Markers - Can I trigger looped marker sections via MIDI controller?

This is kind of a multi-part question:
I know that I can set up key commands to toggle between various markers, but can I set up a group of MIDI controller buttons so that each one represents the 1st marker, the 2nd marker, the 3rd marker, etc., etc. of whatever project/song might be loaded?
Pending that answer, is there a way to set up each marker as its own looping section (without manually changing the cycle section)? Logic makes it very inviting to write/record over looped parts, and I would love to be able to toggle between each looped section of a project, via MIDI controller hardware, for a more intuitive way to both write additional parts for each song section, as well as compose more fluid sequences and experiment with different arrangements without having to drag everything around in the arrange window. I figured that using markers would be a way to do this, since I am under the impression that I can already have the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. mapped out to MIDI controller buttons/triggers. I am hopeful that the trick can be accomplished with cycle automatically being associated with each marker section . . .

You can assign buttons to control key commands by opening the key command set-up window. Navigate to the key commands you wish. You don't need to assign an actual key command for this to work, by the way. Highlight the appropriate key command (go to marker number X in your case). At the bottom left is the 'learn new assignment' button, press it and then press a button on your keyboard. Repeat for all desired key commands.
If you type 'marker' into the search box of the key command window, you will notice a key command a few spaces up from the 'go to markers' that is called 'set locators by marker and enable cycle' - to jump to this cycle just hit play, even if it's already in play it'll jump as long as you have 'play from cycle' selected in your play button options (which it is by default). Then press record and it will be recording.
There are several other key-command strategies that end up with the same result. So explore the options to find out what works for you. Since you can only assign one key command to a button, you do have to press several buttons (select marker, set loc. at marker, play, and then record).
You could rig up a little system in the environment that splits and converts cc messages so that pressing cc24 spits out 24,25,26 which are all assigned to different key commands. So one button kicks out 3 key commands this way. It's not too complicated to set up, but you need to pay attention to what is assigned to what or else you'll end up with a spaghetti pile of confusing assignments. Start with the easy 4 button method to make sure this is actually accomplishing what you want - who knows, maybe you will discover a key command combo that takes a step or two out. Then you can take a look at combining and simplifying.

Switching tracks via MIDI controller

I've been using Logic 7 for a couple of years now. Until today, I used the 'musical typing' function and the mouse to manipulate the software synthesizers. I just got the M-Audio Oxygen controller, and I'm having trouble finding out how to toggle among software instruments via the controller. So far, I'm only able to switch instruments by selecting their tracks with the mouse. I've tried assigning the instrument tracks to different MIDI channels, then selecting that channel on my controller, but it still will only play the track that is highlighted on the screen. Logic and Oxygen references don't seem to have the answer

Open the Key Commands window -
Logic Pro : Preference : Key Commands
In search box type: next track
The default key command is 'down arrow'. Select it.
Click on 'Learn New Assignment' button and move fader/button on MIDI controller to learn the hardware switch to the function in Logic.
Do the same for 'previous track' with a different hardware button.

How can I use my Dx7 as a MIDI controller for Logic Pro 9? I'm using MIDI/USB cable but Dx7 doesn't appear in the 'set-up' list, what am I doing wrong?

When I click the 'scan all models' search in the 'Control Surfaces Set Up' there is no Yamaha DX7 in the list so how can I make Logic 'see' the DX7?

As Colin pointed out, you have to look first in the Audio MIDI Setup. If your MIDI Device doesn't show up there, then Logic cannot see it either (unless you are using Logic Remote on your iPad to play over Wi-Fi).
I'm curious about the "MIDI/USB cable you mention. If the DX7 has a standard 5-pin DIN MIDI out jack, then you have to connect that to a MIDI Interface first that converts the MIDI signal to send it over the USB jack out. Please note that you would see the MIDI Interface in the Audio MIDI Setup app and not the DX7 itself. Also, in Logic you would see the MIDI Interface in the Environment as a valid MIDI input device.

Question from a complete MIDI newbie:
I've recently bought a Novation Impulse 25 MIDI keyboard/controller. I've recorded an arpegiated synth bassline and while recording, I've tweaked the filter cutoff/resonance knobs like crazy to get that wicked, squelchy acid sound :-)
It was all sounding fine through my monitors, but when I played back the recording, the filter modulation was gone, only notes were recorded, and the filter was at its default setting.
I know there is a automation feature in Garage Band and you can control several parameters very precisely over time, but it won't replace going crazy on the knobs, faders and modwheels while playing/performing.

