Maverick install failed now my computer is unusable

Just followed the instructions asking me to upgrade my software like a good bunny and bang at final hurdle message comes up to say that the install has failed and my disc is broken
Not NOT impressed
Trying a reinstall of old software now but have sneaky suspsion that all my data is now lost
If this includes losing my photos I will be gutted think I have most backed up but I will not be happy if this has mucked up my computer
Still trying to sort several hours on what is the problem here have found loads of other messages now saying they have probelme
what is going on?
Not Happy at all

To begin with, if you didn't have a backup your data is probably lost. If you wanted to try to retrieve it, you should have when it failed and attemped some recovery option. Depending on how valuable the data is to you it may be able to be retrieved by a professional data recovery service. They are pricey. Stop now and get the disk to them.
If you have some kind of backup, good. If not let's see if we can repair the disk...
The first thing to do now (if your Mac shipped with 107 or later) would be to boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
First run Disk Utility > Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed".
If your Mac shipped with 10.6 or older you'll need the original install disks that shipped with your Mac.
Boot from the disc and choose Disk Utility > Repair Disk.
Let us know what it reports.

I installed OS X Mavericks today. The egg timer keeps going round it wont accept the password, I want to get rid of it and keep Lion. (as I read on here that Mavericks is full of problems) How do I remove from my applications as a half installed item? Without it accepting my password?

Have you not read the Lion Forums and seen how terrible that is? And Mountain Lion? Both almost unusable according to most of the posts. But as Kappy said, just reinstall the backup you made. I prefer to Troubleshoot. Work out why yours is one of the few Mavericks Installs with problems.

Inital PS CC install failed, now can't uninstall and retry. CC just wants to update PS and fails repeatedly.

To resolve it, Run the Cleaner tool to remove Ps CC :http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html . and then try installing Ps again.

I'm having the same problem. I don't really want to do a back up and a complte restore. Does anyone know how to get back onto lion from this stage?
Without a backup you will need to erase the drive completely and reinstall whatever was the original version of OSX on the machine, then perform all updates / upgrades / app installations again.
A backup is much simpler, not to mention quicker.

  • Mavericks install failed, says disk is damaged and can't be repaired. Help.

My install failed early in the setup process, and said that my HD is damaged and can't be repaired.  It reboots in install mode, I go to disk utility, and can't run repair.  I've tried to boot to safe mode, but the progress bar goes about a third of the way and it just powers off, so no way to get in to backup or do anything on this machine.  My time machine backup is old, but mostly I just have music that I can redownload from iTunes or re-rip from cd, so not worried about data loss.  So do I reformat?  How would I get an OS on there again, since there would be no way to boot up or get an OS Download onto that machine?  This is the first time I miss the old cd/dvd disk distribution.   I'm stumped, any help and guidance is appreciated.  It's a MacBook Pro if that matters.

Have you got back to restore from if all else fails?
Try booting from the grey restore disk that came with the Mac: disk in drive and restart holding down the 'c' key. Hopefully it'll boot, albeit slowly. At the first screen select your language and from the menu bar of the next screen choose Utilities>Disk Utility. Select Macintosh HD>Repair Disk. Hopefully DU wil repair the errors. Click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass. Try to restart as normal from the Apple menu.

  • My mac book pro does not boot up correctly anymore after doing some updates. I did have my ipod charging to my mac book. I ran the simple updates and never go to the maverick update and now my computer will not boot correctly. Help!

Please help my computer is not repsonding after doing some simple updates. I follow the instructions and which is simply click for the update to take place. I did what I was instructed to do. I did not do the new update for the Mavericks yet. I just did simple updates. The computer shutted down and restarted but would never get pass the grey screen with the spinning wheel and the booting bar that would not go past a certain point befor shutting off again. The computer is practically brand new. I purchased the computer from best by 2012 and the warrenty just ended the past October. I hardly use the computer maybe 4 times since I have had it because I have another main computer that I uses. However, I don't want to do a hard rest becuase I do have the entire adobe suits software that I paid for and don't want to loose. I have an appointment with apple today to see what they say but I hope that my computer that I hardly every use is not defected after doing a updated pushed by Apple. Any thoughts or suggestions???? Thanks in advance Apple Family :-)

Well, I was at Apple for sometime on that day. I got a Genius that did not want to work. She basically jumped to the money to tell me that my hard drive was no good and that I was out of warranty (October 2013). I began to explain to her that I had only used the computer 5 times and that I don't use this computer as my main computer because I also have a Toshiba that is less expensive that I have had for several years and not one issue out of it. The rep told me that I could by a new hard drive for $161.00 and that I would loose all of my software and photos that I have on this computer. However, I told her that it's bazaar that it happens right after my warranty goes out and had I used it more often when in warranty before October then I would have been covered. Keeping in mind that I would still be very disappointed with the product because I would loose all of my information and it would not make sense to me why the hard drive fails on a very gently used computer. So I asked for a manager and it took her some time to get one. In the mean time I watched how the other Geniuses interacted with the other customers and seen that they were very engaging with convo and very help. I guess I just I got another lemon when I got my rep. When the manager finally came. I went from A-Z with the issues and that I felt that something could or should be done because the rep said that she did tests on my machine and it read to her that my hard drive was bad and there was nothing that could be done. I explained that I was not looking forward to paying for services to have my new computer repaired. The manager offered to give me 25% off the cost but I still didn't feel that it was effective. After he left and the rep wrote the notes in the system, I told her that I didn't think that all options had been exhausted and that there was something else that could be done. I told her to erase the machine and see if the updates could be installed and if the system would continue to do the same thing. The rep was hesitant and said that I would loose everything which we already know that we were at conclusion from the beginning. She assured me that I would happen again and that I would need a new hard drive. I just told her to erase the machine and get me another manager because I was just getting tired of her unhelpfulness and negative perspective. The new manager came and was very pleasant and I explained everything once again from A-Z. I informed him that I had the machine erased and that I need his help with options because I don't feel that the rep or the last manager was resourceful or helpful. He apologies for the actions of the reps and proceed to tell me that they will run all the updates in the store and that if it booted correctly that I should continue to use the machine with out adding the adobe software back on just incase that it crashes again and I'm out of money once again. However, if it does happen again and it is a hard drive issues that he would work with me to resolve the issues. As my computer went through the process of rebooting from out of the box stage another rep approached me because he could tell that I was upset and not happy. I told he what had happen and he said I think I can help you a little more. He said that I just want to run further testing on you computer for different components to make sure that everything would work properly and pin point any issues. I was delighted with that option. Anything would help at this time especially someone who is willing to help. The first test that he ran was to for the hard drive and he said that since it failed the test the first time could be because the software update glitch and did update correctly which would make the test faulty and be negative. As I sit with finger crossed the test came back as a pass test that my hard drive was not the issue and that the update was the cause and that I did not have to buy a new hard drive. I was happy that the computer was ok but I lost information. All of the updates were done in the store and everything works fine now. If I was not persistent about my gut feeling then I would had left out thinking that I had to pay for a new hard drive that I really didn't needed. Now I can invest that money in a external hard drive to start backing up my information. Lesson learned by I'm still on the fence about things but I hope all is well. I really went through a lot. No help or no service was not an option that I was taken.  I hope that it helps.

  • Update to 10.10.3 Failed Now MacPro is Almost Unusable

The update to 10.10.3 failed -- got stuck at 99% so I powered down and after many attempts I got back to the desktop.  I am now still on 10.10.2 but my MacPro has slowed to a crawl.  I was advised that Yosemite needs more memory (I have 2GB) so I ordered 8GB more and it's on its way.  However I need to use my computer but it's almost unusable -- programs open so slow then automatically shut down.  I really don't think the memory will fix this as I've been running Yosemite for a while and just in the last few days has it been brought to it's knees.
Is there anything else that I can check to see why it is so so so slow?
    Thanks

  • Mavericks install failed on my late 2008 MBP. Says I should contact the software provider. Want to do a system restore, using Time Machine, but latest date to use is from last year - even tho did a backup before the download?

I downloaded the free Mavericks upgrade to my late 2008 MBP on Friday.  I made sure to plug in my external hard drive so that Time Machine could back up beforehand.  (I should say I'm not clear about the different kinds of backups that Time Machine does - I just plug it in and let it go.).
So have tried several times over the weekend to install, it takes 46 minutes each time - only to tell me it can't do it.  There was an error message of needing to contact the software provider (or something similar).  After searching the internet (on my husband's computer - since my MBP is rendered useless right now) I decided maybe I should wait on Mavericks and just do a system restore.  However, when I plugged in the Hard Drive and proceed to System Restore, the latest date available is one from September of 2012 (14 months ago)...  I've wondered if the date might be wrong?  But I'm afraid to choose it because I'm not sure what I would lose.  It might take me back to Snow Leopard rather than Lion... (however, the version on Restore was 10.8.1 which is Mtn Lion, right?  Even tho it was last year...)
Some sources online say that I should go into applications and delete the install -- but I can't get to anything on my computer.
I tried to do a reboot in safe mode - but not sure if it worked...
I did look on the installer log error and the latest error is:
    Local Host  Report crash [378]
Can anyone help me?  (Using simpleton, non-techie language?

  • Just got snow leopard install failed now Mac will not boot up?

I got a iPad and snow leopard very excited to use them I try to install leopard and it fails so I turn on the comp to try it again and I get the apple logo then the spinning wheel then it just shuts off and that's all it will do now!
Glad I got the iPad so I could post this!
Anywho I've tried all the command option P+R stuff so any other suggestions would be great!
    Thank you

Try inserting the instalation DVD provided by Apple and start the computer while holding the 'c' key down on the keyboard until you hear the DVD spin and some action in the DVD drive. If your mac doesn't start and show something meaningfull then, take it back to the shop it has a hardware problem, or your installation disc has.

  • Mavericks: Install failed. How to revert back to previous OS X?

