Master-detail driven by choice list

I have a choice list for Dept as the master to drive a detail table Emp. The choice list is implemented below. How do I then drive the detail table by the selected item in the choice list? Can this be done declaretively, or must be done by java code. There are examples to show how to do bc4j:choice but there is no example to explain how to drive the detail table after the choice list is done.

<!-- define detail table here -->

Hi Arjuna,
Thank you very much for the help. Here is the code for the VO registrations and the detail table. If the rangeSize=1 in master VO InstanceView, the detail table is initialized to the first master row. However, the master choice list shows only the first row. If rangeSize is 3 then the list is populated with 3 rows but nothing is selected in the detail table. I have two questions: a) how to set the initial master row? b) how to decide how many rows to set in rangeSize? In a sense a choice list is just a single column table with a single selection, one would expect the choice list to provide the simular mechanism of a table.

  • Master detail form - drop down list in detail (ADF)

    Hi,
Been racking our brains for a few days/weeks about this one, and would be grateful for any pointers why this does not work.
We have developed an in-house application for dealing with risk and chemical assessments.
The process we have adopted allows users to create an assessment first then they are taken to another form where they are then able to add risk factors/ or chemicals relating to the assessment. The intention is to present the user with the ability to select from a drop down list which contains the chemical names.
We have been going through the forums and have tried all the examples we can find (all the examples work on our system), but when we try to adapt them to our approach they create an error indicating that they cannot find the values in the entity object.
Has anyone else come across the same problem or is it that the ADF is not suited to dealing with the master/detail approach and drop down menus.
The drop down lists are in an ADF table.
    Thanks in advance
    Andrew

    Hi Kuba,
Thanks for the pointer, I think we tried that one early on. For the time being we have opted for using a selectInputText box, and that appears to be working. Well at least it has got us past the deadline for yesterday, now onto the next deadline.
    Thanks again!

  • Obiee 11g - Master/detail : How to initialize details ?

    Hi gurus,
I'm using the last version of obiee.
I have a dashboard with master/detail. The master/details are working great when I click on cells.
But I have some "initialization" problems.
    - master/detail with a prompt list on the master table
a change on the list won't initialize the detail. I would like to have the detail refreshed with the first row of the master.
    - master/detail with different order by on master and detail
the initialization value of the detail does not fit with the first row of the master.
Is it possible to achieve this ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Emmanuel

    Hi Dpka,
Thanks for sharing your view . I ,even observe the same 'error' message returining false value at the bottom-left of my browser when set up the Master detail even and clicked my table column to reflect the value in the graph .
But my situation is bit tricky . I can't expose two different views to see if separating the interaction works well or not . In my case I have only 1 report with 4 compound layout(with pivot table(master) and Graph(detail)) having view selector . So this is practically not separable as this incurs loss of other functionalities.
Do you have any suggestion in mind . I tried to see Supportweb and doesn't have any valid bug reported :(

[*]First, I'd recommend upgrading to XSQL 1.0.4.3, the latest production release that is part of the XDK for Java 8.1.7.1 at http://otn.oracle.com/tech/xml
[*]Then, explore using the Oracle CURSOR() expression to create nested rowsets. This is documented in our SQL language reference info here on OTN. My book has several examples of using CURSOR() to produce master/detail results, too.

  • Master-detail list - how to spread over multiple columns

I am using the master-detail functionality to create a image viewer.
I have a long list of master thumbnails, and rather than having them go down the page in one column, I would like to make them spread over 2 or 3 columns before the detail column.
(example of format I am trying to achieve - http://www.franbainbridgephotography.com.au/gallery.html (I dont mind whether master thumbnails are on right or left of detail photo))
You can see my problem on http://www.wcwra.com/webpages/images.php
Is this possible with the master-detail functionality?
    Thank you!

The brilliant David Powers has fixed this for me on the main forum (vw2ureg was v close).  David's answer is :
There is no way of making a single dataset repeat in multiple columns, because it's simply one element being repeated over and over.
However, with a little out of the box thinking, you can do it quite easily with thumbnails. Instead of putting the master column repeat region in a block level element, use an inline element, <span>. Images are treated by browsers as inline elements, so this should work just fine. Change the following code from this:
    <div spry:region="dsPhotos" class="MasterContainer">
        <div class="MasterColumn" spry:repeat="dsPhotos" spry:setrow="dsPhotos"
        spry:hover="MasterColumnHover" spry:select="MasterColumnSelected">{Caption}</div>
    </div>
    to this:
    <div spry:region="dsPhotos" class="MasterContainer">
        <span class="MasterColumn" spry:repeat="dsPhotos" spry:setrow="dsPhotos"
        spry:hover="MasterColumnHover" spry:select="MasterColumnSelected">{Caption}</span>
    </div>
In your CSS, set the width of the MasterColumn class to the width of your thumbnails, and the width of MasterContainer so that it's wide enough to accommodate two or more thumbnails. The thumbnails will flow into the column two or three abreast.