Don't forget to drag a cable from the tempo fader to the sequencer input.
The number on the tempo fader is the tempo.
The input, channel, and data byte 1 would be used if you want to use something other than the pitchbend to control the fader. These are in the inspector on the left (press the letter "I" to show it if it's not there). You have to select the tempo fader, and open the disclosure triangle in the inspector.
Now you will see a list. About halfway down is 'input' - it probably is set for pitchbd so leave it. Under that is Channel: probably set to 1. if the fader changes values when you move the pitch wheel, you're good. If not, you have 16 to choose from until it works.
Under that is -1-: 1 If you were to change the above "pitchbd" to say, control - this would now allow you to open a list right there and assign a different knob or slider on your controller.
Try it. Change "pitchbd" to "control" and set the -1-: value to 1 (you'll see in the list that 1=modulation). Now your mod wheel controls the tempo fader.

Lost duration of clips and/or marked sections on monitors!

Up until PPro CS6, when one marked a clip with In/Out markers, the duration of the marked section appeared in the time display on the bottom right of the monitor (Source or Program). Even if the clip(s) had no In/Out markers, the duration of the clip or sequence was visible in this time display on the Source or Program monitors respectively.
I know that I can "customize" the tranport buttons on the monitor displays, though Adobe also got rid of the controls to speed through playback (the J-K-L keys don't give me the same kind of control), I see no way to get this time display back. Could someone please suggest a work-around method?!?!

I read your answer and got upset... I did a screen capture so that I could show you (and anyone viewing this thread) that it wasn't there.
Then, when I had the screen capture in PhotoShop to crop it, I noticed FAINT numbers where the time display "used to be" (they might not be obvious in the capture at this size). I went back to PPro, fiddled with the appearance setting in preferences, and suddenly it pops back up!

For those who are following this thread I have received the following info from LPH: it hasn't dealt with this through midi controllers but with key switches in a v. easy to work with fashion, though I would still like to have a result with former, if there is anybody that can give me a clear proceedure. METHOD #1
Create a duplicate track for those instruments which you're keyswitching. Let's just focus on one instrument for now, flute. Create a duplicate track assigned to your flute instrument ("new track with same instrument/channel"). Next, copy all of the regions from the original track onto this track and merge (glue) them to create one contiguous track. Of course if you have only one region for the part, just copy the region over to the new track.
Then go into the piano roll editor and swipe the keyboard on the left in the range of your keyswitches. Then use the command "toggle selection" and hit DELETE. Now you have a region that contains only your keyswitches.
Or, of course, you can just swipe the range that the instrument plays in. Then hit DELETE. Either way...
The final step here is to untick the "score" checkbox for this keyswitch-only region (region parameters). Now, both tracks will still play, except only the actual flute part will appear in your score.
METHOD #2
In the score editor, open the staff style for the part. Set the highest note/lowest note range to (visually) filter out the keyswitch notes. This may seem like the easiest way to do things, but it will require you to have a distinct staff style applied to each part. For example, if you're using the Treble staff style for multiple parts (picc, flute, bass clarinet) and their key switches are in different ranges of the keyboard (as is the case with some libraries), you will need to create duplicates of "Treble", name them accordingly (picc, flute, b.clarinet), assign them to the various regions playing those parts, and then set their highest/lowest note values accordingly.

hello again now i'm running my e72 with fw 81.03
but i noticed the following
i tried the steps as u told me
1) opened ovi and sure 1st time it crashed so i reopened and updated it successfully
2) restarted device and pc and then connected them using usb cable
3) started update
1st time :160mb then at the end of download part (nokia updates is not available now plz try again later)
2nd time 80 mb (wiered) anyways the same as above message
3rd time (after 3 days) to be accurate 30/11 at 6:30 am egypt local time
restarted both and tried and voilla 14 mb still wiered
but it finished and device restarted but after the restart the device asked for pin and the quick start wizard which is normal as stated in nokia suite instructions
but while was nokia suite at the finishing part (checking applications updates) a
message appeared something went wrong plz go to nokia.com and reinstall the latest ver of nokia suite and try again

firmware 81.3 with more enchantments and improvements
so should i worry
my device is now updated and it works and it was checking m card and the a message apppeared on phone (restart phone to see changes) nothing was removed even my installed apps like whatsapp and u tube and skype

but i found something suspicious
which is i found a five digits no (delivered) at the reports section of messages (what was that? ) so i opened the sent items nothing was there so i opened log and only connections and incomming message from nokia was there, shall i worry for this too.

