Map visualizations in Power View

As I am currently working on building interactive reports for my client using the Power BI Tools (PowerPivot/PowerView/PowerQuery) I have stumbled upon a visualization issue.
My client is very much in awe of the powerful visualizations possible in PowerMap and the interactive reporting of Powerview. The map used in PowerView however is somewhat simple and far less exciting. Is there a way to work around the situation of the standard
PowerView map and get a better visualisation in the powerview reports? Think of integrating geocoded information such as coloured regions (which is possible in PowerMap) and not just dots/bubbles on the chart.
Can anyone provide me with answer on this issue? Or is Microsoft working on an update to integrate a larger variety of maps into PowerView?
Thanks.

PowerBI (powerBI.com) has some new map visualization such as Filled Map (see image below) and more are likely coming. However, I do not think it will ever really compare with Power Map.

  • Represent polygons in Power View Maps

    Hi.
Is there any way to represent polygons in a Power view map?
This in order to relate the map with the oders reports in Power view. I have the spatial database with the polygons in SQL Server 2012.
    Thank's very much.

    Hello,
If I understand correctly, you want to change the bubbles in the map.
Based on my test, Power view map is not support to modify the bubbles. The circle bubbles in the map is by default. There is an article about Create Map-based Power View Reports, you can refer to it.

  • Power View Cross-Filtering

In Power View, if you have a bar/column/map visualization with a hierarchy (such as category, sub-category) along with other charts of any kind.
If you double click on a column to drill from category to sub-category, no cross-filtering happens. This is confusing because the column chart is drilled into the "bikes" category for example, but all the other charts/tables are not filtered by the
    same category.
This bug is present in "Microsoft Connect"
with this title : Power View Cross-Filtering
I added there also my own comment: In my opinion people "always" expect drilling down also cross-filter other visualizations.
Anyway it will be a good solution to have a "button" to activate or deactivate the cross-filter drill down on the canvas.
It  will be solved or not?

    Hi Mario,

  • Power View in Office 365 vs. Power View in SharePoint

    Hi all,
I am trying to find the best method to get PowerView reports into Dynamics AX. So far, I've simply created a form as ActiveX and navigated to the link to the excel file, but this is not desirable. I read that it is possible to have them embedded into Role
Centers/Enterprise Portal, but I need to have PowerView in "SharePoint" mode.
What are the differences between SharePoint mode and Office 365? Is there no way to export the PowerViews to PowerPoint or as Menu Items from Office 365?
Also, any information or tips on integrating PowerViews/Power BI with Dynamics AX would be great!
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
Power View comes in two different flavors:
    1. Power View as an Excel add-in (free with Excel 2013 Professional Plus)
If you have Office 365 with Power BI enabled, you can create visualizations(Charts etc) in Excel using Power View and publish them to a Power BI site which lets you share, view, and interact with reports. At the time of this posting, there is no way
to export a Power View Report (created in Excel) to Power Point.
    2. Power View, as a Reporting Services(SSRS) Add-in for SharePoint Server(Enterprise Edition).
If you don't have Office 365(with Power BI), you can still publish Power View reports(created in Excel) to an on-premise SharePoint site. You can definitely
Export a report from Power View in SharePoint to PowerPoint
Integration with Dynamics AX - There are several options for integration and here is one of them.
    1. Use Power Query to Discover all the data you need from Dynamics AX (SQL Server database),
Transform and Mashup the data. Create a data model in Power Pivot and then use Power View to create your visualizations and publish them to either an on-premise SharePoint environment or to a Power BI site in Office 365.
I have a Dynamics AX client and they wanted to use Power View. They have a Data Warehouse built on top of their AX database and an SSAS cube (Multidimensional) on top of their Data Warehouse. Since they don't have an Enterprise instance of SharePoint, we
extracted all the data from the Data Warehouse into a Power Pivot model, then used Power View(the Excel add-in) to create the visualizations.
Please take a look at this technet article
Microsoft Dynamics AX integration with Power BI for Office 365
Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • How create animated power view reports using sharepoint list as a data source in sharepoint 2010?

    Hi All,
I got a client requirement to create reports using SharePoint List as data source. The report should show reflection depends on values changed (I mean animation).
I have heard about the power view/power pivot which does this kind of animations in reports.
Can someone please guide me on creating reports which shows animations
In power view/power pivot using SharePoint List as data source in SharePoint 2010.
    Thanks in advance.
    MercuryMan

    Hi MercuryMan,
Yes, Power View, a feature of SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 or SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Edition, is an interactive data exploration, visualization, and presentation experience.
It provides multiple views featuring tiles, slicers, a chart filter, and a number of visualizations, including cards, small multiples, and a bubble chart. So, we can use Power View to do intuitive ad-hoc reporting for business users such as data analysts, business
    decision makers, and information workers.
Currently, Power View report only supports two types of data models: PowerPivot Worksheet, and data models based on Analysis Services Tabular Model or Multidimensional Cube.
In your scenario, you can create PowerPivot worksheets using SharePoint List as data source, deploy the PowerPivot worksheet to a SharePoint Library or PowerPivot Gallery, and then generate Power View reports based on the PowerPivot worksheets on the SharePoint
    site.
To use SharePoint List as data source in Excel PowerPivot, you can refer to the following resource:

This looks like it could be a bug. You could file an issue at

  • Accessing Analysis Services MultiDimensional cube data with Power View in Excel

At this point in time, does Power View in Excel have the ability to connect directly to an Analysis Services multidimensional cube?
If not, is this functionality expected in the near future?
    davidg12

    Hi,
As far as I known, the Power View for Excel does not support the feature yet, please see this article:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj969574.aspx
I copied part of the article here:
    Native support for Power View
With this release, multidimensional models support analysis and visualization by using Power View in SharePoint mode. No special configuration of your multidimensional models is necessary. There are however some differences in how multidimensional model
objects are displayed in Power View compared to other client tools such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Performance Point.
This release does not support analysis and visualization of multidimensional models by using Power View in Excel 2013.