  • Master details form: in the details form the List of values is not working

  • Default the master / detail select lists

When I load a form that has pre-existing data I need to be
able to default the master / detail select lists to the correct
    values.
(so the lists load with the correct values "selected" in each
    case.)
Is it possible to do this and if so, how?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Checkout this post. In it, I show how to do it using a couple
    of global variables:

But it could easily be modifed to get the default values from

  • How to create two linked lists (Master/Detail or Parent/Child)

I need to create a couple of related lists in a Master/Detail approach. Users are supposed to choose one "Master" Option, and "Detail" column should be refreshed to display only the items that are strictly related to the chosen option
    in "Master". Any posible solution?
    Thanks in advance.

One option is to connect two web parts. This will give you option button for your master list web part and based on the value selected your results will be filtered in the detailed list web part. Here is the example. Though it is for SP 2010 it should work
    the same in SP 2013.
    http://sarahlhaase.wordpress.com/2012/05/21/connecting-web-parts-with-a-selector-and-a-detail-pane-sharepoint-2010-version/
Second option is with some customization using Jquery.

  • Best J2EE framework for Crud, Master details, lists, user, security, etc?

    Hi all,
Thanks in advanced for your constant help :)
My intention is to find a good J2EE framework to build small applications with the most common elements. ( Lists, Cruds, Master details, Search options, menus, user management, security, reporting, charting, etc).
    Any thoughts ?

    Any thoughts?

  • Can I link from Interactive report Page 1 to Master Detail page 2?

    Hi folks-
I know how to create a Page as an Interactive Report; it creates 2 pages automatically (primary page with the great interactive bar) and a 2nd page that's a single record.
I know how to create a Page as Master Detail, whereby I get a tabular list without the super interactive bar, and I can select a record, and get transported to a nice page with 2 regions (master on top, detail on bottom).
I want to have the First page from the Interactive Report, select the record, and go to the 2nd page of a MasterDetail.
Do I create the Interactive Report, and customize the 2nd page, to add a region?
Or, do I create both page types, and redirect from the 1st page of the Interactive Report to the DML Form from the MD report? I tried that, re-assigning the link from the Interactive Report to be a Link to Custom Target, and specify the page # of the Master-Detail page. And it is taking me to the right page, but the data from the selected row is not coming with me, and the detail in the bottom region is not appearing at all.
Can someone please give me a nudge as to the sequence I should be doing?
(As you can tell, I'm new to Apex.... I'm trying to use it to create a prototype or proof-of-concept for a database driven web application)
    Thank you
    Marion

Yes, I tried that after I wrote to you - and it's fine, but not what I'm after; it's only based on 1 table and I'm working with 2 tables.
Perhaps I can explain in better.
I want one page as an interactive tabular report (of the master records)
I want to select a row, and transfer to a page that has the corresponding row on top (as a form), and a tabular region below of records from a related detail table.
ie, I want page 1 from the Interactive Report, and page 2 of the Master Detail report.
OK - I just took the form page, and added a region below in a tabular report. And I'm getting the data, but I'm getting all the records (not just the ones associated with the single record on top. I figure I need to edit the Region Definition->Source (to specify that the id numbers need to match), but the code is not editable.....
So I am in Structured Query Attributes, and I've Modified the Join Conditions - but I still get all the detail records in the bottom region. I''m trying to add in the ( + ) qualifier, but it doesn't affect anything...
I'm soo close to what i'm trying to do!
Thank you for your continued patience and assistance
    Marion
here's the Source I have for the region..... (I'm including the excess ID columns just for learning purposes)
    SELECT
    "PHONENUMBERS"."PHONE_ENTITY_ID" "PHONE_ENTITY_ID",
    "ENTITIES"."ENTITY_ID" "ENTITY_ID",
    "ENTITIES"."FIRSTNAME" "FIRSTNAME",

I think the detailDisclosure state needs to be saved and retrieved from the session.
I'm not sure using a table with singleSelection inside a detail disclosure is supported. Are you doing master-detail inside of detail disclosure? Detail disclosure is not really meant for that. In jdev 10g preview we make hooking up a master-detail easy. Here's a link to some doc about it.

