Accessing Analysis Services MultiDimensional cube data with Power View in Excel

At this point in time, does Power View in Excel have the ability to connect directly to an Analysis Services multidimensional cube?
If not, is this functionality expected in the near future?
davidg12

Hi,
As far as I known, the Power View for Excel does not support the feature yet, please see this article:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj969574.aspx
I copied part of the article here:
Native support for Power View
With this release, multidimensional models support analysis and visualization by using Power View in SharePoint mode. No special configuration of your multidimensional models is necessary. There are however some differences in how multidimensional model
objects are displayed in Power View compared to other client tools such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Performance Point.
This release does not support analysis and visualization of multidimensional models by using Power View in Excel 2013.
====
We may use Power View for SQL Server 2014. For more detail information, please refer to the following link:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/user_ed/archive/2014/01/02/business-intelligence-in-sql-server-2014-power-view-for-multidimensional-models.aspx
Hope it's helpful.

  • Connecting SQL Analysis Services 2005 cube with obiee 10g

    Hello experts,
I'm trying to link an SQL Analysis Services 2005 cube with obiee 10g.
In Oracle BI Administration, when I choose File -> Import -> From
Multi-dimensional, I have to fill the next gaps:
    Provider Type: Analysis Services 2005
    URL: ***********
    User: blank
    Password: blank
Before to do that, I need to create the URL path.
To create the URL, I have followed this link.
    http://erpthings.blogspot.com/2008/08/obiee-connection-to-msas-2005-
    cube.html
But, it hasn't worked because when I was trying to configure the HTTP
access to SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, we have to perform a test to ensure that it has been well configured. In IIS -> WebSites -> Default WebSites -> olap, we should browse the document called "msmdpump.dll" and this should show an xml document, but it doesn't.
    Thanks!

    Hi Alex
It sounds like your MS data pump might not be configured correctly. First ensure that is working before trying to put the values into OBIEE. Don't worry about the 500 error - I get that too instead of an XML page.
You can read a bit more about SSAS support on my blog here:

  • MS SQL database needs to run mdx query to analysis services to retrieve data from a BPC 10 Netweaver cube(view only)

We are in the process of migrating from BPC7 SP12 Microsoft sql server to BPC10 netweaver on a sql server with BW7.4 and need to integrate our home grown data warehouse which is on a Microsoft sql server.  The data warehouse currently connects to BPC7 using integration services/analysis services and runs mdx queries to analysis services to retrieve data from the BPC7 cube (view only).  Please provide documentation on how to create this same integration with our data warehouse using BPC10 netweaver on a sql server.

When you were setting up your ODBC data source for
the Text driver, did you click on the "Options"
button? There's a lot of options in there that I
didn't understand at first glance.Yes I clicked on the options button, but the only thing there is dealing with file extensions. I left it set to the default.
I have since tried closing my connection after I insert a record, I then try executeQuery, but still no luck. Seems strange that I can write to the file but not read from it. If any thing I'd expect the opposite problem.
I have also tried using the class "JoltReport" from the sun tutorial instead of my own with the same result.

  • What Performance Load for simulationg end-use load for Power View and Excel Services?

I have SQL Server 2014 DW, OLAP Cube, SharePoint 2013, Power View(Silverlight) and Excel Services.
I would like to monitor performance with perfmon and analyse results with PAL.
But how to generate end-user load for 1000 users? We would have several end-user roles to simulate each clicking differents slicers in reports.
What tools are capable for this?
Any experiences about HP Loadrunner or Neoload with MS BI tools?
Does Microsoft have any compatible load generation tool?

    Simplest:
Write an MDX script with randomized parameter to be executed in a loop using SSMS.
Run the script in 50 SSMS query windows. Run it on 20 machines (20x50 = 1000).

  • Cannot insert object error using Power View in Excel 2013

I created a short table in Excel 2013, positioned the cursor in the table and clicked Inset/Power View Report. I get a status window saying Excel is opening a Power View sheet but then I get a Power View error: Cannot Insert Object. I am able to insert new
tabs in the workbook. When I try the insert again, I just get the Power View error. I looked at other threads with similar issues and did the following:
Made the Formula bar visible - no change
Tried to repair Office 2013 but that option is not available when I right click on the program in the Control Panel
De-installed Silverlight - Tried to insert Power View Report. A Power View tab was created with the Power View picture and Power View ribbon. Got the message to install Silverlight and Reload. Installed Silverlight hit Reload and the Power View tab didn't
change. Hit Power View Report and got the Cannot Insert Object error message again.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
Did you use PowerView first time? I notice you had found a similar thread and tested the solutions.
PowerView is an add-in in Excel2013, We must make sure that you check some option in the trust center and Add-in center.
    http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-excel/archive/2012/10/04/intro-to-power-view-for-excel-2013.aspx
    Location1: Excel Options>Add-in>Solver Add-in enable
    Location2: Excel Options> Trust Center> Add-in
Then you said that you couldn’t repair the Excel 2013, please refer to the following link:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/outlook-help/repair-office-programs-HA010357402.aspx
At last, we may test it in clean boot, please refer to the following link:

  • TREX search on SAP BW data with result in BEx/Excel?