  • Getting Power View on Sharepoint to interpret latitude and longitude correctly

After pulling my hair for a few dozen hours I come here with a simple question.
I have a SQL Server 2012 View - joining 3 different tables, one of which contains latitude and longitude in Decimal(9,6) format.
I have a Tabular model using this view which I push to Analysis services and further on to Sharepoint 2013.
However, when I pull the longitude and latitude columns to the corresponding fields in Power View, the data is just placed standardly in the Artic Sea. Now I have tried changing to and from commas and periods as decimal separator but nothing seems to work.
I can get it to work using Power Map and Power View for Excel 2013 but not on Sharepoint.
I have spent a great deal of time on Google searching for answers but nothing seems to adress this issue, despite it being asked before

I too have been frustrated by this behavior. I also have issues with locations in Puerto Rico showing up in Europe using the zip code and/or state. I've found when I use lat/long things look correct which makes resolving this
issue even more pressing for me.
Unfortunately in the SharePoint construct you cannot control how the api interrupts the address like you can in Excel. I think that is why models in excel recognize latitude and longitude without issue but in SharePoint it's a no go. I have
not tried to see if the tabular construct recognizes lat/long.

  • No more Count (distinct) : Power View in Excel 2013

    Hello,
I used to create a Power View report using this field "Sport" where I choose
     Count (Distinct)
Today this option is not available in the drop down menu. What did I miss?

    Hi,
The issue may be caused the "Sport filed" is modified or it is converted from a text (non-numeric) field to a measure. It shows the "Count" option, please see the

  • Gauges for Excel - Power View

    Hi,
does anyone know free gauges for Excel/Power View like speedometer, thermometer, etc.
    Many thanks

    Hi,
As far as I know, the error message "Bing error: Map tiles not found. A connection to Bing could not be established " will pop up when Powerview map can't access the Bing map server. (Quote From: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/774162/cache-power-view-map )
Thus, I suppose that this issue might be caused by your Network environment changed. When you used the power view map in your company desktop, it might be set some proxy server to connect the Bing map server, but when you put the daskboard to your laptop,
the proxy server had not been set, the powerview map can't find the right port to access the Bing map server. Please check the different network/proxy server settings between work computer and laptop computer.

  • Can Power Map publish to Power BI for Offcie 365, and how...?

I've try to publish workbook containing Power Map tour to Power BI for Offcie 365, I get nothing...
So Power Map is only work  on-premise? Any plan to view Power Map tour in Power BI for Office 365?

    Hello,
I can confirm that the current version of Power Map does not feature Office 365 integration with Power BI. It is on-premise only for now, and we are planning for Office 365 integration in the future.
In the meantime, you might consider exporting your Power Map tours to video or capturing Power Map scenes and sharing those on your Office 365 site.
    I hope this helps!

  • Power view chart gives warning if no of items to display is large. Is there a way to remove it?

    Hi,
Power view chart gives warning if no of items to display is large. Is there a way to remove it?

I think my issue is related, but with a different warning:

What is the maximum number of items to show on a powerview map? I'm now using a report with 1500 locations, which is already too many apparently?

  • Power View Drill Up Missing

I have Power View that contains multiple charts in one view. They all have drill down options. When I drill down through one of the charts, sometimes the drill up, filter, and expand buttons go away. When they do, it's from all the charts. I can't seem to
get them to come back. I end up having to close the document and reopening it back up. Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks,
    Lerina

    Hi,
According to your description, you used drill up/drill down in Power View report. When you drill down to the detail chart, sometimes the drill up, filter and expand buttons disappear. You need to close the report and reopen it to come back to the main report.
When we click down arrow to drill down to the next hierarchy, the drill up, filter and expand buttons will be displayed at top right of the report. We can come back to the main report by click the up arrow in the top right corner of the visualization. If
you could not view up arrow, please click the chart to see if it is visible.
The screenshot is for your reference:

  • Power View / Power Pivot Enhancement Request: Allow a value to be associated with a consistent color

Just like you can specify a "sort by" column in SSAS tabular, allow the ability to specify a "rendering color" column with a hex value. We've had many requests to associate a certain value in reports with a consistent color.

    Hi TheNotoriousBLG,
Based on my understanding, you want to specify color for the values in the power view report.
Power View is an interactive data exploration, visualization, and presentation experience that encourages intuitive ad-hoc reporting. We can easily create a report by selected expected fields, however, there is no feature for us to customize font color or
background setting within the Power View report. So for your requirement, it can’t be achieved currently. Please refer to link below:
