"Match Move" & "Analyze Motion"?

Hey,
I recently watched a short video podcast by "izzy Video",
where he demonstrated how to easily setup a motion path following
an object then applying a particle emitter to the motion path.
It looked kind of cool so I thought I would try it,and...
now here's where I really feel stupid for even posting this question,
but I can't find "match move" or "analyze motiion" anywhere on my
motiion software. I tried looking through my tutorials and help menus,
and I still am having no luck.
I am presently using Motion 2.1.2.
Is "match move something found in Motion 3,
or what am I doing wrong?
Sorry for such a basic question, and I feel really dumb
for even asking, but I don't know where else to ask.
I've read through the Apple Training book on Motion and
watched some video tutrials on Motion,
but I am still having some trouble getting comfortable with the program.
Thanx for the help,
Todd

  • Match Move Analyze Button does nothing

I am trying to use the Match Move motion behavior to pin a piece of footage to a tv frame that moves around the background. I have scaled the footage to fit in the frame and positioned the trackers in the four corners of the background frame. When I click the analyze button in the HUD for the Match Move, nothing happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually ran into the same issue. Found a video tutorial on the topic.

Don't know if it's any good yet, but you might give it a shot. I'm still downloading the video but it looks promising.

  • Motion Tracking - Match Move

It's yet not possible to send a clip from FCPX timeline directly to Motion 5.
If I want to use "Analyze Motion" and "Match Move" everything must be done manually, what is a pain in the ???.
    No workflow at all.
Does someone has a workaround, if I want e.g. to make a Title "Match Move" to a previously "Analyzed Motion" of a clip directly from FCPX's timeline?

Thanks, I did set the "Render" to "Best", hit Analyze again, saved the file, went back to my FCP project which contained the file/clip, had to render again.....but got the same results, might be a touch improved, can't really tell. Maybe I'll start over and just cover the entire flat screen tv w/ the video to ensure that none of the white image from the tv seeps around the edges??

  • Motion 3 - Motion Tracking and Match Move

Hi, I have no problem learning how to use motion tracking or match move because there's plenty of tutorials online. My question is, if let's say i motion tracked a clip to my original clip and half way through the movie an obstacle comes into the position where my motion tracked clip is. How do i make is so the obstacle appears in front of the motion tracked clip?
For example, take apple's motion 3 sample video.

The place where they put the GPS clip, if while the girl is driving she moves her hand in front of the GPS. How would we make it so that her hand appears in front of the GPS not behind it?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thank you

If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you are asking how to have an object that is part of the background layer appear in front of an object that you are going to composite in an match-move.
The only way to do that is to duplicate the background layer and move it in front of the layer you are bringing in, then create a mask around the portion of layer you want to keep (in the example you provide - the girl's hand).
You would have to go frame-by-frame and animate the mask to follow her hand - very time consuming but I don't see any other way.

  • Motion 3 and animating vector files using match move

I'm having trouble animating a vector file using MatchMove. The problem is the vector file (Ai file exported as PDF and imported into Motion3) becomes rasterized when is moves. I have Fixed resolution unchecked and i changed the Pixel Aspect Ratio to NTSC from Square. Nothing seems to help. I even recreated the vectore file in Motion using the bezier tool and got the same results. What am I doing wrong on this?

Could you post the project with your Motion shape? I don't have a problem using the Match Move behavior with vector graphics.
Is the vector graphic in it's own group? Does that group have a box around the status icon in the name? If it does, then the group is being rasterized for some reason.
You can look through the groups parameters to find the one that has a blue dot next to it. This will be the parameter causing the rasterization.
That's the only thing I can think of right now that could be causing your problem.

  • MOTION 4: Can one key the camera with a Match Move behavior applied?

I have the camera with a match move applied from a group with movement, but while that group is moving, I would like the camera to be able to zoom in on the object, but I can't.
I seem to remember doing this before, but perhaps I just imagined that, lol...
Anyhow, I am able to add the zoom behavior, but it just zooms in indiscriminately, and I need to zoom into a specific part.
    Any ideas?

    Hi gents,
First of all thanks for your input!
I've found the solution for my missing 3D camera icon.
When I'm in (3D) perspective mode I found out that per default Motion doesn't show the camera icon.
I've to zoom out of the 3D scene to actually see this camera icon. As per default the view is inside from a gigantic camera, which is only visible when I zoom out.
Furthermore I understand that I can animate the camera via it's own transform properties. But I was just wondering where the camera move behavior as used in the templates with comes with Motion 3 came from.
Thanks and have fun over there!

  • How do I crop images for a 4 corner match move?

I have a picture frame in my video that I would like to show images on and I want to animate some zooming and panning.  The parts of the images that are out of frame need to be cropped obviously.  I'm not sure how to do this.  There is a crop property, but that is extremely inconvenient to use.  I just want to define a view rectangle such that everything outside of the rectangle does not show up in the picture frame.  This rectangle needs to be compatible with match move so that I can attach it to the picture frame.

Here's the setup I would suggest.  Since you are trying to match a picture frame, which tend to be standardized in size (8x10, 4x6, etc.) you just need to create a 2D group that matchs the appropriate dimensions.
-Create a 2D group, make sure it is nested inside the default group.
-Select the group in the Inspector>Group settings, make it 2D/Fixed Res, and then set the width and hight as needed (400x600 for a 4x6 frame).  This way you don't have to worry about cropping, it's done for you by the group.
-Animate your stills inside the group as needed.
-Apply the analyze motion behavior to the clip you need to track and track.  Make sure you set the trackers in a clockwise patern starting from the top left. This will simplify the setup going forward.
-Now, apply a Match Move behavior to the Fixed Res 2D group, set it to 4 Corner and in the "To" pop up, select the analzye motion behavior. Make sure the track pop-ups go clockwise, top left to bottom right.
-Draw a rectangle mask on the picture frame clip.  Apply the Shape Track behavior to mask and again, reference the Analyze Motion behavior. Again, make sure the tracks to clockwise.
-Put the picture layer underneath the frame layer.  This way you can adjust the corner points if needed and make the "images" larger or smaller to fit if needed.
You will problably want to use the Mimic source setting so you can adjust the corner points for the mask or 2D group if needed.  If you are doing complex or 3D efffects with the pictures in the frame, I would mabye set these up in their own project and then render them out as a QT movie. Same idea applies, just make sure your canvas size is roughly the same ratio (8x10, etc.) as the picture frame you are trying to match to.

  • Basic Match Move Question

    HI
New to Tracking behaviors here so forgive any "dohs" !
I have a Background layer with a great point to Track .... an orange light on an object moving slowly in a straight line.
I apply the Match Move Behavior to the foreground layer, get the playhead to the first frame the light enters, position the tracking anchor on the light, move the Foreground to it's start position and track.
It works great ... except the foreground element doesn't know to enter and leave the frame as the light in the background does. It picks up the track after the light appears, and (of course) stops when the light leaves.
What's the best way to extend the motion into and out of the frame? I tried adding extra ketframes, but it messed up the great track I had before!
    Thanks for the wisdom!
    Lee

    Howdy,
In this situation you do offset tracking, where you switch the tracking to a different feature and Motion calculates the offset between the the previous feature and the new one, keeping things smooth.
Look for another tracking feature that is visible after the light and is at a similar distance from the camera. Go to the last frame of valid tracking from the light. In the Inspector, toggle on the 'Offset Track' checkbox for the Match Move behavior. Then, position the tracker on the new tracking feature and hit the 'Analyze' button. The behavior will track the new feature but offset the results to continue from where the light-based tracking left off.
Keep in mind, though, that any difference in the new feature's distance from the camera can result in a shift in the speed of your resulting animation, as further away objects will appear to move more slowly.
Last, make sure to turn the Offset Track option back off before you add any new trackers, as you don't want to start with them being offset.

  • Match move a face

I am trying to create some funny videos where I am taking faces (heads) of people in my family and attach them to a different body. Can this be done in Motion 5 or FCPX? If it can, do I use keyframes, match moves or what? I understand a 4 point match move but wouldn't this have to be done with 2 points?
    Please explain.....
    Thanks in advance.

[Couldn't answer last night - internet was out for about 5 hours or so... sorry!]
Best method to learn? Find all the (free) tutorials around and follow along -- do them yourself -- in other words: practice.  I practically "live" in Motion. It's taken over a lot of stuff I used to do in Photoshop (design elements - espectially those that repeat.)
I learned from: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB7982C0260F090C1  (appleshakeguru's channel -- be prepared for a very heavy southern accent... but the guy knows his stuff.) All of these tutorials are going to be using Motion 3 or 4. There are some differences in the user interface that you'll have to deal with (the toolbars used to be over the canvas -- they've been moved to under the canvas), but almost all of the information is still valid in Motion 5 as it was then.