    Hello all!
I want to realize a search on TREX in BW-data with showing the results in an Excel-Sheet.
It works fine on Web but we have no idea at the moment how we can do this in BEx/Excel. How can we ask for data and get the result into the Excel-Sheet?
Does someone has an idea about how this could be done?
    Best Regards,
    Peter

    Hello Karsten!
Your are right. Its more a BI topic. But maybe someone can tell me, how to request data out of Excel from TREX and how to send data from TREX to MS Excel?
Are there connections? functions or anything I could possibly use?

  • Different behavior for Power View between Excel and Power Bi Site

    Hello,
this problem is driving me crazy...
I have a PowerPivot Data Model and created a PowerView that includes three charts for the
Year, Quarter, Brand and a matrix that allow me to drill down the different projects. Each Project in the matrix can be clicked to view the project details.
The strange thing is that in Excel on my Desktop and in the Power Bi App for Surace RT when i press the Project in the drill down the previous filters remains set, while if i do the same in Power Bi Sites the filters are lost. I tried with Chrome and IE
but behavior the same. Am i missing something?
    Thank you so much

    Dear Will,
thank you so much for your reply.
I'm attaching come screenshots from Power bi site i remove the clases and the data, but you should have an idea of the scenario. Actually I'm not setting the Year and Quarter filter as view filters in the Power View.
I'm just using Cross filtering and i realize that the behavior is different between Excel Desktop and Power Bi Surface RT app and the bi sites (with all browsers).
First image with 2014 set (just clicked on 2014) the data on the Matrix have been deleted.
After i select the drill down:
Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it!

  • Exporting filterded data from a view to excel

I have a requirement, where i have to export data from a list to excel after applying some filter to it.
Say i filter the view by selecting employee dept="Teaching", now i want to export only the filtered rows to excel.
Is there any way to achieve this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You can create a view with required filters. Then you can export to excel after switching on to filtered view.Refer following link to create filtered view.

    hello,
i have only been using power view (and power query) for a little while, but noticed that when i open a workbook that has power view sheets, power view is not automatically opened. when i first open the workbook, i see a large blue square on a worksheet
in order to use power view, i have to click on the  power view tab, then click the power view button.
is this the way the software is suppose to work?
if it helps, i am running office professional pro plus, excel 2013, with windows 8.1
i don't know if this matters, but i checked to make sure that power view is installed and it is.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you

    hi ed and will,
i think you guys are spying on me  -    of course, i am right-clicking on the excel icon on the task bar and selecting the workbook that i want to use. isn't that why the files are there - LOL
okay, so i took the loooooooooooooong way, i opened excel, by clicking on the icon on the task bar. a blank workbook opened.
then i opened the workbook that i wanted to use
that power view window with the red circle appeared.
i opened the add-ins screen and power view is installed/enabled.
hmmm, if this hasn't been logged as an issue by someone else already, could there be something wrong with my workbook files or worse, my laptop.
    i don't see a frown/smile button in excel - where is it?
    this isn't looking so good.
what do you guys think is going on?

  • No more Count (distinct) : Power View in Excel 2013

    Hello,
I used to create a Power View report using this field "Sport" where I choose
     Count (Distinct)
Today this option is not available in the drop down menu. What did I miss?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The issue may be caused the "Sport filed" is modified or it is converted from a text (non-numeric) field to a measure. It shows the "Count" option, please see the
article. We may try to remove the filed and re-add the filed to the field list.

  • What permission required to Browse Cube in Analysis Services.

    Hi
I have a request where user want to browse cubes in SSMS for analysis services. I dont want to give him (Full control administrator) . when i tried other permission read / process data then he is not able to browse cube.
Even if give him full control role then while rebuilding cube these permissions will removed.
How can i give user access to just view cube , there meta data , objects in ssms
    Thanks Saurabh Sinha
    http://saurabhsinhainblogs.blogspot.in/

    Hi Saurabh,
According to your description, you are trying to grant browser permission to the users without success, right?
Roles are used in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services to manage security for Analysis Services objects and data. Cube access by a non-administrator requires membership in a role created for the database containing the cube. Membership is supported
for Windows user or group accounts, defined in either Active Directory or on the local computer.
So in your scenario, please ensure that the grant permission steps are correct, you can refer to the links below to do it.
