Very slow performance jclient when running with remote server

We have performance problems when running a JClient application, if the Application Server is on a different machine in the same 100mbit network. In our application we open 6 panels with about 15 TextFieldBindings each, on a tabbed pane. Each panel has it's own viewobject on the server. It takes the panel allmost two minutes to start up. Our own code seems to perform reasonable, but between the last line of code and the actual visibility of the panel there is a long period of low intensity network traffic between the client and the server machine, while both machines have low CPU usage. We tried setting the synchmode of the ApplicationModule to SYNC_LAZY and SYNC_IMMEDIATE, but this does not seem to make any difference.
It seems as if the server starts throwing a lot of events after our code is executed, which are caught by the BC4J controlbinding listeners. The performance is a lot better if we have the server and the client on the same machine, and the database on a different one.
This kind of performance is not acceptable for this application. Are we doing something that should not be done with BC4J, or are we missing something?

You must be hitting a performance issue regarding download of all property metadata for setting labels etc. on the UI (in case of remote-tier deployment).
This issue has been resolved for our next release of JDeveloper. Basically a new api has been added that allows 3tier apps to "download" the set of "used" VO definitions, Attribute Definitions etc on the client, so that the UI comes up quick.
Also a application/ui/binding load code-generation has been modified to allow for "lazy" loading of controls/lazy binding etc, quite like what's done in the JClient Control-bindings sample on otn.
For 9.0.2, you may shorten the "load" time, by loading only the UI that's first displayed and pre-loading ViewObject definition. However it'll still be slower than what the above mentioned method would do in one roundtrip.

  • Performance slowdown when running through report server

There is a considerable difference between running a particular report through the report server. It is slower than when run directly from ReportBuilder.
Each points to the same data/application server. There is very little formatting or other work required of the client.
The difference is about 10-fold, i.e. a report taking 1 minute to run via ReportBuilder takes about 10 minutes when launched through the report server.
I have no idea how to begin diagnosing this. Our DBA says it is possible for the 'explain plan' to differ because the SQL is contained within the .REP file (and not as a stored procedure in the database). Even so, how/where would one begin looking to discover the reason for the dramatic performance difference?
Performance monitors on both the app/database server and the Oracle engine show that the slow running report consumes about the same amount of resources as the faster report. The slower report simply takes 10 times as long to run.
Perhaps we're not looking at the 'best' performance monitor parameters?
Anything else we can use to trace execution differences?

When we get this we try the following.
The dba's have some tool which can view the sql running under the server and the builder - you can then see if the plan is different.
Ordering - if there is a lot of ordering we get the SQL to pre order using the ORDER BY clause, this means the IAS server has less work to do (depending on your PC we find a PC is always quicker at formatting than the server).
Userlogon - we have a different user logon to that used by the server, this sometimes gives rise to different plans. You can change this in reports using ALTER_SESSION. E.g. we find this can speed up reports:
    srw.do_sql('ALTER SESSION SET optimizer_index_cost_adj=50');
srw.do_sql('ALTER SESSION SET optimizer_index_caching=90'); if put in the before report trigger (nb the values may differ depending on your environment.

  • Very slow wireless internet when running on AC power

Since installing Leopard (and then updated to 10.5.5), I have been having really incredibly slow wireless internet access - however it is only like this when the AC power cable is plugged in. If I pull the power lead out and work on the battery, then the internet starts working again almost immediately. The airport signal isn't lost at any point, so I am a bit confused.
I have reset the PRAM, entered new DNS servers (opendns.org ones) and even set my RWIN lower as described here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5670430 but with no noticeable result.
My macbook pro is 2.33ghz Core 2 duo. I'm using a Belkin n1 router with WEP encryption. The idea that the power supply would affect my wireless internet like this seems really bizarre. I would be grateful if anyone has any idea what could be going on here.