How can I trigger an onchange event for hidden or never displayed item

hi -- I have an item that I don't want displayed on my page -- more info than the user wants or needs; call it B. It needs to be
set by an onchange event from a visible item (A); then, the change of B triggers on onchange to set another item (visible) -- C.
When B is visible on the page, it all works. If I make it hidden or conditionally never displayed, it doesn't work. From the looks of
it, B never gets changed.
How can I trigger this onchange event (from B to set C) with B not visible?

I won't bore you with app process LOOKUP_VALUE. It just builds an sql query that gets the value for B, aliased to RETURN_VAL.

The To Do List Items in Mail are grayed out. I can't edit or mark them :(

As stated in the title, the To Do items in Mail are all grayed out, I can't edit or mark them complete anymore. In iCal, on the other hand, To Do items are working correctly. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and the To Do items were working fine before, but are not now.

Sorry, I should have explained it more. I had 186 To Do items in the Mail To Do section that were working fine before I installed Snow Leopard (I was able to mark them complete or incomplete, rename, and edit them). After installing Snow Leopard, half of them are grayed out and half of them are working correctly. I am unable to mark the grayed out To Do items complete, or rename or edit them. The To Do items that are grayed out are random, like, it's not all of the complete ones, or all of the ones that are in a month or so.

Is it possible to trigger an audio sample via a midi file in logic?

E.G. If i had a midi kick drum track. Could I sample an audio file of a kick drum ?
I knwo this can be done in programs like fruity loops but im not sure if logic has this ability too?

Create a software instrument track. Double click the instrument name in the channel strip to show the Ultrabeat editor. Choose the Ultrabeat instrument and then choose the default setting for importing samples, which can be chosen from Ultrabeat's patch selection menu just like any other software instrument. In the lower right hand corner of the editor you will see a button that says "full view". It chooses between a fruity loops style sequencer view and a drum synth editor view. To import your sample, you need to be in the drum synth edit view. In this view there are three sound source controls which combine to make an ultrabeat sound. The one you need to choose is the sample source in the lower left corner where you should see a picture of a waveform. Double click on the waveform to open Finder, where you can browse for the location of your sample. The name of your sample will then appear on the left side of the editor as one key of a virtual keyboard. Click on the key with your mouse and you should be able to hear your sample playback. Play all the keys / pads on your controller and one of them will trigger your sample through Ultrabeat. You can also trigger ultrabeats pattern sequencer to play the sample from ultrabeat, and then trigger ultrabeats patterns to play in sync with Logic. You can even trigger different ultrabeat patterns using notes from your MIDI controller. Put ultrabeat on several tracks and then switch between tracks while triggering different patterns on each track..while recording it all as a performance in realtime . Check out Ultrabeat. Autonumbering Sections via Master?

Reading the forum post Section Numbering in Header it seems as though what I need to do may not be possible, but the online documentation implies otherwise, and Bob Bringhurst suggested I post my question here.
What I'm trying to do is provide chapter-numbers on each page, in addition to page numbers. But since the content is from XML all my chapters are in the same document and I need to set up the numbering in the Master.
The documentation about "Add an automatically updated chapter number" says ""if you want to divide a single document into chapters, you can create sections instead". But the section "Define section numbering" seems to be only about dynamic page numbers or static section text (explicitly defined in the Section Options dialog box).
Is there a way to create an automatically updated number in a page header (defined in the Master) that is NOT the page number or chapter number?
I guess my follow-on issue will be - if I can get an automatically updated section number in the header, is there a way to add a Section break, or does that have to be done manually for every section anyway?

Yes. You can add whatever you want between the quotes. You can also
make it:
doc.sections[i].marker = "text before " + (i+1) + " some more text after";
as well...
If you need leading zeros before the number, you can do something like
this:
