forget "open location" or "cntrl+L" as these do not implement this functionality (obvious really since they highlight the text in the location buffer the X11 text buffer is overwritten with the current location and not where you need to go).
This was a <really> useful feature in firefox - does anyone know how to make it come back?

I am now pretty sure this problem was caused by the "switchproxy" addon - I can't find the source of this addon now and I think it has been replaced by multiproxy switch which works in pretty much the same way without the side effect.
Enabling switchproxy disabled the middle paste button, disabling it or removing it reversed the problem.

  • Trackpad Middle click or 3-finger click to open new browser tabs

I can't figure out how to use the "Middle-Click" feature of most browsers to open a new tab.
Can we not use a 3-finger click on links to open in a new tab? The only way I have found is by using a USB or Bluetooth mouse, or Command+Click. Too much work!
Is there a way to middle click, or 3-finger click on the new MBP?
    thanks!

I almost didn't reply to this because you did in fact answer the question below, but thought that it might be good for you to take a different perspective you have on control/command+clicking being "no extra work".
Let's stop for a second and assume not everyone has the ability to use both of their hands! Perhaps from an accessibility perspective it would be extremely helpful to be able to do what most people can do with both hands seamlessly from the trackpad alone. I know a lot of people that purchase macs because of their great accessibility features. I still do not understand why Apple didn't implement a 3 or 4-finger click (****, even 5), it just doesn't make sense to leave that up to aftermarket developers.
Personally I don't have this problem, and I have yet to find a third party solution to it, including multiclutch. I want to be able to three finger click because I'm lazy and over the years of clicking it will save me time and effort. If you added up all the other "small" savings of time that I have implemented in my workflows, then I guarantee that it was worth taking the time to hunt for, learn, and use them.
UI experts will tell you that the excuse, "well, just learn to do it the way it is" is why they make the money they do. Just because you don't feel you need a feature doesn't mean that it's ridiculous that someone else would like to have it.
I will continue to search for an positive solution to this question, and when I find it, I will make sure I come back here and let everyone know.

  • Middle-click on Link not opening new tab

Yesterday Middle-click on Link stopped working to open a link in a new tab (or close a tab if I Middle-click on the tab).
    V. 27.0 (Auto updates turned on)
Window 7, 64 Bit, Home Edition
Was running no add-ons outside extensions for Java, SilverLight, and Adobe and Wacom, and Norton (Disabled as of about 2 months ago)
I HAVE tried starting in FireFox Safe mode with all add ons disabled, problem still persisted.
I uninstalled Firefox, cleared my preferences, and reinstalled, same issue.
I have check the configuration files (I found the command for it in other help topics) and the command line for it is Enabled (I disabled and enabled it again just to check).
Under options, I have it also set to open new windows, as a tab
The ONLY thing that I had done that could have changed anything, was I ran Mal-ware Bytes, and Spybot S&D, before the problem started. However I have run both programs in the past and they have never caused this issue to start after a scan.

My middle click stops working if I show the menu bar. Middle click works as expected if the menu bar is off and just the Firefox button is at the top. Windows 8.1 and Firefox 28.
    Hope this helps

  • [Solved] Split Tmux window prevents middle-click from functioning

I have an annoying problem with Tmux.  If I open a TTY and run Tmux in just the one window my middle-click/paste action works properly.  However, if I split a window my middle-click merely changes which window should be the active one.  I realise I could disable mouse support and get the correct middle-click behaviour I desire.  However, I'd like to keep my middle-click/paste function with my mouse.  Does anyone have a solution or pointer to a possible way to keep both functions intact?
    Thank you!

Hi karol, yes I meant to say a terminal window in X, i.e., xfce4-terminal and roxterm.  Pasting text only fails if I have tmuxvsplit its active (currently focused) window either horizontally or vertically.  The pasting function fails even if I create a new window and then split that one within the tmux environment too.
    My .tmux.conf:
#~/.tmux.conf - tmux terminal multiplexer config
    # Based heavily on Thayer Williams' (http://cinderwick.ca)
    ## Environmental Options
    # Enable tmux to use a 256 colour terminal
    # Provided the underlying terminal supports 256 colours, it is usually sufficient to add the following to ~/.tmux.conf:
    set -g default-terminal "screen-256color"
    set -g terminal-overrides 'xterm*:smcup@:rmcup@'
    # Set clock colour.
    setw -g clock-mode-colour green
    #setw -g clock-mode-colour blue
    # If you SSH into a host in a tmux window, you'll notice the window title of your terminal emulator remains to be user@localhost
    # rather than user@server. To allow the title bar to adapt to whatever host you connect to, set the following in ~/.tmux.conf
    set -g set-titles on
    set -g set-titles-string "#T"
    # open a man page in new window
    bind m command-prompt -p "new-window 'exec man %%'"