Well l.e.o, since no one else is taking a stab: check your System Preferences > Hardware > Energy Saver settings. See if Settings for Power Adapter, Optimization, is not set for "Better Performance." It may be set for "Better Energy Savings," and the settings for Battery are set to Optimized for Better Performance?

  • VERY SLOW PERFORMANCE TRYING TO RUN AN ADF JSPX THAT CONTAINS AN ADF TABLE

I created a new JDev Application (ADF BC technology), then I created the

Configuration, then I generated the application (standard stuff).
When I try to run a jspx page that has an ADF table querying a DB table with 850 rows, it takes forever to render the page.
    Thanks in advance
    Mohamed

    Mohamed,
Make sure you generate the page with the Table range Size turned on and set to something like 10 rows.
Also, when you have drop down items in your table, make sure the drop down list doesn't contain too many entries. If the drop down list table is large, then change the display type to LOV.

  • InDesign CC 2014 very slow performance when dragging images and changing text

InDesign CC 2014 very slow performance when dragging images and changing text.
Running on 2010 Macpro 2.4GHz. 8GB RAM. Any solutions? I've read through many forums on this and tried several fixes.

Have exact same issue on  my Windows 7 machine. Resetting preferences is a workaround.
So I start InDesign whilst holding down these keys.
Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac)
Whilst inDesign is usable again with this fix- I have to do it every time so it trashes all my preferences so NOT GOOD long term fix. Otherwise InDesign freezes and can only be stopped by forcing a quit.
I have manually deleted the preference files and I have created a brand new admin account - but still no luck - will be onto support tomorrow

  • I have a production mobile Flex app that uses RemoteObject calls for all data access, and it's working well, except for a new remote call I just added that only fails when running with a release build.  The same call works fine when running on the device

I have a production mobile Flex app that uses RemoteObject calls for all data access, and it's working well, except for a new remote call I just added that only fails when running with a release build. The same call works fine when running on the device (iPhone) using debug build. When running with a release build, the result handler is never called (nor is the fault handler called). Viewing the BlazeDS logs in debug mode, the call is received and send back with data. I've narrowed it down to what seems to be a data size issue.
I have targeted one specific data call that returns in the String value a string length of 44kb, which fails in the release build (result or fault handler never called), but the result handler is called as expected in debug build. When I do not populate the String value (in server side Java code) on the object (just set it empty string), the result handler is then called, and the object is returned (release build).
The custom object being returned in the call is a very a simple object, with getters/setters for simple types boolean, int, String, and one org.23c.dom.Document type. This same object type is used on other other RemoteObject calls (different data) and works fine (release and debug builds). I originally was returning as a Document, but, just to make sure this wasn't the problem, changed the value to be returned to a String, just to rule out XML/Dom issues in serialization.
I don't understand 1) why the release build vs. debug build behavior is different for a RemoteObject call, 2) why the calls work in debug build when sending over a somewhat large (but, not unreasonable) amount of data in a String object, but not in release build.
I have't tried to find out exactly where the failure point in size is, but, not sure that's even relevant, since 44kb isn't an unreasonable size to expect.
By turning on the Debug mode in BlazeDS, I can see the object and it's attributes being serialized and everything looks good there. The calls are received and processed appropriately in BlazeDS for both debug and release build testing.
Anyone have an idea on other things to try to debug/resolve this?
Platform testing is BlazeDS 4, Flashbuilder 4.7, Websphere 8 server, iPhone (iOS 7.1.2). Tried using multiple Flex SDK's 4.12 to the latest 4.13, with no change in behavior.
    Thanks!

After a week's worth of debugging, I found the issue.
The Java type returned from the call was defined as ArrayList.  Changing it to List resolved the problem.
I'm not sure why ArrayList isn't a valid return type, I've been looking at the Adobe docs, and still can't see why this isn't valid.  And, why it works in Debug mode and not in Release build is even stranger.  Maybe someone can shed some light on the logic here to me.

  • Formatted Search with DI  leads to a very slow performance - HELP....

    Hello There
I have defined some formatted search in OPCH - everything is working fine.
I have added some logic to this form via the DI.(handlling 1 item press_event), and I get a very very slow performance - the ADDON-EXE jumps TO 230MEGA of memory, and entering values to each row in the tables/item in the form takes about 15 seconds.
    Any suggestions?
    RGDS
    HAGAI

    Hi Hagai,
Normally an addon written using the DI would take up 60-80MBs.
Are you filtering out all events except for the item press event for the form? If you are not filtering events then this can have quite a drastic affect on performance.
What logic have you got behind the press event? If the addon exe is ballooning out to 230MB then it suggests that there is either a problem with a memory leak or that an error is occuring in the code. I would recommend putting try/catch clauses at suitable places in the code and maybe specifically setting objects to null and calling the .NET garbage collector to try and minimise the potential for memory leaks.
Are you sure that it is the combination of the formatted search and the addon that is causing the problem, i.e. if you take away the formatted search but leave the addon do you still get poor performance or does everything speed up?
    Hope this helps,
    Owen

  • Performance hit when running in ARCHIVELOG mode.

What is the performance hit when running in ARCHIVELOG mode?
    Thank you,
    David

I am not one to disagree with Tom Kyte (unless I think he is wrong :) ), and I am not going to disagree here. I do caution the simplistic answer that the hit is negligible. I commend the respondent who qualified that answer with a discussion of I/O.
I have come across more than one situation where archive logging was a performance hit because of the associated I/O. Many want to put archive logs on cheaper storage and do not recognize that not only can this slow a system but that it could become a major issue resulting in a system that hangs until the logs are written. A better solution for these folks is to write to fast storage and have a secondary process that offloads those logs to the slower storage.
Let us also not assume that the archive location is local disk. It might be that an archive location is remote, such as with log shipping or NFS. Network latency can become an issue.
There are many things to consider as there always are. I suppose with any answer, even if simple, one could spin it with some obscure situation that makes the simple answer inappropriate. Having seen some burned by this issue, I chose to elaborate, and I appreciate your indulgence.

  • E50 very slow performance

my E50 is giving very slow performance anyway to tune it up ?? dosn't hangs but its slow ?? any solution ps whats the best antivirus to install in E50 ?

I don't use your same workflow, and I assume you're shooting RAW. However,  after I have built 1:1 previews in LR (which takes a LONG time), when I click on a file to decide if it's sharp or not, it still takes 5-10 seconds for each file to load. And my computer isn't slow, and I have the same issue on my laptop, which is new and fast. I haven't seen a satisfactory answer to this problem, nor much acknowledgement from Adobe. My files are from a Nikon D7100 with 24 megapixels, so the file size is likely a factor.
If you are shooting the type of subjects where you use 1:1 previews primarily to determine sharpness, you could consider Photo Mechanic (unfortunately it costs $150) as the first step in your workflow. It uses the embedded jpg files in the RAW file, so it loads 1:1 jpg previews almost instantly. Sports and nature photographers use this product all the time, mostly to delete losers.

  • Acrobat very Slow performance (50% CPU usage)

My acrobat 9 PRO (9.3.2) has suddently started to use 50% of my CPU usage everytime a *.pdf document is opened.
It is the task Acrobat.exe which is the problem. This results in VERY slow performance and I cannot use the review function without adobe is crashing!
This has not always been a problem!
Does anyone know why this is happening?
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall acrobat, without any luck!
    Thanks
    Peder

You probably have the same problem as I do. I use version 9.3.3 on a fairly powerful machine with Windows vista. In my case, the problem is related to the weblink.api (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/675941?tstart=0). I also uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired - nothing helps.

At this moment, the server makes the user wait more than 10 min for the
    query to execute.
This is what I found out about the problem:
1)When I run the query on an Oracle SQL client (We are using Oracle 8.1.7.0)
    , it takes 5-10 seconds.
    2)If I remove the second term of (CONTENT.Country='nl' ||
CONTENT.Country='*' ) in the custom query,
thus retricting to CONTENT.Country='nl', the performance is OK.
3)There are currently more or less 130 records in the DB that have
    Country='*'
4)When I run the page on our QA server (solaris), which is at the same time
    our Oracle server,
the response time is OK, but if I run it on our development server (W2K),
    response time is ridiculously long.
5)The problem happens also if I add the term (CONTENT.Country='nl' ||
    CONTENT.Country='*' )
to the rule definition, and I remove this part from the custom query.
Am I missing something? Am I using the personalization server correctly?
Is this performance difference between QA and DEV due to differences in the
    OS?
    Thank you,
    Luis Muñiz

    Luis,
I think you are working through Support on this one, so hopefully you are in good
    shape.
For others who are seeing this same performance issue with the reference CM implementation,
there is a patch available via Support for the 3.2 and 3.5 releases that solves
    this problem.
This issue is being tracked internally as CR060645 for WLPS 3.2 and CR055594 for
    WLPS 3.5.

At this moment, the server makes the user wait more than 10 min for the
    query to execute.
This is what I found out about the problem:
1)When I run the query on an Oracle SQL client (We are using Oracle 8.1.7.0)
    , it takes 5-10 seconds.
    2)If I remove the second term of (CONTENT.Country='nl' ||
CONTENT.Country='*' ) in the custom query,
thus retricting to CONTENT.Country='nl', the performance is OK.
3)There are currently more or less 130 records in the DB that have
    Country='*'
4)When I run the page on our QA server (solaris), which is at the same
    time
    our Oracle server,
the response time is OK, but if I run it on our development server (W2K),
    response time is ridiculously long.
5)The problem happens also if I add the term (CONTENT.Country='nl' ||
    CONTENT.Country='*' )
to the rule definition, and I remove this part from the custom query.
Am I missing something? Am I using the personalization server correctly?
Is this performance difference between QA and DEV due to differences
    in the
    OS?
    Thank you,
    Luis Muñiz

    any suggestions?

ok, stopped syncing in System preferences and even (horror) deleted the file which reappeared in seconds.
now waiting to see if stopping the syncing helps - though computer is now working a bit better, the info on Activity Monitor would indicate it is not a real improvement

  • Very slow performance, need assistance

I have a program that has very slow performance (and I mean SLOW).  I was hoping somebody could tell me how to improve the performance.  I know where it hangs up (at LOOP AT it_detail INTO wa_detail.) but I'm not sure what I need to do to make it quicker.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Davis,
The culprit is the select inside the loop.
YOu should use for all entries instead .
I will show for one select, you do similar thing for others:
      SELECT addrnumber name1 street city1 region post_code1 tel_number
          FROM adrc INTO table itab_adrc
    for all entries in it_detail
          WHERE addrnumber = it_detail-adrnr.
    sort itab-adrc by addrnumber.
    LOOP AT it_detail INTO wa_detail.
read table it_adrc with key addrnumber = wa_detail-adrnr.
    if sy-subrc = 0.
move fiedls of it_adrc into wa_detail.
    endif.
    ENDLOOP.

  • Very slow performance in Lightroom 3??

I just upgraded to Lightroom  3.0 and I am very suprised how slow it is!?!  I don't have a very large library and I'm on two reasonably new computers yet the difference from Lightroom 2 (snappy performance) to Lightroom 3 (VERY sluggish) is quite suprising..
I'm using it on a XP and a Vista system with the same results...
    Is anyone else experiencing this???
    Thanks,
    Ken

I've noticed a slow down in performance with Lightroom 3 as well. As far a looking around the forum for older threads, ...found older lightroom 1 and 2 threads.
Your Title "Very Slow Performance in Lightroom 3??" fits what I'm looking for just perfectly.