    Hi
I was running Lion on MBA. I downloaded Mavericks today and the install has failed. It says I have a disk error.
I have tried 'repair disk' and no joy.
The issue I have is that my MBA keeps trying to install Mavericks.
How do I get back to where I was before?
I assume my MBA will have to go into the Apple store to have the disk looked at. I've checked and it isn't part of the exchange program.
    Many thanks guys.

    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears.
You have the option to repair drive and to re-install OS X.
I would try repair drive and repair permissions first.
If the internal drive fails to work, you can attach an external drive and create a partition the size of your internal drive. Format as GUID.
Install OS X on this partition. While booted from the new partition, you can try recovering your data from the internal drive, Time Machine or clone backup.
Once you have recovered your data, use Disk Utility to Erase the internal drive then clone your new partition back to the internal drive.
    I like SuperDuper for cloning.

  • Tried to install OSX on my macbook pro but install failed, now it won't restart

I Downloaded OSX onto my macbook pro and then I keep getting a message that installation failed. Now the machine is stuck in loop and won't go to my normal desktop screen.

To install Windows you can use Boot Camp Assistant or use a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. You can't install Windows as you described in your post.

  • XP Pro install failed now I can not boot to Mac OS

So I was installing XP pro on my 17"MBP and had it fail... (no big deal)
I did it all through BootCamp (had made the partition ages ago).
Had the disk in ran things as BootCamp told me.
Was going then when choosing the instalation drive it only showed my main drive and wanted to reformat. Now I know that the BootCamp partition was there because I have been staing at the thing for a month. I told it to ESC.
    It asked to restart (OK)
Now my mac will only boot to the dead Windows Partition.
Holding Option only gets me windows as an option, unless I have an istall disk in... then it lets me chose windows or the disk.
I don't need XP and was only doing it to sink with my GPS, darn me for trying to make this work.
    Any clue?
I am having to post this from my iPod touch so searching for other posts with the issue was a challenge.
    Thanks and Sorry

Having same problem as this guy but with my iMac. Formatted the one and only choice of 131gb partition (having made one with boot camp beforehand 32gb) but now am in an endless cycle of cancelling the install but rebooting the windows setup from the CD which I cannot eject

  • No Wireless device when maverick install failed.  how can I get my wireless back?

I walked away as Maverick download started.  When I returned, it was at the login screen.
After logging in, I was still at 10.8.5 and the wireless device was gone.
How should I proceed.  I have wired access still.
    rich

    Ari,
    Thanks for your time.
Later on the 27th, I connected the MacBook to a wired Internet line and finished the Maverick installation.  The wireless was still listed as "no device found".  I tried holding down the D key on cold boot, to get hardware diagnostics, but I never saw a message saying where the results were stored.
Tonight, when I got home, I turned on the MacBook and my wireless device has awaken from its two day slumber and it is working again.  I will try to get some info from the system logs, but right now, the revival has no explanation.
    cheers,

  • SCOM agent install fails Error 80070035 - the network path was not found

I have deployed SCOM 2012 agents to most servers (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012R2) in our estate but some either fail to install or are not monitored. I assume the two problems are related, but for now I am concentrating on the servers that fail completely.
Installation is from the Discovery Wizard and I have about 20 servers that fail of various server versions.
So looking at one specific server that is failing to install the agent - a 2008 standard service pack 2
The firewall in on and file and printer sharing is enabled for domain, remote administration is enabled for domain
I added a specific rule to allow TCP 5723 and 5724
    DCOM is enabled
I can Ping the target server from the SCOM server by both name and FQDN - both return the same IP and our DNS server has only one entry for this server
I can browse to the admin share \\server\C$ from the SCOM Server, using the same account that I specify for the agent install that is a domain admin with rights on this server (and on the other servers the agent
did install to) and the server has plenty of disk space available
I am not sure what else to look at so would welcome any ideas
    Thanks

    Hi Petro,
I have a Agent installation failure cheat sheet, For your error 80070035 it is said to perform a manual installation.
So i would like to understand which version of SCOM is this ? 2007 R2 or 2012 or 2012 r2 ?
Also check if your agents have the WMI service started and enabled ?
Also if yours is a SCOM 2007 R2 do you have a RMS & MS in your management group ? If yes then Pushing the agent installation from MS may cause such issue. So would suggest you push the installation from RMS.
Also check if your Network connectivity meets the minimum requirement as recommended by SCOM. Below is applicable for Both SCOM 2007 R2 & SCOM 2012 & 2012 R2.
    Component A
    Component B
    Minimum Requirement
Root management server or management server
    Agent
    64 Kbps
Root management server or management server
    Agentless
    1024 Kbps
Root management server or management server
    Database
    256 Kbps
Also check if you have any Anti virus / Firewall which is blocking the install / communication. If yes disabe or add the "Monitoringhost.exe to the safe list or what your feature is.
Check if you have another IP assigned to the NIC card and remove it tempraurly andchecl.
Also post the event logs of the Agents which are in not monitored state for analysis.
