Max heap limited when running with a JVMTI agent?

Running an app with a JVMTI agent, I cannot specify a max heap greater than 320Mb, even on a 1Gb machine with hardly anything running. Specifying for example -Xms256m -Xmx512m results in following error:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
No problem at all with a JVMPI agent.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks,
Luc

JVM TI agent libraries are loaded very early in the startup and before the java heap is reserved. JVMPI agents, on the other hand, are loaded much later in the startup. You didn't mention which operating system this is but I assume it's Windows. If so, then you may need need to rebase the agent DLL to allow the java heap be reserved.

  • DAQ Input Signal kept rising and stop at Max Voltage when run with nothing attached

    I just installed PCI 6229 card and a BNC 2110 (Labview 8.6v). When I started the DAQ Input, the signal kept rising and stop at max Voltage  (10V) when run with nothing attached (instead of fluctuating at around 0). Just wondering what's wrong with it and how to solve it. Terminal configuration was "Differential"
    I just created an input DAQ with a scope and while loop to look at it. Please let me know if I do anything wrong
    Thanks

    I just re-read your original post.  Why do you have the terminal setting to differential?  This sounds like a single ended setup to me.  Change the terminal setting to RSE.  With a differential setting. you need to connect one source to AI1 and another source to AI9.  The difference between the two will be reported.  With RSE, only AI1 will matter and the voltage with respect to ground will be reported.  Make sure you have your AO ground tied to your AI ground.

  • I have a production mobile Flex app that uses RemoteObject calls for all data access, and it's working well, except for a new remote call I just added that only fails when running with a release build.  The same call works fine when running on the device

    I have a production mobile Flex app that uses RemoteObject calls for all data access, and it's working well, except for a new remote call I just added that only fails when running with a release build. The same call works fine when running on the device (iPhone) using debug build. When running with a release build, the result handler is never called (nor is the fault handler called). Viewing the BlazeDS logs in debug mode, the call is received and send back with data. I've narrowed it down to what seems to be a data size issue.
    I have targeted one specific data call that returns in the String value a string length of 44kb, which fails in the release build (result or fault handler never called), but the result handler is called as expected in debug build. When I do not populate the String value (in server side Java code) on the object (just set it empty string), the result handler is then called, and the object is returned (release build).
    The custom object being returned in the call is a very a simple object, with getters/setters for simple types boolean, int, String, and one org.23c.dom.Document type. This same object type is used on other other RemoteObject calls (different data) and works fine (release and debug builds). I originally was returning as a Document, but, just to make sure this wasn't the problem, changed the value to be returned to a String, just to rule out XML/Dom issues in serialization.
    I don't understand 1) why the release build vs. debug build behavior is different for a RemoteObject call, 2) why the calls work in debug build when sending over a somewhat large (but, not unreasonable) amount of data in a String object, but not in release build.
    I have't tried to find out exactly where the failure point in size is, but, not sure that's even relevant, since 44kb isn't an unreasonable size to expect.
    By turning on the Debug mode in BlazeDS, I can see the object and it's attributes being serialized and everything looks good there. The calls are received and processed appropriately in BlazeDS for both debug and release build testing.
    Anyone have an idea on other things to try to debug/resolve this?
    Platform testing is BlazeDS 4, Flashbuilder 4.7, Websphere 8 server, iPhone (iOS 7.1.2). Tried using multiple Flex SDK's 4.12 to the latest 4.13, with no change in behavior.
    Thanks!

    After a week's worth of debugging, I found the issue.
    The Java type returned from the call was defined as ArrayList.  Changing it to List resolved the problem.
    I'm not sure why ArrayList isn't a valid return type, I've been looking at the Adobe docs, and still can't see why this isn't valid.  And, why it works in Debug mode and not in Release build is even stranger.  Maybe someone can shed some light on the logic here to me.

    FYI: It seems that the new version of Disk Warrior hangs when run in Snow Leopard

    I have been using DW 4.2 on 10.5.8 and the speed-up was the first thing I noted, too, so it isn't just SL.
    Now if it would only 'come up for air' and respond to input to move window (so I can put it where I can see it if needed) I'd like that.
    There is a 23 page review of Snow Leopard on Ars. On page 22:
    People sometimes ask what, exactly, is wrong with HFS+.
    Aside from its obvious lack of the features just listed, HFS+ is limited in many ways by its dated design, which is based on HFS, *a twenty-five year-old file system.*
    To give just one example, the centrally located Catalog File, which must be updated for each change to the file system's structure, is a frequent and inevitable source of contention. Modern file systems usually spread their metadata around, both for robustness (multiple copies are often kept in separate locations on the disk) and to allow for better concurrency.
    Practically speaking, think about those times when you run Disk Utility on an HFS+ volume and it finds (and hopefully repairs) a bunch of errors. *That's bad, okay?* +*That's something that should not happen*+ with a modern, thoroughly checksummed, always-consistent-on-disk file system unless there are hardware problems (and a ZFS storage pool can actually deal with that as well). And yet it happens all the time with HFS+ disks in Mac OS X when various bits of metadata to get corrupted or become out of date.
    Apple gets by year after year, tacking new features onto HFS+ with duct tape and a prayer, but at a certain point there simply has to be a successor—whether it's ZFS, a home-grown Apple file system, or something else entirely. My fingers are crossed for Mac OS X 10.7.
    If Disk Utility was reliable in mapping out weak sectors (it is not) and report/log errors. But it doesn't and I trust my data to other file systems when possible. We've come to expect and depend on 3rd party utilities and that Apple First Aid doesn't fix every possible error.
    Scanning one drive for errors can take a long time. Maybe it needs to be done, maybe in the background. With 2TB drives it gets worse. Spending hours to scan for errors??? I've set TechTool Pro to concurrently scan anywhere from one to a dozen volumes at once.
    An ounce of prevention, as they say, is worth a pound of cure.

  • ORA-01816 when running with Oracle Instant Client

    good morning
    we are running the same SQL script on 2 computers.
    - native system with DB
    - via Oracle Instant client
    when running via the instant client i get the following error.
    ( select to_char(to_date('1970-01-01') + "DATE" / 86400000, 'YYYY-MM-DD') "CD", logical_name
    ERROR at line 2:
    ORA-01861: literal does not match format string
    thanks for any hint

    It probably works on one and not the other because you have set the NLS_DATE_FORMAT for one system to match the format of the string you are passing in, so Oracle knows how to do the implicit conversion.

  • Working fine when running with eclipse, when exported, it doesnt.

    I have made a little mp3 player with the help of Jlayer 1.0 library. Now, it is running perfectly when I run it from eclipse. But when I export it to a .jar file, strange thing happens.
    The program starts ok, then I click add song button, a popup pops and wants me to choose a file, well I click the choose
    the file button, it opens a JfileChooser, choose file, everything ok so far. Now, I want to click ok so that the song would be added to the program, but nothing happens when I click ok. when running eclipse it would add the song to the Jtree and so on, now it does absolutely nothing, the box wont disappear, no error message, nothing. I wanted to check if it was somekind of bug in the button, but it would seem it does do some basic statements on the beginning, but when it would have to create
    new datastructure, it never comes back. I tested this with printing text when the program completed a statement and got the statement which makes the program idle. And the program doesnt freeze, it just wont do anything, and it wont even finish the method it is supposed when ok is clicked.
    Any suggestions? Im totally clueless.

    Yes, you probably don't have the application correctly set up to run outside of Eclipse. How to do that is different for each IDE. I am aware of the following tutorial for NetBeans, and (probably) Eclipse has something like that. You need to ask at the Eclipse website for that, since these forums are for the Java language, not Eclipse support.

  • EA2/EA1 - Icons when running with console

    Feels incredibly picky, but when running SQL Developer with the console <SQLDevHome>/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper.exe (instead of <SQLDevHome>/sqldeveloper.exe), the Alt-Tab icon for the console has much better resolution than the icon for SQL Developer itself. When starting SQL Developer without the console, you only get the lower resolution icon.

    Sue,
    While there was a change in the Alt-tab icon between EA1 and EA2 - the icon still doesn't match the better resolution icon displayed for the console window. The application icon in EA2 looks like a fuzzier version of the EA1 application icon, rather than the better resolution icon used for the console window.

  • Very slow performance jclient when running with remote server

    We have performance problems when running a JClient application, if the Application Server is on a different machine in the same 100mbit network. In our application we open 6 panels with about 15 TextFieldBindings each, on a tabbed pane. Each panel has it's own viewobject on the server. It takes the panel allmost two minutes to start up. Our own code seems to perform reasonable, but between the last line of code and the actual visibility of the panel there is a long period of low intensity network traffic between the client and the server machine, while both machines have low CPU usage. We tried setting the synchmode of the ApplicationModule to SYNC_LAZY and SYNC_IMMEDIATE, but this does not seem to make any difference.
    It seems as if the server starts throwing a lot of events after our code is executed, which are caught by the BC4J controlbinding listeners. The performance is a lot better if we have the server and the client on the same machine, and the database on a different one.
    This kind of performance is not acceptable for this application. Are we doing something that should not be done with BC4J, or are we missing something?

    This kind of performance is not acceptable for this application. Are we doing something that should not be done with BC4J, or are we missing something? You must be hitting a performance issue regarding download of all property metadata for setting labels etc. on the UI (in case of remote-tier deployment).
    This issue has been resolved for our next release of JDeveloper. Basically a new api has been added that allows 3tier apps to "download" the set of "used" VO definitions, Attribute Definitions etc on the client, so that the UI comes up quick.
    Also a application/ui/binding load code-generation has been modified to allow for "lazy" loading of controls/lazy binding etc, quite like what's done in the JClient Control-bindings sample on otn.
    For 9.0.2, you may shorten the "load" time, by loading only the UI that's first displayed and pre-loading ViewObject definition. However it'll still be slower than what the above mentioned method would do in one roundtrip.

  • Credential problem while running with SQL job agent

    Hi,
    SQL job agent fails to run when I change my computer login (Password) credentials information often.
    How I can run the SQL job agent with Database login credentials.
    Regards
    Venkatesh S

    Hi Venkatesh,
    If I understand correctly, you are using a proxy account has your login credential to run a step of SQL Agent Job. So when you change the login’s password, the credential of the proxy account has an expired password, then the proxy account doesn’t work in
    your job.
    As per my understanding, we can only use SQL Server Agent Service Account or Proxy Account to run the SQL Server Integration Services Package steps in SQL Agent Job. Since the SQL Server Agent Service Account may not have required permissions to access the
    resources in the packages, we recommend use Proxy Account. To create Proxy Account, we should create a credential first. To create a credential, we should specify a Windows user account. So we cannot use a SQL Server authentication login to run the job.
    A good workaround is use a windows user account with a password that never expire or changes rarely or update the password of credential followed by your login.

  • How to get access to the local file system when running with Web Start

    I'm trying to create a JavaFX app that reads and writes image files to the local file system. Unfortunately, when I run it using the JNLP file that NetBeans generates, I get access permission errors when I try to create an Image object from a .png file.
    Is there any way to make this work in Netbeans? I assume I need to sign the jar or something? I tried turning "Enable Web Start" on in the application settings, and "self-sign by generated key", but that made it so the app wouldn't launch at all using the JNLP file.

    Same as usual as with any other web start app : sign the app or modify the policies of the local JRE. Better sign the app with a temp certificate.
    As for the 2nd error (signed app does not launch), I have no idea as I haven't tried using JWS with FX 2.0 yet. Try to activate console and loggin in Java's control panel options (in W7, JWS logs are in c:\users\<userid>\appdata\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\log) and see if anything appear here.
    Anyway JWS errors are notoriously not easy to figure out and the whole technology in itself is temperamental. Find the tool named JaNeLA on the web it will help you analyze syntax error in your JNLP (though it is not aware of the new syntax introduced for FX 2.0 and may produce lots of errors on those) and head to the JWS forum (Java Web Start & JNLP Andrew Thompson who dwells over there is the author of JaNeLA).

    JOB_CLOSE_FAILED = 4

    OTHERS = 8
    When I run this with a restricted user I get a return of 8 from the submit rsbdcsub - has anyone seen this before and can you offer advice on how to solve it?.
    I have also tried using JOB_SUBMIT with the following settings instead
    CALL FUNCTION 'JOB_SUBMIT'
    EXPORTING
    authcknam = l_ernam
    jobcount = l_jobcount
    jobname = l_jobname
    REPORT = l_report

    JOB_SUBMIT_FAILED = 6
    LOCK_FAILED = 7
    PROGRAM_MISSING = 8
    PROG_ABAP_AND_EXTPG_SET = 9
    OTHERS = 10
    and in this case get a return of 3 (INVALID_JOBDATA) - anyone any ideas as to how to resolve this?.

    Hello Caroline,
    I do not know whether this issue is resolved at your end. I faced a similar problem and found that User Type for the generic user(l_Ernam) was the cause.
    We had initially defined User Type for the generic user as a 'Communication' and it was giving return code 8 after SUBMIT.
    We later changed the User Type to 'System' and it worked as intended. Job was created under the name of the user who executed the main program and the steps added using the generic user(l_Ernam).
    Please note that the user who is running the main program will need authorization to add job steps using the generic user.
    With Kind Regards,
    Jatin.

  • Why does this script not work when run with osascript cli?

    I wrote the following to interface with geektool to display a list of todo's on my desktop (i'm sure it's been done elsewhere, but I wanted to try it myself). I had it working fine until I tried ordering the output to place the highest priority items at the top of the list. The following code works properly during development in Script Editor, but when geektool launches the command using osascript ~/Library/Scripts/todos.scpt it only displays the initial "TODOS:" without displaying the rest of the info. Searching the Applescript Release notes, I found that some versions of Applescript 1.8 had issues with null characters when using the osascript cli, however, I'm running 1.10.7 so it shouldn't be an issue (and I'm not sure how to check for null characters in Applescript even if it were). Anybody have any ideas on what's going on here?
    set output to {"TODOS:
    set highpri to {}
    set medium to {}
    set low to {}
    set nada to {}

    if priority of j as string is equal to "no priority" then
    copy summary of j & "
    " to end of nada
    end if
    end if
    end repeat
    end repeat
    end tell
    return (output & highpri & medium & low & nada) as string

    well, i'd been pulling my hair out for quite a while with this and decided it was time to ask for help, but I thought I'd give it one last shot and found a resolution almost immediately. I figured that problem had to be caused by the way applescript was concatenating the lists, so I got rid of the lists completely and it still wouldn't work. This convinced me that it must be newline related since that was the only special character left in the string. I opened up the script in vi, but the default compiled script format is not human readable. The osascript man page indicated that it would accept both compiled and text scripts, so I gave it a try, and osascript handled the raw text file wonderfully.