    ## smallest client connected to that session, even if both clients are
    ## looking at different windows. It seems that in this particular case, Screen
    ## has the better default where a window is only constrained in size if a
    ## smaller client is actively looking at it. This behaviour can be fixed by
    ## setting tmux's aggressive-resize option.
    setw -g aggressive-resize on
    ## mouse-select-pane [on | off]
    ## If on, tmux captures the mouse and when a window is split into multiple panes
    ## the mouse may be used to select the current pane. The mouse click is also
    ## passed through to the application
    set -g mouse-select-pane on
    ## Upon starting to use tmux, I noticed that I had to add a noticeable delay
    ## between two characters in a command sequence for it to recognize the
    ## command, for example between the C-a and n in C-a n. This is because tmux is
    ## waiting for an escape sequence. Fix that by setting escape time to zero.

  • Safari4: middle-click open new tab sometimes busted

It looks like middle-clicking to open a new tab breaks when target= is specified in the html. I'm not 100% that its the target= that breaks things, but it seems to be consistent. This was not an issue with 4 beta. In these situations, apple-clicking still does open in a new tab.

I am having the same problem. This link, from "tribalwars.com" will not open in a new tab with a middle-click.
    ++
    + B01. Tethys=- (641|208) K26+
command-click still works, as does right-click "open in new tab"

  • In firefox 3, when I middle clicked a link, it would open in a new tab for me to view later, but it wouldn't go directly to the tab; in firefox 4, it does. How do I get it to work like before?

E.g. if I was on google and middle clicked a search result, I would still be looking at google, but the page I opened would be loaded to the right side.

Google search and other websites have a user preference that can be set to open a search result in a new tab or a new window, for users who are logged in to their website.
Otherwise, when you don't have a 3-button mouse or a scroll pad with "middle-click" functionality, you can use '''{Ctrl + Click}''' to open a hyperlink in a new Tab.

  • Troubleshooting middle click quirks

    Hello All
New to the world of lenovo.   I am trying to troubleshoot an issue where the middle mouse button randomly works and am trying to figure out if it is hardware or software related.
    Some info
    Hardware: Lenovo x230
    OS: Ubuntu 12.04.2 (64bit)
    Kernel: 3.5.0-23-generic #35~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 25 17:13:26 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Desktop environment: Cinnamon 1.6.7 (also tested with Unity)
    What happens:
In terminal if I middle click I would expect it to paste, some times it could take two or more clicks
In firefox if I middle click on a link I would expect it to open in a new tab, some times it can take two or more clicks to work, frequently it will stop working after the first successful middle click
scrolling in firefox/terminal/any window with middle click and the pointer works consistently.   I also have a logitech m570 wireless mouse which behaves as expected.
Has anyone experienced similar and know how to resolve.  While I have it in the back of my mind that it's a hardware issue it does  not make sense as the pointer+click consistently works so I assume it's software

The video at the link here may help.  If the printer does not recognize the door being opened you could fool the printer as follows:  press copy and once the printer starts going through the motions of printing unplug the power.  Once things have come to rest open the printer and manually move the carriage, then change the cartridge.  Plug the printer back in and power it up, it may take a bit of time for the printer to initialize.

[BUG FIXED, see "EDIT 2" at the end of my post]
I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.
    I hope this helps!
EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:

EDIT 2: GREASEMONKEY HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED with a workaround to fix the problem. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versions/ to install the update manually. It hasn't been reviewed by Mozilla yet, so it won't be an automatic update for another day or two. All credit to "cannonfodder" below for noticing this; please mark his post as helpful!

  • How do I middle click and close tabs in safari? please help!

I am used to google chrome and  adapted to use middle clicks to interact with tabs. My friend introduced me to safari and as i am using macbook pro I think using safari should be more compatible. The only thing that is holding me back is closing tabs with middle click on mouse. I would really appreciate if someone would point me to easy solution for that.
    Thanks,
    Rohan

    Command-W closes the active tab.