  • ADF BC Attribute with VC of CONTAINS Ignores Choice List on the LOV

    JDev 11g PS 1.
    Objects:
    - A view criteria with attribute defined as CONTAINS (literal)
    - An LOV on that attribute with a default list type UI hint of Choice List
    - ADF Faces query-table based in the VC
Problem: query-table ignores the Choice List and renders an Input Text.
Clue: Changing the operator to EQUALS causes the expected Choice List to be rendered in ADF BC.
If this is documented in the online help or in this forum, it is escaping me.
Anyone know the best workaround? Set the VC using EQUALS and switch it to CONTAINS in buildWhereClause() maybe?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Frank,
Thanks for the fast reply and for the bug entry. Unfortunately stopping work is not an option. We've come up with a solution using a query listener that replaces EQUALS with CONTAINS before the query and resets it to EQUALS after the query (otherwise the component draws the text item after the query).
Maybe you can think of another solution to our requirement: display a single master record in the results table for a master-detail database view. For example, in an altered Oracle HR world, each DEPARTMENTS record is associated with multiple LOCATIONS records (through a DEPT_LOC table). A database view, DEPT_LOC_VW, based on that table also contains the location description and department description.
Users want to select and then edit (on another page) a department by querying by location. If we represent DEPT_LOC_VW in the query-table component, we see multiple result rows for a single department and that is unnecessary confusion for the purpose of editing a single department.
So we have created an alternative database view, DEPT_VW, based on DEPARTMENTS only, with an additional column -- LOC_LIST -- based on a function that returns a delimited list of all location codes for that department. This way, the user sees only one department record in the results table (although we lose the location description in the results -- not an issue) and is still able to query based on location.
A LOCATIONS_VW view contains the location code surrounded with the delimiiter. The DeptVw view attribute LocList contains an LOV based on that database view.
We want the view criteria to create a query condition:
WHERE loc_list LIKE '%'||<selected location code>||'%'We thought about some kind of clever use of a subquery using a bind variable:
    SELECT...
    FROM  departments -- not DEPT_VW or DEPT_LOC_VW
    WHERE department_id IN (
       SELECT department_id
       FROM   dept_loc
WHERE  location_id = NVL(:userSelectedLocationId, location_id);But that bind variable does not show in the view criteria selection list so it will not appear in the query component.
    Thanks again,
    Peter

  • Master-detail dropdown using selectonechoice

I have a master-detail releationship between 2 views that I want to display as one table (master) with the detail as a selectonechoice dropdown list column in the master table. The example in "Not Yet Documented ADF Sample Applications" no 71 "Dropdown Lists in Table with Different Choices per Row" explains a method for doing this but it involves querying all the detail records and then using the foreign key in the master to filter the rows in memory, which is not efficient for a large detail view.
    Is there a better way?
    Hugh Nelson

I think you'll need to use an af:foreach inside your dropdown list components to list the details for each master.

  • Dynamic choice list dependent on current record in edit form (10.1.3.4)

    Using JDeveloper 10.1.3.4.0. BC4J+ADF Faces
I have a page with an edit form that shows one record at a time for a view object ("VO one") and also has buttons to navigate to other records in the view object (first, prev, next, last).
I use a selectOneChoice component to edit one of the attributes on the edit form. The choices for the selectOneChoice are driven by another view object ("VO two").
The query for "VO two" so that it has a bind variable which is populated with one of the attributes of the current record of "VO one". Therefore, as the user navigates through records the choice list on the page shows different choices.
What is the best way set up the selectOneChoice and to update the bind variable for "VO two" and re-execute its query when the form is navigated to different records in 10.1.3.4.0?
(Yeah, I know its easy in 11g but I can't update the project yet...)
Thank you for reading my question.

    Hello -
I found a solution and am documenting it here in case someone else finds this while trying to solve a similar problem.
    1. I added the bind variable to my list choices view object and added a method in the app module that would set the bind variable and execute the query of the view object. The method was then added to the app module's public interface.
    2. In the page definition for the edit form page, I created a method binding for the method in the app module and set as parameter values data from attribute bindings already in the page definition.
    3. I created a backing bean to act as a page phase listener as detailed here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/bcdcpal005.htm#sm0271
    4. In the "onPagePreRender" method I get a hold of the method binding and execute it.
