Mapping JSP's to outside of the war or expanded folder

Hi there
We use resin here in my work. Resin allows in its web.xml an element like:
  <path-mapping>
    <url-pattern>/jsp/*</url-pattern>
    <real-path>c:/resin/resin-2.1.4/apps/ucs/</real-path>
    </path-mapping>
   <path-mapping>This can also be used in resin.conf, amking the war more portable.
Now we are starting a migration to tomcat. But as far as I know TC doesnt not allow to have the JSP's out side of the war or the expanded war. I did a research a couple of years ago. Did it changed? Is there anyway now of mapping the jsp's of an app to an outside folder?
Thanks

If you are near one of the uk apple stores, take your ipod to the store and i'm sure they'd let you plug it in to a charger to complete the update, locations...
http://www.apple.com/uk/buy/
any decent retail store that has the ipod on demo should also be able to do this for you, staff at microanvika for instance are usually very helpful
other things to try...
anyone at work/wherever with an ipod? borrow their charger
buy a charger, try ebay for a used one

    Hi,
    This is right provided you have installed the webserver & app server
    on the same machine and the port number for the web server is 80 by
    default.

  • Accessing files external to the WAR

    Hello All,
    Can any one tell how to access the HTML files which are stored outside to the WAR...
    If i prefix the URL with "http://" then normal <a> tag will do the task.
    Ex: *SUN* but if i give the complete absolute path like *Help* this is not working. Web server is blocking the access to the documents which are external to the application.
    Any suggestions how to do this, I want to open up the HTML file which is residing in the Local file system.
    Thanks
    Chethan

    It's not just external to the application, it looks like it's external to the web server itself... :)
    The only thing I can think of is to write a simple servlet that accepts a path or something and returns the file for you. For example:
    public class GetFile extends HttpServlet {
         public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException {
              String path = request.getParameter("path");
              //must be html file only...
              if (path != null && path.indexOf(".") > 0 && path.substring(path.lastIndexOf(".") + 1, path.length()).equalsIgnoreCase("html")) {
                   try {
                        File file = new File(path);
                        if (file.exists()) {
                             response.setContentType("text/html");
                             InputStream input = new FileInputStream(file);
                             OutputStream output = response.getOutputStream();
                             byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
                             while (input.read(buffer) > 0) {
                                  output.write(buffer);
                             output.flush();
                             output.close();
                             input.close();
                        else {
                             response.getWriter().println("Unable to find file " + path);
                   catch(Exception ex) {
                        StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();
                        PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(sw);
                        ex.printStackTrace(pw);
                        response.getWriter().println(sw.toString());
              else {
                   response.getWriter().println("No path or invalid path specified");
    }This is just a quick hack, you will need to do some tweaking of course. Security would be my biggest concern with something like this.

  • Consume EJB thats in the same EAR as the WAR

    Hey,
    I've been trying to figure out how to consume an EJB from a servlet in a WAR. Both the EJB and WAR are in the same EAR file. What class files am I going to need to put in the WAR's class folder? Am I going to need any if they are in the same EAR? Since they are in the same EAR can I not just access them via an import?
    If sombody could shed some light on the topic I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks.

    I'd actually found my answer after a good nights sleep... I must have been out of it when I asked that question ha ha... and yes, why wouldn't I use EJB's?

  • J2EE, possible to serve clients jsp files that are outside the war file?

    Hi, I was wondering with a J2EE webserver if it was possible to serve clients webpages from jsp files that were outside the client.
    For example say you got your war file in the auto deploy directory on the server and also on the server you got a directory full of jsp files that could be accessed by the webserver just like normal jsp files inside the war file?
    ...I want to do this because I want to be able to add jsp files without rebuilding the war file.
    ....Or is it possible to make the webserver rebuild itself, eg to add or remove files?
    Thanks

    If you are using a S1WS6.1, please try to find a line with WEBAPP in server.xml.
    You should find a line like this.
    <WEBAPP uri="/simple" path="/opt/SUNWwbsvr/https-test/webapps/https-test/simple" enabled="true"/>
    The path parameter shows the directory where the S1WS refers to when the webapplication is executed.
    You can put a jsp into the directory and modify it accordingly.
    Please refer to the following docs. They might help.

  • Refreshing JSP file for an exploded WAR without undeploying the WAR - 7210

    The weblogic.Deployer utility with -activate option does redeploy my application. How do I prevent redeployment while refreshing. I'm using Weblogic 7.0.0.0.
              Thanks

    Thanks mbg for your response.
              Our production environment does not support the option a. We use the
              option b approach.
              My config.xml looks like this for the webapplication
              <Application Deployed="true" Name="oas"
              Path="/tmp/senthil/oas3.7.1.5"
              StagedTargets="DOAS_MT_021_20501" TwoPhase="true">
              <WebAppComponent Name="oas" Targets="DOAS_MT_CLUSTER_1"
              URI="oas"/>
              </Application>
              I performed the following steps..
              1) Modified the following jsp file on the admin.
              /tmp/senthil/oas3.7.1.5/oas/customercare/contactus.jsp
              2) Ran the following command on the admin
              java weblogic.Deployer -adminurl t3://n.n.n.n:20501 -user system
              -password weblogic -name oas -activate customercare/contactus.jsp
              after running the command,
              I was able to identify the corresponding jsp file immediately updated
              on the managed instance under the stage folder. But the class file on
              the stage folder was not updated and neither the class file on the
              .wlnotdelete folder. I was using the pagecheckseconds on the
              weblogic.xml as -1.
              I stopped both the admin and manage, modified the pagecheckseconds to
              1 Hour and when I performed same steps as before, I was able to see
              the jsp file updated and also getting compiled (when accessed) and
              serving the updated content. Also the user session was kept intact.
              i.e. no interruption to the session. This was what I was expecting
              for. The strange thing is, it didn't wait for one hour to compile. It
              was compiling immediately when I accessed the modified jsp file. I'm
              not sure whether it would behave the same way if I put that value as 1
              day or some very big +ve value.
              I'm not sure whether I'm doing the right way. i.e. changing the
              pagecheckseconds to ve value. Also I'm not sure whether the ve value
              for the pagecheckseconds would create impact on performance.
              Thanks for your time.

  • Best practice?-store images outside the WAR file?

    I have an EAR project with several thousand images that are constantly changing. I do not want to store the images in the WAR project since it will take an extremely long time to redeploy with every image change. What is the best practice for storing images? Is it proper to put them in the WAR and re-deploy? Or is there a better solution?

    Perryier wrote:
    Can you expand on this? Where do they get deployed and in what format? How do I point to them on a jsp?
    I am using Sun Application server 9.0, and I don't really think this has a "stand alone" web server. How will this impact it?You could install any web server you want (Apache?). The request comes in and if the request matches something like .jpg or .gif or whatever, you serve up the file. If you have a request for a jsp or what not, you forward the request to the app server (Sun App Server in your case). i.e. your web server acts as a content-aware proxy.

    Regards
    M Fazal Ur Rehman

    Excellent question. I don't see any client-jar in your EAR file structure. So I am assuming you are writing a separate client application which will talk to the ejbs deployed as part of this EAR. You need to do the following:
    Write another EAR file with the following structure:
    ear:
    META-INF/application.xml
    util.jar
    client.jar
    client.jar should have a META-INF/MANIFEST.MF and that should contain Class-Path:util.jar and value for Main-Class attribute.
    Now deploy this new ear to your application server and execute it using Application Client Container that comes with your app server.
    If you don't want to write another EAR file, then bundle th client.jar in your original EAR file.
    Points to note are:
    you have to repackage util.jar again inside this ear file.
    For portability reason, you should use Class-Path manifest entry in client.jar. Refer to http://java.sun.com/j2ee/verified/packaging.html and J2EE platform spec section #8.2.
    Hope this helps,
    Sahoo

  • How to open a document out side the .war file

    Hi all,
    I have initially stored a document outside the WEB-INF in the .war file to retrieve it from a jsp file of the same war file. But now the file has been stored at a location on the same server and outside the .war file. how can I retrieve the file path and location outside the war file from the jsp. I ve previously used the following code when retrieving from a directory "docs" of the same .war file as:
                      <td  class="FormLableLeft"><a href="#" onClick=window.open("/docs/<%=colData.get("DOCUMENT_NAME")%>")><%=colData.get("File_NAME")%></a> </td>please suggest me how to retrieve the document located outside the war.

    Create a servlet which reads the file from the local file system and writes it to the outputstream of the response after having set the response headers accordingly. Then simply call that servlet by URL along with the file ID as request parameter or pathinfo. You may find this example useful: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/07/fileservlet.html].

  • Problems while accessing images outside the web document-root folder

    Our application runs on Oracle application server on Linux. Facing problems while accessing images outside the web document-root folder. This works with changes in global-web-application.xml by including the <virtual-directory> tag. The same change does not work when done on Linux machine. It is unable to find the image. Please help in resolving this issue.

    <virtual-directory virtual-path="/img" real-path="/home/eposuat/" />
    </orion-web-app>
    Code in the jsp:
    <img width=700 height=700 src="/img/3.tif"></img>
    <img width=700 height=700 src="/img/WB.gif"></img>

    This is one of the least satisfactory aspects of site management in Dreamweaver, and several developers, including myself, have been pressuring the Dreamweaver team for some years to improve this. Who knows? They might eventually take notice.
    The only way to do this at the moment is to create two site definitions, one nested inside the other. Set up the site definition normally based on htdocs as your site root. Then create a new site definition based on site. Dreamweaver will nag you that it can cause problems, but it won't actually stop you from doing it. The only potential problem is with site synchronization.
    The problem with using site as the only basis for your site definition is that Dreamweaver automatically puts things like the Connections, Scripts, and other folders in the site root. So, everything ends up at the wrong level of the site hierarchy. Quite frankly, the whole thing is a bit of a pain. Dynamic site development was added to Dreamweaver only in version 6 (Dreamweaver MX), and no one had really thought through the need to store files outside the site root.

  • How to deploy the .war to tomcat

    Hello All,
                 How to deploy the war file into tomcat server & work? Can any body enlighten me how to proceed and test the application?

    Hi,
    assumed you talk about Tomcat in general.
    Simply copy you archive (xyz.war) into the subdir \webapps of your tomcat installation.
    Invocation: http://hostname:port/xyz/resource
    -> where xyz is the name of your archive and
    -> resource is what you have specified within web.xml (<servlet-mapping> - tag) or a jsp / html you have in your archive.
    -> host is your machine (try localhost for instance)
    -> port usually is 8080
    Hope that helps
    M.

    In the warfile i have jsp,servlets,java classes.
    In my working directory i have jsp and html files and in web-inf folder i have a folder by name classes in which i have the servlets and java classes.
    I made the war file and when i tried to deploy i was getting this error.
    I had previously deployed this war file on weblogic6.1 it was working fine.
    I have upgraded my operating sytem to Windows2000 professional from WinNT 4.0.I reinstalled the weblogic again and had set up the environment variables.
    After going through the error could you find out the reason?Is it because some seeting is missing?

  • How can I map SSH from an outside network range to an internal host (ASA 5505)

    Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 7.2(4)
    Device Manager Version 5.2(4)
    - External network range that needs SSH access: 8.8.8.0/24
    - Outside interface: 10.1.10.2 (NAT'd from 7.7.7.7)
    - Inside Network: 192.168.100.0/24
    - Inside host to redirect external SSH to: 192.168.100.98
    Hi All,
    I have a Cisco ASA 5505 (version above) and I have someone that needs to SSH into a box behind the ASA. I'm having a few issues trying to configure this access-list and NAT. I've tried many combinations and clearly my IOS is not as good as I thought.
    Can anyone help with this? What commands should I enter to accomplish mapping SSH from an outside network range to an internal host?
    Many thanks,
    Tarran

    This may or may not work depending on how your modem handles the natting. On your firewall try this -
    static (inside,outside) tcp interface 22 192.168.100.98 22
    then add this to your acl on the outside interface of your ASA -
    access-list outside_in permit tcp 8.8.8.0 255.255.255.0 host 10.1.10.2 eq 22
    if you don't have an acl applied then add this extra step -
    access-group outside_in in interface outside