    and
https://www.youtube.com/user/MotionTips [subscribe to this channel if you have a youtube account]
(anything you can find by Mark Spencer -- check iTunes podcasts as well. On twitter: https://twitter.com/markspen)
After that: EXPERIMENT! I have dozens (if not hundreds) of projects I've started with just a rectangle shape or a single line, and I'll just play with the replicators and emitters; filters and behaviors just to watch what they do. I've crashed Motion hundreds of times just pushing the envelope (don't worry, it's more stable now...LOL... but not invincible.)  Kick the tires and slam the doors. Be fearless. Test the limits; then see what you can get away with. Get comfortable with the manual (Help > Motion Help -- you don't have to read it front to back, but it's a rather good reference to have on hand.) And as a side note: don't overlook Clones... they are quite useful, especially for looping animations (and learn the difference between the need to duplicate vs. using a clone instead.)  When experimenting, I'll generally just create a "common" Motion Project to develop ideas (I'm not continually saving templates to FCPX.) When I get a fix on the direction I want to take, I'll switch to an FCPX effect template.
I have a few tutorials on my channel at youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF59B526290F162BB&feature=view_all (some of the FCPX tutorials will cross over with Motion 5). I don't do a lot of tutorials because other people do them better... I mostly just make things with Motion and then just do a tutorial on how to get the best use out of them.  All of the templates I have on my youtube channel [fxmah - the main feed is all FCPX templates] are free to use any way you like (with the exception of renaming and redistributing  or selling them as your own) and you are free to download them and take them apart to see how they work... or at least see my approach (which doesn't mean that it's the only way... or even the best way to develop the templates.)

  • Re emmitters and match move with SLOW smoke

I am trying to put some smoke into far distance chimneys, and the background is pan moving.
If I use match move, I don't get the same floating gently upwards effect that I get if its stationery. How can I pan and yet achieve the same effect. Otherwise it looks like an extremely windly day and the smoke is billowing in the same match move as the background, yet I want the smoke to come out of the stack and move with the pan.
Also I cant seem to get an extremely slow speed for the smoke to emitt, even with speed on 1... and loads of other tweeking i.e low birth long liffe...its still a bit too fast. Any tricks and advice please..???

Glad you solved your problem... There are ways to improve Motion's interactive performance.
    1) If you're using Ram Preview, clear it periodically.
    2) Keep your render quality at Draft or Good until the very end.
    3) Text is especially draining of resources in Motion 3. Turn off layers you've finished with to improve performance while you work in other areas.
    4) Definitely turn off Timeline and Layer thumbnails.
    5) Don't have any layer selected when playing - the thumbnail for the Inspector Tab has to be generated when you stop.

  • Match Move

I am creating a video in which a person is walking and holding a picture frame. Within the frame a separate story is being told; the footage is mapped onto the frame using the "four corners" feature in Match Move. At the beginning of the video, the camera pans up from the ground until the entire frame is in the shot, then in the end the camera leaves the picture frame and pans up into the sky. I can match move all the motion in the middle of the video, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deal with the beginning and end (where there aren't four corners to match). Thank you, and help is greatly appreciated.
    Sample footage available upon request.

There may be a way to trick Motion into anticipating the off-screen corners but the only way I know of to do this dependably is to simply manually keyframe the four corners for those brief segments.
Hope you get better suggestions, give us a day or two.

  • FR: Ability to move entire Motion Path (as in After Effects)

If you like this Feature Request, please copy/paste on Adobe's Feature Request page to get your voice heard: www.adobe.com/go/wish
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature: Ability to move entire Motion Path (as in AE)
How would you like the feature to work?
The same way it currently works in After Effects: ability to move an entire motion path by selecting all of the motion path's keyframes before click-moving one of the selected keyframes in the Canvas/Program Monitor.
Why is this feature important to you?
This feature makes it so much more efficient to move a motion-animated asset to a new location without inadvertently changing the motion path.  This tremendous workflow efficiency works wonders in AE and could work equally well in Premiere Pro.

When previewing, make sure that you're using RAM preview to get real-time playback:

  • Using Match Move with a filter?

I have a png of a magnifying glass. I want to create the cliché magnifying glass moving over type effect, bulging accordingly. The Bulge filter gives me the right look. But how do I get the magnifying glass and Bulge filter center to move together? I've tried Match Move, but all the type moves as well as the Bulge center. I've tried animating the Bulge center and copy/pasting its XY coordinates to the magnifying glass Group. Neither works.
    Brain hurt. Help please.

    Howdy,
You want to use the Track parameter behavior which—like other parameter behaviors—can be applied to any animatable parameter, such as the Bulge filter's centerpoint. There's even a handy shortcut: just right-click on the filter's centerpoint control in the Canvas, and you should see a popup menu appear with "Track" in it. Selecting that will apply Track and connect it to the centerpoint for you. You'll still need to pick a tracking target, etc, but it sounds like you already know to do that bit.
